“A woman’s ex-boyfriend forced his way into her apartment and fatally stabbed her and her two children before being critically injured in a knife fight with her current boyfriend,” abcnews.go.com reports. “Officers were called to the sprawling apartment complex on the north side of Columbus just before 1:30 a.m. and found the woman and children already dead and the two men with stab wounds, police Sgt. Rich Weiner said.” What else do you need to know? Not much, except this recap . . .

Erveena Hammonds’ ex-boyfriend, 35-year-old Wendell Louis Callahan [above], arrived at the apartment, forced his way in and killed her and the children before her current boyfriend, Curtis Miller, showed up and the two men scuffled, Weiner said.”

I find it hard to believe that people don’t keep a gun for self-defense. Because it’s more likely someone will use it to commit suicide or a child will hurt themselves or someone else with a negligent discharge?

If you’re not suicidal or irresponsible, why is that a concern? If you can drive yourself down the road, why would you believe you are too irresponsible or irrational to own a firearm? And you do have that concern, can  you please not interfere with those of us who don’t? And if you feel you must, please address you concerns to the family and friends of the deceased above. Thanks.

  1. Ban all knives? Knives scare me. It’s for the sake of the children.

Also – Hang this villain! It is bad enough to murder the woman, but murdering the kids too? What kind of monster does that?

Home carry people – especially if you have a psycho ex-boyfriend.

    • Sometimes hanging is the perfect punishment.
I hate bring up something unrelated, but if I could decide Anders Behring Breivik’s (Norwegian terrorist, respobsible for about 77 dead) outcome, it would either be execution by firing squad, or hanging.

  2. Don’t stick your dick in crazy. Don’t let crazy stick his dick in you. Reject any pol that doesn’t trust you to own and carry a gun.

    • I generally avoid all big cities like the plague. I’m not made for cities. This is a perfect example of why. Too much crime and too many people. I’ll take my small town surrounded by fields any day. Sure, there isn’t much to do, but it’s quiet and peaceful.

  3. Considering the situation, and I do not know any additional details on any of the actors in this drama, but it certainly seems likely that knives were the weapons of choice because at some point in their histories one or more of these people have been unconstitutionally deprived of their natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms for their own protection and the protection of family members in the mistaken belief that the community needed to be protected from them and the further mistaken belief that the government is in any way Constitutionally authorized to infringe on their right to keep and bear arms.

  4. I’m not trying to be a grammar or spelling nazi, but could this site please do a quick proof read before posting these articles? I’ve been noticing a lot of missing and misspelled words.

  5. “If you can drive yourself down the road, why would you believe you are too irresponsible or irrational to own a firearm?”
Such a good point. One I’d never considered before. Bravo, sir.

  6. By the way, the old adage “Never bring a knife to a gun fight”? How about “Never bring a knife to a knife fight”? Seems like ANY stand-off weapon is preferable to getting up close and personal with an opponent with a knife! Gun is preferable, obviously, 12 gauge or thereabouts, but a bat, chainsaw, even heavy frying pan…seems I heard somewhere, probably here, that if you get in a knife fight, even if you win (or don’t die), expect to get cut. I’ve been cut – doesn’t seem like the best possible option.

    • Spears are vastly superior to knives, but less concealable.

I learned that by reading C.S. Lewis “The Last Battle”.

        • I’ve got a sharp-pointed telescoping magnetic pick-up tool, that goes from pocket-pen size to about 2 feet. It isn’t much compared to a collapsible baton, but it is better than the empty hands New Jersey has decreed for non-LEOs.

  7. In reference to the Cincinnatti article earlier, no one was shot because someone lost their cool. No one was injured due to a negligent discharge because someone was carrying. This was a good outcome according to the gun grabbers’ agenda.

    • Yes, as I understand it, the woman and children really aren’t dead, because they weren’t shot. And it’s really preferable to be not-dead from multiple stab wounds than have a gun in your house, because you might shoot yourself with it. Shannon should be pleased.

    • This was a great outcome: no gun crime, no gun murder, the perp did not take the woman’s gun away and use it against her. What’s not to like? I mean other than the fact that a woman and two children were murdered. At least the current and former boyfriends just “scuffeled” rather than had a life and death knife fight over the bodies of two dead children.

  8. Sad. I used to live about a mile away from the apartment complex where this went down, and actually considered an apartment in that complex. There was once a fairly nice mall where that complex now stands, maybe 25 years ago. I went there often when I was a kid. Barring the presence of someone seriously mentally ill, every home should contain a firearm for home defense. At a minimum. Tragic.

  9. Well, it’s a good thing she didn’t have a gun or he might have taken it and used it against her!

Seriously, I’ve heard antis make that argument.

  10. “I find it hard to believe that people don’t keep a gun for self-defense.”

Well, me, too. Then again, I also find it hard to believe that people slam closed the barn door after the horse has bolted.

Yes, anything can happen, any time, any place, to anyone. However, there are some extremely reliable predictive variables that drive up or down your probability of violent encounters, especially those resulting in your death. All of them are voluntary, lifestyle related.

So please do exercise your God-given rights to keep and bear arms and of self-defense. However, if you really want some bang for your safety, security and self-preservation buck, then examine the lifestyle decisions you make; particularly those around criminal conduct, substance abuse, and the people whom you allow into your private life.

    • It said he’d already been in for 8 years. Not sure he’d be 50% more rehabilitated by 50% more prison.

Of course, cue his mom, who said he’d never do such a thing.

    • What we have here is a federal sentencing guideline loophole.

      A real one.

So the feds are releasing actual violent murderous sociopaths intent on committing violence against us law abiding citizens, and they are also working to disarm us law abiding citizens.

And yet we are told by statist apologists and gun control advocates far and wide, that we do not need firearms as the police are there for our protection (they are not), that the state can and will protect us and has our best interests as their priority.

Just like with healthcare, all we need do is give control of our healthcare over to the state and, among other things, we will be able to keep our doctor.

They are lying, have all along been lying and will continue to lie about these things – why not, the voters are buying their bullshit and keep voting them into office.

      Isn’t that interesting.

      • Yep. We get the government we keep voting for. Or at least, enough people keep voting for.

Ben Franklin said it, we have a republic, if we can keep it.

And something else that those founders said, a republic only lasts until the people realized they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury.

So from Roosevelt on, we’ve had an unending succession of politicians voting largess upon the populace, and the populace gorging at the public trough. And the populace keep voting for the same lying, scheming and two faced politicians. But that public trough keeps being filled. and those same politicians keep getting voted in.

        Surprise.

  11. If the murder weapon had been a gun, they would have made national news of it.

But since it’s “Just a knife” it runs on page 6 in Columbus.
