EuropaCorp has acquired worldwide rights to Miss Sloane,” variety.com reports. “The gun control drama was one of the hot packages going into this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and the auction for the picture was highly competitive. The film stars Jessica Chastain [above] and is directed by John Madden of Shakespeare in Love fame. Production is slated to take place in 2016. FilmNation put the project together. It will partner with EuropaCorp on the film and produce the picture.” Plot? The story’s pretty vague – as you’d imagine for a movie in its infancy – but . . .

First-time screenwriter Jonathan Perera [ED: actor in the 2012 Salmon Rushdie-based film Midnight’s Children] wrote “Miss Sloane,” which centers on a lobbyist’s efforts to push through tighter federal laws regulating guns. In the wake of the mass shootings in places like Newton, Conn. (sic) and the live television murder of two Virginia-based television reporters, the issue of gun violence is being hotly debated, making the project a hot-button one . . .

“The film’s subject matter of gun control is an incredibly important issue in today’s world,” said EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert in a statement. “John Madden and Jessica Chastain bring with them such a high level of artistry, making Miss Sloane a perfect addition to the EuropaCorp slate.”

What does that tell you? What’s the bet that the bad guy is Wayne LaPierre or an unreasonable facsimile thereof? Should bomb, if I’m allowed to use that expression.

  1. Don’t see it. Don’t talk about it. Never heard of it.

Or hell go see it anyway. Its box office will be artificially inflated by the billionaire ballistic buy-alls.

  2. Never heard of these people. Didn’t care for “Shakespeare in Love.” Doubt I’ll see it. Doesn’t sound like anything blows up, which is my kind of movie.

    • Ever see the B movie, Machete with Danny Trejo? That not only sold tickets, it got very good reviews (despite being a bucket of cheese). Underlying the whole movie was an “America has no right to have borders and you are an evil redneck KKK member if you don’t agree” theme. It was filled with cartoonish characters based on leftist agitprop.

Good fight and shootemup scenes, though (in the same sense that a candy bar is good food). But I now deeply regret validating it with the rental fee I paid.

  3. In the wake of the mass shootings in places like Newton, Conn. (sic) and the live television murder of two Virginia-based television reporters, the issue of gun violence is being hotly debated, making the project a hot-button one . . .

So they’re just trying to turn a profit off of the deaths of innocent people. Got it.

    • Depends where they test it. I’m pretty sure neither you nor I, or anyone else here for that matter will be invited to join the test pool

  4. Despite the liberal inclinations of the people in Hollywood, most of Hollywood’s output is favors strength, courage, and traditional values. That’s because all of our folk mythologies and literature are similiarly inclined, and every competent storyteller knows it. Indiana Jones will no more negotiate with Nazis than Beowulf will invite Grendel to tea. If Miss Sloane expects an audience, the climax will see Jessica Chastain fight off home invaders with a Mossberg Persuader.

  5. Typical movie-industry hypocrisy. After making billions of dollars producing ultraviolent movies (like the Transporter and Taken series), they turn their attention to telling us all how guns are evil and we dirty proles can’t be trusted with them.

    Stay classy, EuropaCorp…

  6. I wish them all the best of luck with their project.

Their opinions, and now movies, have no bearing on my reality or my rights.

  7. It’s funny to see Hollywood get it wrong time and time again. I’ll bet they’re still trying to figure out why “American Sniper” was so successful. FWIW, this has straight to DVD written all over it. It’s unfortunate that Jessica Chastain is tied to this trainwreck since she was great in “Zero Dark Thirty”. Still plenty of time for her to drop out though.

  8. Erin Brockovich meets gun control. The problem being that Erin Brockovich won so you have a uplifting storyline, and two, there’s really no one on the pro-pollution side of the argument, so it’s extremely easy to build a “valiant protector woman fighting to save innocents against the greedy corporate Borg” narrative without too many people objecting. The equivalent for gun control “people are hurt using guns, so we want to use the government to step on your necks, because reasons”. Which will sell well in some markets, and horribly in a lot of others.

    • The movie will have an uplifting “Hollywood” ending where all the surviving evil gun owners are led off to re-education camps and their property redistributed to the needy. In the camps, the gun owners will undergo enhanced interrogation to determine the extent of their guilt before being herded to the showers for delousing.

The progressive’s wet dream in a nutshell.

    • “valiant protector woman fighting to save innocents against the greedy corporate Borg”
With nice cans, don’t forget that, lol

  9. I wonder how many lies will be in the first 10 minutes of this fucktardery. Probably not suitable for a drinking game, unless you actually want to die…..

    • One drink for every time they call it a clip, make sure you only do half a drink every time they say assault rifle/weapon, or like you said you may die.

      • That thing was so incredibly doomed. Non soccer fans don’t know or care about FIFA and soccer fans actively and passionately hate the guys running it. Most of that $918 was journalists and bloggers who took the hit to confirm, yes, it’s exactly as bad as it sounds.

  10. Is it too early to put on my tinfoil-hat and predict and associated theater shooting, engineered to pave the way to an Australian style gun grab? Yeah, probably…but whatever, you read it here first.

  11. This will end up oscar bait and do well everywhere EXCEPT America. Just like how they planned Zero-Dark Thirty for an Obama win. This will be out just in time for the elections. And it will bomb because the reality is that America has more important things to worry about, like paying a mortgage on two barely above minimum wage jobs.

      • Not on today’s houses, they couldn’t. Such houses were 800 sq ft firetraps and had no AC, 1/4 acre or less, jammed up against an identical house on each side, in a sketchy neighborhood. And if you missed a payment, you’d better have your bags packed.

  12. Apparently, continuing her past Zero Dark Thirty #GovtTerrorist fairytale (which only a geopolitically clueless, gullible, lobotomized primate would believe) role of the dutiful regime court jester propagandist streak, Jessica Chastain the Hollyweird twat deludes going #LeniRiefenstahl-lian is a sound career choice.

    xD

  13. If they are going to have any degree of accuracy in this movie, they should show the mass arrests and democide in the closing scenes of the movie. Leftists assume that everyone is just sheep and will roll over for any government edict.
