FPS Russia is back after a decade-long hiatus (in Internet terms). The faux Slav explains his absence by admitting that “we lost a member of our team.” Ya think? Back in January, person or persons unknown tied-up FPS’ business partner Keith Ratliff and put a bullet (or several) in his brain. [The Georgia Bureau of Investigation tells TTAG the case is “still under investigation.”] FPS celebrates his return by shooting a mannequin soaked in gasoline with a UTS shotgun. Which breaks (the gun). Is it me or does this demo feel different knowing someone tapped FPS’ BFF? Especially as FPS recommends (jokingly) that firemen shoot each other in an emergency. Once again, FPS eschews proper eye and ear pro and blasts solid objects at point blank range. In some cases, live and learn does not apply.

  1. At least he’s not putting others’ lives in danger. At least I don’t see him doing that. And quite frankly, he’s only risking injuries to himself that are not really life threatening. I’ll give him a break.

  2. You really have out for the lack of eyes and ears don’t you, Robert. I get ears and even eyes in the case of bulpups, but in 10 years of shooting never had any reason to want glasses.

    • My range glasses have a wonderful little chip out of em from a copper fragment. Indoor range and I wasn’t even shooting… I also wear a seatbelt when riding or driving in moving vehicles. Like Mr. Leghorn I am an EMT (AEMT-P) I trust my co-workers and myself to not get into accidents. it’s the other idiots on the road I protect against. same goes for eyes and ears at the range.

  3. That was one of the best videos I think I’ve seen from him. He’s just having fun. I like to have fun.

That shotgun is a flaming pile of shit, though. Two complete failures and at least two minor failures (that I saw) from the third one?

    • The Nutnfancy review of the UTS comes to the same conclusion. Not reliable at all. It suffered too many failures to count… especially considering the length of his review video!

  4. All I hear is “blah blah blah…you’re friend was killed, you shouldn’t make anymore videos…blah blah blah”. I have no problem with this guy and find his videos entertaining. He took some time off but he’s doing what he does.

In the words of FPS Russia, “don’t be bi*ch!!”

  5. reasons for eyegear

    1. splatter from steel or rocks probably wont penetrate your carharts but will take out your eye, especially with 22lr and 223
ex: i shot a 20ish grain, aguila, primer only 22lr at a dirt wall from 10 ft, hit a tiny rock, it ricocheted thwap! and hit me in the right thigh. it would have popped my eye easy

    2. faulty ammo or firearm
ex. shot a friends older 22lr bolt action, it was working fine until i took a shot that blasted back into my right eye from the breech, not wearing eyewear, stung alot but no permanent damage. the back of the round was convex with a slight rip in the brass, fired fine after. Was it the round, the gun?

I’m trying to learn these lessons once, the easy way.

    Eyewear

    and ears.

  6. Man, that UTS-15 is a POS. 3 shotguns and every single one of them suffered malfunctions (including the first two that broke).

  7. He does wear glasses throughout. We’ve come a long way in
eye protection and not everything looks like the old sterility
frames. I’ll hold judgement until I know whether or not
he’s wearing trendy ANSI rated poly or just sunglasses.

    • The side of your sockets? Sure. And a full face shield (http://www.harborfreight.com/adjustable-face-shield-46526.html) will protect your whole face. What’s your point? I’m not as concerned about the side of my sockets as I am about my ‘balls.

Two weeks ago, a woman, who was just spectating at the indoor range I frequent, was hit by a piece of jacket that flew all the way back from the backstop (25 yard range). It hit her in the neck and she was bleeding like crazy. The piece of jacket didn’t penetrate far, but it was stuck in her neck and it was decently large. If she wasn’t wearing eye protection (she was) and it hit her in the eye instead, she likely would have lost that eye.

It happens. Wear eye pro. Be safe. Protect your ‘balls.

BTW — I’ve pulled a sliver of iron out of my own eyeball with a tweezers. Your eyes are important and they aren’t all that tough. Wear eye pro.

    • Fair enough. Here’s a pic of Team FNH
Karla Herdzik with front lens only.

      https://www.fnhusa.com/l/about/team-
      fnh-usa/profiles/karla-herdzik/

I myself wear Oakley M Frames, but I’m
siding with Matt and Tex74 on this one.
If shooters want to increase the
probability of eye injuries, that’s their
      business. Otherwise those good ideas
      and safety products quickly become
      regulatory encroachments.

    • As a kid I shot a 22 all the time. Into a pond, at dirt banks, at bright rocks, at just about anything and I never used eye protection. But then I was a stupid kid. Hopefully I know better now.

  8. I don’t know what FPS Russia’s eyewear of choice is. However, I have a very nice pair of Wiley-X glasses that provide full-seal and an appropriate level of ballistic protection. From a distance, or on video (without a close-up) they would look like regular sunglasses (when using the interchangeable arms instead of the strap), but they are milspec ballistic resistant and shatterproof. I’ve had them since my unit issued them in the desert over six years ago and they haven’t failed me once.

I’m not saying the sunglasses in the video would meet the same standards, but it *is* possible.

  9. Mostly eye pro will keep ejected brass from conking you in the eye, and also as has been pointed out, splatter back. I don’t have a problem with this dude not being safe. If he wants to get injured or killed that’s his problem. What is really troublesome is the fact that his videos are very popular and some chucklehead is going to emulate him and get messed up.

Sorry, I’m a buzz kill and all but saftey is not optional, a lax attitude towards saftey tells me everything I need to know about someones attitude with firearms.

  10. I don’t think its fair to say that…nah I can’t finish the thought.

He does a lot of dumb things without worry of consequences, and eventually it will bite him in the ass, and the outcome of that ass-bite will be fuel for our schadenfreude-filled entertainment quota.

My only real issue is that it simply paints gun folks in a hilariously bad light.

  11. he actually always wears ear protection, hes stated this many times. They are specially made and clear so not very visible on film. Like someone stated before he endangers no one but himself.

  12. This post is so tasteless I don’t even know where to begin.

“put a bullet (or several) in his brain.”
    What the hell is that?

We get it, the guy killed himself or was possibly killed. Who do you think you are speaking of someone else in such a manner? And for what, not wearing proper eyewear?

In my opinion FPS Russia has far more class than Robert Farago.

Report the news, keep your vile inner thoughts and opinions to yourself. We will all be better for it.

  13. Personally I don’t have a problem with his lack of proper ear and/or eye pro. If he’s willing to risk losing sight in one eye for the sake of making some entertaining YouTube videos, God bless his commitment to his acting career!

I would hope that almost all readers on TTAG already know and recognize proper firearms safety whether through self-education or from their mentors who introduced them to shooting. The problem lies with kids who see this stuff on YT without having any experience with guns, turn 18 (or 21 depending on state), go out and buy themselves a few guns without the faintest idea of what they’re doing and behave recklessly, to the detriment of responsible gun owners. Not so much with the lack of hearing protection, but more so shooting without a safe backstop, poor trigger discipline, reckless pointing of the muzzle, etc. Growing up I was fortunate enough to have a father that instilled in me the importance proper gun handling techniques and the responsibility that goes along with gun ownership at a very young age. Of course the more people we can get involved in shooting sports and gun ownership the better, but anytime you have the opportunity to act as a mentor instead of our buddy FPS, go for it.

  14. Half the people that love FPSRussia: I can’t wait to see what sh*t he’s going to blow up next. The other half that hate FPSRussia: I can’t wait to see what sh*t he’s going to blow up next…

  15. As someone born long before the AARPANET, let alone the WWW, “FPS” stands for ‘Feminine Protection Spray’.

Which means cookie no stinky even though no washy…

  16. FPSRussia is sheer entertainment value. Given a choice of sitting through a 45+ minute NutNFancy review or watching FPSRussia, the choice is obvious…

  17. Alright to the posters who are ranting about RF’s pointing out unsafe practices, I think you need to chill out. The whole IGOTD premise is that we will police and call out our own for unsafe actions and behaviors , and do not need the government to make a law or regulation. RF is free to point out FPS’s blatant unsafe practices so that someone may learn from it. and FPS is free to take his own risks…

  18. Wow, what a crappy shotgun! It wasn’t even like he was riding it hard. I think this wasn’t that bad, compared to his usual fare, I think this video wasn’t too bad.

  19. You idiots are incredible. He is an entertainer, he does stupid stuff like this to entertain us, not to teach us what gun safety is.

It’s not like he’s saying “oh hi guy’s I’m a rolemodel, huehue what I do is safe”, he does this stupid crap so he hopes we enjoy it and maybe get a few laughs.

  20. More importantly, can TTAG review the UTS-15? I’ve heard everything from “crap” to “gotta have one…”

  21. Just saw the Nutnfancy review…jesus, what a pile of crap. Had my attention, though…SRM is the answer?

  22. These close call video you see by him are fake as fake as his Russian accent. The one where the door flies at him when he shoots that truck the door is CGI. The drone with a machine gun flying around shooting stuff it’s CGI. This guy gets huge funding has someone who does really good CGI work, so it’s safe to assume in any of the extreme video you see him do that is life threatening and all that well it’s all fake. Seriously don’t understand why most people can’t spot this.
