From the Associated Press . . .

State police are investigating whether a security guard at a Family Dollar store in Michigan was fatally shot because he refused to allow a customer to enter without wearing a face mask to protect against transmission of the coronavirus.

Calvin Munerlyn, 43, was fatally shot Friday at the store just north of downtown Flint. Latryna Sims-Munerlyn said she was told her husband was shot during an argument over a mask, MLive.com reported Monday.

Police are looking into that as a possibility, state police Lt. Dave Kaiser told the newspaper. Kaiser declined to discuss the case with The Associated Press Monday, deferring instead to the Genesee County prosecutor’s office, which has scheduled an afternoon news conference.

Sims-Munerlyn said her husband had worked in the security profession about 30 years, but only a little over a year at the Family Dollar. One of their sons also worked at the store but wasn’t there Friday. He was told of the shooting by a co-worker.

“My son called me and he said, ‘Mama, you got to get to the store,’ and my heart just dropped,” Sims-Munerlyn said. “I said, ‘Why son?’ He said, ‘Mama, just go to the store.’”

About 150 people attended a candlelight vigil Sunday night.

Munerlyn’s mother, Bernadett, said she wants justice for her son.

“They didn’t have to take my baby and it wasn’t that serious,” she said. “All you people just have to do is listen to the law, listen to the governor. Just stay home. If you don’t have to come out, then you wouldn’t need a mask unless you’re out getting groceries or necessities. All my baby was doing was his job working and doing his job.”

Last month, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered that people have to wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces such as grocery stores.

As of Monday, Michigan had reported 43,754 confirmed COVID-19 virus cases and 4,049 deaths due to complications from the disease.

  1. Could have been one of the thugs let out of prison by the libs. My condolences to the family of the security guard. Guess it will be determined to be the guns’ fault.

  2. why does a dollar store need security personnel?? Oh right, It’s a place full of the ‘protected class’.

    • Perhaps this location gets robbed a lot. Dollar stores probably have lots of cash and makes for a worthy target in the wrong area.

Journalists tend to be a lazy these days and fail to triangulate their data before pooping out an article. I’d rather wait to hear what really happened before deciding it was based on the lack of a mask.

My heart goes out to Munerlyn‘s family. A Security guard is just doing a job and shouldn’t get blasted for it whether a robbery or over a mask.

      • You use the term “journalist” pretty lightly, journalism is fast becoming a lost art. You can still find good journalism, but you really have to search.

  3. I’m confused that a dollar store is protected by security but people have a problem with me carrying a gun to protect myself…..I think I’m worth more then a buck maybe $2.99

    • At least the guy was a working, married man, raising kids. from what the article says. Even had his other kid working there. It’s usually young hoods hanging around, and harassing customers around those stores that are in certain neighborhoods, that the security is for. And of course the armed robberies. At least it was like that in Milwaukee when I lived on the north side. Everybody congregated at the corner stores. Drunks begging, the kids buying treats, the locals buying cigarettes and a gallon of milk, and the dope head trying to sell you something for quick cash. It was its own micro economy going on. Even had guys coming up to tell a few jokes and ask for change as a hustle to get enough change for the single cans of beer. Sad that people pull a gun over being told no entry without a face mask. But there is likely more to the story, as usual. Might of already had a beef from before.

      • Story is, guard told her she needs a face mask to enter. She goes off on the guard and spits in his face. The guard pushed her away and she came back again, and got in his face. He pushed her away and she fell. She then left. The guard and manager called the police. They didn’t respond cause she had left the store. Her dad and boyfriend came to the store dad distracted the guard as the boyfriend shot the guard in the back. So …

        • Another senseless death caused by the gun lobby. I read a story pretty recently about some absurd murder like this that literally started out as “…he was the very definition of the NRA’s Good Guy With a Gun.”

        • “Another senseless death caused by the gun lobby” -sarcasm for those that can’t tell.

  4. Our Country has become a GIANT S***hole…… bigger than it has ever been before …..
not the “America” I was born and raised in…! Love my old country…Love my family
…. Love my Guns ….. The Good can’t take responsibility for the too many sick minded fucks full of Hate.

    • Stop exporting jobs to other countries and start domestic production. A service economy based on gig jobs only goes so far. There’s a limit to how many baristas that can be employed.

      • well, well. the epiphany includes knowledge of the seemingly infinite number that can be furloughed.

    • You h/not ave a very limited (no) grasp of American history. It is more “diverse” now that is true/not sufficiently diverse for the progs though.

  5. Once LE gets its fangs in the perp they ain’t letting loose. My the Good Lord look after the man’s grieving family.

  6. I doubt this would make the news except for the protests in Lansing. You know the racist , gun brandishing trump supporters Nazi that refuse to social distance and wear masks. Well, this was in an area that you wouldn’t find those kind of people. Yeah, the security guard was ambushed from behind by the girls boyfriend as her dad was distracting the guard. Black on black crime isn’t newsworthy unless it’s pushing an agenda.

    • true enough..if it wasn’t for “the mask” issue you would probably never had heard about it

      • Sadly I believe that is correct.

Who benefits from the “mask” leading the article? Don’t need to think too far ahead to answer that one. Another life lost being used to push an agenda.

    • Volbolsunj…Calling people racists and nazis because they are protesting a tyrannical democRat requires hard evidence; not hearsay or your baseless biased sleazy opinion. If you want racists and nazis look no further than the democRat Party. The party that owns the legacy of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, lynching, the KKK, Eugenics, Gun Control and other race based atrocities.
That’s right…The roots of Gun Control are in racism and genocide. Perhaps you can make yourself useful and find a democRat who can justify their racist and nazi based Gun Control Agenda. And after you’re done with that you can spend some time getting the democRat Party to cough up way past due monetary reparations. Hop to it.

      TRUMP/PENCE 2020.

      • Sorry hun, but that is what half-Whitmer is portraying the patriots in Lansing. I didn’t see any thing but some people carried guns.

        • I made a mistake, knowing you are not what I thought overrides my embarrassment…Consider my post addressed to, “To whom it may concern.”

  7. Sounds like a setup. Gov will ban all carry is next move. Shooter either will not be caught or will be a demonicRat and we’ll never hear about it.

Not much on conspiracy theories but this, a security guard shot for enforcing the Gov’s illegal extension of her order, right after an open carry demonstration at the capitol? Too much of a coincidence for my blood.

    • Shades of Northam!! Another DEM Governor goes Full-On NAZI….. If Witless goes for gun control you can stop “thinking” it’s a conspiracy and start believing it!! And it’s all designed, to blow your mind, but your mind won’t really be blown. Like the blow that’ll gitcha when ya get your piture…. on the cover of the Rolling Stone!
“”This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!”” Adolf Hitler, 1935.

Gun control CAUSES mass murder…. Doubt it? Germany, Russia, Italy, Japan, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, China, Laos, Cambodia… not to mention Africa… the list is lengthy. German lives lost?? Over 20 million. Mao? Estimated at 65 million. Stallin? Over 20 million. Recovery time? Germany… over 25 years WITH HELP. China? Still working on it…. slowed by the CCP.

  8. RIP…what’s with the lame “why do ya have a security guard”?!? Lot’s of crappy area’s have guard’s. Like Aldi’s. Some do-some don’t. Just got back from my Indianapolis Blvd run. Cabela’s is pathetic,South County guns had nothing and Harbor Freight had what I wanted. I was able to avoid WallyWorld(and get cheap gas). LOT’s of maskless Hoosiers…

  9. A while back, an armed with a .38 Special Revolver Security Officer, in Florida, can not remember the location. Saw an armed person approaching the door. Security drew, and shot him through the glass! DRT.
Again not sure, but I think it was a double-tap, centre chest.

  10. This is why communities need churches, synagogues, and mosques.
    Strong families.
    Education.
A sense of morals or ethics (they are not equivalent).
    Hope.
    Personal responsibility.

It is not about guns; it is about people.
Too bad the Dems policies counter all of the above.

  11. Maybe, the dead guard’s mother had more to say than was published here but it bothers me that she didn’t lash out at the self-entitled bitch who started the dispute and at her male relatives who thought requiring her to behave responsibly was an affront that could only be wiped out in blood.

If one of my relatives was murdered like this, my public position would be, “Give the murderer a fair trial and then hang him.” I would also warn his relatives to keep the location of his grave secret if they didn’t want me to mark each anniversary of my relative’s death by pissing on it.

    • That’s as inane as asking someone, after they just shot someone in self-defense, “why do you need a gun!”

Because in the are of this dollar store there are people who will shoot someone dead for any perceived slight

      • And just WTF good is a security guard going to do…???
IF someone has the propensity to commit a violent act, there is NOTHING that will stop them, not LEO’s and certainly NOT a “security guard”…

Next time, before you respond, think about what you’re going to say, instead of just opening your mouth(metaphorically) and letting words just fall out…

    • They have unarmed security at some of the “99 cents Only” stores (that have stuff that costs way more than a dollar now)

  12. See all these people wearing their masks on their chins, didn’t know the Wuhan flu could be transmitted that way.

  13. I wonder if masks will be mandatory for voting in the upcoming elections. If masks are mandated for voting I suspect countless lawyers would be willing to sue arguing that the mask mandate for voting is akin to poll taxes and presents a significant barrier especially since there is mask shortages everywhere.

  14. I wonder if any lawyers will look into suing over the masked mandate claiming that the poor lack the opportunity to acquire a mask and also lack the means to manufacture an improvised mask.

    • If you can’t go out without a mask to acquire the materials to make a mask, what then?

  15. A Dollar General store should never need a security guard, but let’s face the harsh reality that they do need one and at times more than one. Just one more on an endless list of reasons why good people should carry a sidearm always, and know how to use it. Not because it is fair or right that they should have to, but because the nature of the world’s ill mannered humans creates the necessity of doing so.

As for the crime, it is always necessary to look into the details and the motives, it may be a factor in the severity of punishment the judge decides upon. Although at some point, a sentence of death plus life at hard labor without parole, running concurrently covers most of it just fine.

  16. Apparently, the woman who had the initial confrontation with the murdered security officer has been arrested. The last I checked, police were still looking for the two involved in the actual shooting.
All three are facing 1st Degree/Premeditated Murder charges.

    • “Clear case of death by Covid19 enhanced by tyranny.”

Clear case of death by Covid19 with co-morbid condition of tyranny.

      Fixed it for ya!

  17. Nothin at dollar general is essential. Plain and fucking simple. All these people think because they need a job that it’s essential. Bullshit. I agree, fuck the government and their shutdown, but at the same time, people have to be told to do this shit to stop a disease from spreading because people are fucking stupid. Where is the medium? All I can say is it’s time to wake up and realize your job is fucking dead end. It’s a path you chose. Being reliant on modern society is something we should regret. But the didndonuffin and their mentality of listen to the government cuz mommas baby boy working at dollar general got shot? Fuck you. Now you know how important you are. Something no one wants to be told, but everyone should listen to. When it comes down to it, none of us are “essential”. Not one.

I see a lot of people wearing masks. I see a lot of people touching their masks, or wearing them around their neck then putting them back on and so forth. I still see people coughing into their hands, or touching all kinds of shit they shouldn’t be. When it comes down to it, nobody is going to protect yourself except yourself. If you rely on other people to understand how viruses spread then that is your own fault. I wear a mask, and once it’s on, it stays on. Gloves depending on where I go or if I have to touch anything. If you are not going to do these things, keep your distance and sanitize your hands regularly… actually, over regularly. Then maybe the armed protestors can go home and you can go back to fucking work at the dollar general. Lets face it though, it will never be the same now. We have gathered, and we want changes. Nobody is going to force anyone to wear a mask, and if they do, how you handle it is up to you. But just realize how you handle it may be the loss of your job, because you are not important and their bureaucratic greed is.

    • People buy basic essentials there. Toiletries, pasta, whatever. There are places where if you don’t have a car, Dollar General is all you got for groceries unless you want to pay for a cab.

Usually those are the same places where the DG needs security guards. And people wonder why a ‘real’ grocery store doesn’t want to open there.

      • Right. I get that. But in terms of grocery, are things like ketchup essential? I guess the point I was trying to make in my rant was dependency and overpopulation leading to a false sense of security reliant on modern technology. But I guess throughout history the same could be said for any technology. I just wanna live off rain water, my own crops, and be left alone. I hate society and all it’s strings.
