  1. It’s better to put a cheap Chinese knock-off Red Dot, on such an inexpensive, $260(?) rifle. But this still America. You are free to choose. I have the 45 pistol. A great gun.

      • Which is crazier.
Invisible man theory or believing it all just happened by a totally random accident and we make space ships because two amoebas bumped into each other at precisely the right time and the giant ball of dirt you stand on is perfectly in balance with a flaming ball of nuclear fusion at JUUUUUUST the right distance to keep your fragile extremely temperature sensitive butt alive?

Either that or you believe in nothing which is pretty much beneath every belief or theory.

        Asking for a friend.

      • those with faith have to somehow account for unnecessary human suffering.
atheists have to account for everything else.

  2. “The incredibly popular all American-made Hi-Point Carbines are used by …. law enforcement worldwide in 9mm, 40 S&W, .45ACP and 10MM.”

How about some examples of their worldwide usage?

      • Evidence is the only thing I ever used one for. Worked with many agencies across jurisdictional lines. Federal, state and local. If anyone had shown up with a Hi-Point as a duty weapon he would been laughed at. Challenge anyone to name one agency that has Hi-Point on their approved weapons list. If there is one, their firearms guy should be fired.

        • My guess would be they probably donated a couple carbines here and there to the local Sheriff’s department near their factory. Unlike some of the ring of fire manufacturer’s, Tom Deeb was a staunch 2A guy, and if I remember right he had friends and contacts in law enforcement too. Don’t quote me on that though. Second hand info on the internet is as trustworthy as sushi from a convenience store.

  3. “Lifetime warranted Hi-Point carbines can match or exceed the accuracy, reliability, and durability of more expensive carbines in the same caliber.”

“can”…gotta have an easy way out in there somewhere.

  4. Could be good home defense option for many people. I’d personally rather have $400 (MSRP) worth of shotgun for that application, but each to their own.

  5. I have a 45 carbine. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Hundreds of rounds fired. No failures period. It’s heavy, it’s ugly. It is what it is. I have a cheap red dot on it, it works fine. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Meanwhile STFU if you no nothing about it.

    • TSBHOA.P.JR: Not trying to go against yer comment but I do have a Braz CBC nylon ’66 and it shoots flawlessly, being always very precise… Do you happen to have one and not satisfied with it, I presume?

    • tsbhoa, the Remington Nylon 66 is actually a pretty good .22 auto rifle. I wouldn’t put expensive optics on it, but it, like a lot of firearms has a cult following. I don’t believe Hi-Point has one though.

  6. HIpoint 995 owner here, never had a failure. many rounds over the years. Hits 100 yard 12″ gongs with the irons all day long. Yeah, I know that’s not a testament to terrific accuracy but for home defense for someone on a budget, more than ample at 20′. ALSO, the Redball 2- round mags have been flawless.

    • 995 and c9 owner here. Many failures, no idea how many but I would say 95% of them are magazine related. Have to make sure the bullets aren’t tilting forward when loading magazines and you’ll avoid most of them.

I got the floor model so no telling where it happened, but the front sight was canted too far. I fixed it and it is acceptable in terms of accuracy.

I would not buy again and certainly would not use as my primary defensive weapon but it’s a cheap way to get into the hobby.

      • Send us an email at [email protected] so we can help you out with the issues your having! Especially being it was floor model who knows what abuse it could have taken in the store. We are happy to help and make sure you are happy with the performance.

  7. I don’t know. The thing I thought that was useful about them was the fact that a person could get a functional pistol caliber carbine for about the same price as some semi-auto 22’s.
If I was going to buy one, I’d just get the most basic, no frills added version.

  8. I actually laughed out loud when I read the title. I internally thought “ Will the price only just double or be more like 300%?” I’m actually surprised the price only went up by $100 on average. Considering it’s a Crimson trace I would expect the 995 price to double to $600.

And no, I’m not a fan of Crimson trace.

  9. “Hi-Point Firearms is known for tough, reliable, accurate, affordable firearms. ”

I respect hi-point for not trying to describe their products as the highest quality or best craftsmanship. So many budget companies in other arenas do as if they are fooling anyone. Hi-point knows their strengths and their market and don’t lie about it.

  10. What is the effective range of a 10mm fired from a High-point? I use a 50 foot gong target with a 50 yard backboard with paper targets. I have a .32 Colt Detective Special with .32 longs and they don’t reach the paper targets. They will clang the gongs. Hope 10 mm is better. Searching for .32 magnum.

  11. have the carbine in 45 and 9mm also the pistol in 45 9mm and 380 great guns. have not had a problem with any of them. there heavy there ugly and the price is right for some one on a budget

  12. “ Hi-Point’s .45 ACP and 10MM carbines are legal for big game hunting in some states and coupled with this sight will make for an excellent thicket or forested country rapid reaction reduced range game hunting combination.” Worst run on sentence in ages. That’s tough to swallow and between me and my girl, we can swallow just about anything.

  13. I have a Hi-Point 10mm carbine, and I put a Bushnell red dot on it. It’s reliable and surprisingly accurate and, in my opinion, a good value for the money.

  14. Crimson Trace has become mediocre at best, at least the Hi Point will function as intended. Beware of mall ninjas and there limited real life experience.

  15. Best part about cheap guns is you don’t have much money in them so your expectations are lower. If it goes bang and doesn’t break that’s about all you need. Refined triggers, tack driver accuracy, high resale, prestige of ownership, etc are for the expensive machines.

  16. I love your site and have for years, but the antiGun and antiAmerican comment trolls in your comment section are just annoying. You’ve got to weed out those troublemakers. Otherwise, an awesome site offering exceptional reporting and information.

  17. I WOULD get a 10mm Hipoint carbine. Another SHTF weapon is a good thing. I’d add a light…no ct ever.

  18. I have own Hi Points as a personal carry firearm of and on for over 30+ years. The important issue for me am I able to hit what I am aiming at and can I put it down. Does Hi Point fill that bill yes it does, If I need something with longer range then my Russian Mausan Naguant 7.62x54r with a 10mmx40mm Graduated Scale Scope fills that space, but I do not shoot for record or distance, I shoot to survive and either of these weapons will enable me to do that.
