First Impressions: 5.11 RUSH MOAB 8 Woodland Sling Pack

The Woodland Camo pattern holds a special place in my heart.

It was the pattern issued to me during my time in the Marine Corps, and every time I see it, it brings back memories of early morning formations, the smell of diesel fuel in the air, and the camaraderie of some of the best guys I’ve ever known.

The Woodland Camo pattern of this sling pack makes me feel that connection every time I sling it over my shoulder.

It’s not just a bag—it’s a connection to my past.

Design & Features

The RUSH MOAB 8 is built tough, like everything 5.11 puts out. This 13L sling pack is compact yet versatile, making it a perfect EDC bag, range pack, or go-bag. It’s got:

  • Durable 1050D Nylon Construction – Tough enough for real-world use.
  • Ambidextrous Sling Design – Comfortable for left- or right-side carry.
  • CCW Compartment – Quick access to your essentials.
  • MOLLE Webbing – Expandable for added gear.
  • Multiple Pockets & Organization – Keeps everything squared away.

Why This Pack Stands Out

The Woodland Camo pattern isn’t just about looks—it’s about legacy.

Whether you’re like me and it takes you back to your military days, or you just appreciate a time-tested camo that blends into the woods, this pack combines classic, no-nonsense utility with a modern 5.11 twist.

To add to the nostalgia, my CAR-15-Ish clone, rope for a hasty Swiss seat, and two carabiners I used in the Marine Corps are pictured.

Final Thoughts

For me, this pack is more than just gear—it’s a daily carry that keeps me motivated and connected to my roots.

Whether you’re looking for a compact tactical sling bag or just love Woodland Camo, the RUSH MOAB 8 delivers.

  1. My unknown brand camo bag bit the dust, it was free with something I bought. I replaced it with a nice bag a relative got free from Golf Magazine, says Golf Magazine on the bag. My bag is full of stuff I need and might need so contents are pretty rough on the stitching…FORE.

  2. Everyone’s uniforms look the same after they waller around in the mud.
That’s why my proprietary Mud camouflage is so popular.

  3. I have a 5.11 Rush24 backpack (original version) that I bought used years ago. The thing has been through the worst and still keeps on ticking. I’d guess their sling pack could handle the same.

That said, if you’re looking for a slightly less ‘tactical’ (i.e., not covered in molle) sling bag, I’d recommend the U.S. Peacekeeper sling bag. I’ve been pretty happy with mine the last 2 years. It’s not built to “go-to-war” but works perfect when taking the kids to the park, coffee shop with the spouse, or a walk with the family. All without screaming, “EVERYONE LOOK AT ME!” Huge downside is that it’s made in China.

  4. To their credit, 5.11 has been moving production of many/new items out of chicomland (though impossible to know if such factories may be chicom).

This pack is one of their items made in Vietnam (which I can live with).

    • Seems to me the stuff made in Vietnam is of better quality then the stuff made in China.
I’m still confused though how America is (supposedly) against communism yet we continue to support communism.
