IWA is the annual European equivalent of our SHOT Show. Most of the world’s major firearms manufacturers are there in Nuremberg, just as they’re in Las Vegas each January. This Year’s IWA OutdoorClassics was scheduled to run from March 6 to 9.

We had heard rumors of companies dropping out of IWA due to concerns over corona virus. The rumors were that companies including Warne, Eagle Imports, HS Precision, Grovtec, SIG, Blaser, C-Products, and others had cancelled their show plans.

You can certainly understand the companies’ concerns about traveling overseas. But we didn’t have confirmation of any of this.

Now however, this notice has gone up on the IWA website:

Due to the new situation regarding the spread of the corona virus, NürnbergMesse has decided to postpone IWA OutdoorClassics 2020 from the planned date of 6-9 March 2020 to a date in 2020, which has yet to be determined.

We hope you will understand the decision taken. The aim of every trade fair must be to create a special experience for exhibitors and visitors alike and to facilitate the diverse establishment and expansion of business relationships. Unfortunately, this goal cannot be achieved under the current circumstances.

This isn’t the first big meeting in Europe to cancel as a result of the spread of the virus.

The next big event in the gun industry is the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Nashville. It’s scheduled for April 16 to 19. That’s still a ways off, but you have to believe the NRA is taking this move into consideration given current events.

    • Before the hippies ruined it, Europe was like the birthplace of civilization or something like that, they have everything there if you know where to look.

    • Really?
Germany has a “Gunbroker” style auction website, its named Egun.de
Any legal firearm owner in the US can purchase “unrestricted” firearms (by wire transfer in €s), have the seller ship to a German Export Co (Krico, for example), pay the export/import and document fees, submit EUCs (end user certs) to the DOJ/BATFE/German Auth for approvals, then have the importer marked firearms delivered to the FFL of their choice. The process takes around 4 months.

        • Glad that pointing out the fact that GB style auctions are accessible to US buyers elicits a “cool story bro” on The Truth About Guns.
Shows how “truth” is handled here.
Continue being surprised that “gun shows” are not a US thing.

        • Why? Was it “NOT” true?

I was unaware that Europe had many countries where owning a gun was actually possible. Oh, yes, we know about Switzerland, but by and large, all were hear about is how guns are virtually inaccessible in Europe.

          Hence,

          “Cool Story Bro”

        • Hey Kyle, look up the meaning of “cool story bro”, then you will understand what the comment means.
Is this your first day on the interwebz?

  1. The question in my mind is not how much Corona virus itself disrupts daily life. Rather, how much people panic and cause way more disruption due to over reaction.

    • Las Vegas is close to the largest Chinese population in America and American-Chinese regularly take buses to gamble in Vegas. The older Chinese people jump on a bus to spend the weekend gambling, it’s very normal/common. Younger Chinese say older Chinese are not very good at sanitation.

Vegas is well known for spreading disease and sickness. I hear many white people say they got sick while at Shot Show, don’t hear the same from non whites that attend. Not sure if COVID19 attacks Europeans as much as it does Asians.

  2. I have no doubt other large public gathering’s will be cancelled. Rumor has it the Toyko Olympics may be postponed or cancelled outright…the Japanese have no love for China. Or their disease.

  3. It’s just a cold.
The seasonal flu is far worse.
    Also,
Cancel major events, bury cities and send armed men in hazmat suits to weld doors shut and steal away anyone with a cough.
Just a cold, bro. Just a cold.

    • It’s kind of amazing how many people I’ve seen in comments sections (I know you’re being tongue in cheek) talk about the flu as if it makes sense to compare a new and emerging disease to one that spreads as a pandemic every year.

Yeah, the flu has killed more people every year. That’s because everyone gets it. If everyone gets this because it’s as contagious as the flu that would be about 20% of the world falling into critical sickness and 2% dying. Aside from the human costs, even if you aren’t badly afflicted, that could be the start of a major world-wide economic depression.

      • I did a little research yesterday. If you remove the cases in Wuhan during the first 2 weeks, the worldwide death rate is about 0.15%, which is the same as influenza. Why remove those cases? Because the disease was new and caught the Chinese by surprise. It took them awhile to identify the symptoms and vectors, and a lot those infected early were too far gone. And also because there have undoubtedly been many cases with symptoms too mild to recognize.

There are now 5 known types of corona viruses that can infect people. The most common are estimated to be responsible for 1/4 of common cold cases. It’s too early to tell, but CoVid-19 will most likely go the way of SARS, MERS, and H1N1. In the meantime, it’s a great way to sell newspapers and media advertising and give “experts” plenty of camera time. And possibly put us into a recession, hurting Trump’s chances of re-election. Dems and the media are already giddy about that.

        • TroutBum5,

If you remove the cases in Wuhan during the first 2 weeks, the worldwide death rate is about 0.15%, which is the same as influenza. Why remove those cases? Because the disease was new and caught the Chinese by surprise.

What does “new” and “surprise” have to do with anything? There were no publicly available vaccinations nor anti-viral drugs when China first publicized the outbreak and there still are no vaccinations nor anti-viral drugs. And the fatality rate at the recent outbreak in Italy is pretty much the same (around 2%) as everywhere else — including the early cases in China.

      Ezekiel 5:12

      • Rest easy America, our fearless leader, Donald Trump has prepared a tasty word salad for you this morning that should make you feel much better!

“There is no reason to be panicked about it but when I mentioned the flu, I asked the various doctors ‘is this just like the flu?’ because people can die of the flu and this is very unusual.
It is a little bit different but in some ways it’s easier and in some ways it’s a little bit tougher but we have it so well under control, we have done a very good job.”

Well, it seems he has a firm grasp on the situation, remain calm, all is well.

Nothing to fear here, move along…

        • Perspective whiner49er.
Broke O’Bummer appointed creepy sleepy Joe “let your children rub my hairy legs” Biden as the Cancer Czar. The American citizens were told that cancer WOULD be cured BEFORE the end of the O’Bummer 2nd term.
Any “word salad” slights you claim Trump may commit PALE when compared to the undisputed MASTER of BS “word salads”, Broke O’Bummer.
Reality, Trump imposed a travel ban IN JANUARY to minimize risk to the US. He took a ton of BS from the left over it but it GREATLY reduced the exposure here. Now the left cries Trump is not doing enough?
The dems have proven without ANY doubt they’re incapable of effectively leading and governing in the US, and the voters have seen it. Enjoy the TDS in November.

    • Shire-man,

According to the available public information, this Corona virus (Covid-19) could end up killing many more people than influenza.

First of all, it seems to be extremely virulent. Look at the outbreak in an isolated Italian city. And look at the outbreak at a South Korean church. Those are BIG numbers of infected people in a very small space/area in a very short period of time.

Second of all, look at the fatality rate. It hovers around 2% according to the numbers that I keep seeing. Contrast that with influenza which apparently has a fatality rate of about 0.1%.

Third, tens of millions of people in the United States receive influenza vaccines every year. While the effectiveness of the influenza vaccine is anyone’s guess on any given year, it stands to reason that it does indeed prevent millions of illnesses and who knows how many deaths. We also have anti-viral drugs which are supposed to reduce the severity (and fatality rate?) of influenza. Thus influenza vaccines and anti-viral drugs reduce how many people contract and transmit influenza as well as the severity of influenza illness — which significantly reduces the impact of influenza virus in our nation. Unfortunately, there is no corresponding vaccine and there are no known anti-viral drugs which work on Corona virus.

If it turns out that Corona virus spreads more easily than influenza, we could be looking at losing on the order of 1% of our population in the United States. That is a pretty big deal in my book.

  4. Corona Virus, pity the poor humans. Modern antibiotics getting closer to Super Bug. Is Keith Richards going to be the last man standing,. “

    • Yes, Keith has become virtually immortal, he can survive anything.

Keith and the cockroaches are the only things that will survive nuclear war:
“I saw the bright lights, I thought we were on!”

  5. Never fear, once again the stable genius as seen the future and prepared accordingly.
Don’t believe the Democrat hoax about coronavirus, it’s all a plot by Hillary Clinton!

“ The president introduced his fiscal year 2021 budget proposal on Feb. 10, just 11 days after the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concerns. The spending plan included a 16 percent reduction in CDC funding from the 2020 spending levels.

In fact, all of Trump’s budget proposals have called for cuts to CDC funding, but Congress has intervened each time by passing spending bills with year-over-year increases for the CDC that Trump then signed into law.”

    • More piles of BS from 49er.
Why not go back and respond to the dozens of comment sections where your BS has been called out?
