The Cut-and-Paste Problem with Initiative 1639

Outdoor Writer and native Washingtonian Dave Workman takes a closer look at the cluster that is i1639…

When the authors of Initiative 1639—the 30-page, multi-faceted gun control measure now facing Washington voters on the November ballot—defined a “semiautomatic assault rifle,” they created a split among firearms owners, leaving some to believe the authors to be “gun ignorant” or just incompetent, while others think they are trying to ensnare every self-loading rifle in the state with a wide net.

What seems clear is that the federal legal definition of a “semiautomatic rifle” was merely cut and pasted into the initiative, with the word “assault” inserted so as to capture literally all semi-auto rifles, including popular .22-caliber rimfires used by countless young hunters and adults for small game hunting, recreational shooting, rodent and predator control and even smallbore competition.

Cameron Kasky Leaves March for Our Lives, Explains Why

This one you should read (and listen to, podcast linked in article)…

On his current relationship with March for Our Lives: I left the March. I’m off the board. I left the organization and if I thought that my friends and the people I worked with couldn’t do it without me I would not have done that, but alas all of our efforts looking forward looked like they didn’t really need my involvement and while I could have helped it wasn’t crucial. You know what I thought in some of the platforms that I have for only the worst reasons is something I really believe in, because I’m a Spider man fan, and I can tell you with great platform comes great responsibility.  I thought it was my responsibility to take all the things I was kicking myself for and to encourage others to avoid it.

On his new podcast “Cameron Knows Nothing”:  My whole message is I was dropped up as an expert. The whole message was these kids are the real experts. Look, I have some very intelligent friends. Some friends who can intellectually run circles around me, but I’m not the expert in pretty much anything.

Concealed Carrier Stops Possible Mass Shooting, Shoots Perpetrator

This seems to have been buried in the news, unsurprisingly…

A man walked into a Roanoke gaming parlor early Tuesday and opened fire before being shot and killed by an employee, police said.

Jeffrey Maurice Burnette, 27, of Roanoke was pronounced dead at Suga Ray’s Gaming in the 3600 block of Shenandoah Avenue Northwest, spokeswoman Caitlyn Cline said.

And people wonder why I roll my eyes at mention of any “sisterhood”…
This is the depths to which politics has sunk in 2018.
[check out the video here]
Did you catch that at 1:21?

That is Delaney Tarr.  As in Parkland student Delaney Tarr said “when they give us that inch, that bump stock ban, we will take a mile.”

What the hell does she have to do with sexual assault?

Nothing.  But she’s a famous Progressive youngster and she’s going to jump into this with “[Dr. Ford’s] testimony are credible.”   She, like David Hogg, barely qualifies as a survivor of anything and has now jumped onto the rape survivor bandwagon.

And what the hell is this “your sisters” thing?  Sisters of what?  Sisterhood of rape survivors?  Sisterhood against Kavanaugh?

These women over and over saying that her story is credible without evidence and that they support her is horrifying.

Vox: 262 Mass Shootings in America in 2018

You know, I don’t think that’s how you math…

Multiple mass shootings have occurred in just the past two days — at a courthouse in Masontown, Pennsylvania; a business in Middleton, Wisconsin; and a Rite Aid distribution center in Aberdeen, Maryland.

This is, apparently, not abnormal for 2018. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been nearly as many mass shootings so far this year as there have been days.

“There have been 262 American mass shootings (4+ shot or killed in the same incident, not including the shooter) in the 263 days of 2018,” the Gun Violence Archive tweeted.

This is roughly in line with what we’ve seen in recent years. In all of 2015, there were 335 mass shootings. In 2016, there were 382. In 2017, there were 346

The Best Time to Talk About Gun Control is Right After a Shooting

Good to know they’ve carefully mapped out the push for gun control…

After a gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds more at a concert in Las Vegas, Nevada, US Democrats called for new gun control legislation. But two days after the shooting, senator Mitch McConnell deemed such a discussion “premature,” saying “it’s particularly inappropriate to politicize events like this.” It’s a refrain you hear again and again in the aftermath of mass shootings in the US. However, a new study suggests that right after a shooting might be the time when people are most amenable to considering gun control laws, regardless of political leanings.

The study, published in the journal Research & Politics, polled over 1,200 US citizens six days after the deadly Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, about their emotional state and political opinions. As one might expect, the more conservative a person’s political beliefs, the less likely they are to favor gun laws or to believe that the government intervention can prevent shootings.

But anxiety disrupts that pattern: staunch conservatives who reported feeling highly anxious after the Pulse shooting were more likely than less anxious conservatives to favor gun laws by around 40 percentage points. Highly anxious conservatives were 20 percentage points more likely than low-anxiety conservatives to think the government can prevent shootings. Liberals, on the other hand, were already likely to support gun control and to believe that the government could be effective in preventing shootings, so anxiety was less likely to change their beliefs.

It won’t help the people who really need it, but Penn and Teller are always entertaining . . .

  1. That’s an awful place for a holster. You fall on your back in a scuffle, you can’t get to your weapon, at worst our break your back.

Good on Kasky. That kid was an annoying little twerp but I’m glad he’s humbled himself. Hope it leads to something constructive.

    • He’s got an extensive interview on the Rubin Reporr that just came out this week. I watched about 85 seconds before I realized what side he’s on and clicked off. My point- there’s nothing good about him. Because of him and the other little bastards, the 2A is being infringed all over our nation, specifically with that over 21 garbage.

    • Say what? He refers to “his podcast”, he is thinking he is now able to monetize his stupidity, make the big bucks, become the Billy Graham of gun control, here we go this is gonna be fun!!!

  2. On Kavanaugh’s nomination, the senate should have held the vote today, this whole thing is a stall and delay stunt increasing demands daily, to testify proffered by the Left.
You think the Left is insane wait till the Ruth Badgirl announcement comes.

        • Lol. Hard right? You mean the THOUSANDS of fascists, skin heads and klansmen? As compared to the millions of socialists, communists and Liberal Terrorists on the left, who are all bonafide domestic enemies? The ones our Founders warned us about….

    • He was nominated Jul 09, 2018. Should have been voted/approve by the Senate within 10days. This veting by the Judiciary had NO basis in fact was invented after WWII

        • The advise and consent function need not take 2+ months. Kavenaugh’s is way longer than the SOP for most SCOTUS confirmations.

In 2016, the fact is the opposition, for better or for worse, refused to advise and consent, full stop. That ain’t the case now, with the Dems in the minority status. Their delay tactics are not built within the rule based framework of the Senate; they’re outside the rules, trying to get what they want through hook and crook alone.

        • Garland has a problem because elections have consequences. Do you not accept that tenet of The Great One? He sneered as he said it, remember? Now you and Garland can just live with it.

    • If she goes and Trump and the Republicans still hold power, I hope they find someone so far right that Kavanaugh and Gorsuch look like liberals in comparison. Just out of spite.

  3. Yeah I don’t know if Kavanaugh is going to be the saviour of the 2nd(or get rid of baby murder). But this chit STINKS. The guy has a stellar rep which ONE crazy cow is destroying with zero proof. ANYONE connected with the Parkland kiddie krusade is not worth commenting on…

    • What steller rep? Either he was legally required to be a yes man for most of his judicial career and we know nothing about the real Kavanaugh, or he has a hard on for precedent above the Constitution. Neither is a good thing. Send him back and find another Gorsuch.

      • We’ll find out when the announcements are made on what cases are granted cert.

If 2A cases show up, we’ll have an idea of where we stand. Thomas is chomping at the bit to “give the 2A the respect it deserves”, a direct quote from justice Thomas…

  4. I really have a problem with intelligent liberals (the stupid ones as well). They talk, talk, and talk some more and never get to the point. Some of these folks are smart, but they are wired differently and lack some common sense. I fail to see what’s so awesome about this kid’s comment. It is just boring fluff, as if he was continuously talking to himself.

  5. I-1639
The thing mentioned above are important, but more critical is the training requirement to KEEP YOUR FIREARMS. and annual background checks; Who might you ask will be charged with keeping the records…… The department of licensing, I $#!+ you not! And WSP.
IF you get a false positive on a BG check Or fail to commit to annual training you get a visit by the friendly po-po to collect your guns.
YOU CRIMINAL, WHY DONT YOU THINK OF THE CHILDREN YOU DEPLORABLE BASTARD$!

Oh yeah. And a provision for an ad hoc review panel to decide if you get your guns back. (Yeah right)

    • Really? I mean, is that actually true? If so, I’m gonna have to predict a whole new meaning to “suicide by cop”, you don’t have to go out and do something stupid, just wait for them to come to your house and start blasting. Sooner or later, one will live long enough to get you. I don’t think the cops will like it much, though. But the people who pass such laws don’t value cops much, so there’s that.

    • — She doesn’t know when it was.
      — She doesn’t know what year it took place
      — She doesn’t know what month it took place
      — She has no idea where it took place
      — She doesn’t know if 4 boys were there
      — It could have been 2 boys?
      — Three of the accused boys deny the charges
      — She doesn’t think any females were there
      — Wait, maybe now there was a female there?
Christine Blasey Ford works for Corcept Therapeutics, a pharmaceutical that produces an abortion pill called mifepristone. Martha, Brett’s mother, granted motion dismissing a 1996 foreclosure action against Christine’s parents, Ralph and Paula Blasey. Christine had participated in the “pro-science/anti-Trump rally and donned a pussy hat. Lets not forget “She doesn’t have a political bone in her body.”

Additional fun facts: Debra Katz, one of the attorneys representing Christine Ford attended a resistance rally against the president in 2017 and promised to “fight back.”

The attorneys for Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser are scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin next month.

Ricki Seidman, the Democratic operative who is advising Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser, predicted in July that there is a “strategy” to defeat Kavanaugh’s nomination.

    • Actually, someone needs to ask her about the drunken high school sex parties, all the drinking until they blacked out, and hitting on guys. It’s been said that there is yearbook proof, and several witnesses are willing to testify to Ford’s unscrupulous character. And to boot a friend of hers, has now retracted her story about believing Ford’s account of that night.

      • She has said she wants an FBI investigation before she testifies, I say let’s go ahead and have them investigate her. And publish the results!

  6. ” “[Dr. Ford’s] testimony are credible.” ”

She hasn’t even given a testimony as yet at least not under oath.
Everyday she keeps changing the conditions and dates she is willing to testify,Monday morning if she doesn’t show go directly to the vote on the nomination.

    • She had until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning to respond to Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassleys offer for Monday morning. That time has now passed. And the FBI isn’t going to investigate the matter. Besides with her flip flopping on her story, it’s no wonder she doesn’t want to be put under oath, for lying under oath is felony perjury. It’s all stall and delay. Well it looks like the end of the road for her is in sight.

  7. That holster has to be the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I’ve seen stupid stuff, but that rates right up there at the top of majorly f—ing stupid. But wait, there’s more! Order now and we’ll send you this idiotic piece of bent plastic and all you do is stand on it and twist. Just pay separate processing and handling. Note we didn’t say shipping, because that’s even more.

    • Im no fan of small of the back carry. It has precisely the same inherent problems as appendix carry. But it’s certainly not “the stupidest”. in fact, outside of a shoulder rig that would require a jacket, this specific format is the only one I’ve ever seen that makes it feasible to conceal a 30 round extended mag. This isn’t for everyone, but it might’ve visble for some folks.

        • just make sure no one you love happens to be standing anywhere to the left of you

Also you’d have to make a very particular path of draw to not point it at yourself as you bring it around to firing.

        • unless you move your legs forward an bend your back backwards you will flag yourself trying to draw quickly. Unless you make awkward extended arm movements purposely facing your muzzle outwards from your back and towards the ground in a huge circle then flagging everyone to your left/right (which ever side you carry) while you finally get the muzzle pointed in the correct direction 6 seconds later.

Go ahead, try it. Horrible movements and an utter waste of potential life saving seconds.

btw, I hate these flagging disputes… they are so fucking pointless because you always flag yourself or someone. always. Get over it. That said, this method of carry (the small of the back) is FUCKEN STUPID!

        • I think it’s worth talking about given that unholstering (and holstering) is when NDs happen the most in the wild. A good belt holster at the 3-4pm position provides a very clean draw compared to most ‘cool’ methods. I don’t believe in flagging as an issue when the gun is holstered, however. While most guns won’t go off unless the trigger is pulled, even those that are not drop safe aren’t so bad as to go off randomly in a holster.

        • I think it would be a good idea for a back-up gun , or maybe undercover work. At this time , flagging becomes a moot point, as you’ve already got one gun in the fight(presumably). Remember the one is none, two is one, mantra. It works for me, at least.

      • People have warning the sheeple public for decades….yes, the reality is going to be scary for people just waking at this late hour.

  8. Looks like Washington state could be that place “Where the next shot heard 👂 around the nation…Starts another American Revolutionary War that purges ALL Marxist Politcians/Closet Authoritarians/and present tassel loafer tyrants…And prevents ANYMORE attempts to dismantle our U.S. Constitutional-Bill of Rights…Especially, the 2nd Amendment….As for the “Florida Tide Pod Eater”…STFU!

    • I live in Washington state and that what I’ve been calling for a revolution. Bring all the commie liberals before a revolutionary court and if found guilty of treason hang them. If found guilty of some other crime again’s the United States lock up for a long time.

  9. Sick and tired of all this free advertising for Amazon. I don’t buy anything from Socialist/Communist Bezos and I never will. So tired of supposed pro-gun websites sending everyone to Amazon. Just stop it!
