Just about everything about the Mayors Against Illegal Guns organization is designed to be deceive. The name would have you believe that the organization is only opposed to illegal guns. But based on their statements and recently-produced propaganda, it’s clear they believe all guns are illegal — or should be — even when owned by law-abiding citizens. Their recent “poll” shows more bias and distortion than spending an hour in the waiting room of an L.A. plastic surgeon. But it looks like some of the MAIG mayors are finally catching on, and distancing themselves from the Bloomberg-created gun control monster it’s become. Make the jump for a letter sent by Rancho Cucamonga, CA Mayor Dennis Michael asking to have his name scrubbed from MAIG’s rolls . . .
Dear Mr. Levinson,
This is a formal request to immediately remove my name, and the city of Rancho Cucamonga, from any and all future correspondence, advertisement petitions or lists of cities, and mayors, who support the Mayors Against Illegal guns movement. On behalf of the City, I originally signed on in 2011 because of concerns about criminals who possess, use and traffic in illegal guns. Since that time, however, and particularly with the recent developments at the national level in support of stricter gun control laws for everyone, mandatory background checks at all venues, and efforts to restrict firearms ownership by law-abiding citizens, it has become clear that the Mayors Against Illegal Guns movement supports far broader gun control measures than I originally believed.
Further, my constituents have expressed their concerns to me recently, and indeed their opposition, to the manner in which the City’s name, and my name, are being used in the media as an agency, and an elected official, that supports broad based gun control. While I still support efforts to pubish criminals who possess, use and traffic in illegal guns, I am also a supporter of the Second Amendment and I do not agree with, nor do I want to be a part of, efforts to restrict legitimate gun ownership in a broader context. In light of the prominent goal that Mayors Against Illegal Guns is playing in the larger national debate currently taking place on this matter, it would be inappropriate for me to further lend my support to your cause. Therefore, pleaase immediately remove my name, and the city of Rancho Cucamonga, from all further lists of mayors and agencies that are part of your coalition.
Sincerely,
L. Dennis Michael
The agents who enforce the laws passed by those who have betrayed their oath, and who stand forsworn themselves, is no better than selling to the agencies directly.
Until and unless this policy is changed I won’t evr purchase an ArmaLite product.
Yes! Righteous news. The Nazgul is pleased.
Oppsss Nick I guess you beat me to it..
Ronnie Barrett is the man! 🙂
This guy just won the February “Dude, You Got Balls” Award.
Rancho Cucamonga is in San Bernardino County. It is east of the Iron Curtain and more tolerant of guns.
Those who were asleep are beginning to wake. This is a good thing that is long overdue.
There should be some sort of idiot award for signing up with MAIG in the first place.
Walking into a room of rabid disarmament zealots didnt tip him off years ago?
“Honestly, I thought NAMBLA was just an offshoot of Big Brothers Big Sisters!!”
Better late than never I guess.
Thank you J&G for joining us (the common folk) in our fight against tyranny!
Hopefully more mayors will also speak out.
Over government has NO problem with abortion, so why would they have any issue shooting a pregnant woman or a young child.

When it comes to words, he was MINCELESS.
The cops should never have access to arms which are denied the ordinary citizen. That’s the bottom line, and that is where the stand should be made.
Way too many Safety Nazi’s whining…
Relax people, its just a pic. She’s in no way a model of a trained firearms enthusiast. If you look at every other celebrity posing with a gun, they always have their finger on the trigger. Why are you guys even surprised???
We should be happy she is at least promoting firearms instead of being against them.
Thanks so much for keeping TTAG a pleasant place to go!
Good article.
What I’d like to know is what exactly happened with the picture you posted of the exploded AR. I would bet that it was an incorrect handload/reload cartridge or something like that.
If they don’t like ILLEGAL guns they should just make all guns legal. Problem solved.
Hope other join him.
Sauraman is not all powerful we see, how much longer before Frodo destroys the ring of power, we shall see!
I live in Massachusetts, and no…nowhere is safe. They passed tons of strict laws here and Sandy Hook gave them another shot to try and pass more restrictive insanity.
If they pass, I’ll have to move or sell my guns. They’ll force me to pay for insurance to even own them. It’s draconian!
Hmmm, would selling a good car to get a .416 Barrett result in a divorce? It’s tempting.
I actually oppose captial punishment by the state (because they get it wrong too often), but when a private citizen uses deadly force against an evildoer caught in the act, I have no problem with that.
I’m not getting any autoplay ads. I use the latest version of Firefox with no ad or banner blocking plug-ins.
Every time I hear Barrett, I think of The Simpsons where Homer goes to buy a gun:
CLERK: Well, you’ll probably want the accessory kit. Holster…
HOMER: Oh, yeah.
CLERK: Bandoleer.
HOMER: Baby.
CLERK: Silencer.
HOMER: Mm-hmm.
CLERK: Loudener.
HOMER: Oh…
CLERK: Speed-cocker.
HOMER: Ooh, I like the sound of that!
CLERK: (holding up a huge weapon) And this is for shooting down police helicopters.
HOMER: Oh, I don’t need anything like that… yet…
Christie is a fat, treasonous dirigible who shan’t be trusted. He is nothing more than a mid Atlantic come New Englander lib democrat masquerading in conservative cloth. His calculated antics post storm Sandy praising Commissar obama just before the election cost Romney the presidency, or sure as heck was one of the late game changers that did. Christie is aiming for the white house, as the next major party candidate, be it donkey or elephant as his party…he cares not. But he knew is Romney won then Romney was gonna be the candidate 4 yrs from now and so he tanked him. Pure and simple politics. Same reason he came after the NRA about the commercial that mentioned president’s kids, while sitting silent about the president’s own propagandist use of kids in his presser the same day. That sweat hog Christie will sign the Second Amendment away in that toxic land state of petrochemicals, and never look back.
As a lawyer I agree wholeheartedly with the above notion of taking the fight to the grabbers, getting into the courts as fast as feet will carry us to the courthouse. We need to get into the courtroom NOW so we can get the inevitable adverse rulings from the liberal activist lower courts and have an appeal heard by SCOTUS before the balance and antigun activism shifts upward and hits there. The data are there and we have the four corners of the constitution, as well as so called legislative intent of the framers on our side. It will take years for the cases and appeals to be heard and make their way up – why wait any longer? All we need is a valid and willing plaintiff. The filings and legal work can be done relatively easily and cheaply, if not free. And not sponsored by or footed by the NRA, so we can cut that propagandist leg out from under the communist mainstream press before it even starts. Someone rom NY, from CA, from CO, needs to get on the ball. For the rest of the U.S.-by-God-of-A. Before it is too late!
I grew up out in the Pioneer Valley.
Some days I feel like Coriolanus.
In SC we dont get advice like “wait til they are inside and evaluate the threat”. However, it might have been prudent to give Deyfon an opportunity to extricate himself but then again Im sure we saved a shitton of tax dollars not incarcerating and rehabilitating Deyfon down the road.
Translation: I see the political writing on the wall for supporting groups like yours. Also, I like being mayor so there.
What planet do these people live on? Gun control laws are going to reduce gang crime and robberies? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
“Both direct and indirect drug abuse would be greatly reduced with drug control laws. With the non-existent ability to acquire a drug, direct drug abuse like that related to crack houses and ecstasy parties would be lessened. Moreover, indirect abuse like recreational use that occurs when teens have access to drugs in the home would also be greatly reduced as well.”
Um… so how has that all been working out?
Over the years our VP has had many nick names. I would like to promote a movement to hearby have him known as Blind-Fire Joe
Yay doublestar!!!!
And when those 00 buckshot pellets go through two walls into your sleeping child’s room, I’m sure that Biden will still maintain that an accurate rifle would have been the wrong choice.
The only positive (albeit a very small positive) that can be gleaned from Malloy’s actions is that what he was hearing out of the committee was less restrictive than
Obama and Biden’shis own proposal.I won’t buy this for one reason: unregulated LED lights suck. I want a light with a DC-DC converter which will drive the LED at full brightness for as long as the battery lasts, with some warning that input voltage is dropping to critical levels.
I don’t want a light that’s 10% as bright when the battery gets low. That 200 lumen claim is probably good for the first 5 minutes of the 1.5 hour runtime, and based on my experience with unregulated LED lights, will plummet by 50% or more in the first 20 minutes.
building firearms is awesome, and it’s the main reason why guns bans will never work. Furthermore, we already have an estimated gazillion guns in citizen possession, and probably half a gazillion in criminal possession.
Firearms have a long life, and are very very very durable. Musket from 1790 anyone?
Here is the point:
-i could drive about .8 miles, and buy whatever gun i want on the street, as long as i have the cash or proper item to trade. You’d be surprised at what these dudes have to offer.
-i could drive said .8 miles, and RENT a firearm. Maybe $25 or $50 bucks depending on who i know, and length of rental time. Or maybe the person doing the renting is willing to split the cake after I do my burglary. That way, i don’t have to put any money up front.
-i could pick up Nancy the Trick Without Felonies, and get her to go to LGS, and have her buy whatever I want, and pay her $50 for her labors.
-I could watch RF’s house, wait till he leaves for National Resistance Day on 2/23, and burglarize him. I’d get tons of money for those rifles on the street, and i could trade for concealable handguns. Hell, i’d convert the AKs to full-auto, because if i’m going to have an illegal gun, might as well DO IT RIGHT.
The point IS – There is a huge black market economy for illegal guns. As long as law abiding people have ANY guns, and they can be STOLEN, the only people being hurt from gun restrictions are the LAW ABIDING.
I beleive that there is simply nothing you can do to prevent criminals from getting firearms, and if they are ALL confiscated, they will be built, in which the scenario repeats, ad naseum.
*disclaimer, i would never do the things above, just proving a point. And sorry to shout with using all caps, but whatever.
