You don’t have to know anything about guns to support (or finance) more limits on the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. All you have to know is that you hate guns and the stupid people who own them.

While defending his permit-to-purchase proposal, Bloomberg drew a confused analogy between requiring a permit to buy a gun and voter registration requirements.

“I know critics will say ‘Americans shouldn’t need a permit to exercise their constitutional rights,’ but voting is a constitutional right, and we require people to register to protect the rights of all citizens, and this is the exact same idea,” he said.

Unlike the right to keep and bear arms, the right to vote per se is not explicitly enumerated in the Constitution or its amendments. The federal charter only places limitations on what kind of voting rights restrictions can exist.

At the same time, connecting gun-right restrictions to voting-right restrictions may raise uncomfortable questions for skeptics of the latter, including those in Bloomberg’s party who rail against proposals like voter ID. In particular, the claim that a gun purchase permit would “allow authorities to screen applicants for dangerous behavior” is similar to the “good character” vouchers that historically allowed officials to deny someone the right to vote based on their subjective judgment of the would-be voter’s character. Such vouchers were outlawed during the Civil Rights Era due to their discriminatory misuse.

  1. Yes, we know he’s a dumbass, everyone gets that. Even quite a few on his side get that. He is not a serious candidate.

    What matters is how he spends his money on the campaign. What matters is who his spending helps and hurts. Watch that, report on that.

    The rest is all noise.

    • Imagine how many desperate, disabled, and poor people he could be helping with the millions he’s blowing on this anti-gun movement.

    • Trump has shown himself to be a consummate performance-artist who is incomparably good at playing to audiences. He will absolutely eat little Bloomie alive. And on national television.

    • Cognitive dissonance is a condition where there is a mismatch or contradiction between reality and perceptions, perceptions are used. Bloomberg doesn’t suffer from this condition. He thoroughly revels in it. Laws and facts will only confuse him.

      Can someone provide a comparison of how old Bloomberg will be at inauguration compared to Ronald Reagan and Hillary Clinton’s failed attempt? Clinton would have older than Reagan at inauguration day.

    • Our electoral system is as crooked as a dogs hind leg. Do not rule Bloomberg out. The Presidency is largely bought not won.

      If Bloomy would get the Dem nomination remember at this point even Alfred E. Neuman could beat Trump with no problem.

    • Exactly what would Bloomberg need to know about guns other than he can’t become the king of the world if his subjects are armed and able to resist. Isn’t that the primary reason all Leftists hate guns in the hands of everyday folk? Not too difficult to figure out. And I don’t consider him a “dumbass” on that point.     I’m all for going back to the old voting system: landed individuals or those with a meager sized estate. You know, those with “skin in the game” with regards to taxation. Also go back to the state governments appointing senators.

  3. Doomberg is not stupid about guns and gun laws, ok? He knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s part of the cabal who are are desperately trying to disarm Americans. We can speculate about their end game, only they know exactly what the goal is, and what positions they’ll hold if they ever succeed (royalty). Listen to the founders!

  4. The man has historically been clueless and arrogant. Back when he was mayor of NYC he was pushing for an NFL stadium in Manhattan. Obviously there would be no stadium parking available. Now I’m not even a football fan but I know enough to understand that the pre-game tailgating is a major part of the whole experience. Mayor Mikey could not understand the pushback; there would be plenty of Grey Poupon up in the luxury boxes, so what’s the problem?

  6. It seems he has forgotten that voting is something you only supposed to once during an election which is why people must be monitored.
    I like the way his ads are calling this pompous billionaire, “Mike” like he’s going to stop by your favorite tavern and have a couple of beers with you after work. As I proffered elsewhere, I’ll bet his wife doesn’t call him Mike. We should call him Mickey and offer caricatures of him with large ears.

  7. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a requirement that a politician (or candidate for office) actually know about, or understand anything; anything at all. The outcome should not be surprising, or remarkable, at all.

    Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

    • Or the Second Amendment, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
      Or the Ninth Amendment, “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
      Or the Tenth Amendment, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
      Or the Fourteenth Amendment, “…nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…”
      And the list goes on.

  11. Sorry guys, you better take it seriously. He is the exact equivalent to Hillary vs. Trump. And one of them won the popularity contest. That said, I honestly believe there will not be a Dem in office for at least another 20 years after all this. Even if they win the popularity vote every election.

    Why? Civil war.
