Gun show!

“Subscribers of the Florida Times-Union woke up this morning to find an ad atop the front page for a gun show at the Moroccan Shrine Center –directly above the story covering the tragic shooting of two students on a school bus,” firstcoastnews.com reports. “The Times-Union, a First Coast News media partner, has not responded for a request for comment, but the response on social media hasn’t been kind.” For example . . .

Florida lawyer John M. Phillips tweeted “America – where shooting at children won’t even stop a front and center gun show ad.”

You and I might think the juxtaposition connects the dots between the existence of bad people, the need to defend oneself against these people by force of arms (though not arguing to arm underage students) and the opportunity to purchase said arms for self-defense.

The antis are simply appalled. But aren’t they always?

  1. There is nothing nefarious here. Current event meets scheduled advertising in the most ironic way possible.

‘splodey heads need to ‘splode I suppose.

  2. They are appalled because emotions is all they have. In the real world, someone paid to have that sticker put on that edition of the paper a month or so ago and the headline was just coincidence. Would they have been just appalled if the headline showed the leader of ISIS was killed?

    • How about if the headline was about a local traffic cop who blew two heavily armed terrorist killers into the weeds with his handgun, before hundreds of innocents were murdered? Even before the special security team got to meet them?

I bet they would still have been irate. That is what they do.

    • A true conspiracy theororist would suggest that the paper knew the ad was going to be there and chose to make that story front page news…

  3. And if you think that was not a deliberate placement……I read that paper for awhile. Their editors are as anti gun as possible.

    • Yup, I’m kind of wondering if the “coincidence” is entirely coincidental. Or if some “journalist” poohbah didn’t decide the optics were just too good for their purposes.

      • The title of the article should be “Bangers gonna bang.” The shooting happened at a vigil for another kid last month. It is suspected gang related.

  4. “Would people complain if a beer ad were on the same page as an article about a drunk driver killing someone?”
I’m sure there are a quite a few bleeding-hearts who would. Any excuse to get worked-up, and they jump at the chance to stroke their pet-issues.

  5. Florida lawyer John M. Phillips tweeted “America – where shooting at children won’t even stop a front and center gun show ad.”

Nor should it. And maybe the next time some scvmbag lawyer like Phillips rips off his clients, I’ll demand that Johnny boy remove his Yellow Pages ad and his web site.

  6. Do automobile accident stories warrant the removal of all car ads? The lack of logic in todays world infuriates me.

    • Just from the headline, and from the comment by Mr Lawyer, I don’t know that anyone was murdered, just that some shots were fired. Still, I can’t deny that it looks bad. Like I say, I’m not sure that the newspaper guys didn’t realize how bad it looked for the gun show, and decide the opportunity was just too good for some anti-gun agitprop.

  7. Don’t see any problem with the ad. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people – and gun control is nanny state legislation in action.

  8. No different from a car add after a 16 car pileup.

It feels intentional though, screw upsthis big ddon’t just happen. At least I hope they don’t.

  9. And further in the news tonight; The Ministry Of Truth has released that the unfortunate demise of the young students by their attackers would have been prevented if all gun shows were banned. The explanation of this incident is that at gun shows the NRA distributes guns to all event participants as a gift for their attendance. Since the guns are too much of a temptation, except for highly trained personnel of The Ministry Of Love, mass murders automatically occur by those given the guns.

  10. I checked on the Moms Demand Action facebook page. Yeah. They are in an uproar about it. It’s an advertisement. They need to get over themselves. But OMG GUNS!!!! With an article about a shooting! So glad to know that an inanimate object can be so evil. They call us POTG paranoid for having guns, and carrying them to defend ourselves, yet they are the ones that are so worried about someone going on the next rampage. We are armed in case it happens and we might be in a position to stop it. We aren’t thinking that guy on the street corner or the guy across the store that’s packing is planning on pulling out a combination AK-57 uzzie radar lasar triple barrel double scoped heat-seakin shotgun and mowing everyone down. We are ready to step up in case he does, however.

  11. Well I don’t think the gun show attendees are shootin’ up the town. Just a happy coincidence!

    • Did AMTRAK pull any of its advertisements? I’m sure there’s probably a train show going on somewhere.

  12. There was a collection of nincompoops who wanted to make the studio rename The Two Towers when the movie was in prerelease — something about being “sensitive” in the aftermath of the twin towers and 9/11.

Same kind of nincompoopery going on here.

    • We all know that because of the gun show loop hole, that all sorts of NRA types are buying guns by the semi-truck load and distributing them out of the back of vans; and into the inner cities, to be given to poor underprivileged urban youth who were on the verge of turning their lives around.

  13. It’s perfect. The paper is full of stories about unarmed victims and crazed gunmen and here’s an ad to do something personally about it.

  14. to bad so sad! very subtle Liberal agenda at work, an anti-gun Newspaper taking a gun add and following their agenda placed add in strategic position where it does the most damage! what better way too promote an anti-gun sentiment than to link a gun show add with a shooting!
That may have increased gun show attendance because all the gunny’s know that those weapons fired all by themselves and are in cahoots with each other just too make people look bad, Gunny’s are saving lives by putting down this rise of the Machines by attending this show and buying ammo!
