Illinois has a new Attorney General, Kwame Raoul. He rose to fame by filling Barack Obama’s former Illinois State Senate seat way back when. And now he’s bringing his equally far-left perspective to his statewide office as the Land of Lincoln’s top prosecutor.
Regarding Chicago’s infamous crime problems he told Illinois News Network:
“We cannot prosecute and incarcerate our way out of the gun violence impacting many communities across the state,” Raoul said.
Except that’s not true.
Florida’s 10-20-Life sentencing enhancement law brought the Sunshine State’s firearm violent crime rate down to historic lows. Under that statute, offenders with a gun in a violent crime get ten extra years of hard time. No probation, no parole, no plea deals. Just hard time. Discharging the gun earns them 20 years extra hard time on top of the sentence for the underlying crime. Injuring someone with gunfire buys ’em 25 years to life.
Illinois, on the other hand, has a revolving door criminal justice system. Offenders like violent, gun-toting home invaders are sentenced to…thirty months probation. This particular home invader’s probation curfew, via electronic home monitoring, was lifted a few months after it began. Two weeks later, cops say he murdered an off-duty Chicago Police Officer and wounded another person.
This (alleged) cop killer’s case isn’t the only home invader armed with a gun who received probation in Cook County, either.
And Prairie State politicians wonder why we have a crime problem.
But Illinois’ Attorney General says we can’t prosecute and incarcerate our way out of the city’s horrendous gun gang violence problem. That’s more than a little reminiscent of another claim that we couldn’t drill our way out of high gasoline prices.
All you have to do to fight these problems is actually want to do something about them. Attorney General Raoul apparently has no stomach for that.

Well they certainly won’t prosecute and incarcerate their way to lower crime rates with prosecutors and judges that owe their jobs to the gangs no matter how hard law enforcement works.

I’d accept their proposition that you can’t prosecute their way out of gun violence if their postion was that they should not be minting more criminals and that being free ain’t easy.
However they take the position that they can’t prosecute the criminals to reduce gun violence, but they can prosecute the law abiding gun owner by passing laws to make them criminals, and that will somehow end gun violence.
He’s one of the leaders of the “alternatives to incarceration” and “bail reform” soft-on-crime attitudes that is sweeping across Illinois thanks to our deep blue political leadership.
I might add that “alternatives to incarceration” pretty much informally only apply to “people of color”. OFWGs, especially conservative/MAGA/gun owners/Republicans still face looonnnnggggg prison terms from Democrat State’s Attorneys.

More like “complicit on crime.” We’ve seen how these sorts of programs consistently end up aiding & abetting criminal activity, while rewarding the politicians with federal fix-it money as well as local kickbacks from the criminal organizations.

Blagovich was hardly a unique scumbag in that world of shytown sleaze, and it always struck me how Obama was singularly ignored during the investigation of Rod’s sale of Obama’s US Senate seat, as though he’d had nothing to do with the transaction & just washed his hands of Illinois after he was anointed. Especially now, given what we’ve learned about how much interference the FBI runs for their friends in these sorts of investigations.
And, don’t forget George Soros gave State’s Attorney Kim Foxx $4mil to her campaign. Tho, she may be on her way out, now.
I can only imagine the frustration of Chicago’s good cops. You go to work every day hoping to do some good in your town and you quickly come to the realization you’re accomplishing nothing. The system is undoing everything you’re trying to do. So then where’s your motivation to go the extra mile – or extra yard, for that matter?

I’m so glad I moved out of Illinois. Born and raised there 18 years. Unfortunately after college I moved to WA in 2002. It was ok at that time and not bad gun rights wise at all. Oh how things have changed. I think both states are having a battle on which can be more Communist. Idaho looks better every day.

Actually, it’s people violence. Various means can be employed to achieve the ends (violence), e.g. knives, hammers, ligatures, tire irons, vehicles, aircraft (remember 9/11?), bare hands, firearms, and on and on ad nauseum.. So, gun violence is really violence accomplished with a gun. Gun violence, in and of itself, is not a thing. Violence, on the other hand, is.

If the law said anyone using a gun to commit a crime will be executed, and the court followed through on the first 2 or 3 gun crimes, it would stop over night! It’s pretty pathetic that these assclowns have no problem killing fetus’, but show so much sympathy to scumbags.
Sadly, like here in Ca, the gun enhancement is the first thing to go in a plea bargain, and the judges are all for it. The gun charge should always be on top and, if they must, plea bargain the other felony. This proves misuse of a firearm and would mean no guns for the convicted, no matter what.

That’s exactly what Illinois needs – The Florida Statute 775.087,[1] known informally as the 10-20-Life law. I’ve been suggesting a “Constitutional Law” change similar to that for necessary incarceration of individuals promoting the gun violence we see day in and day out.

Actually I disagree. I think he has a great point. What is that point you may ask? Well, if you put laws on the books someone has to enforce e.g. prosecute them. That means that no matter what “common sense gun laws” they pass they won’t fix the gun violence problem. That means they shouldn’t even be passed in the first place.
Can’t prosecute and incarcerate out of gun violence? Soooo, since laws merely set a precedent for how to punish crimes, ala prosecution and incarceration, passing anti-gun laws would be ineffective.

Yo, dummy, you make gun crimes a 20-year minimum. And life for the second one. No plea bargaining down to misdemeanors or that kind of bull. Make the time not worth the crime. No manslaughter for gang shootings either, real murder charges.
Tim, there’s usually a reason why they don’t stop the gangs. It usually involves money. Who’s making money off of the gangs? Who’s paying their bond? Who’s letting them back on the street? Who’s taking a cut of the drug deals?
So what would someone get for their 13th arrest for a felon with a gun? That happened about a month ago. In most cases the gun charge gets dropped. Yesterday the bond for a guy that stole $2900 worth of comic books was $10000. For an assult the bond was $1000.
Large groups of kids are going to water tower place and attacking whites and stealing things, no arrests made.

OTOH, he’s partly right.
The overarching problems cannot be solved by prosecution and incarceration alone but aggressive prosecution and incarceration is part of breaking the cycle that currently exists. So, you’re not going to simply prosecute your way out of this but you won’t solve the problem if you refuse to prosecute either. You have to remove the career criminals who are recruiting younger people into a criminal lifestyle. However, if you fail to fix the problems that are creating the career criminals you’ll just end up with new ones.
Could it actually be, as it appears, that Illinois has a fatal aversion to actually punishing armed criminals and criminal violence, or does it just appear that way. One wonders. Might government there have somehow discovered that it’s easier, less troublesome to attack the law abiding than to take significant action against armed crime and criminals? Again, one wonders.

Los Angeles ranked eighty-third, and San Francisco ranked dead last at eighty-seven – the lowest prosecution rate for gun-related crimes.” Keep in mind “Chicago Police Department recovered 7,000 guns per year that had been illegally owned or associated with a crime between 2013 and 2016”
Chicago also cannot house the current 10,000 inmates it has As a result, felons get reduced sentences and are back out on the streets to re-offend the public again. The city isn’t building more jails, instead they are closing some of them. “Chicago’s political leaders choose to close prisons to help shore up the city’s $9 billion of debt.”
Then there are the gangs. “Chicago is home to some 100,000 gang members who reportedly commit seventy-five to eighty percent of the city’s homicides.”

Illinois is pushing some really bad gun laws. I bet if someone is found in violation of those unconstitutional gun laws they would be punished harder than some of the criminals were punished that were in this article. So someone who wants to exercise a right = SUPER DUPER BAD PERSON. Someone who goes and commits a violent crime = not a really bad person.
I guess there is no point in gun control laws, then.
