The breakopen over-under derringer style “tactical pocket pistol” announced by Heizer Defense will apparently be made in a variety of flavors, potentially increasing its appeal to, well, someone. Not only will shooters be able to get the DoubleTap chambered in ulna-shattering .45 ACP, but for those interested in more accurate second shots (you know…double taps), you’ll also be able to get the skinny pistol in 9mm. Plus, the gun will be sold in a more (apparently) budget-minded aluminum construction in addition to the originally announced 14 oz. titanium version. Uh oh. There’s a nice little niche market for an ultra-exclusive (read: expensive) titanium derringer in .45, by a company that offers Wilson Combat caliber personal service.
By offering a less expensive alternative, Heizer just shot themselves in the foot.

Just curious: How does the user make it switch the 2nd shot to the other barrel?
If it’s anything like the Bond Arms derringers the firing pins just alternate on each trigger pull.

this is not a bad concept for a deep concealment gun, at least in 45. 230 gr at 700fps is an attention getter. clearly your life would have to be threatened before you would use it.
To use that godawful phrase that’s making the rounds: why are people hating on this? It looks like an innovative and useful handgun. If it actually works and they can maintain sanity on price then they’ll have a winner. I know I want one.
Offer one in S&W 500 or GTFO.

Aside from the fact that my already permanently injured wrists would rebel against me after my rehabilitation from firing this device…I find that if it is as light, small and maintenance free as they make it out to be (titanium doesn’t need oil to not corrode) then it would be excellent as a last ditch weapon. The extra rounds in the grip sell it as something unique and tacticool if not quite tactically required versus the weight increase but oh well. Fact is reloading a derringer sounds like the worst of worst scenarios anyway but that’s why we bought it, right? Assuming both hands still are functioning after firing it, that is…

I have an American Derringer in 45 acp that weighs 15oz, not that bad to shoot. Certainly well within the realm of what a competant pistol shooter can handle. Kind of like a high end Liberator.

One thing I just found is that the double tap seems to take a LOT of “Inspiration” from this pistol.
