She could have just said, “No Democrat can be a viable candidate in 2020 without supporting radical gun control laws,” but that would have been a Kinsley gaffe.

Her campaign doesn’t mention anything about supporting the Second Amendment, but as of her 2012 op-ed, the senator believes in both “the Constitution and an individual’s right to bear arms” and believes the first place to look for answers is in the Second Amendment, citing the importance of the words “well-regulated militia.”

“I just think as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned more about life and sometimes you’re wrong and you’ve got to fix it,” Gillibrand said in a Feb. 2018 interview with CBS 60 Minutes. “And if you’re wrong, just admit it and move on.” She echoed this statement in 2019 on CNN shortly after announcing her 2020 candidacy, expressing that being wrong has led her to be more thoughtful about all issues, putting the needs of the people first as opposed to her own self interests.

“I think someone who can’t recognize when they’re wrong is far more concerning if you can never admit when you’re wrong. And not only was I wrong, and not only should I have cared more about gun violence in other parts of my state or other parts of my country, I just didn’t,” she said.

Putting action behind her words, in January, Gillibrand joined 40 of her fellow senators in reintroducing the “Background Check Expansion Act” that would expand background checks and aims to reduce gun violence across the nation. Two months later, she would speak on the Senate floor imploring her colleagues to “immediately vote to ban semi-automatic assault rifles and bump stocks, pass a universal background check system, close the gun show loophole, make federal gun trafficking a crime, and allow the Centers for Disease Control to research gun violence.”

      • I’m a progressive Democrat who has absolutely no problem with any law abiding citizen owning and carrying any firearm, even fully automatic ones – and maybe a rocket launcher. And I’m pissed at those Dems who live in suburban gated communities who have no idea why someone would wish to protect themselves and their loved ones. My Democrat neighbors feel the same as I.
Living IN the city of Detroit.

  1. Yeah, and as we’ve grown we learned the dangers of self righteous politicians who presume to know what’s best for us peons!

  2. The numbers don’t lie. Gun rights are a losing political proposition in a big way with an increasingly urban population and immigration of 3rd world slaves. People seem to think that a few million people buying all the guns can compete with a couple hundred million more who are hostile or practically indifferent to their right to bear arms.

    • The majority of urbanites are not hostile to the right to keep and bear arms. They vote Democrat because of cultural bias and the Democrat party is controlled by the emotionally unstable hard left. And because of that the Democrat party is quickly becoming a regional party that holds little appeal to anyone who doesn’t live on the west coast or northeast. Add the advantage rural states have in the senate and electoral college and I can’t see any significant gun control measures gaining traction on the federal level anytime soon. That said, New Jersey will still be New Jersey.

      • Explains the fixation on delegitimizing the electoral college election after election. Now to see if moderates and commies have a split in time to matter.

        • Don’t think that if they get the electoral college eliminated they won’t be coming for the senate next. They’re missing a few things though. For instance, they honestly believe that if they eliminated the EC the vote would remain unchanged, but if it was a popular vote then Trump would have campaigned in CA and several million Republican voters there would realize that their votes actually mattered now and gone out and cast a ballot. And if they did get their way and the coastal elites got to dictate to flyover country how to live every aspect of their lives then the country would disintegrate and they’d be stuck in their shithole socialist enclaves.

        • ” And if they did get their way and the coastal elites got to dictate to flyover country how to live every aspect of their lives then the country would disintegrate and they’d be stuck in their shithole socialist enclaves.”

We’re not properly addressing the EC ‘issue’. We need to hit them back with their own tactics. They claim it’s about ‘fairness’, one person, one vote.

They need to be reminded that it isn’t in any way ‘fair’ that states with massive population should be allowed to bully around the smaller states. Every state, large or small, gets two senators each. We should further remind them that well over 80 percent of American counties voted for Trump. It isn’t ‘fair’ a few counties should bully the vast majority of the rest of America.

Etc, etc, etc. Throw their own tactics right back in their smug faces…

        • The moment we start applying coastal ideas to the interior I see a lot of civil disobedience pending. I can hardly contain my maniacal laughter when my acquaintances suggest the military would deal with such opposition. That said want no part of any of that going on, the EC is one of the few checks we have against the dangers of democracy (read mob rule) and I think the reason we are still mostly stable.

        • The nation will break when the elimination of representative government (this fixation on popular majorities) collides with an Article V convention. The popular majority backed ‘legitimate’ federal will refuse to abide by the states’ convention amendments that would restore a proper balance of power, and then it’s game on.

        • “…collides with an Article V convention.”

That isn’t going to be happening. The small states understand the danger and will not vote to allow that to happen.

That’s another of the ‘safety fuses’ built-in to our constitution…

      • The democrat party isn’t becoming a regional party over here. The Chicago democrats are (and have been) moving to the suburbs, and taking their politics with them. It’s like a mold spreading everywhere. Everything north of I-80 is turning blue.

    • State, so now you’re pushing the old’ only a few old white guys are buying all the guns’ trope like the progs?

And all this time you’ve been pushing yourself as a pro gun, anti state person.

  3. Wow. I had no idea gun trafficking was still legal. I’m thinking I should get in on that action. While it lasts.

    • What you don’t already have your ghost gun assault factory up and running? Gotta keep up with the times.

      • I’m hoping to follow Ruger’s model from when they rolled out their first AR15. Right when EVERYBODY was making budget ARs, they just moved right in and cut out a nice big slice out of that pie and took it.

        • Disregard last, you are way ahead and liking your business model. Ruger made damn sure we still have options up here and have 3 of the 4 near term future purchases for the family on our list.

        • Barrett as well but they are a bit further down the list but only because of price and limited access to relevant ranges up here so likely my midlife crisis.

        • Ethnic nationalism with a heavy focus on state powers vs state centralized totalitarianism by committee. Honestly yes there is a difference but it ends in the same misery for the same reasons so why split hairs over leftists/statists.

        • I think you misinterpret their position.

They are super-tolerant of people who think like and agree with them.

It’s all us dangerously-violent-by-definition people who don’t agree with them who are intolerable to them.

  4. As she has gotten older, she has lost her knowledge of basic English (if she had any knowledge to begin with).

    • This is what the progressives are progressing towards: criminalizing everyone that isn’t them.

They are the fascists we were warned about…and they’re coming for us. Not just white people, but EVERYONE who values peace and the freedom to speak your mind.

You have an opinion they don’t like? No First, Second, Fourth, or Fifth Amendment for you, troublemaker.

  5. … putting the needs of the people first as opposed to her [Senator Kirsten Gillibrand] own self interests.

A politician putting the needs of the people before their own self-interests?!?!?!? That is a real knee-slapper! Bwa, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

    • I remember this one, can’t blame the lady for finding the ranch more appetizing than a position reversing politician with actual connections to the Clintons and a sex cult.

      • I forgot that adjustable stocks are also features of an assault weapon. I guess my car is an assault car. I can adjust the driver’s seat.

  6. Anyone who buys into the total platform of a political party is failing in their duty as a Ciitzen of this Republic. Political Parties have devolved into competitors for loyalty to Nation, Party’ists. As party Members, the deep believers are now far more Party Citizens than they are American Citizens.

Absolutely Gillibrand and a herd of other Democrats are off the deep end of the Cliffs of Insanity on gun laws. Unfortunately, they are balanced out by the massive stupidity of the Republican Party Citizens on certain hot button issues. It goes back and forth between them, contrasting extremes of dyed in the wool absolutist ideological extremism and pragmatic problem solving on an issue by issue basis.

My state is majority independent with some of the best Second Amendment reaffirming laws in the nation. Becoming more purple over the years, but still has gone Red for Presidential selection each cycle. So much so I’ll likely vote another third party or write-in in 2020 as the polls would again indicate that political moderates, the majority independent voters, will mostly favor the right wing Presidential candidate, easily defeating the left wing option.

It may not be another 2016 where the two candidates are as extremes of despicable, but it already is looking like a truly hideous choice between candidates who disgust and appall me.

  7. Isn’t it interesting the coincidence between this bimbo taking over hillary’s Senate seat and her “conversion” to full fledged brady-ite? Like, before that, she was a Representative from an upstate NY district, an area with strong hunting and shooting ties…………… Quoting Wiki: She represented New York’s 20th congressional district, a conservative district in upstate New York, and was re-elected in 2008. During her House tenure, Gillibrand was a Blue Dog Democrat ….. BUT, becoming the JUNIOR Senator from NY placed her solidly under the wing of the SENIOR Senator from NY, and we all know who THAT is, good ol’ chuckie schumer hisself. Anybody still not sure where her conversion came from?

  8. Gillibrand used to give lip service to Gun Rights when she was a congress women from a upstate district. She actually used it to soften resistance to here initial Senate run. Once becoming a Senator she showed here true colors and become heavy anti 2A.

    • Yup. Claimed to keep guns under her bed at night just like The Great Unwashed upstate. Now she is morphing into Clinton.

  9. All that learning, and hasn’t learned anything that’ll help. Wonder what she was “learning” about?

  10. I’ve never seen a “loophole” at a gun show and isn’t illegitimate trafficking already a crime? Hell, as I have gotten older the more I believe in rights and freedoms and the political doom that should surround those who oppose either. And I’m older than she is. By about 20 years. I’ve been reading and studying history and the Constitution since I was 10which was 8 years before she was born. I can say she talks like a child because I AM old enough to be her father.

  11. Translation from DC spin into English:
“I’ve learned over the years that it pays for me to just take Bloomberg’s bribes and read whatever script he hands me. It’s so much easier and more profitable than actually working to support my lavish lifestyle.”

  12. Why is “front hole” considered offensive?

Its the AMA approved term for self identifying transgenders.

    Transgender language is now prohibited?

    SUPPORT THE FRONT HOLE

  13. i’ve learned that I want power, as much as I can get. In NY that means forsaking the people who originally put me in office in favor of the know-nothings in NYC, and of course the Clinton/Bloomberg/Gates/etc. axis money. Love that money.

  14. This dingbat is not going to be president only she doesn’t know it yet.
Another one looking for a VP slot. If her hair smells good Joe may choose her.

  15. Just another democrat opportunist that helped take a racist party that was slowly becoming a party of the people and turn it into a totalitarian party for the elite.
