In today’s edition of Why We Carry with a side of Why We Avoid Known Crime Areas we have the New York Post reporting on a gun fight that took place in front of a Bronx, New York daycare center:

A broad-daylight gun battle played out in front of a Bronx daycare with eight children inside on Monday afternoon, cops and the school’s owner said.

Gunfire rang out at about 3 p.m. in front of Colorful Daycare Corp. at 2071 Walton Ave., police said.

“Everyone is safe,” but had the kids been leaving at the time, “that would have been a problem,” said a woman named Emma who identified herself as the owner.

Two men were wounded in the exchange:

A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest and a 28-year-old man was shot in the arm and leg, cops said. Both were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital by ambulance and were expected to survive.

So, how safe is that area? Check out what the owner of the daycare told the reporter:

The daycare center’s owner said she wasn’t surprised.

“I’m familiar with the area,” she said.”

You have to assume residents of the area, including parents of those kids, are well aware of the crime in the area, too. And if they weren’t, a shooting in front of their daycare should hammer the point home. This news story could easily have ended on a far more horrific note.

If you knew an area was high crime, would you continue to frequent that area? Would you put your kids in daycare in there? This is a complicated issue with a lot of issues to take into consideration from income levels to time and convenience to differing perspectives on what is and isn’t “normal” now. Our opinions are colored by our life experiences.

How do you deal with crime and make your neighborhood a safer place in these circumstances? Be realistic and stay within the law, but fire away in the comments.

  1. Yeah, we dont need no stinkin cops or stop and frisk! Your gonna be the mayor of a large ghost town pretty soon, Lurch!

      • Stop and frisk is as un Constitutional as any of the other cockamamie infringements NYC has imposed, whether it is DeBlasio or any other petty tyrant may order.

    • We don’t need stop and frisk.

We do need to exercise our 2A rights.

And we need our legal system to do its job and quit blaming objects for lack of action On its part.

    • Stop n frisk is an unconstitutional invasion of everything. If I were a black man in New York, I would be leading an armed insurrection against the police and their unconstitutional conduct.

You fix stop n frisk by allowing people to arm themselves, legally. The criminals know that there is little if any penalty to engaging in a gunfight in front of a nursery. There are no armed people to put a stop to it. And, when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

    • What NY needs is to let decent law abiding people own and carry guns.

So far in 2020 the cops as employees of governments have shut down businesses and shut down churches, let criminals out of jail, ignored “petty” crimes, released criminals without charges immediately after arrest, allowed and even encouraged riots, and failed to protect the homes, businesses, persons, and property of the tax payers who fund their salaries.

We don’t need cops or stop and frisk. We need guns, lot’s of guns, and the freedom for law abiding people to use them.

  2. Back in the 90s my dad represented a guy who was in a rolling gunfight with a MAC-10 in front of a daycare center. It was a real nice part of town…back in the 60s.

    • I can totally see some leftist think tank proposing cycling through which businesses can be open when selling it as some way to combat climate change, racism, classism and general inequity.

Never step foot in a shithole? Well, this month only the shops in Shithole, NY are open and if you didn’t adequately stock up last month when the shops in that non-shithole place were open (which I’m sure rationing would have prevented you from doing) you’ll have to spend your privileged monies in the shithole.

Now we have equitable distribution of consumer spending. Sure, you got stabbed and your car was stolen but count yourself lucky you were privileged enough to even have a car.

      • I don’t care what products shitholes have or not, they can keep them. I will drive out of my way to avoid them and can say I’ve never set foot or tires in Chitcago, ever,I did enjoy indiana.

  3. Why take yer kid’s to that daycare ms Kat?!? No choice,no $ and no vehicle. Like a bunch of NYC resident’s. And Chiraq. We’ve had an uptick of violence south of She-ca-go. Mostly spillover from The City.My son’s were NEVER in daycare(a deliberate choice) but that’s called sacrifice…

      • Excellent round. I recommend the 210gr XTP in both lever rifle and revolver. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in semi-auto. 🙂

      • Still got 45gap 357sig 32 auto and 45lc on the shelves and we do get periodic 9mm and 5.56 restocks. But for anything that isn’t oddball or ball ammo it’s the local ffl reloader with a 2-3week lead time. Only up side to mandatory pistol licences is we still have a selection on the shelves.

  4. Obviously the perps are astute and did some calculating prior to the shooting and concluded the small stature of day-care kids would lessen the odds of any kids getting shot. And the perps estimated how many rounds in a given amount of time they could stop with their bodies. Since no one other than the perps were shot the perps are obviously mathematical geniuses…democRats give those perps a round of applause.

    • Since no one other than the perps were shot the perps are obviously mathematical geniuses

Must be “homie” schooled, it would have taken them months to calculate all that using “new math” or “Gates Core”

        • Capt Insano: Nobody else shot. So you’re saying no cops with NY triggers were involved

I didn’t say THAT, that was a copied quote from Debbie W., mine was the sarcastic dig at the way kids are (taught?) math today… Don’t know anything about NY cops or their triggers…

  5. Ah, The Bronx. Land of my birth and upbringing.

A paradise where anyone, regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, or previous term of incarceration who speaks Spanish, Ebonics or drug-addled gibberish can rise up and become a wealthy drug dealer, gang leader, paid professional assassin or successful burglar of homes and businesses.

Which is among the reasons I left.

  6. What do you expect when the chief of patrol gets on his knees with ANTIFA demonstrates fuck NYC and Dumblasio and as far as the parents of those children 👶 goes they probably can’t afford anything else. I’m as guilty as sin for not carrying a firearm when I have at 22 of them from.22 to.45 thank Jesus H Christ my time on this planet 🌎 is Damn near over this shit is going to come to civil war.

    • No, not a civil war. As far as I can tell the rioters have no desire to even have a gov’t, let alone run one to benefit citizens.

It will be a something else kind of conflict. Starting in major metro area and slowly spreading out unless it can be contained.

A pattern has emerged from the various MSM personality’s over the last two days. The President wants a ‘race war’ they say. Yet the presidents supporters did not attend or start any riots in the beginning. Controlling the narrative is what they want.

Perhaps we could call it ‘The War of Unintended Consequences’

  7. Sounds like NY might need more Bernie Goetz types. If they want to keep NY for real citizens. Otherwise, it’s going downhill fast.

  8. Do what? That’s one of them Farago loaded questions, everybody knows the Sea Eye A and Elf Be I monitor these gunm sites. But, What Do I Do About Crime? well I’d guess she was about six or seven years old. I seen her reaching for a candy bar, then see stuck it in her pants. So I yanked out my shooter and blew a big chunk of the back of her head off. The cashier said what was that noise, I said you’ll need clean up on isle four I think something fell, took the candy bar and went home .

  9. Stop and frisk is unconstitutional on its face and un necessary. The courts must stop handing out lenient sentences to violent armed offenders. Three % of the population commit 90% of the crimes. Get these people off the streets and I will stop ccw.
