A man shot and wounded by a uniformed Secret Service officer, prompting President Donald Trump to be abruptly escorted out of a briefing room during a televised news conference, had been threatening to kill people near the White House, two officials familiar with the matter said Tuesday. But he was apparently unarmed.

The man, Myron Basil Berryman, 51, of Forestville, Maryland, was arrested on a charge of assaulting a law enforcement officer, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. He remained hospitalized with critical injuries on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The officials, who were briefed on the investigation, could not discuss the ongoing probe publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Berryman had approached the uniformed officer just before 6 p.m. Monday at the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from the White House, and told the officer he had a weapon, Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Tom Sullivan said. He then moved aggressively toward the officer and appeared ready to fire before the officer shot him once, Sullivan said.

A police report obtained by the AP says Berryman “stated to Officer that he had gun.”

Sullivan would not answer questions Monday night about whether the man had indeed been armed, but no weapon was recovered at the scene, the officials said.

Before the shooting, Berryman had been shouting that he was going to kill people, according to the officials familiar with the matter.

Sullivan said after the man told the officer he had a weapon, he turned around and “ran aggressively toward the officer, and in a drawing motion, removed an object from his clothing,” Sullivan said. The suspect then “crouched into a shooter’s stance, as if about to fire a weapon” before the officer shot the man once in the torso, he said.

The White House complex was not breached and no one under Secret Service protection was in danger, Sullivan said. Law enforcement officials were still trying to determine a motive and authorities were investigating whether the man had a history of mental illness.

Trump had just begun a coronavirus briefing when a U.S. Secret Service agent escorted him from the briefing room. The president returned minutes later, saying there had been a “shooting” outside the White House that was “under control.”

“There was an actual shooting and somebody’s been taken to the hospital,” Trump said. The president said law enforcement had fired the shots and that he believed the individual who was shot was armed. “It was the suspect who was shot,” he said.

Trump said the agent had escorted him to the Oval Office. The White House was placed on lockdown following the incident.

Both the suspect and the officer were taken to the hospital. Sullivan released no information about the officer and would not answer any questions at a late-night news conference near the scene.

An internal review of the shooting by the Secret Service was underway, and the Metropolitan Police Department was also investigating, a standard protocol.

At the White House, Trump praised Secret Service personnel for their work in keeping him safe. Asked if he was shaken by the incident, Trump asked reporters: “I don’t know. Do I seem rattled?”

      • No JWM, you are miss characterizing the situation.

Trump is not judged a coward because he did not serve.

Trump is judged a coward because he lied about his physical ability to serve, because he bribed a doctor for a false diagnosis to avoid the draft.

But miraculously, he was able to serve on his schools bowling team and win a shiny new trophy. It is so inspiring to see him play through the pain.

And remember when he told Howard stern that avoiding VD in New York City in the 70s was his “personal Vietnam“? Such personal sacrifice and courage is rare in today’s America.

And then he vilifies true American heroes like John Kerry and John McCain. Donald Trump is the lowest form of life, a chicken hawk, ready to shed other peoples blood to satisfy his ego.

He even cheats disabled veterans out of the charity offered to them by society, pocketing the money and using it for personal portraits to hang in his country clubs.

        • What doctor did he bribe at his induction physical? Did he bring a note from a private doctor that was accepted at face value by the military doctor’s? Apparently you’ve never been through the process.

          Did you serve?

        • Calling John “Lerch” Kerry a “hero” is flat-out wrong. Just ask the Swifties.

Even further, any good done by Kerry serving in the Navy was completely erased by his lying before Congress under sworn testimony. The sonofabitch described American forces as no better than Genghis Khan’s hordes.

        • All that about trump and look at what you got…..a senile old man who can’t remember which way is up…. and then some camel toe skank who sells sex for a ring up the ladder….not to mention every other undesirable such as YERSELF!

        • how was john Kerry a hero he got his purple hearts by self-reporting injuries that his CO would not report because all he needed was a bandaid to fix them also he was discharged with a less than honorable discharge for protesting the Vietnam war with Jane Fonda while in full uniform the only reason he things fixed was because of jimmy carter and him forgiving the draft dodgers and allowing people to request a rehearing on discharge that is also the only reason Bill Clinton was able to run so before you call people heroes do your research Kerry is no dam hero nor was John McCain?to me

        • John Kerry is no hero, by any stretch of the imagination. And, McCain is a debatable character. You’re aware that he was present when the USS Forrestal was set ablaze. Some say that he CAUSED that fire. We might say that McCain redeemed himself as a POW later, but he remains a debatable character. If Kerry is your hero, I suggest that you get out more, and read more. He’s a wormy lump of pig poo, IMHO.

        • “You’re aware that he was present when the USS Forrestal was set ablaze. Some say that he CAUSED that fire.”

You know, there is an actual video of the incident, and John McCain had nothing to do with it. If you did the least bit of research, you would know that an electrical surge caused when the external generator was removed from an F4 across the deck from John’s Skyhawk launched a rocket into the Skyhawk lineup.

Do you think it is patriotic to lie about the service of an actual hero?

        • Regarding your assertions about John Kerry’s lack of bravery, I’ll just let his Silverstar citation speak for itself.

Of course, I would be interested in reading any of the other posters on this list’s Silver Star citation as well.

“On 28 February 1969, Patrol Craft Fast 23, 43 and 94, in conjunction with Underwater Demolition Team 13 and Vietnamese Regional and Popular Forces personnel, conducted an operation on the Ca Mau Peninsula as part of Operation SEA LORDS. While transiting the Bay Hap River en route to an insertion point along the Dong Cung River, these craft with thirty Regional/Popular Force personnel embarked in each unit came under heavy enemy small arms fire from the river banks. The Officer in Tactical Command, Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY directed his units to turn to the beach and charge the Viet Cong positions. Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY expertly directed the fire of his craft at the fleeing enemy while simultaneously coordinating the insertion of the embarked troops. While the Regional and Popular Forces conducted an area sweep, Patrol Craft Fast 43 remained on station to provide fire support and Patrol Craft Fast 23 and 94 moved upstream to investigate an area from which gunshots were coming. Arriving at the area, Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY’s craft received a B-40 rocket close aboard. Once again Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY ordered his units to charge the enemy positions and summoned Patrol Craft Fast 43 to the area to provide additional firepower. Patrol Craft Fast 94 then beached in the center of the enemy positions and an enemy soldier sprang up from his position not ten feet from Patrol Craft Fast 94 and fled. Without hesitation Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY leaped ashore, pursued the man behind a hootch and killed him, capturing a B-40 rocket launcher with a round in the chamber. Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY then led an assault party and conducted a sweep of the area while the Patrol Craft Fast continued to provide fire support. After the enemy had been completely routed, all personnel returned to the Patrol Craft Fast to withdraw from the area. While backing off the beach, these units again came under a hail of fire, this time from the opposite river bank. Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY immediately coordinated the firepower of his units and suppressed the enemy fire. Later, after disembarking personnel, and while exiting from the Bay Hap River, the Patrol Craft Fast were again under fire. Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY immediately maneuvered his craft through several strafing runs which completely silenced the enemy. As a result of this operation, ten Viet Cong were killed and one wounded with no friendly casualties. In addition, numerous sampans, structures and bunkers were destroyed as well as confiscation of substantial quantities of combat essential supplies. Lieutenant (junior grade) KERRY’s devotion to duty, courage under fire, outstanding leadership, and exemplary professionalism directly contributed to the success of this operation and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Unites States Naval Service.”

        • Yet you laud all the draft card burning hippies during Vietnam. The rich always get by. Big deal.

    • Why does enuf have to have served in order to voice his opinion that Cadet Bonespurs may be a coward? Clinton was too, but no one brings that up.

That argument is old and tired, it’s the same as telling someone that if they don’t like a movie, they should go make their own. It’s intellectually lazy.

      • What makes you think you can call someone out when you haven’t served? Until you pick up a rifle SHTFU on someone else.

The list is long on both sides of the isle when it comes to Vietnam.

Frankly the draft dogers, draft evaders and deserters, we didn’t want or need you. You would have gotten good people killed.

7 years Army, 196th LIB, 71-72, Da Nang.

        • The fact that it’s a free fucking country and it says nowhere in our founding documents that you have to serve to have an opinion?

I understand allowing people their civil rights is hard, but you people who use four years of their lives as their total personal identity are pathetic. If you don’t like that enuf can run his mouth without having signed away years of his life to Uncle Sugar, maybe you should move to Canada.

        • This I’ve served so that gives me moral authority is BS. I was in the Pentagon on 9-11. I personally know 2 people who died.and that means exactly jack when it to moral authority.

        • Hey, DJ, I was an O-2 FAC, dropped some bombs in support of the 196 near DaNang during ’71-’72. Small world.

        • When someone is running for elected office as the COMMANDER IN CHIEF it becomes relevant to every citizen what, if any, military experience they have and whether they shirked being drafted like almost every politician on the national stage.

        • It’s a relevant criticism, but results are really the only thing that matters in the end. Honestly, if he really had the spurs, he probably would have had them removed. I had some removed from my shoulder. I put it off as long as possible, but it just got worse.

      • X. 2 people are standing on the street watching a house burn down. They can hear the screams of trapped victims inside. Neither does a thing or makes a move to help. Person 1 tells the news crews what a coward person 2 was for not rushing in to help.

enuf is person 1. Clear enuf?

        • Donald Trump was standing on that street corner, he said: “ I would love to help and save that person from burning to death, but I have this terrible bone spur on my heel, I’m not sure which heel but it really smarts. And I’m really busy avoiding venereal disease on the mean streets of Brooklyn.”

        • Let’s hear some of your heroics, miner. Other than the one where you were a major help in getting Trump a second term.

        • If you only knew.

I’ve run into plenty of fires. Car wrecks. Flood rescues. Cave and mine rescues. Searched for the dead and helped bag the bodies. Hiked miles into a blizzard to rescue a pair of idiots. Spent years doing city, rural EMS/Fire/Rescue and wilderness SAR. Trained many newbies. Retired that pursuit due to injuries. Two weeks in hospital, couple of reconstructive surgeries and six months of physical therapy to walk again. Another year to regain strength in the legs.

No, nobody has ever shot at me on purpose. So no military service.

Trump is still a fucking worthless spineless coward for paying a doctor to help him dodge the draft. Then lie about it and pretend a miraculous cure.

Fuck, I still have my damned bone spurs, loads of people do. Never met anyone who could claim a miracle healing on them tho.

Only President Bone Spurs can claim that!

    • I see you ducked out on the Harris article yesterday. I guess you are ok with her saying she would sent the military door to door to sieze ‘assault weapons.”

You keep saying Trump acts like a dictator. Has he closed down Churches? Has he used the FBI and the IC to spy on his political opponents? How about sanctioned burning and looting? Has he done what Harris proposed to do?

Please tell us how Trump had acted like a dictator.

      • I spent 20 years in the military, and I know EXACTLY how I would respond to that order! 2 AM that very night my team and I would be at her door, and I would testify in the morning that her dying words were to rescind that order. Strangely, none of her family survived to testify beside me, you’ll have to take my word for it.

        • That is something a lot of people fail to understand. Being military doesn’t mean that you blindly obey orders. I never had to decide whether to follow such an IMPORTANT order, but I did have to question authority a few times. Blindly following orders sets you up for a nice Nuremburg type trial.

  1. “…but was unarmed.”

An entirely irrelevant detail. Reasonable threat/reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm does not depend on a potential assailing actually being armed.

    • All details are relevant in a shooting, but you’re correct (if this was your intent) that the fact that the perp was actually unarmed makes no difference in the charge applied. A reasonable person would have thought his life was in jeopardy due to the perp’s words and actions.

    • It certainly is relevant. I get that you’re going for the point that being unarmed does not necessarily render the shooting unjustified, but there are other considerations here.

      • It’s relevant after the fact. Someone telling you they’re armed and that they’re going to kill people, then making a motion that looks like they’re about to pull a gun out… Any reasonable person would go into self defense mode and seconds count there.

    • It’s relevant to anyone attempting to deduce the motive. The fact that he was unarmed means that he probably wasn’t some political lunatic attempting to storm the White House, just your everyday lunatic trying to commit suicide by cop.

  2. Looks like some sort of probing of willingness to use force, and/or possible agitation for propaganda exploitation by the commies prior to the 50 days of occupation that is planned to start in September. I believe it could have been done to get national, negative focus on use of force by MPD and/or USS against someone without a weapon, so that when they occupy DC law enforcement will be ostensibly neutralized when there is violence, like Seattle, Portland, NY and other cities. If you don’t think they have some incel, lefty, self-hating nihilist, wind up toy ready and willing to possibly die for the marxist revolution, then you haven’t been paying attention. I would expect more situations to develop over the next couple of weeks. Until the 50 days of occupation start, then it should get real sporty.

To everyone in the NCR, stay frosty brothers!

    • Wonderful!
Finally somebody is able to connect the dots
      Thank you DA

No, of course you don’t sound paranoid and irrational.

    • “Looks like some sort of probing of willingness to use force, and/or possible agitation for propaganda exploitation by the commies prior to the 50 days of occupation that is planned to start in September.”

      Nailed it.

I really hope the folks planning that took careful note of what happens when something like that happens.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Leftists are looking to instigate a 2020 version of Kent State protest. They would *love* to get a picture like this right before the election :

      https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2020/04/30/PCIN/525d2991-1424-4458-b877-88a576e77e75-0503_main_image_-_GettyImages-90256495.jpg?width=1488

      • Geoff, exactly, a kent state type of event could be another huge catalyst for another powerful narrative like what happened after Floyd’s death. The marxists are masters of agiprop, by way of agitation to get a reaction, then creating a narrative and propaganda that the prestitutes will push that as we’ve seen can shutdown law enforcements response. As we’ve seen most of our leaders and officials don’t have the guts to stand up and callout BS.

  3. If you say you have a gun, insist you intend to kill people, and act as if you are drawing a weapon = I will NOT stop after my first shot! I will keep pulling the trigger (even if I have to reload) until your cooling corpse stops twitching!

    • Double tap to center mass. Stop. If threat persists, then single shot to the brainbox. Stop.

Mag dumping into a person until his/her “corpse stops twitching” would not look good for you if a zealous anti-gun D.A. decided to press charges.

    • Georgia bob: the uniformed secret serviceman acted properly, consider the location. Multiple shots after the suspect is down not only looks bad it’s unsafe considering the number of people that gravitate to the area around the white house, a round might strike a bystander.

  4. Was this an unarmed person shot by law enforcement? Anyone know the skin color of the perp? That could help with a particular narrative being pushed right now. Hold on to your butts…

  5. Why in the world would United States Secret Service feel any inclination whatsoever to whisk the President into another room of the White House simply because D.C. police shot some guy a few blocks away from the White House?

That doesn’t make any sense to me.

    • I think it’s probably standard procedure to notify the President of any shootings within the vicinity. For all anyone knows at the time of an incident, a single person with a gun in one area might be a decoy to divert assets away from a second, possibly higher valued, area/target. When the BLM protests/riots were happening several weeks ago and marchers descended upon our local Sheriff substation, most of our Deputies (I estimated well more than half of them) suited up in armor and stood in front of the station to protect it. Perhaps 25 LEOs in full gear to fend off maybe 20 protesters. But as my wife and I drove by on our way home that day, I pointed to the and told her “any criminal worth his salt knows that right now is the time to do whatever you want, because the Department’s ability to respond is at its lowest right now.”

      Diversion tactics 101

    • I’m sure it’s a ‘standard procedure’ that is in place so no one has to engage their brain and actually make a decision.

If anyone thinks a stray bullet from blocks away is going to make it through the white house structure then you have some more thinking to do.

  6. Looks like a deranged socialist protestor made the mistake of assuming the WH/POTUS Secret Service Officers would cower like the DCPD officers were made to do.

    Evidently he was wrong….LOL

Someone pin a medal on that SS officer!

  7. Clip (not magazine) I saw yesterday showed a chubby white guy in polo and khakis who dropped what looked like a significant size stainless pistol when he was shot in the torso. They kicked the “gun” away and one officer stood on it while they finished securing the guy and then picked it up. Diminished mental capacity or maybe he was just crazy.

      • No surprise that you would think “They all look the same to me”, you racist fuckwit… 🙂

        • This unhinged buffoon think the smiley faces at the end of his statements make him less of a tool.

        • Keep on typing. widdle troll.

Are you angry because your mom put sand in your jar of Vaseline again? 😉

    • That video made the rounds, apparently, in error.

Said video of chubster white dude is several years old.

The internet has, in some ways, made people retarded. Whichbis exactly how The Duffle Blog managed to accidentally troll the everliving fuck out of supposedly “serious” news outlets. Other satire/humor sites have managed this as well; with satirical stories picked up by the MSM as being real because journos don’t bother to background the source so long as the story fits what the journo would like to believe.

      • Thanks! Yeah, I caught it on a “reliable” news site. Serves as a reminder that reliable is relative and to verify the source since even Fox can get the wool pulled over their eyes, though they do seem to be much more careful than most.

    • Geoff, though it is tempting to respond, it is never worthwhile to respond to the trolls. It’s like feeding a stray cat and much less rewarding because at least the cat will do some good around the house. The trolls will just be ignorant and surly while hanging around and stinking up the place. They serve no useful purpose since they aren’t even intelligent enough to manage a significant insult.

        • “so how did they find their way in here…”

There’s always someone who wants to throw a wrench in the gearbox, just because they can .

          (You have a point, Rusty…)

  8. Anybody know if the Atlanta police got the rifle Julian Conley was carrying to see if it was the one that killed Secoriea Turner? I search from time to time and find almost no mention of him anymore. Maybe I missed something?

    • That case disappeared into the wind. It’s almost as if no one cares about the life of a black girl because she was killed by the same ‘protestors’ that up and coming Mayor Bottom let take over part of the city.

  9. Tons of leftoid trolls here lately, and also more new people making nasty posts. Really is a shame. At least serge is gone.

    • The trolls are angry. They realize, once again, that the white guys heading the dnc sold them out and derailed bernie. And they realize their leftist revolt has lost its way and is about to be over with Trumps second victory.

      Anger and desperation.

      • I agree with the first and second parts but think you’re in the same sort of Bubble Hillary was in if you really believe that Trump is going to coast to victory this year.

        • Coast? No. But if he keeps it together he has north of a 90% chance of re-election.

A number of critical metrics were never in Biden’s favor and most of the rest are sliding back to Trump with a quickness.

The trick to riding a pendulum is to get off on the forward swing. The chances the DNC manages that feat started small and are shrinking.

        • He did not coast to victory the first time. But I’m willing to bet he does better this time around.

biden/harris? Really? Anybody believes these two are real candidates are in the bubble. This is the dnc’s way of throwing in the towel and appearing to put up a fight.

        • “Trump needs to carry the Mid West rust belt which is never easy.”

True but the Democrats are not helping themselves here. Last I looked Minnesota is now within the MoE. Which, IIRC, would mean that instead last month Biden is something like -8.

          That’s gotta smart.

  10. I’m not seeing what the big deal is here. This is their job. Handling threats around the president is what they are there for.

  11. This man clearly had some mental problems. Maybe trying to kill himself? I hope he gets the help that he needs, and that the cop doesn’t feel bad about the shoot – how could he know he didn’t have a gun. Maybe they can get together someday, and play minigolf or something. My grandson really likes to do that.

  12. During Trump’s briefing, off in the distance the sound of gunmfire, lots of it.Trump escorted out of the room. News said man shot by secret service, Twitter post shows man with gunm shot by police, not secret service. Now news is saying man was unarmed. So which propaganda story am I to believe Crayz Miranda??

  13. And the CRAZY rolls on….

An Air Force helicopter was hit by gunfire Monday while flying over Virginia, damaging it and forcing it to make an emergency landing at a regional airport, The UH-1N Huey helicopter — assigned to the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Joint Base Andrews — was flying about 1,000 feet off the ground about 10 miles northwest of Manassas Regional Airport when the incident occurred, the outlet said, citing an Air Force statement. A crew member also was injured,

  14. it’s funny that they are saying the man was unarmed and the secret service shot one-time yet I was watching the news while Trump was talking and one of the men in the who stepped out and com back and was asked about it and he said there were two shots that were fired and the news reported that they had his gun and the news had pictures laying there what gives
