Remember the brouhaha when Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin put gunsights on a map showing where Tea Party voters could/should unseat Democrats? The outcry from the left was intense. The President himself lambasted the right for incendiary rhetoric. And yet here we are, two-and-a-half years later and the President is lambasting Congress for “holding a gun to America’s head” and the anti-gun group Moms Demand Action feel free to put a gunsight on the back of a mother’s head to . . . well the image doesn’t say what. The text accompanying the image calls for “common-sense measures to keep guns out of the hands of abusers.” In other words, disarmament. Which squares perfectly with their overall goal of civilian disarmament. Thin end of the wedge and all that. As this anti-gun agit-prop image demonstrates, there’s no level of emotional manipulation to which they won’t sink to achieve that goal. Sad but true.

  1. I totally agree with Moms Demand Attention. All women should be disarmed, so any blunt object will do the job. [/sarcasm]

  2. I wonder how many women are beaten to death or serious injury by husbands or intimate partners every week. But I guess these women don’t advance their political interests and are therefore (in their mind) unimportant. How about we arm the weaker rather than disarm the stronger?

    • Probably 8 of the 9 were unarmed and #9 had accepted her fate as a mom demand action poster child and sold hers at a “gun buy back” for a $50 gift card.

  3. Hey, Moms Demand That Men Bend Over: I’m not married and I never have hit a woman. Does that mean that I can keep my guns?

    No?

    Didn’t think so.

    • I don’t visit those places, but I would expect they are going to every possible length to get these things hung in women’s shelters, government welfare offices, local food banks, etc. You can bet they are pushing these out everywhere they think they can get them posted and seen by a receptive audience of victims and low information voters. You can also bet that in NONE of those locations will you find an Eddie Eagle poster.

      • I think the MAGgots may have done it with this one. What do you see?
        – The crosshairs
        – The headline (not the smaller text)
        – The balance of the picture (cuz your attention span is filled)

I suspect this may be “Palin Reloaded” for them.

  4. Any message from the “Moms” promotes the greater good of all. Even if it’s a picture of a Mom and her daughter/BFF strolling through the Enchanted Forest while Dad/Hubby (who we can’t see because he’s wearing camo) stalks them both.
The “Moms” only use questionable graphics to grab the attention of the dangerously uninformed and get them straight. Their message isn’t fueled by their hate of freedom and self-sufficiency. Really it isn’t. Not in Fantasy Land.
Besides, to the people who avoid that life, the image of one addict killing another over the last pack of Ramen noodles just doesn’t get the message across. So they fib a little. For the greater good of all.

  5. Moms In Need of Action seem not to give a sh*t about the women who are bludgeoned, strangled, stabbed, and beat dead by their larger and stronger abusive husbands.

And they give negative sh*ts to the women who have protected themselves from such abuse.

    • But that is irrelevant. It doesn’t support their agenda, therefore it must be ignored.

LOL… they’re idiots. Palin’s infamous quote, btw, was stolen from a SNL parody skit. She never uttered the statement she is credited to have said.

  6. The image conveys that the gun (connected to the scope) is bad because it is pointed at a woman (with a frolicking child).

An image could convey that a gun is good by aiming the scope at a scary or violent looking man, a Nazi, a turban wearing man, or other things that cause frightening emotional responses.

On the other hand, of course, not all scary looking men or men with turbans and beards are violently aggressive, and some mothers are terrorists.

  7. XXX number of women bought a gun last week to defend themselves (and their children, if applicable) from their ex-husbands or ex-intimate partners.

I’d like to see that number filled in.

  8. On the positive side for the abusers, this seems to be a tacit endorsement of domestic abuse so long as you do not use a gun.

Moms Demand Action to End Domestic Abuse……..nah, more abused women means more government funding for this project or that study, plus the war on women.

  9. Domestic abuse is very similar to gun control advocacy. Both are about power and control, but you won’t see that on an “Moms” poster.

  10. Apparently “for the children!” is not compelling enough anymore…. :/

I’m also not sure how logical this is. Men are generally bigger, stronger, and meaner (physically) than women. This is why in civilized society so much emphasis is placed on men acting courteously towards women.

This fact flies in the fact of the ad, though. If some terrible man wanted to hurt or kill his significant other, he would not need a gun. Reality is ugly, and is why so many of my female friends know how to shoot.

    • Well 65% of DV cases are reciprocal violence. Women are the non-recip aggressors at 35% while men are the non-recip aggressors at 14.7%. Men acting courteously towards women is based on that men are more disposable to society and are often treated much worse by the legal system.

Avg sentences for crime by gender:

      Female – 18.51 months
      Male – 51.52 months

205 (and growing) wrongly convicted people have been exonerated by DNA evidence since the beginning of the Innocence Project. 204 of the wrongly convicted were men. Most of them were falsely imprisoned for rape.

Men are the overwhelming majority of rape victims. Male rape has been called β€œThe most closely guarded secret of American prisons.” (Weiss and Friar 1974) There are estimated to be over 300,000 male rapes per year in American prisons and jails vs 250,000 cases of male-female rape or attempted rape were recorded by police annually. The reported data covered 65 countries.

Among inmates reporting staff sexual misconduct, ~ 65% reported a female aggressor.

76% of homicide victims are male.

      • Oh trust me I know. I also know that spousal abuse is closer to 50% gender-wise. My point is that a man doesn’t need a gun to kill a woman if he is deranged and really wants to.

  11. Guncite has a very illuminating statistic about this kind of thing:

If you have a gun at home, you are 43 times more likely to use it to kill yourself or a family member than to kill an intruder.

    BUT

If you do not have a gun in the home, you are 99 times more likely to kill yourself or a family member by some other means than you are to kill an intruder.

The takeaway is that domestic violence is a lot more common than home invasion. Having a gun doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in the ability of an abusive man to kill someone who is weaker, smaller, and sleeps in the same bed. It does, however, make a big difference in the family’s ability to fight off a determined and violent criminal.

    • What they really want is to promote the use of restraining orders to deny people their rights.

As we saw just yesterday here on TTAG, this system is already being abused by ignorant liberal zealots in Connecticut and the harpies with bloody shirts want to keep it marketable. Restraining orders can be abused and it should have no impact on your 2A rights as a matter of principle.

Women should avoid possessive psychopaths and learn to protect themselves from assault. The Police cannot save anyone from poor choices. Yet they are actually trying to sell people on the idea that confiscating the firearms of anyone slapped with a restraining order will save lives. These people are fascists and they do not even understand the basic principles the United States of America were founded upon.

      • Yup. For a restraining order, they only need one side of the story… and they only need to say they feared physical harm or death… to have a restraining order issued.

  12. To be fair Sarah Palin is an idiot and she was “targeting” political opponents, along with misquoting “blood of patriots” and all that crap. The uproar of course was over blown, but Dem offices were vandalised. Here they’re talking about women being a victim by gun violence, but it’s as sensational, emotional and still as stupid as the Palin ad.

    • Dem offices were vandalised.

Republican offices were vandalized, too. Wanna blame Palin for that?

You sound like the Tucson sheriff who blamed Palin for the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords.

  13. Moms demand action. we reserve the right to be bitches without any repercutions. How would you like to be married to one of those bitches.

  14. Conservatives let the Communists pull that Saul Alinsky crap every time. We have to punish this punks when the step in it. Just like with Letterdork making comments about Palin’s 14 y.o. daughter. If that had been a conservative sports commentator, he would have left his job. Instead, intern humping letch is still there being a political hack and carrying Barry’s water.

  15. Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.

    (source: http://domesticviolencestatistics.org/domestic-violence-statistics/)

Simple math says that more than 21 women are killed each week by boyfriends or husbands. According to the image, 9 of those are killed by guns. That leaves 12 women each week killed by knives, bats, fists, fishing hooks, irons, tools, etc. Why doesn’t anyone raise a big stink for them?
