Must. Work. Faster.
As some of you have probably noticed, the spam filter has been a little overactive of late, and some of your witty comments (and some not-so-witty) have gotten lost in the Twisting Nether. For that, our apologies. I have spent the last hour approving some 300+ comments falsely flagged as spam, and I am about to wipe the spam blacklist clean and start over, so those of you that have had trouble should see an immediate difference. Wiping the blacklist will likely mean . . .

some spam slips through in the coming days, and for that I apologize in advance. If you see canned meat, please send a direct link to the comment (found at the comment’s timestamp) to [email protected], and I’ll police it up. Wiping the blacklist clean will also mean that some of our previously active trolls may briefly show back up and/or be given a second second chance at good behavior. I don’t expect much of this, as most of them quickly tired of bouncing off the filter and took their invective elsewhere, but if they cause trouble, they’ll go on mute again.

The comments are a big part of what makes TTAG so great, and we thank you for it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

  1. I was wonder what happened to a few of my comments. Hit post and they vanished into nothingness. Why that *$#^%#W%# TTAG can just kiss my ()&$#(#($ Low life cock ($&%#((# loser )#$#@^!!!

    • Life might be interesting for a bit if they wiped all of the records and let everyone out of prison, then gathered the appropriate ones back up as they committed new crimes. 😉

  2. I haven’t had a witty comment actually post for a couple of days. Let’s see if this one gets slapped up on the wall of pithy wit.

  3. And to think I was cursing my mac and phone, “wtf. I pressed post comment.” As Homer has been known to say……..”DOH” ……

    • Same here, except I could post from my iPhone and iPad, but neither one of my Macs would post. But if I rebooted my iMac in to Windows I could post again. I was starting to think it was an issue between OS X and WordPress. Luckily Matt seems to have solved the problem.

  4. Thanks for the update on what is going on with the site and the comments. Appreciated and it IS important to know this stuff.

    • If you were, you’re not now. It’s only been within the last one to two weeks that the spam filter has really gone way out of line. Those 300 false flags I spoke of were all from the past 7 days. Usually its only one to two false positives per day. Not 50.

  5. We don’t see enough of you in front of the curtain (so to speak) these days, Matt in FL, but I’m glad to hear you’re still working back stage. FWIW I still miss your Daily Digest articles! But kudos for tackling the comment work. It definitely raises the quality of life here!

  6. Kool.

So what explains all the “item not found” messages I get fairly often when I click on a post link in an email from here?

  7. On an unrelated note, can you guys change the visual theme of the blog so that links in comments are visible as, well, links. As it is, for some reason they use the same black color as regular text, and they’re only underlined when you hover mouse over them. So if something is a link, and you don’t know in advance, it’s pretty much impossible to find out.

    Ideally, just make them blue…
