Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control group financed by billionaire anti-ballistic bully boy Michael Bloomberg. The former Mayor of New York City bought Shannon Watts’ astroturf org because he knew that his Everytown was a damp squib (as was his first civilian disarmament collective Mayors Against Illegal Guns) attempting – and failing – to occupy the same lane as MDA. Bloomberg realized that fighting gun control on the basis of rational thought was a mug’s game. What’s more emotional than . . .

Mom! I have to say it was a smart move. The only problem: Moms are are also extremely protective. And what protects life against violent attack better than a gun? I reckon there are just as many Moms tooling up as there are Moms who accept Watts’ anti-gun agitprop at face value.

Truth be told, you have to be willfully ignorant to accept the nonsense perpetuated by Watts’ bloody shirt waving theatrics. Or just ignorant. Either way, five minutes searching Google for “gun attack Europe” would disabuse of the notion mooted above. Five minutes that could change a pro-gun control American’s view of guns, gun control and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Not that America has a lock on willful ignorance. Here’s the top-rated comment (635 likes at the time of writing) underneath MDA’s post:

Jenni Hymoff Koeppel I live in Spain and no, we don’t worry about it. Only police and armed forces are armed legally and are only allowed to carry while on duty. Civilians who wish to use guns need licensing (which includes psychological testing, insurance and a safe to store their weapons). And may only use their guns in licensed areas for shooting practice or hunting. We also find the current situation in the USA totally unacceptable and cannot understand why there is so little control, given the very real danger everyone faces. And quite a few people refuse to travel to the USA out of fear of being shot – this is quite harmful to the tourism industry.

As they say in Spain, la ignorancia es felicidad. Or not.

  1. I knew a country once where only the police and military legally had guns. It was called Spain, and they stayed under the oppressive thumb of one Francisco Franco until he voluntarily gave it back to the King.

  2. They’re right. I mean no one else gets shot going to a concert (Bataclan), work (Charlie Hebdo), the store (Paris and Sydney), a school trip (Norway), public buildings (Canada) or an old person’s home (UK just today – http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-35189664). Nope. Absolutely no other developed nation on the planet has people shoot others with guns

    • +1

But you can’t attack them like that. They’re mommies and thus pointing out facts that contradict their feelings is sexist and you obviously want children to die.

    • Because I missed the edit window;

Oh, and here’s another example of a gun not being being used in a developed country, no ma’am – http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-35191558

I’m glad that they found a token Spaniard to declare that guns in the US are “unacceptable” and harming tourism. But just like predictions of “blood in the streets” it isn’t true. http://travel.trade.gov/view/f-2000-99-001/forecast/Forecast_Summary.pdf “Visitor volume in 2015 is expected to end the year up 0.4 percent to produce a new record of 75.3 million
visitors who stay one or more nights in the United States. 2016 should build on this growth and produce a 2.6
percent increase and a new volume record of 77.3 million visitors.”

      • Now there’s a scary thought. How many of those 77 million documented visitors to the United States are terrorists or other nasty people? Even if our Border Patrol screening is 99.9999% effective at ports of entry, that still means that no less than 77 terrorists or other nasty people walked right through a wide-open front door. Plus, imagine how many of the millions of illegal (undocumented) visitors are terrorists or other nasty people?

In reality we know there is no way that our intelligence, law enforcement, and border patrol services can be 99.9999% accurate/effective. How can they possibly have accurate dossiers on more than 77 million people from foreign countries?

        • You know what, this emphasizes one problem with using percentages with large numbers.

How many terrorists does it take to do some “real damage?” That 77 number you quoted seems like it would be more than enough to me.

Yet, all the while, how many people would be just as happy as little clams when told the benevolent and wonderful .gov properly vets 99.9999% visitors? I mean, that does sound awfully “efficient.”

Numbers are used to manipulate in subtle ways. Raw numbers vs percents, numbers vs rates, etc. I’ve also noticed that people in general have a really hard time with scale. For example, how many people truly understand what a trillion dollars is? Or even a billion?

        • @JR
          This is illustrative:
          A billion seconds is a 31.7 years.
A trillion is, well, a thousand times longer.

    • ” But it happens more often here” they exclaim…ignoring the fact that all of Europe could fit inside the USA and leave everything west of the Mississippi to spare.

Meanwhile Spanish citizens report they are 65% more likely to feel unsafe walking the streets alone than their US counterparts. (UN survey on crime and criminal trends)

      • Um, what definition of “Europe” are you using? Just the EU? Just the parts west of the old Iron Curtain? Or did you only leave out Russia?

    • Oak River – under shopping let’s not forget the several day massacre at the mall in Nairobi that costs dozens of people their lives. The one that led the Chairman of Interpol – a former Secret Service official in the Clinton Administration – to say that in the future there were only 2 effective ways to prevent such things happening again: have a massive armed police presence at all public events or for everyone to go armed. Know which one I am choosing.

    • Spain did have its own home grown terrorist problem with ETA, a Basque separatist group responsible for 3,300 attacks that left 952 dead and 2,000 injured.

Of course now that we mention Spain who can forget the Madrid bombings in 2004 by an Al-Qeada inspired cell, and the attacks in London in 2005. But those don’t count for the Moms because no guns were used.

      • Yes, the victims of those attacks aren’t as dead as they would be if guns had been used, so they can be ignored.

Even the gun attacks probably weren’t with .45s, which as you know will destroy the soul in addition to killing people deader than bombs and knives will, so I don’t see what the fuss is about, honestly.

  3. Bloomy Bucks knows that he relies on people with subnormal cognitive ability who believe such crap to keep his “movement” alive.

The scary thing is, those people vote.

  4. Armed Dads Against Communist Constitution Rapists (If you were looking for a pretty acronym, sorry).

    Out your local Communists everywhere.

  5. Most of those developed countries you can’t afford to all on that list due to low wages and unemployment. They keep pouring over all our borders, so I guess the getting shot thing is minimal in their minds when they sneak in.

  6. I am worried about getting shot just about as much as I am worried about getting hit by a bus. Yet, I still look both ways before I cross street. I carry just in case I’m dealt with spades that day, so I can always operate operationally.

  7. I live in the USA, and no we don’t worry about getting gored. Only ranches and farms have bulls, and they may only roam in pens and designated grazing lands. We find the situation in Spain totally unacceptable and cannot understand why there is so little control, given the bulls are free to chase people in the streets. And quite a few people refuse to travel to Spain out of fear of being gored–this is quite harmful to the tourism industry.

  8. Moms should demand some DADS be involved with their offspring to reduce the lack of respect for human lives in general and stop blaming inanimate objects for a human relationship problem.
Can’t you see there ARE GUNS HERE. They aren’t going away, so instead of backing into the wrong end of the problem turn around and address the real issue which is YOU.

  9. Some people in Spain find the relatively free gun laws in the U.S. to be unacceptable? Que horrible! Here’s an easy solution to that non-problem: shut your stupid yaps and stay in Spain. See? Everybody’s happy.

  10. And quite a few people refuse to travel to the USA out of fear of being shot – this is quite harmful to the tourism industry.

And I bet nobody he knows voted for Nixon, either.

  11. I don’t worry about being shot at any of those places. No one was scared of that until Bloomberg told them to be scared. Who is the party of fear again?

  12. Not all Mothers are caring generous women but we wouldn’t label all Mothers as dangerous because of the below examples:
    http://kdvr.com/2015/03/25/detroit-mother-confesses-to-killing-children-bodies-found-in-freezer/
    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/04/17/the-psychology-of-mothers-who-kill-their-children.html
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/16/mother-kill-children-society-_n_850094.html

To hell with MDA, Bloomberg, President Obama and the rest. I am NOT responsible, I will NOT comply!

  13. Wait a minute…. I thought it was the gun owners that were supposed to be the frightened little cowards living in constant fear.

I think the anti gunners have finally completed their trip into bizzaro-world where everything s opposite.

  14. RF, nice acknoedment of professional astroturfers. All agendas with the big money/power are using them to redefine public opinion.

  15. I don’t know anyone; not a single person, who’s afraid of getting shot day to day in any single place. Perhaps I live in la-la land but it seems to me that if you’re afraid of something you might want to take steps to verify if that something even exists before pissing your pants over it.

  16. At Work–gun free zone
    At School–gun free zone
    At Health Clinics–gun free zone
    At Movies–gun free zone
Can’t happen in these places because guns aren’t allowed

  17. The Spanish have no money to spend on tourism anyway. Enjoy your free healthcare and your broke government and stay home.
