Not all pistols or plates in the two lines are affected by the Kimber recalls, so TTAG readers should consult the affected ship dates and list of serial numbers (below).

Here’s the announcement about the Kimber recalls from the company website:

Aegis (Factory Installed Optics & Optics Ready) Handguns, KHX (Factory Installed Optics & Optics Ready) Handguns, and Optics Installation Plate Safety Recall Notice

List of Serial Numbers of Recalled Products

Kimber Mfg. Inc. (“Kimber”) has discovered a quality issue involving: (a) factory installed optics versions of Aegis handguns and KHX handguns shipped from January 2018 through May 15, 2019; (b) Optics Ready versions of Aegis handguns and KHX handguns shipped from January 2018 through May 15, 2019; and (c) the separately sold optics installation plate compatible with Aegis and KHX Optics Ready handguns (part numbers 4000750, 4000753, and 400754) shipped from product launch through May 15, 2019. This recall affects all such products shipped from product launch through May 15, 2019.

This quality issue could allow the optics assembly to become separated from the handgun when it is fired, presenting a risk of serious personal injury to the user.

This Recall Notice applies only to the Serial Numbers of those products listed in the List of Serial Numbers of Recalled Products linked to this document. If your handgun is among those in this List of Serial Numbers of Recalled Products, or if your separately purchased optics installation plate (part numbers 4000750, 4000753, and 400754) was either shipped to you from Kimber or purchased by you from a retail seller between January 2018 and May 15, 2019, please contact us as described below immediately, and do not load, use, sell, or otherwise make available your handgun, as the condition may lead to serious personal injury. Kimber is voluntarily recalling the affected products to help ensure the personal safety of the parties that purchased and/or used them.

If your handgun has a serial number listed in the List of Serial Numbers of Recalled Products linked to this document, or if you purchased from Kimber an aftermarket optics assembly plate from January 2018 May 15, 2019, please contact us immediately to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (“RMA”) and arrange to have your handgun returned to Kimber for examination and remedial measures as may be necessary, free of charge, using the following steps:

Step 1 – Please either: (a) contact us immediately at 888-243-4522 (Monday-Friday 9AM – 6PM EST) and indicate you are calling about the “Aegis & KHX Recall;” or (b) email us at [email protected]. Either option will enable you to arrange an RMA to return your product(s) to Kimber for examination and remedial work, free of charge. We will pay for the costs of shipping the product(s) to Kimber and returning it to you.

Step 2 – After confirming that your product(s) is subject to this recall, we will send you a prepaid shipping label with instructions so that you can return your product to us, free of charge.

Step 3 – Kimber will examine your product(s), remediate it, and return it to you (free of charge) after being remediated. Kimber will make every effort to return your product(s) to you in as short a period as possible.

If your product(s) is affected by this recall, and you have already sent it to Kimber, we will examine your product(s), remediate it, and return it to you (free of charge) after being remediated for the issue identified by this recall notice, in as short a period as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, and we thank you for your patience, cooperation, and continued support.

Do you own either of these two pistols? If so, have you experienced any problems like this? Or, are you participating in the Kimber recalls? If so, please comment below and let other TTAGers know about your experience.

  1. Sigh.

Annnnnd people re-discover why Colt went to a dovetail for the front sight on a 1911 – decades after it became the norm.

  2. The rear plate and Vortex sight launched into my eye on Sat from my Kimber 45 Aegis OI model while shooting at the range. It bounced off my glasses left side glass and ended up 10 ft down range! I did not know about the recall until Sat night when I googled this problem.
Without my prescription Oakley’s, I think I would have lost the eye.
