Ms. Jaques recently took on the above Tweet from Guns Down America — “We need to go after guns themselves” — calling for gun confiscation from parents.

They can ask all they want. Doesn’t mean I have to answer. But it may mean that I remind the doctor that I’m the customer who may take my business to a less-nosy physician.
People like that having the opinion that pediatricians should ask about guns in the house are why I’d lie like crazy or tell them it’s none of their god damn business.
If my kids pediatrician asked me about guns we’d pack up and leave right then and there. And I’d kindly inform them that it would be in my best interest not to bill me for the visit.
I got asked about this by the pediatrician, and I don’t get what step 2 is. There is no follow up, or, “well you shouldnt,” or anything. Just, “oh. Keep them safe.”
What do they think they gain by starting this “dialog,” are they hoping you will feel embarrassed?
The second time, the pediatrician asked, and then started telling me about safe storage. I asked her if she owned any guns. She said no, and I asked her if she knew the 4 rules of gun safety. After she acknowledged that she didn’t, I told her that I come here for your medical knowledge, not guns. She dropped the whole thing.
They don’t ask me, they just say make sure your guns are locked up safe.

I always just ask the MD did he pitch or catch during anal sex. That tends to close the question and answer period down quickly.

From a VERY cold and statistical perspective, how many of those Roe v Wade babies would be voting Democrat by now? Or more likely sucking up tax dollars in State and federal prisons?
My 1yr old’s pediatrician asked if we had guns in our household on our first visit and my wife and I both said no at the exact same time, and then for the next four visits I wore Article 15 gun related t-shirts. On his third visit I dressed him a “come and take it” onesie just to further rub salt in the wound and aggravate her NorCal sensibilities.
She never said a word, never asked again…..
All across America parents are killing their kids with the food they serve them. How about tackling that baby killing, society costing behavior? The effects of a shitty diet cost society multitudes more than guns or this phenomenon of “gun violence.”
Save millions in life and treasure. Then you nitpick over the few thousand outliers.

Every time someone says that guns should all be confiscated I reply, “How?”
Occasionally, they press the issue so I make it a bit more personal: “How do you propose to take mine?”

Until guns themselves decide to lay down in easy reach of a child, which they can’t because they are INANIMATE objects, thus the blame, derision, and anger of gun controlly’s should be focused on PARENTS WHO LEAVE GUNS AROUND CHILDREN. These A-holes are the reason for their kids dying, and they are somehow absolved of guilt by gun control monkey’s as if the gun itself has free will. They are statist, gun confiscators who if the political pendulum swings to the left will march on triumphant to a socialist state that further rides its way up our collective sphincters.
If you own a gun, great job, I support you. If you own a gun and you do NOT teach your children the 4 laws of gun safety, AND you leave your firearm in a place they can reach it, I DO NOT CONSIDER YOU A MEMBER OF THE GUN COMMUNITY, and I will never support you. If my son’s doctor asked about guns in the home, my response would be “I fail to see the relevancy of the question”.
Let’s see, our pediatrician talked about when we should “get our child’s attention”, for instance, he believed a spanking was in order in dangerous situations, such as about to run into the street. He also suggested keeping syrup of Ipecac in the house for accidental poisonings. Talked about matches, too. But, didn’t mention guns.
There’s a line in the old “Thin Man” movies, where Myrna Loy asked William Powell asked how he knew the gun was unloaded. He replied he removed the bullets from the revolver when the baby started teething on it. Funny, guns don’t shoot when they don’t have bullets.

Blanks have killed more than a few folks who thought they were harmless.
The flash charge and its expanding gasses can and have put holes in skulls, holes in hearts, etc…

A blank round is by definition ammunition. Removing the source of ammunition removes any ability of any firearm to fire.
He didn’t say anything about ammunition. He said bullets. Blanks don’t have bullets.
@Rick .. Blanks don’t have Slugs. The Blank would be ammo, but one might argue whether or not a blank is a bullet.

To call a cartridge (whether or not it includes a projectile) a “bullet” is wholly 100% incorrect. This situation is somewhat akin to calling a magazine a “clip”, but more severely incorrect IMO.
I cast bullets by pouring molten lead into a mould and allowing it to solidify. Then I load those solid lead bullets into casings along with powder and primers to make loaded cartridges. The bullet is just the projectile, not the whole cartridge. When you dodge a bullet you avoid the projectile, not the casing, powder, primer, and projectile together.
“Slug” generally refers to very large bullets, mostly when intended to be fired from a smooth bore (e.g. muzzleloader) or shotgun (smooth or rifled). Pistol bullets are sometimes called “pills”, and rifle bullets tend to just be called “bullets” (or occasionally “projectiles”). Cartridges can be called “round” or “ammunition”…but to call them “bullet” is like calling a bumper a “car”.
A blank is a cartridge without a bullet.
Of course, this is all just a nomenclature thing; we all know what EJQ meant, but hey, we’re gun folks…we bicker over little stuff like “clip” and “bullet”. Why not? The more time we spend on this, the less time we have to shoot so the less money we spend on ammo!
But on a more serious note, words have meanings and using the wrong word can result in danger. If the prop guy who doesn’t know that blanks can injure or kill tells the actor “relax, there are no bullets in the gun” and they do a scene with a contact shot, someone’s gonna get hurt or killed. Actually, now I’m curious how contact shots are done since they can’t do them with blanks like they do for other distances.
So, lemme get this straight – They want *children* stealing guns from their parents?
Aren’t there laws against reckless endangerment of children? And aren’t those that encourage that guilty of ‘Causing a Child to Commit an Act of Delinquency’ (or similar)?

If the Doctor ask my kids about my guns, they would say it really is non of your business. They will be mine in 15 years, so butt out!
My doctor asked me if i had guns in the house. I gave him a look, apperently he caught on.
However when i was leaving i asked for my medical records. Have never been back to that doctor…. my new doctor has never asked, and i dont tell.
As far as removing guns from my home, come and try it.
If any of my doctors tried to lecture me about guns, I’d simply suggest that first they must listen to my advice about some improvements to their surgical techniques. I know as much about surgery as they know about guns, so why not? Of course, I would bill them for my time.
And I’m pretty sure that doctors kill more innocent Americans in a year than gangsters kill in decades.
No doubt. the medical/pharmaceutical yearly death toll varies by different sources, but the numbers are staggering, in the 250k-400k range depending on the source. The ‘cute’ responses some people post to the Dr’s questions are ridiculous. Ignore the question the 1st time, if he/she insists on asking again, redirect and ask him/her what the clinical relevance the question has, and to please stop wasting your time.
I’ve made the suggestion they’re better off asking if there’s anyone that’s been to jail before… I’ve been told that parents “on vacation” are pretty common.
What about knives; the only way to prevent a stabbing is to remove all sharp knives.
What is it they say about people who do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result? If they are so determined to reduce the number of people killed by guns, maybe a different approach is needed. Mental health reform? Gun safety education? Improved education systems in urban areas?
They don’t care about saving lives. They just want to confiscate guns.
My doctor has more guns than anyone I know. Her husband has even more.
If my Doctor was to ask me that question, not only would he not get an answer, but it would be the last time he’d see me as my Doctor. It’s none of their business, and it’s just that simple!
Makes perfect sense, at least coming from a profession that demands you prophylacticly treat ALL newborns for sexually transmitted diseases and IV drug use.
Jen, Guns are not the problem and haven’t been the problem!!! The problem is Mental Health this is what has been responsible for so many, many deaths from before Columbine to present. Ever since a Democratic Congress in the 60’s tried to balance a budget on the backs of the mentally ill by cancelling funds to mental institutions! Of course maybe you are one of these, that is of course if you believe an inaminate object can hurt you. It takes a person devoid of caring about their fellow human beings to do what has been done to their fellow Human Beings!

I honestly wouldn’t be offended if my pediatrician asked if I own a gun if they were walking through a list that includes things like, “Is there a gate around your pool, do you keep your chemicals locked up, can you kids reach the kitchen knives, etc.?” I don’t have a problem with a doctor reminding me to avoid some common hazards, guns included. But it would not be well received if they got on their soap box or tried to proselytize. If that were the case, I’d drown them in sarcasm. “Oh really? You don’t say? Should I let homeless people sleep in the same bed as my kids? What about getting a pet lion? Should I not let them watch porn?” 😐
On a questionnaire for a health screening I do every year it says, “Is there A gun in your house?” I always answer no because there definitely isn’t just A gun in my house.
