With today’s release of the new Walther PDP F-Series came a release of — you guessed it! — PDP F-Series memes. Though, in my correct opinion, Walther has done precisely what you’re supposed to in designing a firearm for women (whatever those are)! A smaller grip and easier-to-manipulate slide in a gun that isn’t pink and looks just like a pistol normally looks. Shocking.

    • My wife won’t buy it. The Scorpion Evo is the only black gun she owns and she has used the word “cerakote”………..

  1. My wife is 110 lbs soaking wet. But don’t get her angry, then she swells up like a cobra and makes very loud noises.

    Ask me how I know.

She has agreed, in principle, to own a gun. We will purchase one for her when she agrees, in principle, to fire said gun.

    • My lady tells me to do things “or else”
Believe me, you don’t want any of that “or else”.
Don’t be fooled by their size!

      • You feel like you’re being turned to stone under their disapproving gaze.

Likely the inspiration for Medusa and the Gorgons in Greek myth.

  2. Discussing firearms with some friends, the women were not so concerned about ‘dainty’ or ‘petite’ sidearms as they were with firepower. They did not want to “feel” safe because they had a gun, the wanted a gun in which they had confidence.

The 86 pounder in the lot said her preferred home defense weapon is a 12 gauge pump action.

        • Ever met a man who stopped part of a load of birdshot? After years of healing, they look remarkably like burn survivor wounds. Nassssty! I wouldn’t want any part of the big holes, or the small holes!

    • Ask her how often she shoots it. My wife liked a lot of guns based on looks or other things, though color is a big deal to her. But the real deal killer is shooting them. She can’t handle anything bigger than .380, and wouldn’t practice with any of the 9mm pistols.

  3. Lol
One of the biggest mistakes men make with guns is thinking they can pick them for women.

    People like what the like.

  4. “A smaller grip and easier-to-manipulate slide in a gun that isn’t pink and looks just like a pistol normally looks.”

Mrs. Haz said she needed something a little smaller for her, so back in 2018 (before CA changed our laws on P80s) I showed her how to build her own G19 version. Pink. She loves it.

We’ll stick with what we want, regardless of what Jeremy thinks.

  5. I’m a bit skeptical. Women’s bodies are different in some ways, of course, and products built to accommodate those differences (clothing, bike seats, etc.) make a lot of sense. The fact that women’s hand-size and upper-body strength bell curves cluster a bit to the left of men’s does not equate to unique “exact biomechanics of women’s hands”.

Some men are at the low end of the curves, just as some women have bigger, stronger hands than the average man. Many of those men won’t want this (even though it isn’t pink!) just because of this marketing / labeling – when they would happily have taken a look at an “EZ” or “Slimline” labeled product.

    • Thought the same thing. S&W were smart to call theirs “EZ” which alienates no one. A man with hand strength issues won’t want the wathler based on marketing alone.

      • Arthritic old guys, a huge slice of the EZ market (and potentially this too) are about the last people on Earth who are going to say “I wanna see the – what’s Walther call their girls’ gun again?”

    • my mexican buddy had pseudo gigantism; even after they removed the growth on his pituitary his paws are still (just nowhere near as) huge. he smiled when i asked him why he bought the ez. “it’s got the gold trigger and hammer.” he does wear some heavy link 18k neck and wrist stuff.
      stereotypes are real time savers.

  6. My Wife’s favorite pistol is a WWII issued P38. Shoots it better than I do. Her second choice is my Browning Hi-Power. She is also comfortable with my Glock 17.
Now, my big revolvers are a bit heavy for her liking, but, she can use them. Although she doesn’t enjoy shooting the large caliber pistols like a 1911 or a S&W 500.

  7. Finally got my wife to shoot a Ruger EC9s on a regular basis, but it was a long haul. She still likes her S&W M&P 2.0 in 22 lr, though. I’ve given up on rifles; she can barely hold up a Ruger 10/22.

    • Get her to try a Browning SA-22. Lightest high quality .22 rifle I’ve ever shot. The only .22 lr rifle my spouse likes to shoot.
      Downside…they’re expensive

  9. My paternal Grandmother’s EDPC was a Colt 1911 .45Auto. She fired it routinely.
Downsized to a S&W .38 when she turned 70. She WAS big, or seemed big.

  10. Shades of the S&W EZ’s. My wife loves the .380 edition as her home defense gun. Carries the LCP Max every day. I guess when you’re 5′ 1” and 100 lbs. grip width & slide ease matter. When we were stationed in Europe she carried a Colt Junior, legal or not.

  12. “Stop trying to tell them they’re small and weak with every firearm release.”
But they are. And that’s exactly why they need to arm up and carry guns.

Plus, there are also men with small hands, men with arthritis, elderly men, etc. who can also benefit from a smaller grip or an easy-to-rack slide.
I might still FEEL young, but my AARP membership says otherwise.

    • Don’t forget about injuries. I broke my left wrist last year. 6 weeks in a cast where I couldn’t fully use my hand. Slides on full size guns were extremely difficult to use and trying to load a double stack magazine was an exercise in pain and frustration. Luckily I had a Shield EZ which was so much easier to use. I did get quite a bit of practice in one hand shooting though.

  13. Back when I was in junior high school, there was an actual girl, not a tranny, that was well over six feet tall and two hundred pounds. She was often referred to as “Godzilla.”. She preferred a Smith and Wesson, .44 Magnum.

  14. How to sell Walther’s to women? Easy, Have an add campaign with women using walthers. Put the add in magazines that women read, on websites women traffic, and on TV shows women watch.

    • You’ve got something there, Kyle. Vogue magazine, People magazine, all those papparazi magazines, maybe Home and Garden, and the online equivalents. You’re not going to reach very many women advertising on tactical gear sites, or mudmobile 4-wheeler sites, etc. Wherever you find Mary Kay and Maybelline advertisements, is where you’ll reach women.

      • Oh – don’t forget all the places where Pampers and Similac are advertised! Young mothers need protection as much or more than anyone!
