Once again, Moms Demand Mayors for Illegal Action waves the bloody shirt. This time their Facebook page is exploiting the tragic death of Claire Davis. And once again MDA reveals itself as an organization dedicated to civilian disarmament. They’re for any law that limits Americans’ access to firearms. Period. But more than that, their WE ARE ALL CLAIRE’S MOTHER tag line diminishes the importance, the uniqueness of Claire Davis’ actual mother. At the risk of stating the obvious, no one other than Claire Davis’ mother is Claire Davis’ mother. None of us will ever feel the pain she does. Intruding on that grief is the height of insensitivity. But what do you expect from a group that would put innocent lives in harm’s way by denying Americans’ their ability to defend them?

  1. “Sanctity”!!! Oh my God.

WHAT? My post went through! First time in four days!!
Somehow, I was logged off, and after logging back in, the post went through.

If any of you are still experiencing posts that won’t go through, log off and then back in, and see if that works. It never occurred to me…

    • Exactly. Not sure which high school these mamas attended, but I don’t recall any “sanctity” in my public high school. Nope. Never. In fact, I’m pretty sure anyone even attempting to bring “sanctity” into or anywhere near the school grounds would have been arrested.

    • Exactly.
There’s a time to raise hell, but there’s also a time to keep your mouth shut, bow your head, and let people have their grief.

    • Since when do high schools have any “sanctity” anyway? I seem to recall plenty of incidents in my high school years involving kids both selling and doing drugs in class, selling water bottles filled with vodka, carrying knives and brass knuckles around, and having sex in closets.

      • When I was in high school (late ’70s), I played the part of Jud in “Oklahoma!”. When I was given a cap pistol to fire in the air in one scene, I asked the director if I could use my father’s Ruger .357 Blackhawk instead…with blanks, of course!

His reaction? “Cool, go for it!”

For 2 weeks, I brought the Ruger to school and used it during rehearsals and performances. I think it fair to speculate that the reaction to that these days would be a bit different.

        How times have changed…

        • Poor Jud is dead
          Poor Jud Fry is dead
His friends are weepin’ wail for miles around
          The daisies in the dell
Will give out a different smell
Because poor Jud is underneath the ground

  2. What is MDA campaigning for this time? Universal background checks? Magazine restrictions? “Assault weapons” bans? Age restrictions? Re-education for little Commie brats?

I’m not seeing a lot of traction for this campaign.

    • Based on the contents of their comment I would guess that the particular message this time around is that they want to see the purchase age for all firearms increased to 21.

Maybe even the new magic “you are an adult” age defined by Obamacare, which is the absurdly-high age of 26.

  3. My word. I cannot begin to describe the angerI feel towards these vultures. Good God. Let the Davis’ grieve in peace. How DARE you hijack Clare’s name. How dare you. You are NOT Clare’s mother, so kindly stop wagging your forked tongue.

    • We can’t say that enough: A good guy with a gun intimidated a bad self-professed socialist anti-gun vain wackjob with a gun.

Watts and her financial backers have no shame. If she really wants to be somebody’s mother so much, rather than be a PR hustler for sale, she should cancel the roadshows, and be there for her own kids and step-kids.

The only credit I can give Watts is that she managed to pick Bloomberg’s pocket.

  4. The murderer in question was an adult (18 years old) who purchased a Fudd gun (pump action shotgun).

What, exactly, do the Mommies Scared Of Guns propose that would have prevented this?

      • The activists will usually only admit that when in a “safe haven” such as Democratic Underground and the like…but that is their goal, yes. They’ll point to Japan and the UK and say, “See? That’s what we should be like. Confiscate them all!”

Consider the film, “The American President”, a left-wing fairy tale of a movie in which an idealized President says this to Congress and the American people:

“You cannot address crime prevention without getting rid of assault weapons and handguns. I consider them a threat to national security, and I will go door to door if I have to, but I’m gonna convince Americans that I’m right, and I’m gonna get the guns. “

Congress then breaks out in applause…on both sides of the aisle.

As I said, a fairy tale.

    • It’s obvious MDA thinks the little monster should have been forced to rely on nothing but his Molotov cocktails. That’s rather sick if you ask me.

No one cares about the MDA message because it is obviously the wrong one: The right message? If the shooter’s parents had taught him that violence is not the answer to disputes with teachers, or if Claire’s parents had taught her to run the other way the minute she is approached by a fascist left wing speech-bully living on the brink of ultimate-solution thoughts, the sadness would not have occurred.

      • I thought Claire confronted the shooter… in which case she is just as much of a hero as the resource officer. Running away is an option that most would/should take, but don’t fault her parents for instilling the sense of bravery she exhibited here.

      • Maybe Shannon is afraid because her 12 year old stepson is not the little scared pu$$y she protrays him as and the kid has issues we will read about in a few yrs?

  5. So Colorado has all the laws that MDA says is “just common sense” (and the death toll would have been higher had it not been for the quick SRO response) and they wave the bloody shirt for more vauge “action” against the mythical murderous gun lobby? And these people actually wonder why us pro-gun advocates think they’re disingenuous.

  6. The self-satisfied delusions Watts continues to crank out never cease to amaze me. She just has all the answers. An 18 year old with no criminal record legally purchases a pump action shotgun in a state that bans private sales and does not allow the sale of “high capacity assault magazine clips”. She can’t really attack the weapon, a pump action 12 gauge is about as vanilla as guns come, nor can she decry the lack of background checks. So what now? This snippet posted above implies that she believes that everyone should be 21 before they can purchase a rifle or shotgun. Just another stupid proposal from an incredibly stupid woman.

  7. They did admit that their campaign for universal background checks was pointless, as well as their argument against handguns and assault weapons. A legally purchased and owned shotgun, the one gun most would allow as it is for hunting. Unless they are really against all gun ownership…do you think?

  8. Shannon is showing poor judgment (again). Did she not meet the quotas that her (puppet)master Bloomy put on her? Is the gravy train about to derail because she didn’t produce? Is this gonna be her last Christmas at the helm of the ship?

Hahahahahaha. Now she has free time to date.

  9. “They’re for any law that limits Americans’ access to firearms. Period.” RF

While you would just limit people’s access to arms based on your opinion.

“[O]pen carrying a modern sporting rifle through a city wearing a bullet-resistant vest is meshugah and asking for it. And I’m not sure it matters what “it” is.” RF

At least MDA is up front about their anti-2A activism.

    • And here we go again… The second comment is not anti-2A activism. It’s anti-YOU activism. You’re butthurt that he doesn’t praise your silly behavior.

      Stop being a whiny bitch.

    • Sometimes a person is better off loading up with one of the true silver bullets, better Zombie-stoppers than anything Hornady produces: Olanzapine, Risperdal, or Quetiapine. It’s possible it could improve both range accuracy and comment writing.

    • These statements are not really reflective of RF views. Yanked out of context and inserted into your own context.

Regardless, we still love you Leonard.

  10. As I said before: MDA is ghouls and jackals, feeding on the defenseless dead. The Muscular Dystrophy Association should sue them.

  11. I can not wait for her tax return to come out. She will be exposed for the money grabbing tramp she is. I actually give her credit for being able to cash in…kind of like WLP almost making $1,000,000 plus paid expenses. They are just opposite faces on the same coin.

    • you might have missed the memo. MDA merged into MAIG. THERE WILL BE NO TAX RETURN. MDA will file a consolidated return with MAIG so we won’t know, at least through the IRS, how much Shannon was getting paid to stroke Bloomy. But, have heart, there are other ways.

  12. And yet, regardless of if you’re pro-gun or anti-gun, if Claire hadn’t been an attractive middle-class white girl, no one would give a rats ass about her.

      • Sometimes I think Toten is a little nuts, but I agree with him on this one. If Claire was black and murdered in Chicago by gang bangers, it is likely that no of us would even know her name.

        • no – that ought to be an angle we employ. . . . essentially, MDA is RACIST and doesn’t care about [____insert name of similar aged Black female in urban area shot/killed at same time as Claire___] because she is Black, etc. etc.

Oh, and Shannon doesn’t like Black men because she won’t return my calls. She is racist, too. 🙂 See how that works

        • Sometimes? But he’s at least right about this. But hey, even William Burke gets it right once in a while.

        • If Claire was black and murdered in Chicago by gang bangers, it is likely that no of us would even know her name.

Oh really? Well, a young, affluent lawyer was just murdered for his car by four lowlife goblins in New Jersey and I’m willing to wager that you don’t know his name.

        • @ Ralph: I’m willing to wager most of MDA’s followers won’t know Claire’s name in 72 hours either. Most people in this country can’t remember what happened on April 15th of this year… and I’m not talking about taxes.

        • Toten is obviously right. While most of us won’t remember Dustin Friedland’s name, all of us saw photos of Dustin and his wife on national cable news and in major newspapers. Even photos of his Range Rover were printed because, well, I suppose we reflexively care more about a Range Rover than some lost AA teenager: Last week two died and seven others were shot in Chicago, several shot in other major cities, but I haven’t seen a picture of any of the victims on cable or in major newspapers. On the other hand, no one reflexively suspects, and rightly I am sure, that Claire was a drug dealing gang member.

      • He’s not projecting anything. Look at cases like Natalie Holloway (in which the US sent agents out of the country to search), etc. It is a fact: you NEVER hear anything about missing/killed black girls or women in the media. However, attractive white women get tons of airplay.

    • Ugh. I’m not saying you’re wrong, because you’re likely not, but ugh. There really is no angle of this that isn’t ugly, is there?

      • You’re right, of course.
It’s just difficult to wrap my head around that kind of attitude, thinking.
If they want to limit a persons liberties based on their psychology or level of mental acuity, then they just put themselves at the top of the list.

  13. Bad guy ends himself when good guy with a piece shows up. Sounds like we could use more strapped good guys. Glad he was where he was when he was, but I wish bad guy bumped into good guy before bad guy broke the hearts of a family other than his own. Peace is my hope, domestic and foreign, but until then keep training for our present reality. Moms should start demanding TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS.

  14. This is MDA’s lame attempt at focussing the blame for the school shooting on the gun lobby. As tragic as the death of this poor young women was, and as a father myself, my heart really goes out to this young woman and her family, it could have been so much worse. Surprise surprise, a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun.

  15. To answer Nine above, this is EXACTLY the “I am Trayvon” thing. Even though we’ve found out TM was a gang banger in training and much as everyone’s tried GZ has yet to commit a crime and once again has his firearms returned after yet another person lied about his activities.

What they leave out is that a good guy with a gun ended his spree at 1. Also not being discussed is how many other faculty were in closer proximity to the shooter than the deputy whom, were they also armed, could have ended the attack at zero?

  16. MDA should be ashamed of themselves, especially if Claire’s actual parents are not proponents of the “cause.”

Could Claire’s parents force MDA to stop using her likeness/name?

  17. Using the same logic, whenever a DGU happens where some person / husband / wife / son / daughter / grandmother / etc. is being preyed upon by a criminal / insane person, are we not ALL that DGU victim?

In which can, I demand no more magazine capacity limitations? Because they’re moronic to begin with? Can I not abolish gun free zones? Because that’s (surprise) where all the victims are?

Every time some kid is home alone and fights off a perp with their parent’s firearm, by that logic, ALL kids should be armed. Because we’re ALL that kid.

Every time an active shooter takes their own life because of a CCW holder or police officer confronting them, we’re ALL heroes for confronting that active shooter.

    Eh? Eh??

  18. My son is an Arapahoe HS student, and no parent should experience what we did. The parents of Claire Davis have it much worse than all of us. I was astounded by MDA’s response. They clearly have no idea of how Coloradans view gun rights and who is responsible for the tragedy. Our experience: http://jamesviser.com/?p=949.

The ONLY thing that stood between the gunman last Friday and my son (and others) was good guy Deputy Sheriff James Englert. I owe him a personal debt of gratitude. One that Claire’s parents acknowledged in their actual statement here:

“It is with unspeakable sadness that we write and say that Claire has passed away from the gunshot wound she received at Arapahoe High School on December 13, 2013. Although we have lost our precious daughter, we will always be grateful for the indelible journey she took us on over the last 17 years—we were truly blessed to be Claire’s parents. The grace, laughter and light she brought to this world will not be extinguished by her death; to the contrary, it will only get stronger.

“Last week was truly a paradox in that we lost our daughter, yet we witnessed the wonderful love that exists in the world through the tremendous outpouring of support we received. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the first responders, the school resource officer, security guard and vice principal at Arapahoe High School, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office, and the physicians, nurses and staff at Littleton Adventist Hospital. Each played a significant role in giving Claire a chance to live, and demonstrated extreme amounts of professionalism, courage and love. Please know that we will never forget the extraordinary work you did on Claire’s behalf.

“We ask that you give us time to grieve the death of our daughter by respecting our wishes for privacy.

    “With much loving-kindness,

    “The Davis Family”

The shooter passed a background check, paid the fee and purchased a pump-action shotgun (not AR). He broke no law until the last two minutes of his life, when he committed murder and then suicide.

We can pass laws covering 100 different scenarios, but the experience at Arapahoe HS proves there will always be a 101st. When the law fails, there must be a good guy with a gun to confront an active shooter in school and public places. The same can be said for Navy Yard and just about every other mass shooting we have witnessed.

We can do this people, if we unite. We can put armed law enforcement in schools and permit qualified conceal carry. Do it now.

    Best regards,

    James Viser

    • Thanks for your thoughts. I know there’s a lot going on, but it’d be really awesome if the parents that think as you do could publicly address MDA’s appropriation of your pain/anguish/fright/etc.

If you could arrange for Claire’s actual mom to throat-punch Shannon Watts for her disgusting behavior that’d be awesome, but I realize that may be asking a lot.

    • I think we all would like to thank Deputy Sheriff James Englert for his actions, and offer our sympathies to Claire’s mom and family.

    • Thank you for commenting. Claire Davis’ death is such a tragic waste of a life and there are no words to express how sorry we feel for her family. I’m glad your son and all those other students made it out safely.

And I’m sickened that MDA couldn’t give the people of your town even the slightest bit of respect and let you all grieve in peace.

    • Mr. Viser,
As a writer and contributor for TTAG I want to extend my families heart felt prayers and thoughts of healing to your family. As a father of nine children I can not even imagine the pain and grief you are going through at this moment.
I think that I can say from all of us here, if there is anything you or your family needs, please do not hesitate to ask. I can not imagine the chaos that is swirling around you, but rest assured we believe in the sanctity of life, and I personally have no words.
The fact you took a moment to respond to the inevitable politicization of your daughters death speaks volumes. This is a hot button issue, which inevitably causes tragedies like this to be used in furthering a cause. I want all of our children to be safe. We recognize the risks in living life, but we do our best to protect and nourish our children as best we can.
G-d bless you and your family. Claire is in his hands now. There is nothing I could say or do to bring her back, but believe me from one father to another, if there was I would.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
      G-d Bless,

  19. What gun law would have stopped this tragedy, one which involved someone legally buying a non-evil Biden endorsed long gun?

    None… except disarmament.

  20. What a post.

    “We are all Claire’s Mother”

No we are not. I am not claire’s mother or father. My children do not belong to the community – nor do I want them to belong to the community. My children belong to me. Claire, belongs to her mother.

“There have been 28 school shootings in America since Newtown”

There have been a lot of shootings since Newtown – and not just at school. There have also been a lot of vehicular accidents, pool drownings, deaths by heart disease, etc. If all guns, swimming pools, vehicles, and candy bars were banned and confiscated these deaths by these means might slightly diminish. However, I believe freedom and personal responsibility are a greater endeavor.

“He [gunman] had to be 21 to purchase a handgun. Shockingly, the gun lobby is working in state legislatures across the country to LOWER the legal age to buy firearms”

First, Ms. Davis was not shot with a handgun, but with a pump action shotgun (used by hunters worldwide). Also, I see no problem with someone over 18 able to buy a handgun, as they can join the military at this age and can operate military equipment and “real” assault weapons.

“Join Us TODAY to take our country back from the gun lobby”

No thanks. Guns did not take the life of Ms. Davis. The shooter [Karl Pierson] did. He could have used a knife, a bomb, a Molotov cocktail (which he also brought to the school), or a pressure cooker with fireworks. The pump action shotgun (used by hunter’s worldwide) was his preference, but not his only option. Again, guns were not the root cause – but the actions of Karl Pierson (legally an adult). A better solution is the investigation of legal big pharma narcotics and anti-depressants (which make people suicidal). Promotion of morals and ethics within the family unit would certainly help as well. It would also certainly help if CNN could stop talking about it nonstop all the time, glorifying him and every school shooter yet to come.

    • “Guns did not take the life of Ms. Davis. The shooter [Karl Pierson] did.”

Yes, Kar Pierson murdered Ms. Davis. And yes, he used a gun to do it. Those are the facts. Which makes the first part of the above statement untrue. I get what you’re trying to say, but too many pro-2A people attempt to hide the fact a gun was used and that makes their arguments disingenuous or seem guilt-ridden. If you really believe guns are tools, then stop trying to pretend guns aren’t lethal or capable of both great harm and the preservation of life. Guns were used in this scenario, but that’s the extent of it. They didn’t drive anyone to commit murder.

If anything, this clearly illustrates that guns are just a tool. In the hands of a murderer, do make the act of murder easier by the very nature that guns are lethal by design.

On the flip side, guns in the hands of a good guy, also utilize their lethal design as a very effective method of stopping bad guys and murderers with guns or other tools they mean to do harm with.

Now, the trick is, to arm all the good guys and none of the bad guys. That’s how you solve crime.

For example, Karl Pierson’s only crime he committed was murder. It doesn’t matter how he purchased a gun or where he did so. He didn’t break any laws in doing so. Had he not been able to commit murder, it’s very likely he would have still had murder on his mind and like most murderers, they would find a way to carry out the deed regardless of the type of tool they decide to employ for the act.

And that’s the issue I have with the MDA — they are the hung up on what tool he uses, rather than just acknowledging this situation for what it is: a tragedy. You can’t predict murder and you can’t acknowledge a murder has happened without there already being at least one dead victim. And that’s just how it is.

All this pre-crime legislation does is hurt the ability for good people to tool up so they too, can be first responders whenever some murdering bastard decides today is the day to go on a spree shooting.

      • “’Guns did not take the life of Ms. Davis. The shooter [Karl Pierson] did.’

Yes, Kar Pierson murdered Ms. Davis. And yes, he used a gun to do it. Those are the facts. Which makes the first part of the above statement untrue. Guns were used in this scenario, but that’s the extent of it. They didn’t drive anyone to commit murder.”

I’m not trying to hide the fact that a gun was used and not trying to appear “guilt-ridden.” I was trying to address that statement made by the MDA insinuating “blame” on the gun rather than the gunman. Many materialistic objects can be used to take a life, none of which make decisions, make actions, or are responsible for that death. I was also not implying guns aren’t lethal. Guns are lethal and many things are more lethal than guns. The fact that Pierson was reading “The anarchist cookbook” I’m glad that he used a gun – because if he used some recipes shown in “the cookbook” then he could have killed hundreds in the school.

“If anything, this clearly illustrates that guns are just a tool. In the hands of a murderer, do make the act of murder easier by the very nature that guns are lethal by design.”

        I agree.

“On the flip side, guns in the hands of a good guy, also utilize their lethal design as a very effective method of stopping bad guys and murderers with guns or other tools they mean to do harm with.”

        I agree.

“Now, the trick is, to arm all the good guys and none of the bad guys. That’s how you solve crime.”

I don’t exactly agree. You cannot keep bad guys from obtaining guns. They will find a way. If good guys have guns and bad guys have guns – that is in itself somewhat of an immediate deterrent. As criminals prefer no risk and no resistance. Harsher penalties for crimes committed by bad guys is also a good deterrent.

“For example, Karl Pierson’s only crime he committed was murder.

All this pre-crime legislation does is hurt the ability for good people to tool up so they too, can be first responders whenever some murdering bastard decides today is the day to go on a spree shooting.”

I very strongly agree with all of this.

      • Karl Pierson’s only crime he committed was murder

        Before he committed murder:
        * he violated 18 USC 922(q)(2), and possibly (3)
        * he violated C.R.S. 18-12-105.5 (multiple counts)
        * he almost certainly violated C.R.S. 9-7-106(1)

  21. Well, if they cannot leverage the families loss to become the next face of grievance for the gun-control movement, they will take it from them.

  22. I would not have expected anything better from MDA and Shannon Watts. She probably marked the page in the Neiman Marcus Catalog for the Vuitton handbag and shoes she plans to buy with the money she figures will pour into her coffers after posting that piece of written excrement.

  23. I had a dream last night that a woman from MDA was wrestling with Piers Morgan over a bloody shirt. The MDA skank kicked ol’ Piers right in the balls and ripped the bloody shirt from his hands and started waving it in the air with glee………what could it all mean?………..I just don’t get it!!!

    • I usually try to keep a civil tongue when discussing women, but after this, that’s going to be harder to do where Shannon Watts is concerned. Latching onto a tragedy like this before the victim is even buried is just incredibly indecent. She really showed her true colors.

  24. These MDA people probably had their press release pre-written and ready for this.

“If an innocent girl dies then we’ll have an invaluable piece of political capital!”

Think about how sick that is?

  25. What MDA fails to mention is that they are also all the mother’s of the criminal that did commited this heinous act.

If “all” of them had done better jobs as mothers none of this would have happened. It’s you MDA who are responsible with your lack of focus on the root causes of violence.

It’s been my experience (via friends and family) that liberals are some of the worst parents as shown by their children’s behavior.

  26. They claim to all know how she feels? They belittle that poor family’s pain trying to cash in on it as if they know. They don’t know. Only that poor family knows. So sad this girl died. Thank God a good guy with a gun showed up and made certain there were not fatalities beyond that…if only he had been there sooner.

  27. My deepest condolences to the Davis family.

When I see this case, and others like it, I always wonder, “where were the parents?” I realize that he is 18, but how do they let their child get to point where he is so disconnected from reality that he will take this sort of violent action? I simply do not believe that there weren’t signs. Pure speculation, but my bet is that we will hear about how the shooter was on some sort of SSRI cocktail to help him “get along” and that the parents had lost control and/or interest in him. This is a common thread of nearly every single one of these mass shootings. Lazy parents, incompetent doctors and big pharma share blame. One of the victims of these shootings needs to sue the $#!+ out of this kids parents, doctors, and the drug manufacturers of whatever this kid was on.

  28. I see no mention from MDA that the shooter was a socialist anti-gun crackpot just like them. Oh, that probably wouldn’t fit their agenda now would it. I see that they don’t even acknowledge that a good guy with a gun stopped more children from being killed by one of their own. Oh, that probably wouldn’t fit their agenda now would it. I bet if they actually had access, MDA would drag out the poor girls corpse on National TV to further their agenda because common sense is not on their side.

  29. I’d rather live in a country where a few innocents occasionally die, than a country where the government has completely disarmed all of us, and every innocent can (and often does) die. I know too much of man’s history of brutality and repression to feel any other way.
