Last night, the Fox program Glee featured a school shooting. Needless to say, the national media swooped down on Sandy Hook to scare-up some outrage. Apparently, parents offended by the episode were a bit thin on the ground. “I think it’s terrible that the writers and producers of that show didn’t think to contact someone in Newtown to let us know this was coming,” Andrew Paley told newtownbee.com (a quote picked up by the Washington Post and others). “A lot of people watch that show. They shouldn’t be upset by it.” Well I was upset that the producers didn’t take the chance to show a proper response to a school shooter like STFU, muting phones, properly barricading the doors, maintaining a positive indeed agressive mindset, etc. [Click here for the real deal]. And here’s the political punchline related by the WaPo, not in the clip above . . .

And if the images of a potential school shooting weren’t enough, a scene toward the end of the episode shows a gun control debate, as cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester claims the gun was hers, taking the fall for the student who brought the gun to school.

“I’m sorry, but in light of recent events, I feel more safe with it in my office,” Sylvester tells the principal after she confesses that she owns the gun.

“Look, Sue, I’m not going to argue the merits of armed teachers right now,” the principal says.

“It’s a different world from when you and I started teaching…the safety net of the public mental health system is gone,” she replies. “Parents with troubled kids are too busy working three jobs to look after them. And the gun yahoos have everyone so worked up about Obama taking away their guns, that every house has a readily available arsenal.”

Wait. What? Gun owners afraid of losing their Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms are buying too many guns which creates too easy access for their children which led to a negligent discharge in the Glee school? GTFO.

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t “Glee” just a ripoff of “Fame” but with sh1ttier music? And wasn’t “Fame” the TV show just a ripoff of the movie of the same name? And wasn’t “Fame” the movie just a ripoff of some Mickey Rooney movie — or maybe every Mickey Rooney movie?

There’s sooooooo much originality in Hollywood. I can’t wait for the next remake of “A Star is Born.”

  2. Hollywood is a collection of professional liars that portray fantasies. Expect nothing from them.

I cannot begin to fathom the loss those families suffered in Newtown. That does not make them the center of the universe. Their tragedy has little bearing on millions of law abiding gun owners.

    I know, I’m a heartless prick.

  3. Let me see if I’ve got this right…We shouldn’t talk about violence or guns in schools or Newtown UNLESS its to only talk about getting rid of all those evil guns. Got it.

      • This question and a lot of Eddie the Eagle talks with your own kids. Not everyone practices locked up or on your person.

        • I follow the Nutnfancy philosophy. Our 3-year old knows what they are, and how they are supposed to act around them.

    • “Yes, but first time visitors are only given straight razors. You have to be a regular before we let you play with a gun.”

    • “Just one thing, before my son comes around to play. Do you have any high-powered assault weapons, with high-capacity magazines, full of dum-dum bullets, readily available in your house?”

      “No, of course not!”

“In that case, you need to borrow this…”

      🙂

      • If you don’t have these weapons how can I trust my child’s security with you? When your child is at my house he’s protected by an adult with a gun.

    • It makes sense to know about potential safety hazards where your child plays, but guns are hardly unique in this respect. Do you have a pool? How do you keep kids from wandering in unsupervised? What about power tools? Hell, I happen to own something called a horse, which is fully capable of crushing a child’s skull before you can react, and comes equipped with its very own brain, making it capable of independent action.

  4. So the Whole World now needs to clear anything gun related with Sandy Hook, or Aurora? Bad things happen, all over-and we can and should grieve-but life goes on. This political correctness nonsense is getting to be a real PITA. Can’t do guns in movies or TV as it may offend, can’t use gun companies or gun rights group as sponsors, because we need to “think of the children”. Can’t wear clothing that depicts firearms, cannot talk guns in school. Can’t take photos of your kids with guns. When and where does this lunacy stop? People seem to have forgotten we live in AMERICA-you know the “Land of the free”. Or is Liberty now a dirty word as well?………………..

  5. The return of the “very special episode”.

I thought Glee was all about embracing outcasts and inclusivity. How would a kid in that environment ever go sideways enough to shoot the place up?

    Oh, right. Guns.

  6. since bad things will happen from time to time like this kind of event, how about you give the good guy, the teacher, the right to get a carry permit and have a gun in the classroom. Would have been nice to see the episode play out that way with the teacher drawing his gun to protect the students and not just hiding in a corner.

then again that’s fighting back and is looked down upon these days sadly.

  7. “Sandy Hook to scare-up some outrage. Apparently, parents offended by the episode were a bit thin on the ground. “I think it’s terrible that the writers and producers of that show didn’t think to contact someone in Newtown to let us know this was coming,”

I live in CT, and we are all getting sick of the Sandy Hook Parents! So, now they want to control broadcast TV too? I am sorry about what happened, now go away and STFU. If you do not like the show, do not watch. Pure BS! You do not get a say on everything that happens in the world — soon you too will be forgotten.

      • Exactly. Ask the 9/11 Widows and Cindy Sheehan how long a career as a professional victim lasts. It lasts exactly as long as you’re useful to powerful interests. Once you’re used up, you become a distraction, and they want nothing to do with you.

  8. I agree that it was a huge fail because it didn’t show what to do in an Active Shooter scenario. Hiding and cowering in the corner is the DUMBEST thing to do…you are in effect just waiting to die.

GET THE FLOCK OUT OF THE KILL BOX!

Break a window and leave the building. Treat it like a fire…would you stay put in a burning building?

  9. This is where Hollywood has just said it was okay for a person to bring a gun to school and fire it off. You wont be to blame its someone else who is at fault. For a teacher to come up and say hey that was my gun, i did it, was the totally wrong message and bad thinking. where is the consequences for the actions of the student, no matter who the child was, or what handy cap the child has, it is so inappropriate. but hey it is Hollywood where nothing applies to them, it is all in the name of entertainment, or should we say money. This is what Hollywood is teaching the children.. I am so disappointed, i do not think i will watch the show again

  10. Seems like the MSM can take any situation whether real or fantasy, and turn it into an anti gun exercise (i.e. WAPO being one of the MSM leaders here). I still believe that those in the MSM, whether editors or grunts, don’t know squat about real human nature (i.e. the Criminal Mind). I have heard people who were callers to the various conservative talk shows (Rush, Hannity, Levin, etc) say with all seriousness that those of us who own and/or use “assault rifles” IN ESSENCE pulled the trigger on those helpless little kids. Yeah, just like ALL of us killed JFK (I was nearly 30 then) and this was my first experince with a large organization (the Catholic Church) that has worldwide respect that could shift the blame to everybody like they did. Since then it has become the norm.

  11. I’m not going to lie, I have seen every episode of the show, I like it.

What happened was a girl named Beckey that was being mentored by a teacher (Sue) brought her father’s 1911 to school because she was worried about being a victim if there was an active shooter. She confessed to Sue and went to hand it over when she had an ND and dropped the gun which discharged again. Sue, the teacher, was actually covering for Becky and took the blame.

The whole thing seemed, to me, like it was a bunch of non-gun people with a bias trying to address recent events and issues while trying not to come across as biased. They weren’t outright saying guns were bad and also skirted the issue of armed teachers but there was the attitude of “How could someone bring a GUN into a school?” despite clearly showing how helpless and defenseless everyone was. It didn’t seem like they were trying to push an agenda or send a message but it was apparent that the people involved weren’t familiar with guns. Especially since they had a 1911 fire with the hammer down and then again just from being dropped.

  12. I think this is the best part…

“I think it’s terrible that the writers and producers of that show didn’t think to contact someone in Newtown to let us know this was coming”…

So now producers should have to contact anyone who might be offended before airing a show. People there are some buttons on that remote control. Press a few and you’ll find at least one turns it off and one will change the channel!

  13. I think people are missing the point. If you actually watch the interview on CNN, The guy from Newtown was saying they don’t care if they air the show but were being insensitive to the people of Newotwn where the emotions are still so raw by not giving them the heads up before airing so they could make an informed decision about watching it. That’s it. End of story. To make it out to be more than that shows you didn’t watch the interview yourself or you have your own agenda, one side or the other.

  14. Given permits to buy guns have gone up 16.25% (203) in Newtown the first 6 months of 2013 compared to 2012, apparently there isn’t as much of a story in Newtown regarding this. Newtown has a poplulation of just over 28,000.
