Over the last couple of generations, starry-eyed, self-important journalists decided it’s the job of the media to speak truth to power. To afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. Somewhere along the line, things like who, what, when, where and why got kicked to the curb. And that moral imperative for truth-speaking seems highly dependent on who happens to be in power at the time. Which is why the job these days frequently falls to John and Jane Q. Public. Thanks to the advent of the Intertubes, when a 15-year-old girl stands up and delivers a stinging bitchslap to the (Maryland) legislators who are poised to take away her gun rights, more people than just those in the room at the time will hear about it. This video was put up by themarylandminutemen.org last week and has gone viral Gagnam Style.

  1. if only facts or constituents opinions mattered. delegates are going to find out soon enough why they have not touched gun control in 17 years.

    • This will be true if the jaded voters, that refused to come out when their candidate wasn’t of their religious background, will cast their ballot. Single issue voters cut both ways.

      • Sorry, it’s not like that at all. People don’t vote because they can’t discern any important difference between candidates, and in fact, there IS practically no difference, rhetoric aside.

When no real choice is offered, you are wrong to blame people for not voting. How would YOU cast your vote, if you had to choose between being drawn and quartered, or burned at the stake? Would actually pick one over the other?

        • While I am certainly not stating that Mitt Romney would be a stellar president, we would be FAR better off with him for a GREAT many reasons, given the current alternative. To claim that the differences between them are merely rhetoric is an empty, tired expression which, while catchy, is only a platitude.

It might not have been perfect, but I would choose to work with someone who is center-right and try to push him further right ANY DAY over a far-left ideologue that I would have to push towards the center.

        • Who stayed home?

I thought it was the religious types who had issues with Mormons, but I’m willing to be persuaded otherwise.

        • @Rosignol …. “I thought it was the religious types..”

Well you thought wrong. What don’t you understand about the poll result that says that evangelicals and Catholics turned out in stronger percentages for Romney than McCain. And this was from the leftist Wapo that would love to generate Republican civil war by saying conservative christians hate Mormons.

So who stayed home? My guess is the cry baby Paulbots who proudly declared that they were going to sit on their hands sure didn’t help matters.

    • Exactly, I think we’re about to see just how much the minority leftists have been running things with their rock star president and dependency voters when they overwhelmingly kicked out. Bill Clinton warned them but they aren’t listening. Mikeb#’s and the rest of them think they have this wrapped up but the shock will be on their side in November unless they back off and lull the rights lovers to sleep again.

      • I’m a Democrat and I can assure you I will never vote again for anyone in the Democrat party. Both parties are terrible leaders, but the Democrats a turning out to be FAR worse. Independents here I come.

    • I somehow get the feeling she’s involved in Forensics as well as shooting sports…

Though a just a tiny bit clumsy on delivery, that presentation had very competent 1st year Speech and Debate written all over it. If you want to see kids like this in action, find a local HS with an S&D team, and volunteer to judge rounds when they host a tournament. Or just get in to see the final rounds which will often be in an auditorium.

      • would your own 15 year old self had the stones to speak in such a public forum? This is a remarkable young lady and what she says in the video is SO spot on.

        • Hokey smokes, I didn’t say she was terrible, I said her delivery was a bit clumsy. Just like any NFL judge would, especially if she were doing extemp. She looks to have tons of potential.

If she gets that feedback, she’ll know to practice and be even better next time. And the better the presentation, the more seriously she will be taken.
There’s a world of well-spoken 15/16 year olds who are as slick as any news anchor, and I would bet in a few months she could be too.

A camera-friendly, sharp 15 year old girl is a great counter to the image of the brainwashed dolt who just parrot the anti-gun slogans. Hopefully she gets put out front again.

      • I think she did great. A lot of sand to speak out like that. Good attitude, facts, and youth. Maybe there is hope for the USA after all.

  2. The future of gun culture is looking up. We need more younger members to speak up in defense of the rights protected by the constitution, and to vote accordingly when they are of age.

    • I have to agree. The most exciting thing to watch are the young Ron Paul-inspired “liberty Republicans” that have been awakened. Just yesterday, a 24 year old nurse named Leah Cole won a state rep seat here in Massachusetts.

      • Then I suppose you’re even more excited about Rand Paul. Unlike his father, Rand Paul doesn’t fight just to get his ideas out to the public, Rand intends to actually win.

  3. It was brief, to the point, and used numbers rather than emotions, and it won’t matter to its targeted audience any more than a fart in a hurricane.

  4. She came armed with facts and presented them in a calm,
logical process. She must be stopped. Cue the hate mail.

    • You generally don’t get a lot of time to speak at things like this. It’s hard to pack a ton of info into that little bit of time.

  5. Facts don’t matter to politicians. The only thing that they care about is staying in power. The value in speaking like this to politicians is that voters may hear what is said. Until voters wake up, we’ll have one bad bill after another to deal with.

The key question to every person running for office has to be, Do you consider yourself the servant of the people or their master? Back that up with the politician’s record, if the person has been in office before.

    • “Facts don’t matter to politicians.”

Mostly agree. Most politicians only respond to emotions, especially emotions that make them look mean.

We have to play by the left’s rulebook.

Statistics don’t work much for our side because……

      1) I’d guess 50% of the population doesn’t know what 50% means, yet alone what more complicated stats are trying to convey

      2) Statistics only work when you have a MSM that will constantly repeat your favorable stat (even if its a lie) i.e. the 40% lie about background checks. The MSM won’t repeat our favorable stats. Ain’t gonna happen.

      3) Most people think that stats from both sides are lies or cherry picked so their ears glaze over whenever somebody talks about stats and facts.

We have to use the method that has been fostered in our leftist schools and universities…..EMOTION

Here is how you have to argue…..

      A) You mean and heartless politicians are leaving my children undefended in schools by your “no gun” policy. The deaths of 20 kids at Sandy Hook are due to the reckless policies by politicians that prohibited defensive weapons. The blood of new child victims will be on your hands when you pass new gun control laws that limit defensive gun use.

      B) You racist politicians with your rascist gun control policies are putting poor defenseless kids lives in jeopardy.

That’s how you play by the left’s rulebook.

  6. Only one problem with what she said. The 2nd Amendment does NOT “grant” the right to bear arms. In GUARANTEES that the right will not be infringed. We already had the natural right to bear arms.

  7. Sadly there is little reason to believe any of the liberals listening will take anything she says into consideration.

She did not speak of her feelings or the poor children. Facts and data are so dry and boring!!

  8. Her stats on Afghanistan are incorrect, (you are not more likely to be killed in Chicago, rather more people have been killed in Chicago) but overall her argument was clear, well thought-out and persuasive. Nice to see from someone so young.

    • Her facts are totally correct. In Afghanistan, population 35 million, 2,176 service members killed. In Chicago, population 2.7 million, 4,000 some odd people killed. 2,176/35 million vs. 4,000/2.7 million. .000006217 vs. .00148. Wanna be contrary? Going by Afghan civilian casualties during the war up to 2011, its 17,079/35 million (wiki numbers were all I could find). So Afghanistan .000048797. vs. Chicago .00148. You are statistically more likely to be murdered in the glittering utopia of Chicago than the war torn, terrorist filled, 3rd world dust bowl that is sunny Afghanistan.

      • So you count the entire population of Afghanistan, but only the number of service people dead? That’s statistical bias if I’ve ever seen it. Compare number of service people dead to total service population, and you see why her numbers are wrong.

        • Wouldn’t let me edit. 2176 american dead to 150,000 deployed.

The civilian measurements (your 17000 number) is rather misleading as well since, after all, that counts people killed in action directly related to the fighting, and not all murders.

My main point is that while the comparison is interesting, we shouldn’t try to make it more than it is. It is striking that more Americans have been killed in Chicago over the past decade than in Afghanistan. Trying to compare likelihoods is not really helpful or needed.

      • Those are just war on terror related civilian deaths though. Wish I could find a real murder rate for Afghanistan. You really can’t compare the fact that a guy walking down the street in Chicago is has a (slightly) higher chance of getting to his house safely than a soldier patrolling Afghanistan searching for terrorists to somehow that is because the Chicagoan is unarmed. I bet the actual total murder rate per 100,000 is still worse for Chicago.

  9. This is the 2nd post this morning centered around concisely dismantling the gun control argument, delivered by two folks who couldn’t be further from the stereotypical OFWG’s we are all portrayed as. Loved the calling out of Chicago as the hellhole it is, not the peaceful utopia they’d have the masses believe it is. Just when I was losing hope in America’s youth too… Color me pleasantly surprised/impressed!

  10. A 15 year old more rational, logical, and intelligent than any leftist.

Well, politicians are another matter. I’m sure plenty of leftist politicians are very intelligent, they’re simply morally bankrupt and use their intelligence to manipulate the drooling masses and spread their evil. Couple the villainous intent of progressive fascist politicians with the stupidity, weak will, and moral fickleness of their followers, and you have…well, every despotism that ever existed, and the future of this country.

  11. these government “servants” aren’t interested in rational arguments. they are riding a wave of emotions. their constituents aren’t capable of focusing on nor solving the real problems behind violence. In classic Democratic party fashion, they are giving the people something easy and SIMPLE to focus on. and they deserve what they get.

  12. Not like it’s going to mean anything to the politicians who listened to her…

Everyone here knows exactly which way they’re going to vote.

  13. Ditto… This young lady displays more wisdom than most adults ever show in their entire lives… Now if only Maryland legislators (employees) actually listened to their constituents (employers) instead of those from Hollywood, Special Interests Group, and the like.

As to voting based on a single issue; the single issue in question here is, “In the eyes of our elected officials or those running for office, are we viewed and respected as freemen as documented in the U.S. Constitution with inalienable natural rights or are we viewed as subjects whose rights are only those given by the government that can be revoked/rescinded any time at the whim of said government – be that government of local, county, state, or federal level?”

Lincoln and other anti-slavery believers were willing to lay down their lives to extend Constitutional rights to a segment of the population denied. Now we have politicians and special interest groups with hidden agendas who often compare themselves to Lincoln who are attempting to take away Constitutional rights and send this country into another internal conflict to do so. IMHO, not ironically funny but pretty darn scary.

    • Lincoln and other anti-slavery believers were willing to lay down their lives to extend Constitutional rights to a segment of the population denied.

I see someone’s only read the kid-friendly Disney version of the Civil War. The reality was quite different from what you portrayed. Lincoln’s goal was power and the utter destruction of the idea of limited Federal government and States making their own laws. Lincoln was cited many times (publicly and in private letters) talking about how blacks were inferior to whites and how he had no personal problem with slavery. He only became anti-slavery after the war was already started because it was a tool to use to hurt the South. In personal letters to Southern leaders he openly stated that if they came back and acknowledged his supreme power, he would let them keep slavery – but if they resisted and dared to think they had a right to make their own decisions, he would destroy them. That’s also why he made sure to rush the 13th Amendment through Congress before the war was officially over and Southern states would have a vote on the matter.

Do no delude yourself into thinking the war had anything to do with slavery – it was about the Federal government asserting its complete and utter domination over the States. Lincoln was a racist, power-hungry tyrant and the fact that he’s worshiped by Americans (especially those who believe in freedom) sickens me.

      • Sorry, I don’t watch Disney films. Just for edification, welcome citations on the Lincoln reasons you write of. And yes, the CW was more than just slavery – such as state’s rights, interstate trade, and what some call double taxation. That said, welcome your citations. Have a good day.

        • Such a typical American, unwilling to bear the horrors of reading and learning something. And we wonder why this country has become such a mockery of what it once was?

I might have time over the weekend to do what you’re too lazy to do, not that you’ll accept facts contrary to your beliefs.

  14. I wonder how many legislators were playing solitare while she was speaking. She gave a great sermon to us (the choir) but I somehow feel that her words entered some deaf ears. I wish that facts still held some sort of weight these days.

  15. It’s hard for reason to overcome whipped up emotions, and politicians only exploit these issues for their own gain.
