cheaperthandirt.com reports that Kel-Tec has responded to criticisms leveled at their new KSG bullpup 12-gauge shotgun. Make the jump for the ch-ch-ch-changes to the Shot Show star. Notable by its absence: any alterations to the position and operation of the switch the shooter uses to switch from one tube to the other. No word on the $800 question: how well-built will this bad boy be? Kel-Tec still has some ground to cover in its journey to make itself the prime purveyor of go-to guns for personal self-defense. The fact that it’s listening to its critics speaks volumes about its chances . . .

1. Trigger reset. This will be adjusted in the production model so that you can hold the trigger down, pump back and forward, release, and then re-pull the trigger to fire the next round. No worrying about the trigger going dead, and no Pump-firing if you hold the trigger down.

2. Pump lock switch. A new latch button is in the works that will allow the trigger finger to activate the pump lock without reaching in front of the trigger guard, and potentially getting pinched by the pump. Only the KSG in the law enforcement booth had a similar latch button, made out of welded steel, but the production model will be a polymer button pinned to the steel.

3. a removable rail mounted hand-stop will be available (and probably included) to help alleviate fears of sliding your hand too far forward in front of the barrel.

4. indicator holes in the top of the magazine tubes so you can visually see when you have 0, 1, or 2 rounds left in a tube.

  1. I get that the gun looks cool and the capacity is great, but is it really worth the added expense to get this instead of a Mossberg 930SPX if you actually want it for home defense/tactical usage? I think not.

    • What I keep thinking about when I look at this gun is how close the muzzle is to your face. Without hearing protection (in a life or death conflict) the muzzle blast will render you instantly deaf and heaven help you if you light it off indoors. I know, any shotgun is hard on your ears, but this design will be doubly so.

It’s definitely cool looking, but for that price I’ll grab a Mossberg and spend the difference on shells, or another gun!

  2. Just playing devil’s advocate Jeff, but, that depends. How long does it take you to reload the Mossberg with another 7 rounds?

    • I don’t know about Jeff but it takes me about 20-25 seconds to load without any fumbles and that’s rare. But 8 rounds is a lot in my opinion for self defense.

      • And on top of that, unless Kel Tec fixes that selector switch, I’m not at all convinced that you can flip their gun from tube to tube all that much faster than someone could load another three cartridges, particularly under stress.

    • Agreed!

Although from a LEO stand point, I can see some of the comments made by other posters. From a “home defense” stand point, I think it’s a bit much. From the “inner-gun child”, “this thing looks bad ass, and if they fix the above mentioned descrepencies… SOLD”!

      • I am sold after handeling one at the gun shop. I think another 2 1/2 inches of barrel top ported for added control would be great though.

  3. Why would one NOT want the gun to slamfire?

I don’t get it. The only reason I can see is product liability and the fear of morons negligently discharging the weapon.

I hate pandering to the lowest common denominator.

  4. I think they need 2 creat a better option for the switch. Posibly on the pump its self. And a longer stock 2 keep the muzzle a little farther from the operator! I have shot som extremly short shotguns on inclosed areas and its not plesent after 3 rounds! But I think they have a great idea going

  5. I can’t wait to read some real life reviews on this. I’ve been wanting to by a shotgun for awhile, and I hope this is the one.
