The Brady Campaign and Everytown for Gun Safey would tell you that Americans yearn for more gun control laws. They positively demand it. Yet when it comes to political advertising this year, too often the big civilian disarmament groups don’t even mention gun control in their ads seeking to prop up vulnerable Democrat candidates. Why is that, do you think?

For example, in Virginia, the struggling Brady Campaign, through Brady PAC, teamed up with the Virginia “House Majority PAC” to spend money on a radio ad attacking Republican Nick Freitas, who’s running against incumbent Rep. Abigail Spanberger. But the radio spot doesn’t talk about background checks or “assault weapons” bans, it talks about health insurance coverage. No mention of firearms at all.

Why would the Brady Bunch bypass the mention of guns or gun control in their attack ads?  After all, they claim gun violence is a national emergency. And they started life as Gun Control, Inc. back in the day.

After all NPR, for instance, claims as many as 89% of Americans support one or more gun control initiatives.

Not to be outdone with fantastically (fake) claims, Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown published this just two short years ago:

Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund released new polling, which finds that NRA support is a political liability for candidates heading into next week’s midterm election. Significantly, 67 percent of voters prefer a candidate who does not take money from the gun lobby, whereas voters indicate they will reward candidates who support gun violence prevention policies. Notably, the survey was conducted before the mass shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, in which eleven people were shot and killed.

On behalf of Everytown for Gun Safety, Hart Research Associates conducted a national survey among 1,200 likely voters with a focus on the issue of gun policies and its impact on voters’ choices in this year’s elections. The survey was conducted online from October 20 to 24, 2018. A polling memo can be found here.

“This poll is just the latest proof that Americans have finally had enough of the divisive rhetoric and dangerous policies being peddled by the NRA and all of the politicians who have done its bidding for far too long,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Voters are tired of empty words and inaction, and next week this poll suggests they will elect leaders willing to stand up to the gun lobby and do something to prevent tragedies like the Pittsburgh shooting from claiming more American lives.”

“There’s a reason I founded an organization aimed at empowering mothers to take on the NRA in the wake of the the Sandy Hook School shooting: as a mom of five, I knew that there’s no more important issue than our families’ safety,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Our goal has always been to make gun safety a top voting priority for American women, and this poll proves that that’s happening. This year, when women go to the polls, we’ll vote to send a strong message to elected officials: Protect our families or lose your job.”

If the NRA is such a political liability, then why is Everytown also avoiding the topic of “gun control” in their ads in multiple states. From the Stephen Gutowski at the Washington Free Beacon:

The nation’s largest gun-control group dodged guns entirely in a new swing state ad campaign that abandons the group’s core issue to focus on health care.

Documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, supported in large part by donations from billionaire Michael Bloomberg, is funding ads that assail Republicans on health care rather than gun control. The ads target state-level politicians in PennsylvaniaIowaNorth CarolinaArizona, and Minnesota. The postcard-style ads, copies of which are posted to the back end of the group’s website, have nearly identical wording.

In an ad against state representative Andrew Lewis (R.), the group accused him of helping to “take health care away from Pennsylvanians” but makes no mention of guns.

Why would they not mention the allegedly popular and politically potent gun control narrative in their ads? Oh wait, there’s more!

Everytown has largely avoided Second Amendment issues when trying to woo voters in swing states. The group minimized gun control in attack ads aimed at Republican senators running for reelection in Iowa and North Carolina earlier this month. The decision indicates Everytown has determined issues like health care and energy production are more persuasive to swing-state voters—many of whom may have recently become gun owners—according to J. Miles Coleman, associate editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.

Could it be that despite all their blather about the supposed popularity of gun control, deep down inside where the rubber meets the road, the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex knows that Americans don’t support gun control. Especially now, with 6.2 million new gun owners so far this year and TV screens full of almost nightly civil unrest, riots and looting.

The fact is, most Americans embrace the safety and empowerment that comes from firearm ownership. After all, Americans aren’t stupid. They know that no matter what happens, they are their own first responders.

  1. Likewise, Harris-Biden, & Co. realize that most Americans, including democrats, would view them as wannabe tyrants if they’re honest about their plans to pack the Supreme Court. Now Biden is talking about being able to demote justices to “other courts.” Don’t worry! He’s having a bunch of “smart” people look into this for him. He’ll just take their recommendation. He listens to the experts (unlike you-know-who)! If the generals tell him we should “fix” Syria, Biden will listen to the experts. He’s promising to do whatever the “experts” tell him to do, like a real leader!

      • That’s what Biden would do, but he will not be honest about it because we peons don’t know what we want and need him to tell us, then to kill us if we pretend to disagree.

  2. Seems since 99.99999% of the population supports common-sense gun laws they’d be happy to mention it in their ads.

Maybe that figure isn’t entirely accurate?

    • Actually, I think the figure is accurate, if “common sense gun control” were properly defined. I think everyone should be able to control their guns to the point that they hit their intended target almost all the time. Seems pretty common sense to me!

        • Well, my friend, if you aren’t in control of your own gun, then maybe you shouldn’t have one. You can demonstrate control by putting your shots wherever you intended to put them. That form of gun control is entirely constitutional – fact is, you can find it in the “well regulated” phrase within the second amendment.

Seriously man, if you can’t control your weapon, then you shouldn’t pick up a weapon.

      • Common sense gun control is extremely popular. Any guns which are not manufactured to standards of metallurgy and engineering so as to be safe to shoot for 100,000 rounds should not be allowed, despite 2A. There are other such common sense requirements, we can all get behind them!

  3. The dedicated antigun .orgs have figured out what the leftist politicos haven’t, and that is gun control is a net loser. They run away from even the term and hide behind generic names or misleading lables “gun safety” or “preventing gun violence” and hope people are dumb enough not to notice that all the gun safety stuff is just gun control with a new name. The lefties are always trying to change to a new term for whatever since that is the only way they can get any traction at all, as PT Barnum said, “There is a sucker born every minute.”

  4. “NPR, for instance, claims as many as 89% of Americans support one or more gun control initiatives.”

89% of American can’t agree on whether the world is round or flat.

      • It seems as if this year is mirroring 2016. Same poll numbers as Hildabeast. Same campaign style as Hildabeast. Same Outcome…

        • “It seems as if this year is mirroring 2016”

Except they aren’t talking about foreign policy much this time because they don’t want to give Trump credit for cleaning up the mess he was left with. They aren’t claiming we can’t trust Trump not to get us into another conflict because he’s the only president in how long that hasn’t done that?

        • I’ve been predicting that President Trump wins in a red/white/blue wave. There are two States that will shock many if it goes like I think and Cali may be closer because the mass of rural voters coming out.

The polls seem to be incorrect just as 2016 was. I never answer cold calls or if my phone indicates spam risk. I ask you..Just who is answering these polls?

Even if I’m wrong about the numbers, no way Sleepy Joe gets to 270. Not happening.

        • I’ve said this until I’m blue in the face. If the dnc thought for one minute they could beat Trump we would have somebody other than old joe on the ticket. He and kametoe are sacrificial goats to protect the reps of real candidates for the future.

My wife is very logical. Nearly Vulcan. She was nearly beside herself trying to figure why joe? It made no sense to her. It took me a couple of days but she finally accepted my explanation.

He isn’t the best they have. But the best they have cannot beat Trump. So they’re being saved for 24.

        • JWM, only bitch I have with your analysis above is that was how Clinton won the nomination in 1992, also. HW Bush had a 90-plus % approval rating in summer of ’91, was clearly unbeatable, so no one from Dem side entered the race. I do not recall anyone EVER having an approval rating that high. Yet he managed to blow it. Fortunately, I don’t think Trump is going to blow it, would be a bit surprised but not shocked if he won all 50 states.

Troubling for Mr. Biden in a different way is that he has not yet matched Mrs. Clinton’s share of support in Philadelphia proper. Averaging the results of the two recent polls, he has the backing of 73 percent of Philadelphia voters, down from 83% for Mrs. Clinton in 2016. According to the Times/Siena poll, Mr. Trump was supported by 24 percent of Philadelphians, nine points ahead of his exit poll numbers in 2016

It is remarkable that the New York Times printed this.

        • LarryinTX: In 1992 there was Ross Perot running as a third party candidate. His intent was to derail GHWB whom he hated, and he succeeded by draining votes away from Bush.

Consider that in 1988 Dukakis lost with 44% of the popular vote. Clinton won with a 43% plurality.

Trump speaks to tens of thousands three times a day while Biden hunkers down in his basement. Meanwhile, Kalamaty Harris can’t even draw a handful of supporters. This means that if Biden wins then absolutely the election was stolen.

  5. I am not so scared of Biden as I am Harris. Biden will be led around(just like many presidents have, especially in their second term) by his Cabinet, DOJ and the Pentagon. He will have moderates in control of him. I don’t like it, but Harris would be a disaster. She would stand up to the moderates and push her agenda, which is anti white and anti American. She will be waiting until she can control or push Biden from office and then it would be worse than Obama.
The fact that he allowed the party to pick Harris for his running mate shows that he is not all there.

    • In a recent interview, Harris claimed not to know that an independent unaffiliated organization found that Senator Harris was THE MOST LIBERAL of all senators based on her voting record. She tried to say that this was Trump fake news–but the facts don’t lie.Her voting record is left of Bernie Sanders.

      • I posted two links showing that the other day (ranking all senators). It’s a well known fact. “She’s a moderate” is another dem talking point lie.

  6. Joe Braindead and the DemoCommie party and their sycophants are all about the elimination of arms from “We the People” of America,PERIOD.

  7. Because most of the new guns being bought are being purchased by minorities and women. In other words, Democrats. The youth love their new AR and AK pistols.

Women vote heavily for Democrats. Minorities vote heavily for Democrats. And now the youth vote outnumbers the older voters. For them healthcare, pandemic, energy, justice system and civil unrest are way more important than gun control. They do care about the economy but they want to move away from socialism for the rich to socialism for the poor, which means they will vote for more radical and younger politicians.

    • Killing the energy sector won’t make the poor less poor. That shows how ignorant those voters are. Plus, it’s literally the democrats that have promoted the civil unrest.

    • All socialism is “for the poor.” Socialism and capitalism can both make the rich richer, but capitalism also tends to make everybody a little more prosperous. Socialism, on the other hand, is the one socioeconomic system that can’t be beat at creating poverty and spreading it around.

It’s an inescapable fact that socialism can’t create wealth. Only capitalism can do that.

  8. YEA! WORD GAMES! The old bait & switch word title to ANTI-GUN ANTI-AMERICA CONTENTS!
ANTI-GUN ANTI-AMERICA WORD GAME BILL TITLE FAILS…..THAT IS OLD AS DIRT! TRY AGAIN COMMIES!

  9. Anti gun zealots are laying low on the behalf of Jim Crow Gun Control joe biden. Should he win rest assured gun control zealots and their useful idiots will come out of the woodwork in their sheets and SS uniforms and march again in lockstep to destroy the 2A.

  10. Just an observation: I was driving through Kentucky this weekend, and heard several campaign ads for Amy McGrath (Mitch McConnell’s opponent) on the radio. She’s running as officially pro-2A in all of them.

An interesting statement, given that a little googling and wiki-ing reveals she also favors banning sales to terror watch lists (lists that anyone can wind up on for any reason without being convicted or even charged with a crime, and have little recourse to getting removed from), “Stronger background checks” and the old chestnut of federal research into gun violence.

    • American Airlines has been putting people on a no-fly list for taking their masks off.

Not sure if it’s the Federal no-fly list or just the company.

    • Democrats are not single issue voters. Some Democrats voted for Trump the first time.

Republicans vote Republican because they are single issue voters. They will vote for anyone that has a R by their name even though those candidates passed gun control. They believe at least the gun control comes slowly under Republicans. However, Democrats will avoid gun control if voters want them to. So far gun control was only possible with the support of Republicans. Obama couldn’t or wouldn’t pass gun control like Trump did.

At one point Democrats were not anti gun. They go in the direction of the wind. They go hard on what brings them the votes.

      • “Democrats will avoid gun control if voters want them to.”

Voters DO want them to. And the best way to get them to do it is to elect Republicans.

        • But that’s how Democrats get their gun control. They let the Republicans pass the Democrat bills. They can’t get gun control passed on their own because Republicans fight too much when Democrats are in control. Republicans roll over when a Republicans are in control because they will never vote Democrat and the Republicans know that.

Same thing with Biden and helping black America, he knows they are going to vote for him anyway because of Trump, so he doesn’t have to give them anything.

        • That’s the problem with being part of a captive voter block. The people who say they’re on our side will stab us in the back, knowing that we have nowhere else to go.

That does NOT mean we’ll be better off voting for people who have already spit in our face and promised to stab us right in the chest. If protecting your Second Amendment rights is a top priority, voting for a Republican is dicey and might not work, but voting for a Democrat is just stupid.

Also, the R and D captive blocks are not equivalent. Gun owners have a long record of real actions, not hidden what-ifs and insinuated dog-whistles, to show us what the alternative is. Democrats actually *have* banned guns before, and when they boldly tell us they want to do it again, we’d better believe they mean it.

Yeah, the Republican party sucks. The Democratic party is far, far worse.

      • “Democrats are not single issue voters.”
“Republicans vote Republican because they are single issue voters.”

Where did you pull that statistic from?

Can Shannon explain how rendering myself disarmed and defenseless makes my family safer?
