House Democrats Opt for Quick Action Versus Real Solutions

The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is calling his committee back early from recess. On Sept. 4, the panel is slated to consider three firearm-related bills, a ban on magazines with a capacity over 10 rounds, extreme risk protection orders and a prohibition for people convicted of hate crimes. This will be followed by a hearing on banning so-called “assault weapons” later in the month.

Of course, we know limits on magazine capacity and bans on modern sporting rifles (MSRs) are thinly disguised attempts to restrict the legal market for common and popular products that are safely used every day by law-abiding citizens. The Clinton-era ban on MSRs and standard-capacity magazines did nothing to reduce violent crime in America, so why would we try it again?

We do know, however, that there are Real Solutions that will make our communities safer, like making sure states and federal agencies are actually submitting prohibiting records to the FBI’s background check database. Doing this will make for more intelligent background checks.

But Chairman Nadler isn’t stopping at holding hearings that will no doubt be a gun control circus under the guise of “intelligent, thoughtful discussions” of effective policy responses. He’s also busy attacking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for not joining him and his fellow anti-gun Democrats in jumping on any and all gun control bills put forward.

Someone needs to explain to Rep. Nadler and others that the first bill introduced with the most emotional pull is not always the one that would help address the root causes of criminal activities.

Universal background checks, for example, would not have prevented any of the recent tragedies. They would impose new red tape on law-abiding citizens, not on criminals who have no regard for the law and not on the mentally unstable individuals with no prohibiting record to begin with.

Instead of falling into the trap of taking quick, politically appealing action, we would encourage our members of Congress to look at the root causes of the problems and address the real issues that fuel criminal misuse of firearms and the unauthorized access to guns.

Real Starting Point

Need ideas? One place to start is the FFL Protection Act, introduced as S.1788 by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in the Senate and as H.R.2179 by Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) and Rep. John Rutherford (R-Fla.) in the House.

    • the main reason for Demo-socialists is to take away Americas citizens self protection from them so the socialists can have total control – the best way to combat is mental checkup of everyone who desires ammunitional weapon -all if the demo-socialists must be tried for treason against the constitution!!!

Since the only violence congress seems to care about is mass shootings, let’s get more specific, and see how many mass shootings this would have prevented.

    They know this won’t be signed into law. I think the actual goal here is to be able to say “republicans are okay with these crazy white supremacists being armed!” Because RACISM!! If the hate crime was violent, then the person is already on the “banned list.”

    • Better yet, go look at how Britain defines a hate crime–it has gotten to the point that a hate crime is a thought crime with no need to show any violence at all. Dissing Islam is among the many hate crimes now on the books that can lead to a prison sentence, or painting graffiti on a building that someone else decides is racist or hateful is a hate crime. Hell, marching with the Proud Boys in Portland could be deemed a hate crime–and by that I mean just marching, not doing anything violent at all.

      • Aren’t there already laws in place to minimize crime and control their ability to commit more crime?

        Funny how well those laws stop them. Almost like criminals don’t care about laws.

        Recently, a felon in NJ was in a car wreck and was found with an “arsenal” of weapons and white supremacy books. Good thing felons can’t own guns… They should make crashing your car illegal too. Or racial supremacy advocating and organizing… like the black caucus and NAACP.

          Stop letting these nationalist protest and consider their organization a terrorist one, and treat any pro race organization like it, exactly the same. That includes BLM. Then you deal with ANTIFA, because without their anti-nazi protests, they are exactly what we know them to be: terrorists. A direct threat on the freedom of Americans and their gathering have proven it. But you can’t do it without doing it right. They will try though… and it will only breed more extremists. Pro black = racist, the same as the rest of the pro race groups.

  3. this is just a good reminder that we should write our politicians at least once a quarter to let them know how we feel about these issues. You can darn sure bet the other side is.

I have for some strange reason always assumed that being convicted of a Federal Hate Crime rose to the level of a felony and precluded exclusion of firearm ownership for the convicted individual…. Anyway magazine capacity limits is a non starter and they will need to pick up 14 or 15 seats in the Senate before any kind of ban can be affected, So good luck to Jerry “no nads” Nadler while he wastes more of the peoples time and money with his incessant bullshit and the House continues to accomplish absolutely nothing. Nov.3rd, 2020 is 16 months out, but it will be on us before we know it and this clown and his “crew” will fade back into obscurity where they belong…

    • Perhaps we should seek an ERPO for Nadler, as he is clearly mentally defective. I would pay money to attend a showing of the film of his house being tossed while he and his wife and kids are held at gunpoint at 3 AM.

    • I’m sure John Kasich approves. What a joke that guy turned out to be. He still thinks he’ll be president someday. He hasn’t even ruled out running in 2020. Rich democrats will be lining up to fund any third party candidate that might take votes from Trump.

    How will this make our communities safer? Most guns are stolen or made. Seriously. Would like to understand how that helps? I was just talking to someone about how it doesn’t really effect anyone but felons who actually do reform themselves because then they are following the law anyway.

    Background checks do nothing.

  7. I know of a quick and real solution: get rid of gun free zone laws. They are illogical and have been shown to be statistically not helpful.

    • If you’re in my neighborhood there’s no need to, in an emergency I can supply most everyone in the area. Although I am partial to 20-rd mags, probably half my stash. They’re all I had in Vietnam, kinda got used to them, gun doesn’t feel quite right with 30.

  9. If you’re going to have “hate crimes” then go ahead and add political bias to the list. The amount of hate Trump supporters and really anyone right of center are receiving is unprecedented, at least in my lifetime.

  10. Everything they propose fails to go after the root cause of the problem. That is, we have an extremely small part of the population that wants to, and actively plans to, kill as many people as possible. None of the laws they want to pass target the problems with those people.

    Many people on the gun rights side say it’s just a mental health problem. For some of the mass murders I would say that is indeed the case, but I don’t think it’s the case for all of them. I would liken their behavior more like terrorists from GWOT. They fight for an idea. We may think they are crazy for fighting for that idea, but they, and many of their supporters do not think so. When we have returned prisoners from GITMO, many of them often returned to fighting. That’s the problem with true believers. For those of us in semi-free countries, we can see exactly what ideas they were killing for from the “manifestos” they posted before they performed their actions.

    If we don’t go after the conditions that create these kinds of people, we are just pissing in the wind. We can’t ban our way to safety. That just creates second and third order effects that the people who wrote the legislation absolutely ignore, or never even think about.

    • What you’re suggesting requires lots of thought and hard work! That automatically precludes congress or any dem for that matter.

    • How many of these mass killers are supporting a family or have a good relationship with their parents? Nothing to live for, loose morals, they don’t value their own life, full of hate for others. Part of the problem, in my opinion, when you’re talking about the non-jihadi killers, is the breakdown of the family, no personal responsibility, and no religion or morals. They can’t admit this because democrats hate the family, personal responsibility and Christian and Jewish religion.

  12. The Democrats and in particular Nadler have always been about making noise and pointing fingers at the other guy and never accepting responsibility for their inaction. Any thing can be and is turned into a crisis and used to push their agenda even though it is not well thought out, supportable, sustainable, workable or addressing the needs of the problem.
    But at least they will stand tall and say they have accomplished something and many will believe them.

They are using the Marx and Alenskey Playbooks and incrementally taking our Bill of Rights apart. The 2nd Amendment is the Keystone because it gives us the ability to defend the other rights. But the enemy within Bolsheviks look at the Bill of Rights as a stumbling block, Obama once said so. It prevents them from ruling the nation as they would like to. Ruling the nation??? Yes, the servants have forgotten their place and now want to be tyrants. No more gun control!!!! We are not serfs subject to a ruling aristocracy we are the government. Time to remind the servants. These people want a Democrat Soviet Socialist Union of America. Oh and just what are they doing canvasing for donations in Guatemala, Venezuela and Mexico????

    • Agree wholeheartedly, but you forgot to mention the first two tenets of socialism/communism, first you need to dumb down the populace, next create a giant welfare state to make them dependent on the government, THEN you you disarm them!

It’s so screwed up that assclowns like him, Cummings and the like can stay in power for so long (term limits) while accomplishing nothing but getting rich !? I wonder if Trump was suddenly all for gun control if the Democrats would change thier minds?? Just saying they resist everything else he does. It’s not something I want to test for real but, they wouldn’t suprise me if they were 2nd Am advocating if Trump started in on our rights. All jokes aside – I have never been as worried about our 2nd Amendment rights as I am right now! God Please Bless the United States Of America! We are a country that needs God more than ever before!!

    GTF off ur asses and do something…reclaim ur lost balls and stand up and get to work and stop leaving it up to others cuz my back and shoulders broke down long ago….and after the military beat the crap out of me and left me disabled..i have done all i can do for my Country with boots on the ground….so its up to U ALL able bodied people to carry on the fight!

  19. You can’t convince Nadler of anything. He is an egomaniac trying to make a name for himself anyway he can. From his constant calls for Trump’s impeachment and anti-Trump rhetoric, to his calls for any and all of the strictest gun confiscation measures, this lunatic needs to be stripped of his powers. He is the epitome of a tyrant. He’s also a fool.

  20. They base their “solutions” more on how well the one-liners do in public opinion polls. NOT if the solutions are actually effective or not.
