The HK USC (semi auto version of the UMP) is coming back to the US market in very limited numbers. With an MSRP of $1500 it’s not exactly a cheap gun but in the HK world the USC is a pretty good deal.
HK has one on display at NRA show. I got to check it out for a few minutes. It is surprisingly light weight, only 2.72 Kg that’s 5.9 pounds in American.
The direct blowback .45 carbine comes with a 10 round magazine, and no threaded barrel. I was surprised how plasticy it felt. I know its a polymer gun but a lot of polymer guns don’t feel like plastic. I would imagine that the USC sells out fairly quickly when they are available later this year. Maybe HK doesn’t hate us after all.
Threaded barrel seems like an obvious feature to include. added mfg cost is about 11 cents and additional MSRP has gotta be at least $11.
The only value of this gun is to do a USC to UMP conversion.

Up here in Canada, MP5s are prohib, but the USC/UMP is non-restricted. Makes for a nice plinker, and another PCC alternative for shooters up here.
May as well have 5 rounds of .45 than 5 rounds of 9×19 anyway.

This gun could be so great; thread the barrel, folding stock, mags that actually hold a few rounds…but nope, still the same gun from the ban years.
To be fair, that’s more due to German and American export and import laws and their interplay than any decision on H&K’s part. That being said, I agree that it’s a shame that it’s only coming in as a compliant gun.
You either forgot about, or don’t know about, the 1989 assault rifle import ban signed and promoted by president George “no new gun laws” Bush the 1st (who voted for Hillary Clinton if you didn’t know). This gun is made in Germany and imported so this is the ONLY way it can be imported. If HK would make it here, then that would be another story. The 1994 domestic assault weapons ban expired in 2004, the import assault rifle ban did not.

Ugh!!! So much potential wasted!!! Somebody please start makin an excitin AFFORDABLE pistol caliber carbine. Sure the thompsons are awesome even though they’re just semi autos and non sbrs and super expensive but they are at least a little exciting.
I’d love to see a PCC version MP40, PPSH, or really anything other than a PCC AR, neutered UMP, Hi Point, or Ruger.

Scorpion is less than an Auto Ordnance Tommy gun, shockingly (well at least it is to me) the Sig costs more. Still both aren’t what I’d term affordable for what they are YMMV. For that same let’s say $900 for the Scorpion I can get a good number of full size semi automatic rifles that shoot actual rifle calibers and fill a need in my arsenal.
Aero is a neat little gun but I can never find it in stock anywhere long enough to order it on payday.
Kel Tec- love their oddball stuff but that’s a hard pass from me. lovely design but all the reliability of those diesel engines GM based off the Olds 350.

Tons of experience with the MP-5. Not so much with the UMP. First saw one when working with the Charlotte, NC SWAT team at Katrina. Yawn. Boring weapon.
Well, they designed it to be a cheaper, more “conventional” replacement for the MP5, but also to reliably use .40 and .45 when a lot of American cops and American spec ops units (respectively) were enamored with those rounds (unlike the MP5/10 and MP5/40 which cracked after long-term use).
The street price will prolly be a few bills lower than MSRP.
The UMP is a good gun, so I’d take one of these to SBR/thread/slap an Osprey on for sure.
That would be awesome without the excessively long barrel and non folding stock. Make it a pistol with a short threaded barrel and folding “brace” and watch how quickly they would sell.

Yup. Anyone who wants this gun (as opposed to a cheaper but still excellent carbine) wants it for the appeal of basically having a UMP. Might as well embrace it, and a pistol is the best way to do that.

I had a 1st gen USC(light grey), it was a fun Carbine. I sold it for more than I bought it for when HK stopped selling them here. I should of held on to it.
Same here really liked mine. Had to sell mine too they hold their value.
You can get 20 round mags from promag though they can be hit or miss.

It is possible, it is not particularly simple. The stock is integral to the lower. For those used to AR “gunsmithing”, it is quite a bit more involved. Google “USC to UMP conversion”, and you’ll find three major ways of doing it, each with similar levels of functionality, but different levels of finish.
Done right, the end result is exceptional, functionally identical and cosmetically extremely similar to the UMP. It’s one of my favorite guns of all time. It shoots about 4 inch groups at a hundred yards and if there is an upper limit to its reliability, I haven’t found it yet. I routinely go 2,000 rounds at at a time through mine, and all suppressed.

I do like the USC to UMP conversion, though definitely not a cheap gun. You need a stock block or otherwise fuse/plastic weld a UMP receiver stub. HK has been importing a lot of ban compliant/California models in the pistol side of things, USP experts, gray model, elites, I wonder if these USC guns are compliant with any states that would otherwise ban via AWB? With the old two feature or national bans they could be compliant, but a lot of slave states have gone more restrictive and I don’t think you could get a USC in California, New York, Conn, etc.
I don’t have a problem with HK selling this, though they are basically just importing a limited number of the same old gun, not a new gun or configuration. I know Michael’s Machines previously was able to import some unmarked USC receivers from HK as “stripped receiver/firearms” and thus build pistols from them. It would seem HK USA could likely do the same, slap braces on them, etc.
My real question is… What of the HK USA factory in Georgia? Maybe restarting some mr556a1 builds but I don’t think they built the factory for that alone. I thought they declared it would be for the civilian market, but I haven’t seen them using it for any products yet, vp9 is still all German, sp5k, USC. Perhaps they ended up doing csass and various Marine Corp 416/m27 variants, but I am still expecting something distinctly USA.
Hera arms makes bolt on parts to use AR or ACR stock. I tested promag 15 an 20 rounders with no issues. Save yourself money folks.
They are selling cheaper than MSRP.
