The Trayvon Martin gun range target—complete with Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea—is so politically incorrect it’s funny. Of course, laughing at its ballsy insouciance instantly qualifies you for a month at the Barack Obama Memorial American Values Reeducation Camp. (See what I did there?) “This is the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility,”  Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara told news4jax.com. “It’s this type of hatred — that’s what this is, it’s hate-mongering — that’s going to make it more difficult to try this case.” To his credit, the anonymous artist responsible for the target did not say word one about the First Amendment. “My main motivation was to make money off the controversy.” According to the news org, the target maker has retired from the business, probably figuring that he’d become a target, too.

  1. Yeah, that’s not gonna help the situation. Some people need to use their heads for more than a hat rack.

  2. “The Trayvon Martin gun range target—complete with Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea—is so politically incorrect it’s funny.”

No, actually it’s not funny at all. Poor taste, yes. Funny? Not so much. Now, I would like to see an Eric Holder target. That goofy looking dude deserves to be shot in effigy.

  3. “This is the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility,”

I think this is profoundly stupid, and I would neither produce or use such a target, but I have to rank having your ass beat by a mob as “Justice for Tayvon” a more disgusting, less civil act.

    • Oh I missed the documented mob beatings? I just got the shooting of an unarmed black teenager like myself.

      • I left a comment early this afternoon that cited around a dozen recent news stories of exactly that. More than a couple were about so-called “Justice for Trayvon” beat-downs.

The post was slated for moderator approval and has yet to appear, so I can only assume that information of that nature is not welcome here.

My only advice would be to use Google yourself. It’s not like the information isn’t there.

Largely, these stories off black-on-white hate crimes is going unreported in the national media, because it doesn’t fit the established narrative of blacks as perpetual victims of evil white oppression.

(Just look at the Trayvon case itself – nothing too out of the ordinary, until you start calling a half-Jewish/half-Latin cop-wannabe a “white” man.)

  4. I cannot believe I sacrificed so many years of my life to defend this idiot’s right to create such an inflammatory product. I can hear my father’s words right now:

“Son, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”

    • While I might not buy one, nor want one, at least the guy was honest. I want to make money off the controversy. Hey he is admitting it..
I wonder if this is copy write infringement of Trayvon’s likeness, and he will wind up in court?

  5. [begin devil’s advocate]

Of course when one kowtows to political correctness one risks experiencing nice guys finish last.

    [end devil’s advocate]

  6. “My main motivation was to make money off the controversy.”

Hey, give the guy credit, out of all the lawyers, media clowns, and race-baiters, he’s the only one so far to be honest about his motivation.

  7. Those kinds of targets are EXACTLY why some ranges in my area will not allow any targets with any kind of human shape or photo on them. Now I haven’t been shooting recently enough to see if “zombie” targets are exempt from the rule, but I’ve seen people removed from the range for shooting the typical “generic bad guy with a gun” target. I generally use either bulls eye targets or occassionally will shot ground hog targets I got a stack of from someplace.

  8. I think you guys are taking it way too seriously. I thought it was funny in a brazen kinda way. We’ve certainly seen other types of targets which were politically incorrect.

    • Maybe we could take things a little less seriously if we didn’t have to constantly worry about the ways lying, screeching, gun-grabbing tyrants would twist the simplest of things to promote their victim-creating agenda.

      • I don’t know if it was self-defense, but I suspect it was not. I suspect he thought the kid was armed, and made a mistake.

No one is saying the target is a good enough reason to take away people’s guns. It isn’t. All they are saying is that the target is despicable. And it is. It represents a dead kid. It represents every parent’s (and every gun owner’s) worst nightmare.

Even if it was self-defense, it was still preventable. Zimmerman will spend the rest of his life wishing he had just stayed in the car.

If it was just a mistake, then he will spend the rest of his life knowing that his mistake killed someone’s child for no good reason.

Anyone who carries a gun should play that scene out in their mind. If there is anyone out there who thinks it is all a big joke, then (in my opinion) that person is not responsible enough to own guns.

    • We should make a MikeB302000 target and sell it here on TTAG. It would be funny… in a brazen kind of way.

  9. from the news link:
“Firearm owners are buzzing about the Trayvon Martin targets on several gun enthusiast websites.
Very few have shown interest in purchasing the targets. Most have expressed disgust.”

    • If they were still on gun broker, and if my range allowed anything more than silhouettes as human targets, I would definitely buy some for the novelty. They’re funnier than the zombie targets.

      • You forgot “small-penis-compensating”, “obsessive”, “fetishist”, and “consumed by mommy issues”. Good try, though. 😉

  10. No surprise there at all. That’s how a lot of upstanding law abiding African American males feel. If the guy really wanted to make money, he would have marketed it as a sweatshirt saying “DON’T SHOOT, I LIVE HERE!”, or “HOLD YOUR FIRE, I’M A COP TOO!”

  11. “so politically incorrect it’s funny” Only to a sociopath. This is not funny at all. Maybe if and when you grow up you will realize exactly how UNfunny this kind of thing is, especially for the millions of people who have lost friends and family in the same way Trayvon Martin’s parents lost their child. Would you find a Leiby Kletzky action figure that you could dismember and shove in your refrigerator funny? How about a blow up doll of that little girl in Texas who was gang raped? That would be hysterical!

    • “…especially for the millions of people who have lost friends and family in the same way Trayvon Martin’s parents lost their child.”

So there are millions of black youths shot for brutally assaulting other minorities? Really? I’ll play devils advocate here just because it is so much fun, if millions of black youths brutally assault people and are subsequently shot, why is it then wrong to profile black youths as especially violent?

      • I didn’t say anything about there being of “millions of black youths” who did anything. That comes solely from your warped mind. It seems as if you are suggesting that if the person shot and killed is not a black youth than the killing does not meet your requirement of losing a loved one in “the same way.” I said there were millions of people like myself who have lost loved friends and family. My brother happened to be white. He was shot and killed during a heated argument by a person he did not know. His killer got 5 years for second degree manslaughter. I would be saddened and sickened if some psychopath decided to use an image of my brother for target practice. That’s all.

  12. Wow. This is beyond the pale.

Hey. I know. Let’s make targets of little kids with toys in their hands! What about some that look like children in a cradle! Ooo… Or old people! How about someone in a wheelchair?

Hopefully the man’s mother isn’t far behind, ready to slap some sense into him.

  13. Mr. Farago, I’m sure you’d think a target of an emaciated white man in dirty, striped clothing and a yellow Star of David on the shirt would be “so politically incorrect it’s funny,” too.

Oh wait, you whine about people buying Nazi relics, so I guess you’d fail to find the humor in the political incorrectness of the targets.

    You need a reality check.

  14. The unspoken reality is that an inordinate amount of crime in America is committed by black thugs upon their fellow blacks. Flash mobs, gang bangs, drug deals resulting in gun fights are perpetrated by young men often times wearing the hooded sweat shirt. This piece of clothing has been co-opted by the criminal (and wannabe types) element.

I, personally, have stopped wearing a sweatshirt with a hood to avoid being perceived as a thug.

Therefore, the target showing someone with a hooded sweatshirt is merely a reminder that we are practicing our shooting techniques at a symbol of today’s criminal element.

By the way, Trayvon was a low-level thug. He was no innocent teenager. His tweets that were made public showed a foul mouthed, aggressive punk who had bragged about assaulting a bus driver. This person was on the road to getting shot eventually. Trayvon decided to attack Zimmerman and pound his head to the pavement. His death was the consequence of his aggressive thug mentality.
