To anyone else, none. The gun club director was not so lucky . . .
Wright, a founding director of Tameside Shooting Sports Association Ltd, was charged with failing to comply with a firearms certificate and two counts of possessing ammunition without authority.
He pleaded guilty to all three charges when he appeared before magistrates . . .
He was handed a 16-week suspended jail term, placed on a one-year supervision order and also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
Something tells me his firearms licence (with a second ‘c’) and directorship are toast. But at least Mr. Wright will have some slave labor experience on his c.v. after his sentence is served.

Gun control advocates are clueless. The expansion-on-impact of hollow-point ammunition results in a reduction of over-penetration, thereby making it less dangerous than ball rounds, because it is less likely to over-penetrate and hit an innocent bystander.

There are tradeoffs everywhere but a larger hole in the vitals is generally better than a small hole that goes through more muscles/fat and out the other side.
With respect to the assailant who causes the need and the justification for use of deadly force in the first place: deadly force is deadly force.
I don’t see much difference in danger between hollow-point vs. ball ammo, and the difference in danger among the various handgun calibers. Which causes more of a disparity of “danger”: .22LR vs. .45ACP, or ball ammo vs. hollow point at any given caliber?

From reading the story, apparently if you own a gun the coppers are allowed to perform home searches to ensure you are keeping your guns and ammo locked up. They found the ammo in his bedroom, not locked away in a safe. Looks like one can’t keep the British government out of your bedroom. Madness.

The laws there are enforced such that preventing someone from harming you is pretty much illegal. There was a story posted here about a british (i’m pretty sure) gentleman who was beaten so badly his face was one large bruise in the yellow stage and he basically said he deserved it for being white.

As a Brit who lived in Britain before and after the ridiculous gun laws, I can only feel embarassment for what the UK has become.

Violent crime has leapt over the last decades. Although gun related violence is minimal, violence in general has sky rocketed.
There are documented stories of people being prosecuted in cases of self defense (in one famous case, a man was prosecuted for beating another (the “victim”). The man in question confronted the victim who had leapt onto the man’s property to beat the man’s barking dog. When the man confronted the victim, the victim assaulted him. The man, a former soldier, beat the bejesus out of the victim, which got him prosecuted).
For a long time, Gurkhas who had served in her Majesty’s Army were refused citizenship (to the horror of most Britons, who advocated that these brave men deserved citizenship). (I don’t where this issue stands now).
Prior to the terrible Michael Ryan shooting of the 80’s, gun ownership was quite common. People had rifles, shotguns, pistols, and yet gun violence was very rare. The Michael Ryan case provoked the semi automatic weapons ban (Mr Ryan used an AK47 to kill some 17 people). Later, in Scotland, a man went on a shooting spree in a school with a couple of pistols, killing several children and teachers. Hence the ban on handguns. A couple of decades later, crime has not gone down, neither has violence. And when a criminal really wants to use a firearm, he has no problem getting one. The laws only disarmed law abiding citizens.
What HAS happened is that the country has become a Police State. Perhaps a benevolent Police state, where the Police are normally very well trained, polite and helpful so long as you agree with everything, but a Police State nonetheless.
But as a Brit, I ask you Americans who are lucky and privileged to live where you do, not to confuse government with the people. Britons are still proud and brave and honourable, we simply have crap government. Vote them out I here you say. Unfortunately, there are no options. The political elite of both Tories and Labour both favour gun control and statism. The few politicians who are outspoken and offer alternatives can’t get the time of day. If you consider that nearly 50% of the economy is in the hands of the state (a shocker I know, but true), you will also understand that a significant proportion people have a vested interest in the status quo. And before you say it, it doesn’t make those people any less proud, or brave or honourable as Britons, just, misled.
