Senator Diane Feinstein introduced her long-awaited “assault weapons” ban bill today, which she said would outlaw features like bumpfire stocks, bullet buttons, detachable magazines and any gun with at least one (in her words) “military characteristic.” Claiming that hunting and sporting shooters would be protected, she said that her bill lists 2,200 approved guns by name and model. But DiFi didn’t hog the spotlight. She then introduced everyone’s favorite civilian disarmament advocate, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy who pledged, “with all my heart and soul” to take a “holistic approach” to reducing Americans’ Second Amendment rights. While pledging to save “thousands and thousands of lives” she didn’t address how many would be lost by making armed self defense more difficult and impinging law abiding citizens’ right to keep and bear arms . . .

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin made the point that the Newtown killer used a semi-automatic he had no right to own. The fact that Adam Lanza didn’t own the guns he used apparently escaped his notice. He then appealed to the Elmer Fudd hunters out there to repudiate the NRA and other gun rights advocates to help Democrats in Congress pass their civilian disarmament agenda. It’s clear from the presentation of the gun-grabbing hall-of-famers in today’s presentation that they’ve made the determination that to get what they want, peeling off hunters from the rest of America’s gun owners is their best strategy.

Chuck Schumer drove home the point that “there’s no right to use 100 round clips in assault rifles” and called DiFi’s bill a collection of “reasonable limitations.” His only intent in supporting the bill, he professed, is to “spare the heartache and loss” seen in shootings around the country. It’s comforting to know we have people like Chuck Schumer in Washington working for our collective welfare.

The oleaginlous Richard Blumenthal, Senator from Connecticut, then took the opportunity to show that he’s part of the effort to “end gun violence in America.” He then thanked the assembled members of law enforcement without whom, as Schumer said, their gun control measure is a non-starter. His most nauseating statement: the children and teachers of Newtown might be alive today if Feinstein’s bill were law.

Connecticut’s other Senator, Christopher Murphy, mad the point that Adam Lanza was given a false sense of power by the video games he played that, apparently, prompted him to embark on his shooting spree. Murphy then made sure to work into his speech the names of every Sandy Hook child who died in Newtown.

And what anti-gun extravaganza would be complete without Rep. Ed Perlmutter whose district includes Columbine and Aurora? He asked what we’ve become when firefighters have to wear bullet-proof vests to do their job before ending with a quote from Martin Luther King. A gun owner.

Newtown’s Congressional representative, Carolyn Esty said that Newtown paid the price for political inaction and that we can’t allow the loss of those lives to without action. She then expressed her pride in joining Representatives McCarthy and Perlmutter in co-sponsoring the disarmament bill in the House. She then announced, in Kennedy-esque tones, that the horror of Newtown was America’s call to action.

Finally it was time to trot out some big city police chiefs to give the civilian disarmament effort a law and order imprimatur. Philly police commissioner Charles Ramsey wowed the assembled media and background props, taking them on a tour of a pegboard with an array of particularly menacing “military-style” rifles. His challenge while pointing to the gun: “Tell me why any of that needs to be on the streets of our cities. If you can tell me that, I’ll listen to you.”

Next up in the shameless dog and pony show was the parade of victims pledging their fealty and support for the AWB. Each pointed out how a “high capacity magazine clip” or assault rifle affected them or someone they love. DiFi dutifully stood close by to make sure that microphones were pointed optimally to pick up their words and occasional sobs.

Finally, Senator Feinstein made sure to point out that they’ve done their best to craft a responsible gun control bill. She made the point, however, that they face an uphill climb to get it passed and appealed to Americans to contact their representatives to enact it into law.

      • In Soviet America, you give blowjob to Senator. Where is your god now?

Also, typing the tags for bold/italics/etc is remarkably tedious on mobile devices.

        • Now you know how dedicated I am, because probably half my posts come from mobile, and you’ve seen how often I use bold, italics, and hyperlinks. It’s tedious, but I’m pretty good at it by now.

      • Hal. OMG Hal. WTF Hal. Seriously. Hal. Difi and a BJ in the same comment. That is just so nasty. If I wake up screaming in the middle of the night it’s all your fault. Dude, that is just so messed up.

  1. Even though the bill is likely dead before it hits the floor I just left a message with my two US Senators and congressman telling them to oppose this.

  2. Clearly she’s been spending time with Leland “Goatfscker” Yee as I see his fingerprints all over the Bullet Button mention. It’s just driving him up the wall that so many CA residents peacefully and lawfully own and shoot AR-class rifles using Bullet Buttons to work around his idiotic law.

    • I finally figured out where Yee is coming from by watching his performance on Stossel’s show. He is a psychologist who had a long vareer in the school system. Ever meet a school psychologist? These are the people who thought up the idea pf banning finger guns and cops and robbers, and who believe that if a child draws a picture of a gun, evil is afoot.

    • Both Feinstein and McCarthy have give the “shoot from the hip” explanation for why a vertical grip behind the trigger is a military feature. It’s the opposite of the truth, really. A field stock is better for hip shooting with a light caliber. Not one “mass” shooter has gone prone or fired blind around/over barriers, the situations for which pistol grips were designed, in addition to allowing better control placement on an auto weapon. As for shooting from the hip, that’s just the best instant response to an ambush for someone with a full-auto weapon, not a shooting style suitable for the ambush perpetrator or criminal.

  3. While they’re passing bills to protect us stoopid people from ourselves, they should pass a bill protecting us from their moronic legislation. I say we pass a bill banning politicians from doing anything besides showing up and entertaining us on CSPAN.

    • There is already a law. It is called voting. We can all scream using our keyboards or we can all wake up and realize that you must get involved in the government process and not allow these a$$hats to be elected in the first place. Or, elect enough people who support the 2a that these people are toothless.

What we have seen is elections are not just local, they are all national.

We need to have our own 2a PAC’s that will look at campaigns from coast to coast and support candidates we want.

we have a lot of big talk around these parts, but we all need a lot more action. And, emailing your congress critter is not nearly enough.

Its painfull, it uses up time but we can longer be lazy, get, standup and fight.

      • I agree but clearly the majority has been voting for these asshats. My friends, family and I have always voted and supported the more tolerable choice in politicians. I just think we’ve reached a tipping point in our nation where we’re slowly becoming the minority. I’m not giving up or saying it’s a lost cause but it sure ain’t getting easier.

      • Voting does not work anymore. You just replace one criminal asshat with another potentially worse criminal asshat. May I remind you of the SINGLE DIGIT Congressional approval rating, yet only around 10% of incumbents were voted out?

        • For better or worse we can only vote for congressmembers in our districts. Meaning we can’t do a damn thing (as a single voter) about 99.5% (532/535) of them. In their home district incumbents generally have a majority approval rating.

      • Let’s not forget that money talks.

When you get someone willing to stand up for your rights, send him or her some money. Make your vote count the old fashioned way.

BTW, I was a the Harrisburg PA 2nd Amendment march yesterday (it was COLD) where we had a fair number of legislators stand up and make speeches for our cause. There are some good leaders still out there. For a sampling:

Rep. Metcalfe also introduced his Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:

        • Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.

        • Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.

Feel free to send them a thank you, I did.

        • Thanks for bringing this up. I’ll definitely call and thank him. Damn sight better than Bob Casey…

          v/r
          Badger 8-3

      • I agree. But don’t forget what happened to machine guns. They rigged that vote entirely And don’t forget what’s happening to FOPA ymthe millitary is creating gun registries, several states have Firearm purchaser cards, and Obama passed an executive order to register the border states guns.

        • Where is that executive order? I live in a border state and we do not register firearms. Well, the 4473 is a form of registration. The only thing I know of that happened in the four Southwest border states is that FFLs are required to report long gun sales of over 1 a month. It is an ATF law passing for regulation, not an Executive order. I thought only Congress could pass laws? It’s funny how this regulation doesn’t apply to the Northern border. Is there some difference between the culture in the country to the North and the Country to the South?

    • There is already legislation protecting us from their moronic legislation. They take an oath of office. Violating that oath is grounds for impeachment. We the people are just to lazy to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

    • Not sure who Dick Durbin is but given that statement you could have left it on a first name basis and made a point. Just sayin.

      • When I hear people that don’t know who Dick Durbin or other up-front anti-rights people are, I realize that the number of people not paying attention is much higher than I expected.

        • Sorry Theaton but I dont have cable nor do I waste money on newspapers. I know who DiFi and Mcarthy are and the front runners in Connecticut as well as Bloomberg. But until this article and its addendum since my original post, never heard of Dick. Forgive me for not paying 100% attention to every single name. I have never seen his before, not anywhere.

        • I realize that I was pretty harsh. I have television but don’t watch broadcast news. I’m just concerned that we have many more people to wake up than I expected.

      • Dicky “The Turbin” Durbin, is, unfortunately, one of my senators. This reply from his turdness will tell you all you need to know about him:

Thank you for contacting me about gun control measures in light of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. I appreciate hearing from you.

I share with all Americans a profound sense of sorrow at the senseless act of violence committed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The nation mourns this event and many Americans wonder what can be done to prevent this type of tragedy in the future.

I am an original cosponsor of the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act, which would reinstate a ban on magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban on multi-round magazines expired along with the federal assault weapons ban in 2004.

The majority of Americans and the majority of thoughtful gun owners and hunters agree that there must be reasonable limits on gun ownership and weapons. We must institute common-sense limits, such as barring those with a history of mental instability, those with a history of violent crime or who are subject to restraining orders, and those whose names have been placed on a terrorist watch list from owning weapons. “Straw” purchasers and gun dealers should face firm penalties. There should be limits on how many firearms may be purchased in one month. Those who own firearms that are within the reach of children should have protective locks on their weapons.

The United States Supreme Court has raised questions about the Second Amendment and the protections and responsibilities under this Constitutional amendment. I plan to hold a Senate Judiciary Hearing in the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights Subcommittee to address this Constitutional question and how to forward on gun control.

My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Newtown, Connecticut, as we remember the children and teachers who lost their lives.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to keep in touch.

        Sincerely,
        Richard J. Durbin
        United States Senator

        • Sadly Dick Durbin is also my senator. He still claims an AR-15 was used at Sandy Hook. We now know that isn’t true, but he still claims one was used. What a great “leader”.

  4. I watched Dick Durbin for about a minute and wanted to vomit… right after the … yes we want to get the hunters and sportsman to speak out … its a great tradition.

    Give me a blank break.

  5. Whelp, there goes my intention of buying a slidefire stock…wont be able to find one for 3 years/ones you can find will be at a 500% mark up.

  6. I would like to know how in the hell I am supposed to shoot a 3 gun competition without an AR or with a shotgun that onlyholds 3 rounds, or with only 10 rounds in my pistol. These people are disgusting with their attemps to trample the constitution.

  7. I tuned in just in time to see Dick Durbin say, “… if it can save a life…”

I turned it off. I can read the recap without the tearjerking later.

  8. My sweet-innocent-baby lever-action rifle, based on the capacity of the tube magazine (11+ cartridges), is now defined as an assault weapon and thus illegal in New York. I stand in support of all 2A rights of AR/AK high-capacity owners.

    • Technically, NY doesn’t call it an AW, but you’ve got yourself a “hi capacity ammunition feeding device.” This is making our ears bleed.

      • Correct. ‘Assault rifle’ has a specific meaning, “assault weapon” is a political term.

It means one thing in NY, another in CT, another in CO… you get the picture. It’s a completely meaningless term.

  9. While pledging to save “thousands and thousands of lives”

    LMAO

The mendaciousness of these scum never ceases to amaze me. Obama using kids as props and uttering the old ‘if it only saves one child’ crap, plus the daily deluge of nonsensical garbage from the left. It’s like they’ve become a parody of themselves.

  10. Is it wrong for me to hope old horseface gets a debiliating disease and dies slowly, in agony, and that I get to watch it through the media? It feels wrong but yet so right.

I’d love for someone to calcuate the return on investment of what she proposes…I mean we only have so many resources.

If someone gave you several million dollars and told you to use it to impove society, would you run out and buy back modern sporting rifles and clips over 10 rounds and destroy them? Is that the best use of the money…will it get you the most improvement in society? That’s what we’re talking about…even if you calculate the number of “saved” lives from the back of your unicorn, no more than 500 people could have been saved in the past 10-15 years from mass murder with a firearm. To enforce what she proposes over the same time frame you are talking several billions in gov’t funds, 100’s of millions in lost firearm related business generation, and mess of other negatives I can’t even think up. If that same money were spent elsewhere over that time period I know we could get better than 500 “saves” maybe even improve society some as a whole. There really needs to be more accountability in what these legislatures can work on and throw up for consideration. You can’t pull this kind of stupidity in a business what give them the right to burn my tax dollars?

    • Bob if she dies slowly it just means we will be stuck with her for at least another decade. Something quick would be better

    • Your fighting with logic and these people are fighting with emotions and crocodile tears. Its like women who cry to get out a speeding ticket.

You have to talk about how many people who will be lost unable to defend themselves. We have to talk about how the police take 20min or more to get to a scene and there is no law that says they can guarantee your safety. That most state who have an emergency plan, that plan first and foremost is designed to first save the government, and then the people.

Use vision and emotions, logic has been lost until they try to fight with logic and then they will loose.

The reason the far left love Apple and Al Gore is on the board and the reason they love hollywood is because they know that via PR, emotions and hollywood make believe, they can will the stupid who do not bother to think.

What we have lost in this country is the ability to think critically and ask questions and have required accountability.

  11. My personal theory is that McCarthy’s husband jumped up into Colin Ferguson’s line of fire to get away from the b—-. Can’t prove it, but that’s my theory.

  12. To the past nasty comments regarding people in NY ” deserving” what they got. Hate to say it, but everyone…the whole country is in for the same rediculous rules and bans we just passed here. Shit slides down hill…Get ready. Its just the nasty truth and NO ONE can deny it.

    • I’m with you. We have faced the same thing here in Illinois, and our neighbors in Wisconsin have too. But, we have kept up the fight, and now both Illinois and Wisconsin will have a CC law. The law is on our side. We are in the right, and we must fight everywhere. The good people of NY and CA and MA don’t deserve to have their rights denied. They do have to keep up the fight, and we have to help them, not desert them.

  13. They are psychopaths with an agenda. We must not start moralizing with them, because they have no morals. The moment we start moralizing with them we’ve already lost the battle.

  14. Can’t believe I read this via lame stream media CBS news…

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57565637/lawmakers-unveil-bill-to-ban-assault-weapons/

Blah blah blah..here’s the good part:

Ultimately, however, these details are not likely not to matter all that much. That’s because there is little chance that the legislation will get through Congress.

Start with the Senate: Democrats control 55 out of 100 votes, and barring a more-significant-than-expected change to the filibuster rule, supporters of the gun control measure would need all of those votes — plus five Republican votes — to pass the bill. Those votes don’t appear to be there. There is only one Republican in the Senate – Mark Kirk of Illinois – who supports an assault weapons ban. One Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, told the New York Times of an assault weapons ban this week, “I’m not there,” and at least four other Democrats have declined to take a position. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada has vacillated on even holding a vote on an assault weapons ban, presumably out of concern that the vote could damage vulnerable Democrats ahead of the 2014 election.

The odds are even worse in the GOP-led House, where only one Republican, Peter King of New York, has said he supports an assault weapons ban. That’s fewer than the number of House Republicans who have raised the prospect of impeaching President Obama over his gun control efforts. (They are Steve Stockman and Louie Gohmert of Texas and Trey Radel of Florida.) House Speaker John Boehner, who could choose to simply not bring the bill up for a vote, said Tuesday that an assault weapons ban would give people “a false sense of security.” In both chambers, the National Rifle Association has flexed its lobbying muscle in an effort to keep wavering pro-gun lawmakers from breaking ranks.

    • A small part of me thinks this is a ploy by the left leaning media to lull the gun owners into a state of mind that the fight is won, when in reality it is just starting. But Im still constructing my tinfoil hat. So it could just be me.

    • Thanks PK…. Can I hold you to that?… I don’t mean to go all “FUD” but after this last election I’m thinking that anything is possible…

  15. I just wanted to say sorry to everyone for my Senator Dick Durbin, or as I like to think of him — I don’t care what my Constituent want, I know better Senator. I will do everything in my power to get him un-elected in 2014.

    • Good luck with that. We have made much progress in Illinois. But dethroning King Dick Turbin will be neigh on impossible.

  16. All should be tried for treason. Seeking to destroy a Constitutional amendment and endangering the lives of thousands of Americans equates to nothing less than that. These sub-humans are worse threat to this nation than any external force has ever been.

  17. Out of curiousity, will we lose the U.S. Olympic shooting teams (at least in as far as rifle events)? Don’t the Anschutz rifles have an evil “Thombhole” stock?

  18. I am still have this god-awful feeling that something will happen (in the politics of this whole thing) and it will go through. I pray that it does not. But Congress and it’s famous back-room deals..still worries me. And they will NEVER stop trying.
The anti-gun crowd really makes me sick to my stomach. They want everyone’s safety compromised and control of those who they see as below them.. Truly an ignorant crowd if there ever was one.

  19. Write and call your reps people. Blow up their phone lines. If they are pro-2A they need to know that “compromise” is unacceptable. If they are anti they need to know that some of their constituents are not in favor of infringing on the 2nd amendment.

    • Just did that. Calling, not emailing carries more weight. Also get your wives/girlfriend(s)/both to call. I believe a woman’s opinion on this also carries more weight when talking to our Legislators.

Then call again next week. Make it part of your schedule. I usually make these calls on Monday. Don’t forget the Speaker of the House, etc.

  20. “One Military Characteristic” Yeah like those super damage enhancing bayonet mounts or the uranium tipped, super explosive pistol grips. Maybe next they will say the black color is a military characteristic because we all know that black weapons are far more dangerous than those not so scary wood stock weapons.

  21. The one thing that struck me was the comment about being able to fill a shopping cart with ammunition. I would like to visit that store, around here the shelves are bare.

  22. I find the website http://www.congress.org to be the easiest way to send
correspondence to government officials. It sends your message to all the right officials based on your zip code.

Send a personal message to all of your Federal Officials using a single form:

Send a personal message to all of yourState Officials using a single form:

    • Today’s version of my daily unique letter to state and federal officials:

“I am against Feinstein’s AWB Bill.

I am against any new bans on particular firearm types, features, or magazines.

This bill also limits the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families. By restricting what law abiding citizens can use for self-defense beyond that which the average street thug will use to threaten us, you are essentially helping criminals and hurting the innocent.

Such a bill would also criminalize millions of law abiding Americans based on the trivialities of particular gun features and action types.

This is ignorant and opportunistic policy. The long stated goal of the sponsors of this bill and the groups in favor of it is civilian disarmament. Invoking the tragedy in CT to move toward this stated goal is disgusting.

I hope you will have the courage to uphold the constitution and stand on the side of law abiding Americans who value their gun rights.

On this issue I am a one-issue voter. On this issue I become politically active and will campaign and donate money toward defeating any candidate in the future who would support such a bill.”

  23. I think the next logical step is to let pre-teen’s write our traffic laws

I’m off to the florist for dental advice

  24. “Newtown paid the price for political innaction??!” The politicians are the ones who turned the school into a “soft target” in the first place. WTF is wrong with these people?

  25. Is this a great country or what? I’ve got a dyslexic LPN, nursing (PI) a personal vendetta against a mad Jamaican NYC resident (who bought his gun in CA), proposing to remake the Constitution for the rest of us “fly overs.” I’ve got very rich California city folks with bodyguards telling me what would suffice to defend my non-urban home on a budget. The mayor of NYC is turning Manhattan into a safe surveillance-state office park for the rich so that they can rake in the nation’s banking fees while buying their coke in complete safety before they retreat to their 11,000 sq. ft. no-surveillance condos and Hampton estates. And he thinks that’s how I should live, too. Four grotesquely over-populated water-side cities with massive income inequality think we should change the Constitution for their convenience? Well, of course they do.

  26. Makes me absolutely sick and enraged. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my short time on this planet it’s if someone is telling you not to do something, the chance that person is doing the exact thing they told you not to do is extremely high. I can’t stand damn hypocrites.

  27. Here is my response from Turbin Durbin regarding a gun control letter I sent him…

    Useless…

    “Dear Mr. JJ:

  28. This bill is not about “military style” anything. It’s about getting their foot in the door to ban all guns. I understand the fallacy of a “slippery slope” argument, but these people will never stop trying to ban ALL guns.

  30. I’ve mentioned this before, but let’s make it official: before they’re done, a TRIGGER will be deemed a “military feature”.

    And don’t forget the sights.

It’s my understanding the Wicked Witch’s bill bans VIRTUALLY ALL FIREARMS. The rest, they can come for later. Like in Oz.

  31. My voice to congress…

In their great wisdom, our fore-bearers knew, in ways we cannot, the dangers of government. As a result, they constructed ten great and sacred barriers to protect the populace of this great country from that possible threat. These great barriers, the bill of rights, stand as the foremost “checks and balances” in the hands of the citizenry of the people of the United States against the a would-be hostile government.

The Bill of Rights, our first ten amendments to the constitution, stand not against the British or their threat, but against the very men that drafted it, and those that have hence inherited those privileged roles of President, Congressman, Senator and others.

As a result, actions which seek to limit the power of the people by breaking down these great government-limiting powers, by those very individuals for which these sacred barriers stand against are of a supreme assault against the citizenry of the United States.

Therefore, I am writing you to keep your oath, defend the constitution, and do more to protect our children than you dare dream – oppose all gun control. More children have die at the hands of governments than at the hands of mad-men with firearms.

  32. Frak, lets vote them out, am so sick of this, they are just slowly trying to ruin our country. Our families are more important then they are.

    • Good luck with that. The only way you are getting her wrinkled saggy ass out of her senate seat is with a block of C4.

Hey, wait a minute, I just had an idea!

      • I think you’d better save any C4 you have handy for dealing with your state legislature first, since IL is bound to take another run at matching NY in anti-gun legislation soon.

  33. Now its clear….I cant find any ARs because Feinstein purchased them to use as her backdrop during her presser. Bitch!

  34. This makes me want to set up a lawn chair & just watch the circus go by, if it wasn’t 7 degrees that is, Randy

  35. One characteristic that makes it like a military weapon is that it fires a round, so that one restriction eliminates all firearms. Period.
Completely against the reasons behind the second amendment, which, by the way, is only one sentence long. How hard can it be to understand?

    “…SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.”

  36. The bitch is after the mags, the bitch is after the mags, the bitch is after the mags.
This is everything they could hope for at this time, and they know it. The semiautomatic rifles are the next step after another tragedy occurs and they get fresh blood to dip their shirts in. It will be a long (or not so long) step by step process. The banning of the semiauto/magazine interface is the key move in removing the teeth of the 2nd amendment.

  37. Ladies, ladies, ladies (and I use the term loosely), you keep telling us that people have no right to 100 round clips or certain stocks, or certain features on our guns, please cite the relevant constitutional reference. The only one I can find on the topic actually says you have no right to make such decisions.
I have to wonder, when the autistic or PTSD afflicted democratic voter shows up at the polls to vote, would you disqualify them from participating, claiming that no right is absolute? After all, the vote should be based on intelligent thought, not emotional appeals. Worse, the constitution actually allows for some forms of discrimination with regards to access to the vote, none are given regarding the right to keep and bear arms. If you see fit to twist the constitution at every turn, it would seem that you are the problem, and have no solutions. I would encourage you to actually read the words you uttered upon your swearing in, ponder them, and then tender your resignations.
