Gunman Opens Fire on Federal Courthouse in Dallas

Earlier today in downtown Dallas, Texas, a 22-year-old man in a balaclava and “combat gear” opened fire at the outside of a federal courthouse. It wasn’t long before good guys with guns returned fire and ended up killing the gunman. Thankfully this happened before any innocents or officers were injured. From the sounds of it, the gunman wasn’t anywhere near out of ammo and may have had an explosive device in his vehicle . . .

According to Dallas News:

Dallas police detonated a suspicious device about 10:40 a.m. that was found in the 2003 Nissan Altima Clyde had driven to the courthouse. The blast was strong enough to shake sapling trees blocks away.

DeSarno would not confirm Monday afternoon whether law enforcement found explosives inside the car.

So “a suspicious device” was detonated by police but was that device itself dangerous in any way? Unknown at this time.

What we do know from photos and descriptions is that the gunman was carrying an AR15 and at least 150 rounds of ammunition if we’re to assume the magazines that were on him were loaded.

Details will continue coming to light and, no doubt, changing as we find out more. And it sure sounds like they’ve put enough people on the case. Also from the Dallas News article:

…more than 200 FBI agents and other law enforcement are investigating the shooting. Investigators expect they will have multiple videos from several angles to watch as they determine what happened.

Sure enough, in 2019 videos are all but guaranteed. Here are just a couple of the myriad videos we can expect to see over the next few days:

More to come as updates and confirmed information is released.

Sadly there’s no save button to restore your previous position.

We really need some research to find out what actually is the cause for these folks to start shooing places up. Is it video games? Drugs prescribed for boys to make them more manageable? Too much tv showing such losers the fact that they’ll never be a success with women, wear nice clothes or have nice houses (unless they buckle down and work. No instant winners)

It’s not guns that are responsible. I believe it’s something to do with the public school system. Haven’t heard of a home schooler doing this or a catholic school grad.

This is the new version of suicide by cop. Same as the other nut case from a week ago. But instead of being a second page story it’s front page news if they take a few with them.

        1. avatar User1 says:

A lot of white Americans are on drugs. It’s very common.

        2. avatar Knute(ken) says:

And almost all of the psychoactive prescription drugs that so many are on have murderous and/or suicidal thoughts listed as a side effect. Do you suppose that might have a connection to the larger than normal number of such incidents now? Or is it all just one big coincidence?

      3. avatar User1 says:

This attack doesn’t appear to be about shooting innocent people. He went after the government. The last shooting like that in Texas was done by a former military man who was tired of the corrupt Texas government.

The shooter dressed like a militant/cop, he wore a mask too. He didn’t have a great plan nor did he buy body armor. He tried to shoot through the entrance of the government building, but the entrance is designed to stop such attacks, he then tried to escape.

He likely recently decided to attack the government and bought an AR-15. He didn’t seem well prepared to take on the police.

        1. avatar User1 says:

Hard armor that is, for rifle protection.

        2. avatar billy-bob says:

ABC said he had an “assault rifle and bullet proof vest”. Did they lie? Again? Still?

        3. avatar User1 says:

          @billy-bob

It looked like he had an AR-15 with a red dot, some old soft body armor and a belt with a bunch of AR mags.

He was ready to take on the local police with their pistols. He wasn’t ready to take on rifles and the feds.

        4. avatar JohnQ says:

He had an old school (think late 80s to mid early 00s) flack jacket. It’s not projectile rated and meant for shrapnel protection. It CAN stop the smaller pistol calibers, but after .308/9mm Kurtz, it’s no more than a shitty sweater…

    2. avatar User1 says:

      1. avatar American Patriot says:

I spent 6 yrs in the Army what difference does that make? What I said didn’t have anything to do with the military, just another young liberal snot that didn’t get any likes on fakebook or wants to make a name on the news. He got his just…..nuff said!

Probably evacuated his bowels as well since all muscle function ceases at the moment of DEATH..

      1. avatar A O says:

All muscle function does not cease upon death. Some are locked in the position they were when death occurred. Electric charges in the body can also cause additional muscle movement when dead. Rigor begins to change the composition of the muscles, hardening them due to proteins, eventually relaxing when decomposition begins.

        1. avatar Arc says:

Applying repeated electric shocks will soften a body affected by rigor mortis. Ahem.. don’t ask me how I know this…

Newsrep.com reports the gunman was 22-year-old Brian Isaack Clyde, a former Army Infantryman. There wasn’t any record of threats or extremist activity on his social media accounts, but I’m sure more info will follow.
    https://thenewsrep.com/117318/former-army-infantryman-trades-gunfire-with-police-outside-dallas-courtroom-dies/

    1. avatar jwtaylor says:

That site requires a subscription to read the story.
Isn’t the minimum service tour still 8 years? Either 4 years active and 4 years IRR or 8 years Reserve?
      Was he discharged early?

      1. avatar B.D. says:

4 active. 4 inactive. I didn’t have to do any reserve time, but I reenlisted once too. It varies.

      2. avatar M1Lou says:

It depends. In recruiting I’ve seen terms as low as 2 years with an 8 year total requirement. Infantry was sometimes a 2-3 year stint depending on projected need. My cousin did 3 years active as an Infantryman.

        1. avatar frank speak says:

          reportedly had mental issues…discharged early…

      3. avatar Arc says:

Lowest term is 2 years, but most jobs are 3 and four years. If you wana do something high speed, its probably going to be a 5-6 years active because the school work is at least two years

    2. avatar Ark says:

I will eat my hat if this clown was an actual infantryman.

“The Department of Defense confirmed to The Leaf-Chronicle that Clyde served as an Army infantryman from August 2015 to February 2017.”

        Hope your hat tastes great.

        1. avatar jwtaylor says:

So that means he was in about a year with his actual unit, assuming he didn’t sit in med-hold for that whole time, which is also possible. He may, or may not, have actually received his cordon bleu.

        2. avatar barnbwt says:

Wouldn’t be the first time a mental-case got tossed back at us civilians after being found to be badly ‘off’ in training & quietly ‘disavowed’ by his superiors without raising the appropriate alarms *cough* Sutherland Springs. Didn’t we pass a law or something to fix this issue once & for all? Fix NICS, was it? So we not only gave up our one bargaining chip for HPA unilaterally, but it didn’t even do any good? I can’t help but wonder why we bothered.

      2. avatar jwtaylor says:

Discharged 2 years ago, at the age of 20. So he spent no more than 2 years in, and a good part of that was initial training and out-processing. Likely he got chaptered out in training or shortly after hitting his unit. In the pics of him at the shooting, he’s a soup sandwich.

        1. avatar B.D. says:

Was my first impressions. Failed infantryman and or just wanted to die. Seems both. The media will still use it though. No combat experience won’t even be mentioned.

        2. avatar User1 says:

          He also was in JROTC.

        3. avatar Ardent says:

Good observation. I was just thinking that for such a young fellow his physique sure went down hill of the average recent infantry man in a hurry. He sort of looks like the kind of guy who washes out early in his career, and given his apparent emotional instability I’d say it’s a good bet his short stint with the army was largely taken up by sitting around waiting for them to decide what to discharge him for.

Obviously it’s just my opinion, but on a guy that young that much pudge suggests either a lifetime of being quite sedentary or certain types of psychoactive drugs.

    3. avatar MaddMaxx says:

Last week, Clyde uploaded a Facebook video suggesting plans with a gun.

“I don’t know how much longer I have, but a storm is coming. However, I’m not without defense,” he said in the brief video, pulling out a rifle. “I’m fuckin’ ready. Let’s do it.”

On Saturday, he uploaded a picture of 10 gun magazines. On Sunday, he uploaded a picture of a sword with the caption “A modern gladius to defend the modern Republic.”

      1. avatar B.D. says:

        Sounds like a reservist…

        1. avatar User1 says:

That’s odd of you to say seeing that it appears this was an Army man, who is pro gun, wanted to start a revolution, didn’t like the leftists, etc. This wasn’t an incel who was bullied by his classmates. This appears to be a young man who thinks he was bullied by the government. Thus he exercised his 2nd Amendment against the government. He tried to water the tree of liberty…

I remember when Texas cops were taught by the feds that the founders of America were terrorists. They said when some militants/militiamen attack the U.S. government they will be considered anti patriotic terrorists or Muslim fascists.

So I am not surprised “2nd Amendment defenders” would consider this guy, and other military men who attack the government, to be terrorist incel losers. That’s why we can never fight physically for our freedom, liberty and property. Our own countrymen will say we were the bad guys. Therefore the Democrats will every time — they have the votes after all and the government is on their side.

“One man’s terrorists is another man’s freedom fighter.”

I guess I will vote Trump 2020 to implode American soon than later. You’re welcome.

        2. avatar barnbwt says:

Seriously, User, you’re trying to rationalize, sympathize, and justify the late Mr. Leroy Jenkins, here? Despite knowing dick about him or his motivations? Despite the fact he was clearly suicidal or simply a moron, incapable of accomplishing anything, even in death? “The founders” in no way resembled this kind of crazed stupidity, not even when they got wasted & tossed a bunch of tea into the harbor while whooping like Indians.

      2. avatar Ardent says:

Good observation, I’ve heard at least 2 combat cameramen talk about this phenomena. Both said things to the effect that they sometimes had to remind themselves to use cover because viewing the fight through a viewfinder made it seem remote and unreal.

    3. avatar Hannibal says:

3/3/3 isn’t a myth unless you twist it and say “EVERY gunfight happens this way.” There are always outliers… and especially when you talk about police shootouts. And definitely if you happen to involve the NYPD.

Total casualties: One autist, one glass office door.

Some other photos showed a single, clean bullet wound right to the sternum. This jabroni didn’t even get cheap plates to go with his Walmart optic and shitty flat top “optics ready” AR. This is the most anyone has ever failed at attacking the government.

His Facebook was a gold mine of autist anime cringe before it got nuked. What a loser. All this to get drilled right in the chest by a rando security guard and die in a parking lot while running and gasping for air under a bunch of airsoft-grade gear he didn’t know how to use.

    1. avatar possum huffer of exhaust fumes says:

What is the difference between a clean bullut wound and a dirty one?

      1. avatar Mark N. says:

Clean is when it hits a major artery or the heart and you die quick. Dirty is gut shot and knowing you are going to die, either by slowly bleeding out or from the infection you get if you don’t die. Death is slow and painful.

        1. avatar barnbwt says:

Or when your head explodes like Bin Laden’s (or something similarly gory) –j/k we all know OBL received a mag-dump from every team member and likely resembled a trampled pizza-pie before they tossed his corpse into the ocean

    1. avatar Hannibal says:

In addition to luck it must have been a hell of a bad soldier (who probably got discharged OTH) or suicide by cop. But with that much ammo I would imagine he was trying to kill someone.

      1. avatar Will Drider says:

He wore a body armor (plates?), a balacava to cover face/hair AND he ran away. Not suicide by cop actions.

All the guesswork has zero value. Wait for Gov spin on motive and weirdo stuff. Worst case, they come up with the Paddock motive.

        1. avatar User1 says:

Paddock wanted to give Hillary the perfect opportunity to pass another “assault weapons” ban. He chose the wrong people to attack and Hillary lost the election via the electoral college (which is why people want to replace the electoral college with direct democracy/popular vote).

    2. avatar User1 says:

So military men who attempt to shoot their government in an effort to restore the Republic are lunatics?

You “don’t tread on me” 2nd Amendment guys confuse me tremendously. What the f*** do you guys want? Do you want a liberal government or do you want to fight to restore the rule of law? Is fighting complaining on the internet about AOC or giving money to the NRA? What is victory to you? Would you ever attack your government if they ever come to your home to take something of yours? Is Trump the only one that can save you?

      1. avatar Mister Fleas says:

BUNCH of straw men you got there.

        1. avatar User1 says:

          straw man
          n. An argument or opponent set up so as to be easily refuted or defeated.

Yet you didn’t/can’t/won’t answer any of the questions, but you did take time to comment. What does that say about you?

  17. avatar possum, huffer of exhaust fumes says:

A Gun-Free Zone that works, because it has armed LEOs on-site. Far from the soft target presented by an ordinary office building, movie theater, or school where armed guards are unfeasible, unaffordable, or undesirable.

    1. avatar Hannibal says:

Even most LEOs are disarmed when going into a federal courthouse but it sure wouldn’t be the place I would pick to try and shoot up unless I wanted to get taken out quickly. The people securing those sites don’t fuck around.

      1. avatar User1 says:

    1. avatar Barn Animal says:

That was supposed to reply to BD.

      1. avatar B.D. says:

lol yep. Sad really. I only knew two guys out of the, well, more than I can count on two hands, I saw get med boarded that were actually squared away. They were both wounded in action. The rest of the dishonorable chapters (and a couple generals) were fuck ups who should have never made it past basic, and they most certainly never made it to combat. A couple made it to a combat zone, in the rear with the gear, but never really did shit. There were some who got kicked out after returning from my first deployment for drugs. Popped hot. But they were not the most disciplined soldiers either. I would like to know more about this guy instead of making assumptions, but it just doesn’t feel like he finished a full term or had any combat experience, and probably because his unit knew he was a shitbag.

  24. avatar User1 says:

Any “device” cops see is dangerous. It’s an opportunity to blow stuff up. It’s rare to actually come across a bomb.

When things happen in Texas there seems to be a lot of FBI that swarm in. In other places only a few agents show up. Texas seems to be full of federal agents. That’s not a good sign for the future of Texas.

The videos are surely to be put out if it makes the state look good. When it’s the videos for the Houston raid, where police murdered two people, the videos are said not to exist.

Regarding the Houston raid. The physical evidence appears to show that on entry the police shot the women with a shotgun when she was resting on the couch, then shot the dog that was next to her, she was shot once in the chest (likely when sitting/laying on the couch) and another time in the leg/hip after she fell to the floor. Her husband was asleep in his room during the shooting, it seems he may have shot through the wall toward the front door way, then ran into the eating area where he first saw his dog shot dead then his wife laying on the ground dying next to the couch. The police who just shot his family were in plain clothes. At that point there was a shootout with the invaders. It appears the man used a shotgun to fight police armed with (possibly full auto) AR-15s. The police mag dumped at the man hitting him with what appears to be a a full auto string from the upper body to the head through the kitchen wall.

    1. avatar barnbwt says:

Also a great opportunity to blow up evidence –not as a conspiracy, I think, but as a way for the department investigators to avoid a whole shit-ton of work, when the case is already concluded for all intents & purposes (the guy’s dead, and obviously a fuck-up without a friend in the entire world, let alone a co-conspirator)

Speaking of the guy who shot up the police at the BLM rally years ago (as if that has fuck-anything to do with this story, AP journalists) –think about how much work, interrogation, investigation…thread-pulling…paperwork, trials, testimony, and parole hearings were avoided, simply by splattering that asshole against a wall with a brick of C4 strapped to Johnny Five.

      I can see the allure.

      1. avatar User1 says:

They bring up the previous Dallas shooting by a former military guy because he was anti corrupt government and decided to take the fight to the police instead of marching in the streets again. He exercised his 1st Amendment, then he exercised his 2nd when that didn’t work.

        1. avatar barnbwt says:

Oookay, now I see; it took me a while, but I finally got it –you just want to kill all police officers because you got a ticket for speeding or something, don’t you?

      It was a FEDERAL Courthouse..

  25. avatar Vlad Tepes says:

One again a Right Wing Storm Trooper goes nuts and proves that the majority of terrorism in the U.S. is by Right Wing Religious and Terrorist fanatics not left wing people, not Muslims, and not Latino’s. This time it was an ex- military man just as Timothy James McVeigh was, and the White Supremacist Dillion Roof and the list goes on.

    ACCORDING TO NEWS WEEK.

A joint project by the Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute, a nonprofit media center, and Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting has found that within the past nine years, right-wing extremists plotted or carried out nearly twice as many terrorist attacks as Islamist extremists.

Right-wing extremists were not only more successful, they were often more deadly, too. From 2008 to 2016, a third of right-wing attacks involved fatalities, compared to 13 percent of Islamist attacks.

In a statement pointing out the higher rate of successful, right-wing terrorist attacks, the Investigative Fund said: “This project quantifies just how irrational Trump and the GOP’s fixation on ‘radical Islamic terrorism’ as the greatest security threat is.”

“Fixation” might be the right word. The president has yet to acknowledge the problem of right-wing violence, remaining uncharacteristically silent after an Islamophobic attack on a mosque in London that left one man dead.

I might add that Herr Drumpf said zero about a Right Wing Terrorist that attacked a Muslim Church in Canada because it did not fit in with Herr Drumpfs racist agenda.

Now Herr Drumpf is hinting just like Hitler that he will not step down after his term of office is over and that he is “owed” more time in office. What’s next a a referendum giving Herr Drumpf a life time Presidency just like Hitler succeeded in getting. Don’t laugh we are dealing with a Dictator who does not hid the fact that he is one and the Far Right have declared that a one party state is their ultimate goal. This is the closest the U.S. has ever come to a dictatorship and its not over yet.

I heard the camps have already been built, several in the Rockies. Primarily for political dissidents and illegals. Reports of Russian troops are pouring in, they’re training with police and military, and will eventually be used to herd liberals into the camps. This will all begin when Trump uses nuclear ICBMs to create an inhospitable radiation zone on the Mexican border. Training for this event has already begun under the guise of “Jade Helm 19”.

Nope. ‘Tain’t ‘shrooms what does it. Vaccines. Vaccines, I tell ya! Ever’ blessed one of them recent mass shooters, attempted mass shooters, failed mass shooters, and Conspiracy Theorists has, at one time or another, been vaccinated for something or other, or came into contact with somebody who’d been vaccinated for something or other.

Or maybe fluoride. Vaccines and fluoride. Vaccines, fluoride, and chlorine in the drinking water. And contrails. From Black Helicopters. Yeah, vaccines, fluoride, and chlorine, all from contrails from the Black Helicopters.

          Fact!

        1. avatar John in Ohio says:

That’s alright. The paradigm is designed so that the left and right wings both win at the expense of liberty. Google was just cutting to the chase for you.

    3. avatar barnbwt says:

One of your fellow Black Lives Matter tools killed three police officers at a black-supremacist rally a block from this location a couple years ago. Can’t say I can think of a similarly-effective right wing guy.

Also, the whole Paddock thing that the media was absolutely eager to not ask questions about. Whatever cause he was in with, Islam (girlfriend/wife/phillipines) or Leftism (that pic of him allegedly at a womens’ rally), it involved buying a shit ton of weapons to go out in a blaze of mass-murder, began almost the day Trump was elected, and ended at a country (white, conservative, patriotic, Christian identified) music concert in Vegas.

    4. avatar barnbwt says:

Wait a tic; weren’t you the dumbass defending the NRA the other day when a bunch of indefensible graft evidence came across the wire? Are they not a ‘right wing terrorist group’ in your moronic eyes all of a sudden?

Why don’t you hop offline for a while & go back to practicing putting bullets into the heads of kneeling ‘gun nut’ victims or something; you suck at this trolling stuff.

    5. avatar Arc says:

The rooftop video: “Shots fired, Shots fired”.

Too much hollywood for this guy.

Seriously though, one look at the guy and his “gear” and you know he is a fucking idiot. He shot into a glass door, then ran. He was a coward, and a reject. Good riddance. The end. Guns stopped a maniac. Plain and simple.

  28. avatar TexPat says:

For those that don’t know, the Federal Courthouse in Dallas is essentially a fortress and easily the “hardest” public building in the city.

The guy could not have picked a worse target unless his sole goal was to die by cop. Glad he didn’t kill anyone on his way out of this world.

    1. avatar barnbwt says:

This was a suicide by cop (or rather, ‘martyrdom’ in this idiot’s delusional eyes). Exact same MO as the guy in Austin who shot into the PD dept building, and managed to not hit anyone.
