Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro waved his magic wand and made everything a firearm, with sales of raw materials subject to background checks. But even the Pennsylvania courts are having trouble with that bit of hocus pocus.

To rub a little salt in the wound, CTRL-Pew also struck back with the Joshie Washie 9.

This is, after all, the 21st century.

People have been hand-making firearms for centuries. Control-freak politicians couldn’t stop criminals from making zip guns from length of common water pipe, or even radio antennas back in the fifties…no CNC mill or 3D printer required.

Thanks to some speedy technological advances over the last 60-70 years, we now have home CNC mills and 3D printers and they aren’t going away. The cat is out of the bag. The horse is out of the barn. Pick your metaphor, they’ve been on the loose for the better part of a millennium.

Victim disarmers like Josh Shapiro need to stop trying to fight Canute’s tide with insane laws that target the innocent. It’s time — if they have the slightest interest in doing the jobs they were appointed/elected to — to start targeting criminals criminally using firearms, instead.

We’ve told you how. Incarceration, education, and self defense.

Additionally, fund firearm recovery task forces to concentrate on finding stolen firearms, and the traffickers who move them. Use tax breaks to encourage businesses to be more open to employing ex-felons who want to go straight.

Just in the past 20 years, some 3.5 million stolen firearms have hit the streets. The grand total for all time is probably in excess of 5 million. The vast majority are never recovered. If Shapiro’s magic wand worked, and home-built firearms quietly faded away, those stolen guns would still be there. Because all these bans pointedly ignore them.

It’s time to start fighting the criminal use of firearms, not the honest folks minding their own business. If the gun controllers cannot do that, they must publicly admit their real goal: socialism and enslavement of the nation. Every new wave of socialist programs in America has been accompanied with a wave of gun control.

Contrast that with the first “gun control” laws, when America was young and this socialism thing hadn’t been invented yet.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

And what appears to be the first national sort-of gun control legislation, the Militia Act of 1792, which required privately owned, militarily-suitable arms and ammunition, and field gear.

But that’s too inconvenient for folks who value Karl Marx over James Madison

The governments of Europe are afraid to trust the people with arms. If they did, the people would certainly shake off the yoke of tyranny, as America did.

  1. ‘— if they have the slightest interest in doing the jobs they were appointed/elected to —’

As they say in the south, bless your heart…

  2. As long as the criminal element and their associates and relatives support politicians there won’t be a serious effort to move on them. They openly support illegal behavior. Encourage more of it. Gun control only applies to law abiding.

Vote carefully and often this fall.

    • Perhaps we should outlaw politicians receiving funds from known criminals. Can’t pass a NICS check, can’t give money or other assistance to politicians.

That would put a real crimp in the pockets of politicians in Chicago. Some wouldn’t be able to give money or assistance to themselves.

    • GS650G,

As long as the criminal element and their associates and relatives support politicians there won’t be a serious effort to move on [criminals].

Truer words have never been spoken.

And to add to your profound truth, civilian disarmament laws help those politicians suppress, subjugate, and squash their political rivals who just so happen to be people who want to exercise their inalienable right to keep and bear arms.

  3. heck the people have been hand-making guns ever since there were guns most of the gun used in the revolutionary war were homemade so why should we stop now

    • ….and a lot of them came out of Pennsylvania…this guy seems a poor student of history…or lacks respect for tradition…does seem to be sucking-up to some of those in neighboring states, though……does seem to be a taint of bloomberg here…

  4. Ah, for the good old days of the Ronnie-era cold war. The revised export control act banned or regulated commerce in any potentially militarily useful technology. From the language, it banned *literally everything.* I read parts of the thing.

You could make an argument that would stand up on the face of it, that a stick, a rock, or a fish was regulated. The arm you used to pick up the stick, the wash where you found the rock, and the hook, spear, or net that snagged the fit — directly military useful: export banned.

    Here’s a hint:

The theory: everything is deeply interwingled.

The application: In the age of Macgyver, everything is a gun.

  5. Now, I dont’ want to get off on a rant here, but…

Gun barrels are called “barrels” because old-school they were made of stays n hoops, some even wooden or bamboo. You can make the pressure vessel out of all sorts of things.

Stone projectiles were quite the thing. In combat with manufactured arms, loading a large-caliber barrel with whatever is handy was a standard technique (though usually not with the poetic justive of Eric Draven shooting-up the pawn shop with a barrel full of pawned rings.)

To make gunpowder (black)… um, you don’t have to go anywhere weird. The formula were a standard part of federal period and after homesteader lore. As for modern powders developed as refinements after guncotton… There’s no stopping meth production. This is easier.

As for primers n other ignition…

In a world where you *still* have to manage mines, grain elevators, n textile plants to keep the admosphere itself from becoming explosive … yeah, you’re gonna stop people from making guns.

      • … and a clue or two.

Flying during one of the inexplicable “raised” alert levels, my swabs twigged the detector. Talking with the TSA minion while they ran my shoes through the x-ray — tells you how long ago this was — ran to “So, what set it off?” A little back n forth n this guy on the screening squad knew, this, or that, or did you do the other thing.

And a moment of clarity spared me a trip to Langey or worse.

About to rattle off: “Oh, of course. That thing’s gotta be a … looking for … because …” which would have landed me a “Son, why do you know such things?”, and free trip, I said, rather: “Huh. All that technology really is something, isn’t it?”

By making all knowledge n skill suspicious, they blind us to understanding what they are doing. Guns are iconic, in history, as agency, and as knowledge n skill harnessed by individuals. Part of the horror of a gun to the anti-people isn’t it’s indiscriminateness, but the skill, knowledge and intent it takes to do make a gun do what you want. And that a gun does *exactly* what you have wielded it to do … down to a couple inches at 100 yards.

  6. It’s that pesky emperical science, n use fo language.

People figure out how to do stuff, then tell their friends.

    This must not stand!

  7. The second Zodiac copy cat serial killer, the one on the east coast, used a homemade zip gun in his killings. Unlike the original, they caught him and his little homemade arsenal.

  8. Something like 300,000,000 guns, or more, among the people in the US. Something like half the households.

When they say “gun control”, they mean demanding half the households in the US do something they aren’t doing on their own. If only there were a name for this…

    • Well, they had to go after parts, precursors, materials and tools because “half the households” didn’t go far enough.

  9. Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary
    Karl Marx

  10. Every-time I read about some authoritarian POS RRREEEEEEEing about 3D printed guns I can’t help but be amused, given that they all really seem to be ignorant of the fact that people around the world have been crafting their own weapons. Everything from the most simple of flint-lock muskets, to machine pistols, to grenade launchers. Yup, the ship of effective gun control has long since sailed.

    • some of this push comes from people telling others how easy it is to do…liberals can read…and, yes…they are watching…
