  1. What’s the methodology? Indiana looks borked. Compare western Indiana with southern Illinois. Support for gun control goes up when crossing the Wabash into Rockvilke, Terre Haute, Vincennes, etc? I don’t think so.

    • As someone who grew up in east-central Illinois, that divide struck me as very strange, as well. We like our guns, but we can’t really compare to our Hoosier friends across the border.

  2. No kidding, the two Americas are 1. major liberal dem run cities, and 2. EVERYONE ELSE! Looks pretty good for the home team if you ask me.

      • Or the similar type. it;s funny to see the dark red spots and ask just a few quick questions…1- Do these areas have some of the highest violent crime rates in the nation? 2- Are these areas some of the most restrictive when it comes to legal firearm ownership? 3- How’s that working out for you?

If it’s broken and the same thing over and over again hasn’t worked… Liberal answer that we push harder for even more of the same. Because if a little bit of fail makes something worse then a bunch more will make it better?

      • Although Bloomberg was originally a R, I believe he switched his affiliation to Independent in his last mayoral term.

      • Bloomberg is known as a RINO, or Republican In Name Only. These are people whose policies and positions are, by any objective assessment, liberal and far more closely aligned with Democrats than Republicans, and not at all similar to conservatives.

Why do RINOs exist (when there isn’t much out there today in the way of DINOs)? There are different reasons. Some RINOs were always liberal, but the only path to political success for them hinged on claiming to be Republican. Could be because they live in a GOP stronghold, like W. Bush. Could be because they have a famous Republican relative and they’re trading on the family name and connections, like Jeb Bush.

Then there are Northeast RINOs. Among them you’ll find Maine Senators Snowe and Collins, and the Chafee family of Senators from Rhode Island. These are snobs. These are your limousine liberals, champagne socialists and Rockefeller Republicans. These are leftists who, strictly for branding purposes, cloak themselves in Republican attire.

They believe in all the same leftist nonsense as their Dem counterparts, but they’re snooty. They don’t want to be associated with those whom they consider dirty and beneath them, like union members, urban dwellers, immigrants, and, back in the day, Southerners. They’ll accept their votes, they just don’t want to be considered “one of them.”

Bloomberg is such a “Republican.” He believes in massive government control over people’s lives, just like Dems. He just prefers the air of sophistication afforded by the Republican brand.

      • I recall a discussion I heard on the radio during the last election. The caller was wondering why someone who was not only a RINO, but in many ways not even remotely a Republican, was on the primary ballot muddying the waters.

The response from a member of the RNC (not my favorite folks, but an authority nonetheless) was that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY for a political party to prevent anyone from claiming to be a member and running a campaign based on that claim. The only thing anyone can do is to research the candidate and determine for oneself if they are or are not what they claim to be.

Bloomberg may have decided at one time it was politically expedient to run as a Republican. He did not have to ask anyone’s permission to put that “R” after his name on the ballot. I believe that history shows us that he was lying then and will continue to lie for the foreseeable future.

    • Yea… more support for gun control in Northern Maine than Southern Maine – something is off. Wild-guess says the methodology involves asking questions in towns with lots of college students and summer residents.

      • Must’ve polled the village Dem in each town in northern New England since NH is in the middle (and NH is not pro-GC for the most part) and VT, is, well, VT.

        • If they polled Burlington, VT, then that chart makes sense. As Vermonters know, there’s Burlington, then there’s Vermont. I highly doubt any state with constitutional carry supports gun control.

      • It’s a self-selecting survey at isidewith.com. I took it last week and surprised myself a little with my results. The questions aren’t perfect, but it’s a lot more thorough than typical surveys, especially if you use the expanded questions.

One result I’d like to see is how important the topic of gun control rated relative to other issues (they cover many subjects).

    • The results make absolutely no sense. Maine resident, born and raised, and I can say with a good degree of confidence that northern maine, the townships, and unsettled territories, would not be in the orange band. Maybe, MAYBE neutral. If anything they mixed up their colors for my state. Southern Maine I could see being a little more orange, but not ‘the county’. No way.

  3. Federalists and Anti-Federalists.

    Anti-rights and pro-rights.

Whichever way to want to split it, those are the two Americas.

  4. I’ve seen this before. A half dozen metro areas on the East, West coasts plus Chicago want to tell the ENTIRE rest of the country what they can do. Screw them.

  5. Dear Iran,

When you finally have the ICBMs and Nukes this President is gifting you, please look at this map and target the red areas.

    • Oh, don’t worry; they will. But thankfully, the major population center communists will all be safe and snug as a bug in a rug (due to gun control) except for those nukes pointed at them by the religion of peace. The ultimate irony: the current administration is more interested in taking guns out of the hands of its own citizens than it is taking nuclear weapons out of the hands of jihadis who want to kill us all.

  6. Chips question on methodology is important. Not knowing the answer to that question and seeing the current sample size I have to say I am shocked that only 1% said ban all guns.

Think of it this way… if the Methodology good – 99% of all americans still support peoples right to bear arms in some form.

Now if the methology is really bad and favors anti guns postion. Based on these assumptions the fact that the current results show only 1% want a complete ban and only 6% want strict regulation is mind blowing. Given the endless FUD, misinformation, and lies pushed by anti gun groups to get only 7% of people to agree with you…..that is an Epic Fail.

I think this is a strong indication of just how badly the antis are doing.

  7. Oh yeah, around 2.5 million voters….. That’s a representative cross section of a 300+ million population. That’s proof of “two Americas”.
Who has the free time to put up this crap?

  8. Thats wierd.. I dont know anyone in MI who is for greater gun control.. must be more of those “made up statistics” someone pulls out of there ass

  9. Almost all of the heavy gun control advocates are around major metro centers. Except for Maine. What the heck is wrong with the folks in Maine for God’s sake? Geeze, maybe we need to get them to leave the Union.

  10. Uh yeah I’m not buying it. I live very close to Indiana…hard to find much anti-gun sentiment from what I see. Sure big cities but lots of stupid people have a myopic disconnect when it comes to voting for dumbocrats-“they’re racist bigots, homophobes” and the NRA lies about barry soetoro wanting to take my guns. Add in the rino’s and the ignorant get really confused. Whatever-we’re winning more than we’re losing…

  11. I have some issues as well. the north west part of California, including Del Norte, Humboldt and Trinity counties, show as yellow. while there aer a bunch of hippies on the coast up there, there are lots of loggers, hunters–and pot growers, that being the “Golden Triangle” that produces billions in some of the world’s highest potency marijuana. I seriously doubt those folks are in favor of more gun control. And all three counties are virtual “shall issue” CCW counties.

  12. They have the state of WA all F@#Ked up.. its NO Gun control from east of the cascades to the Idaho Border.
But I guess Bill gates means the whole state thinks his way.

    • Apparently Spokane has, for some reason, being getting more and more pro-gun control. They voted fairly strongly in favor of i594 and against i591…

    • You should look at the actual I-594 votes by county. There’s not a single one that didn’t have at least 20% support, and quite a few in the east had 40+%.

What’s interesting in WA map is how confined the strong anti-gun sentiment is to Seattle. You’d expect it to be spread more evenly around the entire Puget Sound area, but if you zoom in, it barely even spills over to the Eastside (which is yellow to Seattle’s orange), and Sammamish and Issaquah are already green. Which is either weird or (if true) interesting, because those are definitely very liberal leaning, it’s basically where people go to live from Seattle once they get kids; also a lot of Google/Microsoft/Amazon employees buy houses there.

  13. No. It’s only 1 nation. With 300+ million opinions. Freedom is messy. Noisey.even frustrating at times. But if every body is marching to the same tune, it ain’t freedom.

    • Screw that map, no way is all of eastern OR and eastern WA going to join Californistan… most likely most of northern CA, OR, and WA except MAYBE Seattle metro area would raise arms against that concept as well; no one likes southern California…

  14. I call bull.

There is no way that the state of Maine is one of the highest pro gun control. Pretty much the northern 3 New England states are heavily misrepresented.

Mass and New York has cut us off from the rest of sanity. Commence operation Bangor Airlift!

  15. Part of the point of our system of government is to try to protect us against the tyrrany of 50%+1.

There is one US, with various opinions about things – such as guns – that differ strongly from place to place. Those opinions don’t matter all that much unless they are translated into restrictions on rights … and that is something that’s been happening, and been fought, on many subjects throughout our history. It’s now being fought about guns, among other things, and I expect it will never really be settled.

But for now it is one country.

  16. Note to the thread: Don’t change the location or zip code on the map. It throws all the colors off. Keep it at “20001 DC” and just pan around the country.

  17. The perceived need for firearm regulation is largely a function of population density.

The green areas (halfway on the scale) are where most of America lives, and includes the big cities in Texas, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and Louisiana). The purple areas cover a lot of territory, but not that many people. The red areas cover a lot of people, but not that much territory.

  18. Something is off for the maine segment of the map. It shows the south of maine as pro gun while the north is anti. In reality it is pretty much the other way around. Hunting is in the north and the cities like Portland are in the south. But, even in the south it is still pretty pro gun. (I’m a bangor resident.)
