How about enforcing the laws you already have on the books? I know it’s kooky, but it just might be crazy enough to work. Mike Bloomberg, MAIG maestro and perpetual anti-gun rights crusader, made bales of hay from the fatal shooting of NYPD officer Peter Figoski. Not that it takes much for hizzoner to hop up on his well worn screw-the-constitution soapbox. But a dead cop is just the kind of never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste opportunity Mayor Mike just can’t let pass by. It’s positively Pavlovian. Except now that a little time has passed and some of the facts of the case have been uncovered, a few inconvenient truths about the alleged shooter, Lamont Pride (above, center), have come to light…

Pride’s what’s commonly known as a serial offender. He’s been in trouble with the law repeatedly in NYC and North Carolina. And that includes shooting a guy in a parking lot. In fact, he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in the Tarheel State. But as nydailynews.com reports, none of that seemed to impress New York judges Evelyn Laporte or Shari Lynn Michels:

In the weeks leading up to Pride’s deadly encounter with Police Officer Peter Figoski, one Brooklyn judge let him walk knowing there was an active warrant for his arrest on shooting charges in North Carolina.

Two weeks later, Pride didn’t show up for court, but a second Brooklyn judge put an arrest warrant on hold to give his lawyer a chance to track him down.

That didn’t happen, and police say Pride shot Figoski early Monday.

Now the bonfire of recriminations is in full blaze. And that’s probably as it should be. But that won’t stop Mayor Mike, as predictably as the sun rises in the east, from waiving the bloody shirt and claiming that insufficient gun laws were the real reason one of his footsoldiers is dead.

There’s just one problem: even a lot of gun-fearing New Yorkers are going to read the account and realize that sometimes more laws really aren’t the solution. Actually enforcing the laws that are already on the books goes a long way toward drastically reducing all kinds of crimes, those that involve guns included. I’m sure Officer Figoski’s family will look forward to a full explanation of exactly why Lamont Pride wasn’t in a cell on Riker’s Island instead of putting a bullet into their son, husband and father.

  1. Better yet – let’s look to see what relationship Mad Mike has with these fine upstanding judges. let’s see if he appointed them, supported their re-election campaigns or even held them up as examples of New York’s judicial bedrock. Let’s help Mad Mike realize Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth.

  2. This incident actually shows why citizens need to be armed. You never know when some “compassionate” judge will leave a violent repeat offender on the street.

  3. How about a law making judges, parole boards, and governors who pardon criminals PERSONALLY liable for any murders committed by repeat offenders they have released? Maybe their compassion for criminals would decrease if it cost them some of their own money, instead of costing “the public” their lives/health/safety.

  4. Now you know why it’s called the “criminal justice system.” There’s no justice, and the way the system works is criminal.

  5. Not at all surprising. Also not surprising that we haven’t seen a peep about this on any of the anti-gun blogs such as MikeB302000’s or Japete’s. This is an inconvenient fact about crime that they would just as soon ignore.

  6. Too bad someone didn’t take Pride down before, I bet there were opportunities wasted. We can take solace in Pride getting free legal defense, followed by all the sympathy the system can muster, parole, and a healthy diet and weights in the joint while he is there.

    • I am hoping he gets his salad tossed in rikers. Cops don’t play out there and frankly, somebody looking for a little more time in the day room may decide to shank him just for the street cred.

  7. His Horror hasn’t a clue. His myopic view of the world is he’s right and everyone else is wrong. I have said it before CRIMINALS DON’T AND WON’T ABIDE by the laws. In Pride’s case:

    1) Convicted criminal in possession of a firearm.
    2) Laws on the books against robbery (he was robbing somebody).
    3) Shooting is a crime especially during the committing of the afore-mentioned #2.
    4) The use of a firearm to commit a crime.
    5) GO BACK TO #1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My condolences to Figoski’s family.
As for His Horror he needs to remove the binders and yank his head out of his @$$. This particular incedent should never have happened and would not have if this repeat offender had never been freed.

  8. Do you think Mr. Pride dealt with all the red tape that NY has in place to prevent criminals from getting their hands on a firearm? Hell no! Meanwhile the honest and law abiding who don’t have the time or money to pursue “legal” ownership, are left to be victimized by the nefarious few. Mayor Bloomers….Wake The F Up!

  9. “How about enforcing the laws you already have on the books?”

    NO.

How about not enforcing them at all??

How about taking this opportunity to point out that:

*They want ALL access to guns illegal
*”Illegal guns” are not a bad thing
*Bloomberg is a freaking menace to the whole country and thinks he’s the law unto himself

  10. I could not of said it better the Mayor knows the truth but wants to plain the gun laws instead of the criminal justice system that places Blago in jail for 14 years and not Spitzer but allows the likes of Pride to remain free to kill Cops.

The Judge should be removed from the bench along with Mayor Mike for lying this is what you get when he is allowed to buy a third term
