Press release from ISRA:

Recently (4Q 2011) several members have forwarded an e-mail to ISRA that they received regarding gun control financiers, specifically George Soros, attempting to gain control of the majority of the firearms and ammunition industry in the US with the ultimate result to shutting them all down. The emails typically go something like this . . .

For the last several years a company called The Freedom Group has been buying up gun and ammunition manufacturers. Some of the companies are Bushmaster, Marlin, Remington, DPMS, Dakota Arms and H&R.

Some people worry that this Freedom Group is going to control most of the firearms companies in the United States.

If you control the manufacturers you can decide to stop selling to civilians. What a perfect way to control guns.

Now if you do some digging you will see that The Freedom Group is owned by a company called Cerberus Capital Management. Guess who controls Cerberus??? GEORGE SOROS !!!!!!!!! One of the most evil men on this planet who wants to restrict or ban all civilian guns.

Please pass this on to all your freedom loving friends. This needs to come out.

Why have we not heard about this in the “mainstream” media? I would think this would be BIG news.

Here are the facts:

  • Freedom Group owns a large number of firearm and ammo manufacturers. This is TRUE.
  • Freedom Group is owned by Cerberus. This is also TRUE.
  • Soros owns Cerberus. FALSE or at least highly improbable and unable to be confirmed.

This ‘warning’ started as e-mail forwards in late 2009/early 2010 when Freedom Group attempted to go public with stock and they bought up Barnes Bullets.

Cerberus was started and is owned by Stephen Feinberg. No reputable sources we have found (ie Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, etc. ) list Soros in any way connected to Cerberus. Most locations for this are online message boards or blogs that copy/paste the same or similar ‘warnings’ like the one above.

Occasionally ‘Soros & Feinberg’ wording is added to them to give the alert some semblance of credibility.

So while Soros IS a gun grabber through funding such organizations as IANSA and Media Matters, it’s not through Cerberus or The Freedom Group.

  1. While anyone can create a false image about themselves, I can’t imagine a reason Feinberg would do so. He’s private and does not want public recognition on the street. He is not a Bloomberg type. I pulled some info off the web on the CEO of the investment firm that owns the Freedom Group:

“Some of Feinberg’s hobbies are: chess, skiing, game hunting, and riding on his Harley motorcycle. Apart from being in private equity, he and his wife are also supporters of the Republican Party and other Republican organizations”.

“And so on a Wednesday evening, I went to Mr. Feinberg’s office, which is almost threadbare compared with most of his peers’ temples of wood-paneled walls and platinum-plated bathroom fixtures.

The wall-to-wall carpet hasn’t been updated in years. The head of a massive elk, fixed on the wall, casts a cold eye on visitors (Mr. Feinberg shot the animal on one of his regular weekend hunting trips). An American flag, folded in a crisp triangle, according to honor guard protocol, rests on a window ledge (Mr. Feinberg was in the Reserve Officers Training Corps in college). And smack in the middle of his office sits an almost-life-size model motorcycle that resembles a Harley-Davidson. (He has a real one at home.)”

  2. Cerberus Capital Management owned by that sleaseball George Soros? Utterly preposterous. Steve Feinberg is is a prominent Republican. Dan Quayle (‘memba him?) is a senior executive with the firm and Donald Rumsfeld an investor. John Snow was Secretary of the Teasury under Bush and held other positions under Nixon and Ford. None of them are hanging out with George Soros.

    • “None of them are hanging out with George Soros.”

Have you ever heard of the Bilderberg Group?? Republican puppets and democratic puppets work towards the same goal.

  3. While I doubt old Soros is ever going to buy any gun manufacturer, I do wish that Mr Feinberg would revive some of the models that Marlin hs stopped manufacturing. Cerberus have done a good job with the Dakota group companies and improved quality that had slipped somewhat – I hope Marlin can start offering good leverguns in many calibers that they have (temporarily?) discontinued once more in the future.

  4. Let’s pretend for a second that George Soros really does own Freedom group. Does anyone really think that buying up gun manufacturers and then shutting them down would be a viable way to implement gun control? I mean, if the Freedom group disappeared tomorrow, the demand in the market would still be there. It would be a godsend to other existing players in the market and new start-ups. The gap in the market place wouldn’t be there for long. Talk about an expensive exercise in futility.

  5. I’ve made this point before but the senior management of Cerberus include former Vice President Dan Quayle amongst many other former senior Republican officials… Figuring out that Cerberus is basically the exact opposite of a Soros venture only requires google and a little common sense…

  6. Hey… I just got an idea… if Soros doesn’t own it then maybe we can get the OWS idiots to picket/demonstrate in front of their establishment! If they won’t do it we will know that Soros owns it!!! ???

  7. The process of changing ownership of arms companies, has existed since there were companies making guns. Marcellis Hartley owned both Winchester and Remington around the turn of the centuary (19th to 20th), This past weekend I attended the Texas Gun Collectors ) show in Ft. Worth. One display featured a series oof leverguns manufactured by Whitney and a partmer, I believe there were six or eight Whitney – __________, represented. Do you remember Bangor Punta purchase of S & W? Olin selling Winchester (the gun maker) but keeping Winchester (the ammo producer)? ATK purchasing Herculese and their smokeless powder facilities? The owners of GOEX (the Black Powder people) once was DuPont and now control GOEX and Hodgen Powder?

These examples are ones which easily come to mine. What Freedom Group has done and is doing is just good business. The civilian firearms market is fragmented, it makes good finicial sence to bring together like manufacturing to realize the economy of scale.

Investors circling troubled firms, but price may be a stumbling point

MADRID (MarketWatch) — As the restructuring of Spain’s savings banks enters a key phase, an opportunity is opening up for U.S. hedge funds and private-equity firms to play a role.

    Reuters
Spain has endured a severe recession related to the collapse of the housing market. The reorganization may offer a window for U.S. private-equity and hedge-fund firms to take advantage of the situation and earn a profit for their investors, much as they did when U.S. banks were caught in the maelstrom of the 2008 financial crisis and needed new capital to survive. Hints of potential deals already have begun to crop up.

Over the weekend, several Spanish newspapers said billionaire investor George Soros, U.S. hedge-fund group Paulson & Co. and private-equity groups Cerberus Capital Management and Blackstone Group were set to meet executives of lender NovaCaixaGalacia to discuss possible investments. (Is George Soros connected to Cerberus Capital Management? I think he is. Cerberus probably got its name from Greek mythology. Cerberus was a 3 headed dog with snakes coming out of his body rather than hair. He was evil and so is George Soros.)

  9. Cerberus?

Didja miss the whole Chrysler debacle? Really? I know the TTAC’ers understand, but the rest need to do some real research.

The five-headed dog has no more to do with Soros than I have to finding the Olive Garden serves Italian food. Or that McD’s sells a tasty burger.

BTW- I’ve seen several ‘cap mgmt’ groups like Cerberus kill many a viable company by simply raping them to death. I have no love at all for these subhuman parasites of our economic system. But that does NOT mean they have sweet FA to do with Soros. (Who ain’t on my Xmas list either…)

  10. Cerberus was also involved with Soros in a money laundering scandal, as were others. But Cerberus and Soros are mentioned together too many times not to wonder what the relationship is. Also, somewhere a George Kollitidess (sp), of Greek descent has been identfied as a bigwig of Cerberus, and also a friend of Stephen Feinberg (sp) who is identified as the owner Cerberus. I still thing George Soros has a connection to Cerberus and the Freedom Group regardless of whether the Olive Garder servs Italian food or McD sells a tasty burger (which they don’t). Guess the air from Porchespeed has infiltrated the airhead’s brain.

  11. I have a problem with all that is said here, and Robert, I know you know better then to make blanket statements like that. Cerberus is a private equity firm, each group is set up as a limited partnership, with each group having it’s OWN financial backers. Remember how much scouring you did on the Chrysler ownership? Freedom Group is no different. We don’t know who funded it, and all the press releases I’ve seen never actually say that George is not an investor in Freedom Group. They say Freedom Group is owned by Cerberous, they say Steve owns and runs Cerberous, but they never say who invested in the limited partnership of Freedom Group.

  12. His (Soros) owning all the manufacturers would only stop new guns availbility. It wouldn’t get rid of the millions in private hands. He would have to work through the Government. Although with this administration anything would be possible. By stopping ammunition manufacture ,that would dry up the supply. Then man would have to resort to other weapons such as knives, cars, and clubs, swords.

  13. Don’t overlook they (Cerberus) would go to jail, or at least be sued into bankruptcy by their investors. Imagine them buying Taco Bell and deciding to stop selling tacos. Now if he personally owned Freedom Group he could do what ever he wanted.
