Housekeeping: Auto-Play A-Go-Go

Attentive members of the Armed Intelligentsia will have noticed the increased ad space here at TTAG central command. Things have gone mostly swimmingly with our new ad partner, Lanista, who’s complimented GunUp nicely so far. That’s not to say there hasn’t been a speed bump or two along the way — as in that floating “assault ad” formerly seen at the bottom of the screen. You win some, you lose some. We also hear tell of occasional auto-play ads (audio and video) that have managed to worm their way into the rotation despite our best efforts. They can be hard to find and weed out, though. So, if you’re hit with one and would like to help, please ID the advertiser and send a screen shot of the offender to [email protected]. Your assistance will, as always, be much appreciated. And, we hope, result in a better, less annoying experience for everyone. Thanks.

  1. I don’t think this counts as an “ad” – but the NRA “stand and fight” video is on auto-play. As of right now it’s at the bottom of the page, so one more post will send it to page 2, but just wanted to let you guys know; it plays as soon as I load the blog.

  2. Decent ad, but I don’t like the fact that the girl shooting the AR near the end doesn’t have a standard (read “high capacity”) mag.

  3. We need a “Mayors for the Unorganized Militia”.

Show up twice a year, take some safety and more intensive CCW style courses along with a few hours of range time, and you’re part of your town’s militia. Mayor signs off on your militia status, you go out and buy lots of otherwise bureaucratically prohibitive stuff like hand grenades and promise to use them in service to the country should Mexico ever attempt an invasion. As the Acronym implies, the mayors have no need of knowing what kit you procure for yourself so long as you show up for training weekend with at least a rifle and sidearm.

    Everybody’s happy.

  4. My suggestion: Show defensive gun users (not actors, the REAL people) saying “I used a gun to save myself and my 2 children from a home intruder”, “I used a gun to scare off a rapist,” I used a gun to stop a mass shooting”, etc. Maybe even throw in a couple “I lost my husband to a repeat felon”. You can throw in some sort of tag line at the end, which includes the “most-agreed-upon” number of DGU’s last year. Ex. Last year, an estimated XXX,XXX people defended themselves and their families from harm, using guns.”

End with a link to a website that provides expanded stories to all those in the video, as well as links to news accounts (for proof, of course.) Also use the site to offer counter-arguments (with proof, of course) to all the anti-gun FUD out there.

Hook them with the emotional stories, and while they are there, present them with a even-keeled, vetted set of facts and logic. Perhaps split the page: one column is the DGU’s story, the other is a debunked myth that relates to that story: I used an AR-15 to defend my home, and look: even the Obama administration admits that an assault weapons ban will do nothing to deter violence.

I’ll even volunteer to build and host the website.

  5. The “Free Online Dating” ad directly above the picture of a rough and tumble looking gentleman named Mr. John Hollister is a bit disconcerting.

    *wink*

(Seriously, I too hope that you’re getting revenue to keep ya’ll going. Thank you for removing the crazy scrolling ad at the bottom but ya’ll do what ya gotta do!)

  6. Bunch of feel good BS. This is how Obama and his ilk get elected. Stop spending energy on distractions. Stop voting for Progressives.

  9. I use Chrome and Adblock, so I don’t even get any ads. However, if there was a “donate” button that let me Paypal you some money, then I would jump on that.
