banning shotguns

The Democrat candidate for governor in Maryland, former NAACP president Ben Jealous, has implied that the state’s extreme gun control laws — already some of the most oppressive in the nation — don’t go far enough. On MSNBC recently, he said the following:

“We will, in the next [Maryland] legislative session, have to have a real conversation about how we finish the job here of our assault weapons ban. But we have to go much further. Journalists were killed with a shotgun.”

Fortunately, no one on the left wants to take away Americans’ guns, right?

The Annapolis Capital Gazzette shooter used a shotgun. Shotguns are extremely popular in the United States. Cartridge shotguns have been actively produced for over 150 years and make up about about 1/3 of the private firearms stock. There are over 100 million shotguns in private hands in this country.

What is Jealous attempting to accomplish with this message? A recent poll found that Maryland voters are evenly split on who they trust on the issue of “gun violence.”

From wbalt.com:

Kromer oversaw the survey of 617 Marylanders, who were asked, “Who do you have more confidence in to handle the issue of gun violence? The Republican governor? Or the Democrats?” The answer was a statistically equal split of 39 percent favoring Gov. Larry Hogan and 40 percent favoring the Democrats.

Maryland Goucher poll

The message that shotguns need to be next on the banned firearms list in Maryland doesn’t strike me as something that will bring Democrat voters to the polls. And it seems just the thing to energize Second Amendment supporters.

Jealous doesn’t seem particularly well-versed in the intricacies of firearm nomenclature and technology. If he attempts to finesse this gaffe, he’s likely to make it worse.

This is a common problem for people who are ignorant about guns, and have the choice to be unarmed. They see no value in firearms, so they see no cost in disarming others. After all, it doesn’t cost them anything.

What Jealous and those like him seem to overlook is that those who own guns and care about their Second Amendment freedoms are not willingly or easily disarmed.

    • Yup. The fudds in Maryland supported the disgusting 2013 Firearm Safety Act. Because who hunts with scary assault machine cannons (I do, my 2nd favorite deer rifle is my 18″ 6.5 Grendel AR-15, just behind my .308 Sako)?

I am intensely curious to see their reaction when Jealous does come for their fudd guns. It’ll probably involve some mental gymnastics about how he won’t be coming for THEIR guns, because they already have them. Or some stupid thing.

The sad, but almost funny thing is Maryland’s new Red Flag law that goes in to effect 10/1 probably could have stopped the guy. At least if the police wanted to report him to a judge and seek an extreme risk protective order (I mean, he only called the paper several times issuing death threats and they didn’t want to do anything about it).

  1. Said one Fudd to another: “Well, as long as they just go after those evil black-stocked shotguns, I guess it’s okay. Just don’t try to ban my over-under!”

  2. Jealous has not even been elected Maryland’s governor yet and already he’s acting with assuredness to take away the Socialist People’s Republic’s shotguns. He’s just gotta say something, right? I used to live in Maryland; the demographics of the state make me confident that, outside of the Washington-Baltimore-Annapolis triangle, its independent-minded citizens might not, for the most part, comply.

    • It’s like that in every blue state – get outside the liberal metro area and it’s suddenly regular America/flyover country.

  3. “This is a common problem for people who are ignorant about guns, and have the choice to be unarmed. They see no value in firearms, so they see no cost in disarming others. After all, it doesn’t cost them anything.” People shouldn’t be so willing to give up someone elses freedoms. ALL freedom was paid for with someone’s blood. NO lost freedoms come back, except by blood. You don’t like your freedom? Fine. You don’t have to use it. You don’t like my freedom? Well, just leave my freedom the fvck alone. My freedom is not yours to waste.

      • Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. The Left’s freedoms are the same as the Right’s…you know, the Constitution? The Left’s actions have consequences, consequences they are not going to like one little bit. Let them dig their hole deeper and deeper before…well, you know where this leads.

  4. And so far this year, 8 people have been killed by lightning strike. How can they ignore this indiscriminate killer. Please join me as I try to get the Maryland government to sponsor and pass a bill banning lightning and providing severe penalties for violating the ban. #momsdemandlightingcontrolitsforthekidsifitsavesjustonelife

  5. Can you hear that sound? That’s the “blue tide” rolling right down the toilet.

    Open Borders
    Lawlessness
    Gun Control

Boy, the DNC can sure pick a winning trifecta.

    • this week I heard out cries to eliminate ICE???

so ‘they’ can feel safer??? was the comments I hear with it

      They who…lawbreakers crossing the border??

So what is next…disband all police depts and wide open borders????

      • The jig is up for the leftists. Now that people started noticing the left just wants an unimpeded stream of Democrat voters coming into the country their only strategy is to double down.

    • I am continually amazed at how the Democratic Party seems intent to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

      • Oh they had a slim chance of victory. Right now, they just want to try to burn down what they can on the way out.

      • Well, they’re going to have to fight hard for their defeat. The Republican party isn’t going to give up its privileged loser status without a struggle.

  6. He needs to be EXTREMELY vocal about this, and he needs to get more across the country to do the same. Once EVERY gun owner realizes it’s stuff they own too, we’ll start making some headway.

  7. First they came for standard capacity magazines, but I didn’t object, because I am a Fudd.
Then they came for black rifles, but I didn’t object because I am a Fudd. After all, we’re willing to make a reasonable compromise.
Then they came for my pump shotgun, and I realized what a fool I had been.

    • They banned pump shotguns in Australia, so beloved by Hillary Clinton. And since all guns are required to be registered in Oz, the po-po merely show up and say, “Turn in your shottie, or it’s prison for you, mate”.

Maybe this will shake up the Fudds somewhat.

  8. If these Demotards actually knew how deadly a shotgun can be, and how much damage a 12 gauge 00 buckshot round can do, they would have outlawed them years ago and let us have our AR-15s.

I mean, if I’m going to get shot, I know which gun I would rather get shot with.

  9. My eldest son lives in Maryland(just bought a big house on the DoD dime). He loves it there. He’s probably jealous of Jealous. For the children. This kind of BS assures I’ll never visit save for something horrible(God forbid). I will NEVER give up my shotgun…

  10. Ben Jealous used to be Ben Iovercompensatewithtyranny, before he changed his name to fit on POS evil (D) balloting and election signage.

He used to be the Prez and CEO of the NAACP, so he may have also changed his name from Rachel Dolezal?

    /sarc and wtf ever

    • That guy does look suspiciously like Rachel Dolezal…who looks suspiciously like that guy. Who doesn’t look any more black than I do.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I mean, the NAACP is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and white is definitely a color that people have, so…

  11. 2/3’rds of gun deaths are suicides. A single shot gun – whether handgun, shotgun or rifle – will serve the purpose quite nicely. (If you need a followup shot then your marksmanship needs improvement).

There is absolutely NO rationale for gun control – in the name of saving lives – that won’t reach every type of gun. There is no rational reason to suppose the gun-mnt will confiscate your gun last.

They don’t care that you have never returned a book to the library late. Theirs is the anaconda strategy. Squeeze a little more and when we exhale, squeeze again.

  12. Well I can say this… I applaud his honesty. There just aren’t enough politicians, anyone really, so willing to say what their true goals are so publicly. It’s actually kinda nice when the enemies just stand up and say who they are.

  13. ….Start of the American Revolutionary War Part 2 : The War of 2019-2020…? Also, possibly known as the End of the Demo- CRAPic party…?

Quote from Mel Gibson’s Movie, The Patriot:

Benjamin Martin: Why Should I Trade One Tyrant Three Thousand Miles Away For Three Thousand Tyrants One Mile Away?
Benjamin Martin: Would you tell me please, Mr. Howard, why should I trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away?

  14. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned. You see, anti-gunners want them all. They will chip away a little at a time until their goal of civilian disarmament is complete. They have an excuse for banning every firearm. Scoped bolt-action rifles are defined by anti-gunners as “sniper rifles” because they are “too accurate”. Magazine-fed weapons are suspect because of high (actually normal) magazine capacity. Handguns are suspect because they are “easily concealable”. The gun grabbers want them all and have made (flimsy and suspect) excuses for banning every type of firearm. They don’t care how long it takes. and will use incrementalism to their advantage.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…
Even the NRA bears some responsibility for capitulation on matters concerning firearms. The NRA failed when it allowed the National Firearms Act of 1934 to stand without offering opposition, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the NICS “instant check” system, the “no new machine gun for civilians” ban in 1986, the so-called “assault weapons ban in 1991, and other infringements on the Second Amendment. Let’s face it. What better way to increase membership than to “allow” infringements to be enacted and then push for a new membership drive. Yes, the NRA has done good, but its spirit of “compromise” will only lead to one thing…confiscation.
If the NRA is truly the premier “gun rights” organization, it must reject ALL compromise…

    • He should change his last name to Dover, since that’s what he’s trying to do to those of us who own/use guns.

  15. It should be obvious to everyone at this point that the Democrats are not going to allow you to be armed when they come to take you to the trains.

    • Thankfully their choice to be unarmed will make it an easy matter should we choose to take them to the trains first.

  16. Can you say “bring out the FUDD vote?” “Ban all shotguns?” hells yes! do it! do it! do it! right now! make it a DNC platform issue! “ban all shotguns for 2019!” ya!

  17. “Jealous doesn’t seem particularly well-versed in the intricacies of firearm nomenclature and technology.”

shouldn’t disquality his policy proposals in the least. We have plenty of legislators in my state who know less than nothing about guns who pontificate on them endlessly. the less they know, the better!

  18. Banning shotguns is a good idea, and rifles, and handguns, and knives, ballbats, crowbars and dirty looks. Let’s get this banning on the move. . No more anything would be great, ban it all Make AMERICA Great Again, something North Korea could be jealous of.

  19. The Democrat candidate for governor in Maryland, former NAACP president Ben Jealous,
You mean this guy is supposed to be black?

  20. How about classes on how to throw rocks at ducks and geese on the Chesapeake? Sling shots anyone? There must be some kind of contest going on between Commifornia and Maryland. Who can be crazier!!!!

  21. Too bad about Maryland. Lived there once. I liked a lot of things about the area, but not the politics. Did not have a firearm at the time but the politics were still a proggie nightmare. Anti homeowner. Anti car owner. Taxes and fees on everything in order to bankroll the proggie agenda. Moved south. Don’t regret it. Planning to move a bit farther south soon as we can sell b/c the proggies have completely poisoned this area (Greensboro). I am thankful for state level preemption. My guns are a lot safer than my wallet.

  22. The battle is coming down to a state level. Maryland California and others are were your gun civil rights are most in danger. I really don’t know if the residents of these states are willing to go to jail or pay a fine from a corrupt local government apparatchik.

For a very, very short period of time, the gun owners in New Jersey were doing the correct thing. Showing up at their law makers homes and protesting. That was “direct action” protesting. But then they stopped.

They should have protested at the restaurants the anti gun civil rights politicians eat at.

  23. Well it’s nice to see that that Maryland has special critters more deserving of protection as he says “Journalists were killed with a shotgun.” Gosh aren’t they special. Sure wouldn’t want to be a non-special critter in Baltimore and elsewhere where no one gives a rat’s patoot about you. Just go die quietly I guess.

  24. An unarmed United States is the worse thing that could happen to our country! Here’s a Simple Fact, the only reason our Enemies DO NOT Invade the U.S. with ground troops is the 2nd Amendment!

Socialism is like Syphilis, Kills the Brain First and then the Body!

  25. They leotards will never comprehend it, it’ll be too overwhelming for them. Before you know it, all firearms will be banned, therefore no hunting permitted, and crime still be on the rise. The next thing you blame will be forks & knives, and look to blame & ban them next. Before you know it, well be eating with our hands

  26. This can’t possibly be true. We’ve been assured repeatedly that nobody wants to take away your “hunting” guns, just the scary black “weapons of war”.

    Have we been lied to?

  27. First, he wants to make everything free. Which I commend him on for using his personal wealth to pay for education and etc. for everyone. Sorry, he will keep his wealth and wants every worker to contribute his/her earnings to the rest of the loafers. Now he wants to ban shotguns. Next it will air guns, knives, clubs and anything else he can think of. In other words Jealous is an advocate of the UN Agenda 21 proposal making him and a few others the elite rulers and the rest of us, regardless of gender or color, peons that do all the work.

  28. I once spent some time in Western Maryland, where people seemed level headed and sensible. Re the latest, from a potential gubernatorial candidate, and his proposal to ban shotguns???, where do they find these idiots is a question that comes to mind.

  29. Anarchy:

Good chance, sad to say, that your conclusion about gun owners being their own worst enemies is more right than wrong. Other than that, regarding the oft heard “the NRA won’t let them do that”, the following comes to mind. Who might the “them” be other than the people’s servants, their elected representatives? As to the “that”, which comes to be destroying the individuals sacred rights, which some choose not to exercise, which is entirely up to people so inclined, it is those unwisely elected into law making positions who do “that”, this again being the fault of the electorate, and nobody else.

  30. Just another case of the east coast trying to tell the rest of America what is best for us. Please go the …away
