If you’ve looked at a post or tried to comment in the last few minutes, you’ve noticed that we’re rolling things back to the tried and (kinda) true WordPress comment system. In response to you, our readers, we’ve fired Livefyre. With extreme prejudice. It was a noble but ultimately failed experiment in trying to make the comment system a better experience. So thanks for your patience and indulgence. It’s appreciated more than you know. As is your feedback, no matter how brutal it may be. Keep it coming.

    • I dont trust software which cant even show you a screenshot without making you watch some shitty 2+ minute long flash cartoon first.

      • I think the flip side of that is you paid too much attention to basically a half dozen vocal people. The Livefyre was up for 12-18 hours, and half that was during off-peak hours. I didn’t have any real gripes, just suggestions. A couple people said “I hate it” before they actually spent any time trying it. I guarantee you that at least one of those hates anything different, ever, even if it gave him ice cream after every post.

In extension of my “pick something and stick to it” comment below, as long as you don’t lose the posts that happen in the interim, if you’re going to do something like switch to Livefyre, leave it up for a couple-three days at least, possibly with a “we’re trying this out” note. That way you at least get reliable feedback from a broad spectrum of the regulars, not just the 4-5 of us that are up at odd hours of the night.

Oh, and I’m gonna go on record as saying that I’ve used Disqus quite a bit, while that was my first exposure to Livefyre. Of the two, I already prefer Livefyre.

        • Livefyre was crap. It would give you a error 500 page if you tried registering a user name which was all ready in use.

Or having click thru 3 extra pages, every time I wanted to post a comment as a guest, because RF didnt like the account name I choose (jewface)

  1. If you change it ever again please change to one that imports all the old comments. Some of the comments are really useful on old articles.

  2. Cross-posting from the original Zippy thread, with edits:

I think you should pick something and stick with it. The comments section is a significant portion of this board, and watching them reset and losing whatever was done in the “other” section is frustrating. There was nothing significantly wrong with the Livefyre system, just like there’s nothing significantly wrong with this one.

I actually really liked some of the features of Livefyre, like the popup when a new comment showed up while you were still on the same page, so you didn’t have to refresh. On the other hand, I couldn’t give two shits about the “social integration” with Twitter and Facebook.

Font size is not going to make people stop posting. Lack of an edit button is not going to make people stop posting. Watching their comments disappear as you switch back and forth is eventually going to make people stop posting.

    • Matt,
They aren’t lost, they’re gonna come back. I agree with you 100%, most sites have value because of the community and the comments on the specific posts.

I plan on restoring all the posts that currently look like they got deleted.

  3. Ahhh! Now I understand what happened to posts I made last night that are not here now. I thought it was something I did. Carry on!

  4. I was seriously considering not using this site any more due to your failed experiment. I tried to post a comment and was rudely booted.

  5. LiveFyre was OK. This (wordpress?) is OK, too. Both have their pros and their cons. They’re different in several ways, but both seem to work.

I understand that there is a need to move to something other than wordpress. (It has some kind of problem that limits how much activity it can handle, right?) If Livefyre will address that problem, then I’m for moving to LiveFyre.

Like some of the others have stated above, you didn’t leave LiveFyre online long enough to get a good feeling for whether all your users like it. I didn’t comment (pro or con), because I wanted to use it awhile longer first. With the limited amount of time I had with LiveFyre, I think I would say that I liked it.

  6. Glad I can cmoment again as a guest… Although I tend to read articles and lurk more then anything else….

  7. I did like quite a bit of things with LiveFyre. The format, live updates, email replies to threads. Linking to FaceBook.
the Edit button was one things most folks griped about and yeah I admit it, the edit feature is something while not used often by me is worth it’s weight in gold.
I think you could visit LiveFyre again once the edit feature is finally released, I liked the other features about it.
I am used to Disqus and WordPress to so you use what you have. Then again for me, and others we deal with this stuff all the time, so we go with it.
I am glad that we are now using multiple servers which allow faster load times. My hope would be we are active active, as well as redundant backup. Lord knows what would happen if we couldn’t post on TTAG instead we would actually have to work! Wait did I just say that!!! LMAO
