Crime continued to decline in the first half of 2019, according to new preliminary data published by the FBI. Violent crimes dropped by 3.1 percent compared to January-June 2018 and property crime fell by 5.6 percent. Looking at violent crimes, the decline was seen in every region and follows decreases in 2018 and 2017.

As states across the country begin their legislative sessions, gun control advocates are once again fighting to ban modern sporting rifles and generally restrict the Second Amendment rights of Americans. While these advocates will use emotional pleas to argue for their irrational policies that would do nothing to help prevent the criminal misuse of firearms, we would point to the facts.

Through 2016, there have been over 17.7 million modern sporting rifles in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Meanwhile, violent crime is declining. The message is clear. Tragic criminal actions must be addressed. Banning certain types of firearms is not the answer.

Real SolutionsSM

The firearms and ammunition industry shares the goal of finding the root causes of criminal violence and has created programs over the years to help address safety practices and problems of unauthorized access. The firearms and ammunition industry prides itself on high rates of compliance and on our voluntary programs, often in partnership with local, state and federal government agencies, to help curtail the actual problems of guns illegally getting into the wrong hands.

We work to make sure states are submitting all prohibiting records to NICS. We provide millions of free gun locks and educational materials in all states. We train our members to spot straw purchasers, to comply with all laws, and to use discretion when making transactions and keeping their inventory secure. We work with the Defense Department, Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to help address the crisis of suicides in our country. In short, it is time for Real Solutions. Safer Communities.SM to help continue the trend of declining violence in our country.

  1. wow your link for “real solutions” is tossing major red flags as a scam site…not joking here, its got security issues it seems

“Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to http://www.nssfrealsolutions.org. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.”

    just for info

    • I use Firefox and it didn’t detect anything. Many times that warning is due to an expired security certificate or improperly configured website. Hardly anything to get your panties in a knot over. What’s more important is to recognize what the security issue is. If there is a real threat, any decent anti-virus software would terminate the connection. Mine does, NOD32 from Eset.
      Not joking here!

      • either or or even a ‘google it’ and still tosses red flags

Really? you don’t think I did not test it at least 3 different ways…sheeesh

    • The problem appears to be that the site’s security certificate is an RSA encryption public key signed by GlobalSign (a well known encryption authority) but somehow the key presented to browsers has their signing name listed as “GlobalSign RSV.” The key itself is good, but the name doesn’t match so more security sensitive browsers (i.e. not Chrome, Safari or Edge) reject it instead of ignoring the name entirely and just following the cryptographic hash. Simply put, someone messed up real bad by not checking what they put into the server configuration, but the resulting error would be both useless to a hacker and too obvious to be the work of a sinister group of leftist agents.

    • “modern sporting rifles”…is that what they’re calling them now?….seems like as much of a misnomer as “assault rifles”….whatever happened to fancy wood and polished, blued steel?…

      • Each to their own. I have wood stocks and blued, or phosphated, or even enamel painted metal on my service rifles. My scoped rifles tend to vary. One is blued receiver, mat black painted barrel, and synthetic stock. The other has phosphated metal and gray laminate stock. My prospective scoped rimfire is the Ruger Precision Rimfire.

  2. “Violent Crime Continues to Fall While Legislatures Move to Ban ‘Assault Weapons’

    Un Constitutionally one might add.

      • Dang right. Trump’s heroism in ‘Nam, coupled with the fact he’s a morally upstanding self made man, make him worthy of our collective awe, deference and respect. MAGA for 1,000 year reign!!!

      • Only good reason to vote for him last election was the published list of judges he might appoint, to worthless Mitch, keep holding hearings and fill the vacant judicial spots, flood the courts with originalist candidates.

  3. so it appears it was going down going down going down and then…obama came in…and then… it started going up again…and then trump came in and its now going back down again…ok got it…
just so yall know that big jump in msrs from 2015 to 2016…that was me…

  4. So its not really about Gun Control at all…its totally about population control, the elite billion aires are afraid they will loose their billions if they dont take away our guns to defend ourselves against their radical agenda….DON’T EVER BOW TO GUN CONTROL..DONT GIVE IN TO THE ELITISTS AND THEIR DESIRED TO DISARM THE POPULATION !!!

  5. And here is the scary part: almost all (like at least 90% or so) violent crime happens in urban areas that Progressives have governed for decades — the very same areas where Progressives are more-and-more lenient on repeat offenders. Imagine how much lower the crime rates would be if those Progressive governed urban areas actually locked away repeat violent crime offenders?!?!?!?

    • Very true. Even in the most dangerous neighborhoods, the trouble is caused by a few, violent individuals. Put them behind bars where they have no one to prey upon but each other.

  6. No one cares about the safety of the peasants, you’re disposable. They care about their own safety. When you figure out what’s coming, you’re going to have a twitchy trigger finger. There’s going to be a large, jagged, bitter pill to swallow and rejecting it can’t be an option.

  7. Under Obama gun prices were high and inventory was low, and there was no federal gun legislation in 8 years.

Under Trump gun prices are low and inventory is high, and our precious bumpstocks were banned within the first two years.

  8. Violent crime is not dropping, it is being reported incorrectly by large democratic run cities to play the narrative they want to enact more gun control laws on the people who are most unlikely to use their weapon for nefarious reasons.

Let’s be a honest cynic: maybe the reason violent crime is dropping because more people are carrying concealed and the criminals are taking a hint?

Both ways indicate no further laws are needed.

    • One would think that Dems would report MORE crime, to justify more gun control.
SOI think your theory is full of holes…! (pun intended!)
ALSO… go to the FBI and read the Data yourself.
VIOLENT CRIME IS Dropping! More knives are being used than rifles to kill people.
