We hear much about the continuing exploits of Florida Man. He’s become the object of a lot of well-deserved ridicule around the Intertubes. FM’s been known to relieve himself in inappropriate places, challenge cops to drag races, stash drugs in unusual locations and can be easily bribed with pizza.

But not every Florida Man is deserving of ridicule (just ask Luis Valdes or Travis Pike). One such upstanding individual is Donovan Stewart of Miami. He was in his car early Monday in Liberty City, Florida when an armed individual apparently tried to carjack him.

According to CBS Miami Steward said . . .

“Well, he opened the door like this and pointed his AK-47 and I reached around like this and got my gun. That is how I did this to him,” he said.

“So I thought you are you going to kill me so now I have to act quickly because I am trained,” he said. “You know I have a security license, I have a G license and I have a state firearms license and a concealed weapons permit and I have a gun and I am a member of the NRA.”

“I am going to defend my life and those I love,” he said. “My family is innocent and just don’t put an AK-47 in my face. I will not allow that to happen. This guy also hijacked a woman in a van and was found with her car key. He robbed another woman at gunpoint.”

And defend himself, he did. Steward shot the would-be carjacker and killed him.

“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” said Donovan Stewart. …

“I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica,” he said, “and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.”

The armed man had reportedly carjacked a woman the same way before choosing Mr. Stewart as his next victim.

After Stewart’s quick self defense action, the criminal career of the un-named man with the AK comes to an end.

  1. Why did the Jamaican have to shoot so many bullets? Couldn’t he have just shot the gun out of the carjacker’s hand? Couldn’t the Jamaican have just wounded the carjacker in the arm, or leg? I would stop after being shot just one time, any reasonable person would. It is just common sense, settled science that shooting to kill is just plain mean.

      • “He should have had insurance instead of a Glock!”

Thas whut ahm talkin’ ’bout. Insurance is not a mean thing to do.

        • We need to get rid of these weapons of war by making them illegal so the criminals will stop killing us with them!!! ARE YOU WITH ME??? All that poor man needed was a friend (and some transportation). Not a full ‘clip’ of bullets from a Glock dispensed into his vitals!

        • “We need to get rid of these weapons of war by making them illegal so the criminals will stop killing us with them!!! ”

Good idea. You could start a whole political movement with that. Say, “Mons Demandin’ some action, mon”?

        • Everybody knows Jamaicans are mean people. Besides the AK guy just wanted his van and probably wouldn’t even have shot him if he’d just given it to him. Cars, vans, and trucks are just stuff and can always be replaced. If you give it a little thought the AK guy was a “have not” person—his act may have been violent but it can also be see as a dramatic protest against an unfair system that institutionalizes inequality. The AK guy just wanted something he didn’t have. //sarc//sarc//sarc//

        • “The AK guy just wanted something he didn’t have”

Don’t we all? Don’t we all?

(BTW, three sarcs may not be enough)

        • “Insurance is not a mean thing to do”
Except carjacking career criminal’s carjacking career seemed to be in some kind of boom, so insurance companies hike up the rates in his neighborhood leaving many unable to afford insurance or the companies start cancelling policies. That is exactly what happened with liability insurance until a few insureds banded together and started fighting back. Insurance is not a victimless crime; every time the company pays out the insureds pay the price with interest.

        • “Insurance is not a victimless crime; every time the company pays out the insureds pay the price with interest.”

True, but mostly the insurance companies aren’t mean about it.

        • OK Sam.. Start warming up the vocal cords. I’ll grab the guitar and will run through a couple choruses of Kumbaya!

        • “OK Sam.. Start warming up the vocal cords. I’ll grab the guitar and will run through a couple choruses of Kumbaya!”

No, mon, We jus’ doan worry, an’ be happy.

        • How much deductable should I get? My gun is older so I don’t want to throw money away on an older model pistol. I’ll check with the lizard on TV or the mayhem guy for the right coverage.

        • ” “Or insurance AND a Glock.”

Here we go…back to being mean spirited.”

I have Life insurance, Firearm Legal Protection insurance and a Walther PPQ 45acp that is EDCed.

Increasing my odds of staying alive (for my family) and having legal counsel insurance so I not bankrupted, hardly makes me “mean spirited”

I thank God that I live in a country that allows me the RIGHT to protect myself and loved ones with a FIREARM, but I pray to that SAME God I NEVER have to use it.

        • “I didn’t know Glocks had a “clip”!!”

They don’t. They have a clipazine, without a thingy that goes up in the back.

        • “How many bullets does a Glock clipazine hold, anyhow?”

Read somewhere that with a clipazine, you can shoot a thousand rounds a minute. But that was from an anti-gun source, so reality is probably only 750 rounds per minute. Either way, a clipazine holds a bunch of ammo.

        • I didn’t know Glocks had a “clip”!!

Well, I guess you do really learn sump’in new everyday, huh!

        • “…reality is probably only 750 rounds per minute.”

Well by-golly, I learnt sumptin today! Thanks, Sam!

        • “Well by-golly, I learnt sumptin today! Thanks, Sam!”

Happy to be here. Grateful for the opportunity. Proud to serve.

        • i view insurance only as a necessary evil until you can save enough to replace what you have. After that it is dead money. Invest your money wisely so you always have a slush fund is a better option especially when it comes to material possessions (which i wish i had). As for glock being a harsh option Sam I Am, well….. perp already chose that option with AK pointed in victims face. To late for softer options.

        • “As for glock being a harsh option Sam I Am, well….. perp already chose that option with AK pointed in victims face. ”

Ya’ll are just mean, mean, mean.

Santa knows who’s naughty and nice. Hope he leaves a lump of coal in all your stockings hung by the chimney with care.

        • piece of coal would be welcome me thinks. help keep the place warm and cosy 🙂 much better gift than trinkets that have no practical use and only look pretty

        • “piece of coal would be welcome me thinks.”

Great. We have only twelve eleven years left to save the planet, and you want coal so you can make black smoke to belch into the oxygen that lets the planet live. Not only are you mean, you are really mean.

        • well maybe i could use the piece of hot coal to keep blacksmiths forge going and keep a piece of iron red hot waiting for mr AK man and he can get that in the ribs instead 🙂 now that will warm his insides 🙂

        • “well maybe i could use the piece of hot coal to keep blacksmiths forge going”

Absolutely not. You must find an environmentally friendly, renewable energy source to generate sufficient heat to treat iron. Don’t you know there was a limited supply of dinosaurs? We are running out of the oil squeezed from their bodies after they died. There are only so many fossils, and we can’t keep up the supply of fossil fuels after all the fossils are exploited.

It’s a two-fold problem: limited fossils; deadly pollution. We will destroy the planet before all the fossils are gone. Not only do we have only eleven years to save the planet, there will soon be open warfare over the diminishing supply of fossils. Some fossil-rich nations will extort the fossil-poor nations, upsetting the proper balance of wealth and power; throttling the new world order established by Sen. McCain.

          The horror, the horror.

      • He did fire a warning shot. Directly at center of mass. Followed by him firing off a bunch of exclamation points at center mass so the bad guy would take him seriously.

So if it was a Glock 17 there was the one warning shot and at least 16 exclamation points. Looks something like this:

        BANG ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Of course, there are other models and configurations.

Or, use an actual American gun from a company that is not anti-American like Glock. Such as this one:

        BANG ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

    • Ok, let’s address you post one line at a time……..

“Why did the Jamaican have to shoot so many bullets?”
In some defensive shootings, the adrenaline rush causes the person whose life is threatened to “shoot until empty”. This is common, even in trained professionals and military personnel.

“Couldn’t he have just shot the gun out of the carjacker’s hand? Couldn’t the Jamaican have just wounded the carjacker in the arm, or leg?”
When a criminal has a firearm pointed at you, YOU ARE BEHIND the incident curve. Accurate shot placement takes time, which you DO NOT HAVE, the ONLY chance of survival is shooting “center mass” until threat is NEUTRALIZED (or empty if adrenaline has kicked in and taken over).

“I would stop after being shot just one time, any reasonable person would.”
There is NO guarantee what state of mind the criminal is in. Too bad criminals don’t tell their intended victims at what point they will end the deadly threat.
FYI, most criminals are NOT “reasonable people”.

“It is just common sense, settled science that shooting to kill is just plain mean.”
It’s also settled science that carjacking and pointing an AK-47 at a person is also “just plain mean”, and it can get you killed.
Lesson 1 here? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Lesson 2? Don’t start no shit, won’t be no shit.

      • “If you aim for moving arms & legs, good chance you’ll miss & then you’re dead.”

Thought this one had run out, because the gag got stale.

    • He tried to do everything you suggested. He even first tried to fire a warning shot. He really, really did, I swear!
Unfortunately for his forthcoming sleepless nights from the guilt of accidentally mortally wounding this poor soul who only wanted to send his kids to a better school, his pistol jammed on full auto, and the rest is history.

      • “… his pistol jammed on full auto, and the rest is history.”

Slight mistake there: the term is “full semi-automatic”. We need to be circumspect about these things.

  2. “So I emptied my Glock in his chest” That would be enough. Having an AK stuck in your face is certainly a reason to do that.

  3. Gee, what a shame about the AK guy. Think I’m going to listen to Bob Marley today and remember the heroic Jamacian mon on giving Thanks day.

    • No, he had the right vehicle.
The keys from the previous carjacking being in his pocket proves his intent.
This was his 2nd AK jacking of the night at a minimum. I wonder what other crimes he committed that evening/morning.
Walking around Maimi with an AK had him feeling like a badass, until he went and pointed it the the wrong person.

    • How many violent felonies had the criminal commited. Future: zero

This is why every law abiding citizen needs to be allowed a ccw or constitutional carry. It thins out the bad ones, fast.

    • I agree. There’s a lot of stuff there to make hay of if someone wants to- like the family of the carjacker or an overzealous prosecutor.

Don’t give an interview to the press and talk about how you “emptied” your glock into someone!!!

  4. Clearly, this is Fake News. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell already, ah, “proved” to us that you can’t stop someone with a rifle using a handgun because pistol bullets are too slow, and stuff.

(er, do I really need a sarcasm tag here?)

    • “(er, do I really need a sarcasm tag here?)”

Have been informed some here might need it.

But where’s the fun in that?

        • “Sam, are you referencing your post at the onset of the comments relative to sarcasm?”

The whole string is ridicule and joshing. A few others joined in. There are always obvious clues in the text, which eliminate the need for explanatory symbols.

        • “The whole string is ridicule and joshing. A few others joined in. There are always obvious clues in the text, which eliminate the need for explanatory symbols.”

This “clues in the text” garbage does the pro gun community a disservice when it is done on an open forum.
Those unfamiliar with TTAG can drop in and see a “Pro 2nd A” website with members discussing how they feel firearms are “cruel”, and victims are required to shoot guns out of criminals hands, and assorted other BS.
We have a difficult enough time keeping our limited 2nd A right without giving the “gun grabbers” fodder to be used against us.
If you are being sarc, identify it CLEARLY!
Be part of the solution, or part of the problem posters.

        • “This “clues in the text” garbage does the pro gun community a disservice when it is done on an open forum.”

It seems you haven’t been here too long. The anti-gun mafia will do, or not do, whatever pleases them regardless of what we do, or don’t do, on an “open forum. The need no “evidence” to justify accusations against gun owners.

You can take every jot and stroke seriously as you like, or you can read for understanding, and enjoy some of the playful levity and mischief that sometimes shows up here; your choice. Either way, it is good to have you here at TTAG.

      • Understood.
The story and the first 10 or so posts could be used by Moms Demand Action or Everytown for Gun Safety as a recruting doc FCS. The story and 10 comments (with the readily available demographics of TTAG posters, yeah those EASILY available for advertisers) could be dropped on a state reps desk to show a softening position on gun ownership, BY gun owners.
Ever wonder why the anti-2nd A websites and article replies aren’t full of hidden sarc? Because they understand it undermines their ultimate goal.
Hidden sarc is a cancer that can be used against gun owners.

        • “Hidden sarc is a cancer that can be used against gun owners”

Hey Einstein… If it makes you feel better, safer, whatever… I’ll go on record that my comments were sarcastic… Now.. Do you feel better that I’m on public record and have come clean?
          Happy Thanksgiving..

        • “Ever wonder why the anti-2nd A websites and article replies aren’t full of hidden sarc?”

Because gun-grabbers, leftists, and liberals have no sense of humor?

        • “Because gun-grabbers, leftists, and liberals have no sense of humor?”

Having had numerous discussions with anti 2nd A people, I can tell you that is not the case.
The left understands that humor and sarc can undermine their cause.
This is not rocket science people.

        • Full disclosure. Several people in the group I go to Ranger Baseball games with have been bombarded with so much leftist BS, they’ve fallen for the hype.
These are intelligent and funny people, just ill informed and a product of the lefts “higher education” system.
It’s taken some time, talks, and a few range session, but several have come around and actually purchased their first firearms.

  5. The video of him talking is great “I am from Kingston-town, im not gonna go out like a punk…”

Well OG, you def aint no punk.

  6. “This is why every law abiding citizen needs to be allowed a ccw or constitutional carry. It thins out the bad ones, fast.”
That is why ant-gunners want us disarmed. Satan’s minions would be decreasing at alarming rates if everyone were carrying. Have to protect those poor misguided thugs.

  7. Moms Demand demand that Mr. Steward should have quickly started an extreme risk swatting to take the unnamed robber’s scary gun away.
Wait a minute… victim strangers can’t initiate red flag orders…silly Mr. Steward.

  8. It’s Thanksgiving, mon. Crazy mon greet the nice mon with AK, and nice mon give crazy mon as much as he could…a warm ventilation with no hesitation coz bullet limitation is bad for situation! Ya mon!

  9. The gentleman who defended himself should exercise his right to remain silent. An overzealous district attorney will enjoy putting all those comments on poster board for the trial.
