Gawker’s Adrian Chen has been called out before as being one of new media’s biggest “click whores” and gun control advocates. And today’s sensationalist title just reinforces his reputation. When he stumbled across the above (very nice looking) rifle legally for sale on Reddit, apparently the mere sight of the gun combined with the Reddit alien logo engraved in the lower was enough for him to soil his Underoos. Which, in turn, led to his article titled “‘Reddit Assault Rifle’ Is The Most Terrifying Thing On The Internet and It’s For Sale on Reddit Right Now.” . . .

It’s all part of the effort to demonize guns and gun owners. The tools are scary and anyone who owns them is mere seconds away from a shooting spree.

On that same front, one Reddit user named Gabour has begun re-posting pictures of other Reddit users’ firearms collections under the title “If this redditor snaps…” (example here). This is the emotional argument that is being made against the 50% of Americans who own guns, portraying them as rednecks and psychopaths. Which is exactly the same as associating black people with chicken and watermelon.

  1. I suppose it’s too late in the debt crisis to get government funding to start a hoplophobia awareness and treatment organization…

  2. The drama is unquestionably breathtaking. Terrifying to me is joe biden lying that the “American people are with us and they (Gun grabbing elected types) should know”.

    • I’m still freaked out by Double Barrel Biden going around advising people to pop off two shotshell blasts as warning shots on God only knows what trajectory. “I’m Joe Biden, and I approve this negligent discharge”.

  3. the comments are, as usual, the worst part of articles like this… for example…

What scares me is this growing subset of gun culture. The people who want “kick ass” weapons that serve no real purpose and appeal to crazy and irresponsible people. I grew up hunting. I am fine with gun ownership for hunting, trap/target shooting, limited self defense. All of this can be accomplished with shotguns and rifles with a capacity of 3 rounds or less. There is absolutely no need for military style weapons, semi-automatics, ammo clips of any sort, or even handguns (outside of law enforcement).

    Tailgunner Joe?! Is that you?!

WTF is “limited self defense”? Like, if 10 guys break into your house, you should only be able to have the ability to stop 1-3 of them? Cos I mean really, if there are that many, then they have the moral right to do what they want because they are the majority.

    • It’s comments like the one you cited that make me wish every hunter alive would have a massive heart attack at the same time and die. Far too many hunters speak out against the Second Amendment.

    • Five-round clip. You will need to wait until they’re lined up so you can take out more than one per round. May God have mercy on your soul.

GOODNESS SAKES ALIVE!!! A rifle for sale on the INTERWEB!!! Percy, GET ME MY VALIUM, QUICK [faints, soils pants].

The three most demonized things in America today are, in rough order: 1) being white, 2) Being a man and 3) believing in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

It might just TAKE a zombie apocalypse to sort the weak sisters and weenies out. How fast you figure those zombies can motivate?

    • People that say they “Grew up hunting” or “I’m a gun owner myself” on the internet in preface to an insipid gun control comment are lying.

  4. Reddit has a pretty gun-friendly culture… it’s one of those free-thinking, almost anything goes places on the internetz where you can spend hours of time reading random stuff. The “Rome SWEET Rome” thread, where a debate about whether a modern US Marine battalion could wipe out the Roman empire morphed into a time-traveling hypothetical narrative, is a good example.

Anyways, Gawker is one of those gossip blogs where people who are obsessed with pop culture go to let their minds die. And Adrian Chen? It’s hard to take a guy like that seriously where he posts pictures of himself like this:

    http://gawker.com/5940444/here-is-a-picture-of-a-gawker-writer-wearing-a-tutu-with-a-shoe-on-his-head

Clearly, he’s the kind of writer who’d rather engage in stunts and fear-mongering than actual… you know… writing.

    • That’s because real reporting is dead.
      Every one has an opinion.
Everyong has a blog (sorry, RF).
      Everyone is an expert (….)
      Gonzo journalism is the standard…

  5. I will hate if they ban internet sales if guns and ammo. It can be impossible depending on where you live to find certain guns and ammo. They sell absolutely no 7.62x54R in my area and never have, even before the run on guns and ammo. Of course MA banned internet sales so I have to wait until I leave the state soon to buy the ammo I need. What’s stupid is FTF sales can be done in cash and not tracked but with online sales they have your name, address and CC info but internet sales is bad!

    • Its cheaper and easier to buy bulk ammo online than in person. If they can stop the cheaper and easierness of bulk ammo sales, things like shooting camps for kids/teens to teach them gun safety will get more expensive and will happen less often. It also means fewer people buying massive amounts of ammo and becoming great shooters and doing youtube videos of how much fun shooting can be in practical pistol/rifle games. Also means that the shooters who shoot thousands of rounds a month will clear out local gun stores and other ammo shops which means no ammo for the casual plinkers/hunters/target shooters causing strife and in-fighting inside the gun culture.

That’s why they do not like Internet sales.

      • It also means I will not be able to take a stab at three gun this summer after I move. I was going to use my AK/XD/and Shotgun TBD(the one I wanted is on back order). Of course 7.62×39 is best in bulk as it is cheap. If I wanted to buy in bulk, I will have to go find someone selling it at a gun show.

  6. Is this guy selling his rifle by way of auction?

If so, I hope this bunched-pantied prick from gawker ends up driving up the final price.

    • I got banned from /r/guns for saying very mean things about Gawker and the Mods being retarded for censoring “Political” threads, the mods are angry Obama supporters who don’t like anyone pointing negative comments towards Obama/Biden so they censor in an attempt to make it all PC and faggot friendly, it’s effin’ retarded. use /r/progun instead.

  7. So that’s the most terrifying thing on the internet…

Has Adrian Chen actually ever *used* the internet, or does he just write stupid things and hand them to someone else who knows how to use teh webz? The most terrifying thing about the internet is the fact that asshats like Chen can be seen and heard on it.

  8. Reminds me of the hipster douche Seth Hendrix and his amazement over the “fact” that they sell MACHINE GUNS AT WALMART!

  9. just wish that folks would emphasize that all retail sales over the internet have to go through a local FFL Dealer with appropriate federal paperwork. I think the public thinks these sales are delivered door to door.

  10. This twat is doing this just to get pageviews for ad revenue. By providing a link you are driving clicks (and thus money) in his direction. This beast needs to die by starvation, so stop feeding him.

replace the link with a screenshot if you want to talk about anything Adrian Chen does…better yet, ignore him and wait for him to go away.

  11. I used to read all of the Gawker sites religiously pretty much every day. Since the gun grabbing nonsense started I think I have maybe been on there once to confirm my suspicions of their liberty hating agenda. It was cute and ignorable when nothing was happening. After recent events occurred, they’re officially the enemy in this propaganda war.

  12. I got banned from /r/guns for saying very mean things about Gawker and the Mods being retarded for censoring “Political” threads, the mods are angry Obama supporters who don’t like anyone pointing negative comments towards Obama/Biden so they censor in an attempt to make it all PC and faggot friendly, it’s effin’ retarded. use /r/progun instead.

  13. I just spent the greater part of my lunch break looking through all of the “If this redditor snaps…” just to check out everyone’s collection. This guy should start a website for Gun Porn. I especially like the handguns arranged in a heart.

  14. Gawker’s “shock” at legal online gun sales (through Federally-licensed firearms dealers) is like someone being shocked that legal abortions are performed across the USA.

Seriously, have liberals been living in a cave? They are completely clueless about the entire firearms industry and yet they claim the authority to educate the public with exasperated “OMG LOOK HOW SCARY THIS GUN IS!” journalism???

I’d sooner trust an Amish electrician, thank you very much.

  15. “Gawker’s Adrian Chen has been called out before as being one of new media’s biggest “click whores” and gun control advocates.”

Sadly, the only cure for stupid is retroactive abortion.
