Taxi ad (courtesy act.everytown.org)

TTAG reader Eric sent us an email blast from the doyennes of disarmament at Everytown for Gun Safety. [Make the jump for the text.] The email links to a petition [here] calling for President Obama to abandon legislative efforts at gun control in favor of unspecified executive actions. [Eric: “Interesting. I just got another email from Everytown thanking me for signing that petition. I didn’t sign it.] The petition’s penned by one Erica Lafferty, Chief Bloody Shirt Waver Survivor Engagement Manager, Everytown for Gun Safety. Everytown is “planning to put up (Take Executive Action) ads in 3,000 taxis across D.C. to make sure (the President) hears our message loud and clear.” I wonder if President Obama looks at taxis when he’s swanning about town in his limo . . .

It’s been almost three years since my mother was shot and killed. She was the principal of Sandy Hook School, gunned down along with 25 others on December 14, 2012.

Sandy Hook was one of the most devastating shootings in our nation’s history, and I was appalled when Congress failed to act. That’s why I’m asking President Obama to step up and not let this anniversary go by without action on gun violence.
The President has the power to make a real difference without waiting on Congress, but he needs to hear from people like you to know he has the support for these major steps.

Automatically sign the petition calling on President Obama to take executive action to strengthen gun laws, close deadly loopholes, and save American lives.

Tell President Obama: Take Action

President Obama has gone to too many funerals, he’s called too many families, he’s recounted too many horrors. Enough is enough.
The President has the power to crack down on high-volume gun sellers and make them conduct background checks. He can close loopholes to keep guns away from domestic abusers. He can strengthen laws to keep guns away from schools, the places where our children learn and play. But he’s running out of time.

President Obama has said that congressional inaction on gun violence is the biggest disappointment of his presidency. But HE can act.

Sign the petition to the President and ask him to take executive action on gun violence before the Sandy Hook anniversary on December 14.
Thanks for lending your voice. It means so much to me.

    • She needs help, I believe she is suffering from Histrionic Personality Disorder.

“Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention seeking behavior and extreme emotionality. Someone with histrionic personality disorder wants to be the center of attention in any group of people, and feel uncomfortable when they are not. While often lively, interesting and sometimes dramatic, they have difficulty when people aren’t focused exclusively on them. People with this disorder may be perceived as being shallow, and may engage in sexually seductive or provocative behavior to draw attention to themselves.”

  1. So ironic that the anti’s are against The Bill of Rights 2nd Amendment and are even willing to encourage abuse of power it was meant to protect us from. Anybody else here read Orwells “Animal Farm?”

    • The problem is they all read not as the warning it was intended to be but instead are trying to use it as an instruction manual.

      • You’ve noticed this too?

Of course Orwell was a communist, so maybe it really is an instruction manual and we just thought it was suppose to be a warning!

    • When I was in school, it was required reading. Having read it, and then seen it as I traveled in former Communist Bloc countries, I deeply believe it should be required still. We now have a large voting block of people too young to now first hand the evils of the Stalin’s purges, Kristallnacht, Tiananmen Square, East Germany, Pol Pot, et al. As a result, they think when we rail against socialism/communism, we’re just obsessed with the likes of the North Koreans (as if their smallness makes their evil less evil). History. It’s something our educational system is even worst at teaching than math.

      • The whitewashing of communism in public schools is proactive and very deliberate, as is the effort to undermine the status of the Constitution. This isn’t simple incompetence.

        • Depending on your definition of “communist”, it’s arguable that no country has been communist yet. But somehow every country that tries to get there winds up being some kind of oligarchy or dictatorship, family-based or otherwise.

        • Communism is just a way for a few to take control and abuse their power. And all in the name of helping the people. The Communist system never works out in real life like it does in theory. Need a few people to keep the masses under control. Need to have lots of spies to tell the authorities when someone steps out of line. Need to have a cadre of people to keep the economy in line. They never do a good job with this part no matter how hard they try. The only way that Communist China was able to move forward was to inject some Capitalist reforms into their system. Communism is such a bad joke I am surprised that anyone buys into it anymore.

      • “it was required reading. Having read it, and then seen it as I traveled in former Communist Bloc countries, I deeply believe it should be required still.”

Are you kidding? Today’s students can’t read anything that isn’t 40 characters or less.

And even if they did read it they wouldn’t understand it at all. I’m not kidding, at least with the kids I am seeing around lately. And Animal Farm is a very easy read, could you imagine asking them to get through Atlas Shurgged and get something useful out of it?

  2. President Obama …… “He can strengthen laws to keep guns away from schools, the places where our children learn and play. But he’s running out of time.”

Erica Laffer ty, do you know anything about the separation of powers and how the 3 branches work? No well neither does King B. Hussein Obama so apparently you’re equally qualified to be the POTUS..

  3. EO to keep guns away from schools? So you mean if Obama had just magically signed an EO to keep guns away from schools Sandy Hook never would have happened? Too bad that place wasn’t a gun free zone already.

  4. Are these people so stupid as to believe that the criminals are going to give up their weapons? Enforce the laws we already have…….that would remove the dangerous weapons from people who are not supposed to have them.

    • “Are these people so stupid as to believe that the criminals are going to give up their weapons?”

No, they are not. They know these actions will no affect the ability of criminals to obtain weapons.

  5. “The President has the power to crack down on high-volume gun sellers and make them conduct background checks.” FFL are already required to do background checks and they do. Who are these high-volume sellers who are not FFL’s?

“He can close loopholes to keep guns away from domestic abusers.” Again, already against the law to sell to someone with a restraining order out against them. That will show in the background check FFL’s are already doing, and restraining orders are surprisingly easy to get.

“He can strengthen laws to keep guns away from schools, the places where our children learn and play.” Odd, a lot of schools are trying to get their teachers and staff to arm themselves. Not to mention I’ve never heard of a school shooting by a licenses CHL. Not to mention, those no-guns signs have for some surprising reason never worked well in the past to deter criminals (I don’t know, do you think, maybe, criminals ignore no-gun signs? or maybe they ignore the law, but target the the places with no-gun signs?).

Everytown’s arguments seem to be stuck in the past. The least they could do is update their propaganda, or maybe I should be glad that they don’t.
“But he’s running out of time.” How so, is Everytown planning something?

  6. actually, yes, please encourage Barry Hussein Soetoro to take executive action this December. Please. Let’s make sure he does everything possible to overreach and to put a (W) in the (R) column in 2016. . . . .

    • …and watch for the impeachment charges to be filed against Barack Hussein Obeyme like confetti at a parade!

      • Impeachment charges? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Boehner had all the material he needed to impeach 3 years ago and he refused to do it. You think Ryan, who has the same material, will do it? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Obama could eviscerate a live puppy on the Capitol steps on TV, eat its heart, have sex with its still-warm body and still not get impeached.

  7. The President has the power to crack down on high-volume gun sellers and make them conduct background checks.

The power to crack down on legal businesses and make them do what they’re already doing? Yeah, why don’t you all get right on that.

  8. What we need is an “alt-gun” movement that “trolls” gun violence as an Internet meme. Other “alt-right” sites do it with other issues. The idea is to mock the enemy by making fun of their most cherished talking points. “Truthing” mass shootings is but one technique. Dubbing a “laugh track” over an anti-gun “tear-jerker” screed might be another. The point is to be intentionally offensive and ridiculous.

    • Walk around with signs saying:
“Save a criminal, put the gun in jail”
“Only criminals should be allowed to carry guns in gun free zones.”
“Criminals will DEFINITELY follow the next law(s) you pass.”
“Only police and government should own guns. Just ask how well that works for China and North Korea.”
“Even women gun owners are over compensating for their small pen1ses ”
“Ask a Chicagoan how effective gun control is.”
“No one needs to defend themselves. The government will take care of you.”
“Black lives matter only when a white man kills them.”
“Leeland Yee: Ban guns, but if you still want them, come see me out back and I’ll sell you some.”

    • “Troll” the anti’s? Are you kidding me/us? The Left and their disarmament cabal exercise THEIR 1st Amendment Rights BUT God forbid a pro-2nd Amendment advocate challenges their faulty assertions, exposes their lies and blatantly false data even in a rational and polite manner that person has THEIR comment/contribution immediately deleted then finds themselves “banned” and “blocked” from posting. Additionally the dishonest demagogues belonging to the Left record the names of those with opposing views, share the names among their various groups then engage in campaign of harassment contacting employers and police resulting in the “Swatting” of any subject that disagrees with them and their Cultural Marxist masters.

  9. I’m with Dirk. Even Barry isn’t THAT stupid-maybe. BTW nothing “commonsense” wouldv’e stopped lunatic lanza…

  10. Ahhh, the sweet stench of desperation. They know the left is in trouble for 2016, and are trying to get as much done as possible before the fall.

  11. Don’t these people realize that…
    A: laws don’t prevent sh!t
B: only 24/7 armed security at a school can prevent someone from carrying a gun in the premises, and even then it’s not foolproof.
C: If the president can annul the 2A, that means he can tear up the 1A, or the whole constitution for that matter. They imply that he should have absolute power, as if he were a monarch or dictator. I’m not sure if they consciously want that or if they just don’t realize how far down the rabbit hole they are. It’s terrifying either way.

    • “Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it’s not an individual right or that it’s too much of a public safety hazard don’t see the danger in the big picture. They’re courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the Constitution they don’t like.”
~Alan Morton Dershowitz; “The Conceptual Foundations of Anglo-American Jurisprudence in Religion and Reason”, Tennessee Law Review. Vol. 62, No. 3, 1995, p. 759

  12. For the edification of Ms. Lafferty & the Bloomberg quislings at ‘Everytown’:

United States presidents issue executive orders to help officers and agencies of the executive branch manage the operations within the federal government itself. Executive orders have the full force of law when they take authority from a legislative power which grants its power directly to the Executive by the Constitution, or are made pursuant to Acts of Congress that explicitly delegate to the President some degree of discretionary power (delegated legislation). Like both legislative statutes and regulations promulgated by government agencies, executive orders are subject to judicial review, and may be struck down if deemed by the courts to be unsupported by statute or the Constitution. Major policy initiatives require approval by the legislative branch, but executive orders have significant influence over the internal affairs of government, deciding how and to what degree legislation will be enforced, dealing with emergencies, waging 72-hour length strikes on enemies, and in general fine-tuning policy choices in the implementation of broad statutes.

    Basis in United States Constitution

There is no constitutional provision nor statute that explicitly permits executive orders. The term executive power Article II, Section 1, Clause 1 of the Constitution, refers to the title of President as the executive. He is instructed therein by the declaration “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed” made in Article II, Section 3, Clause 5 or face impeachment. Most executive orders use these Constitutional reasonings as the authorization allowing for their issuance to be justified as part of the President’s sworn duties, the intent being to help direct officers of the U.S. Executive carry out their delegated duties as well as the normal operations of the federal government: the consequence of failing to comply possibly being the removal from office.

An executive order of the president must find support in the Constitution, either in a clause granting the president specific power, or by a delegation of power by Congress to the president.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_order

Care to show us where the Congress has delegated that authority to BHO²?

How about where in the Constitution BHO² was given the power or authority to “side-step” the 2nd Amendment’s acknowledgement of “The People’s Right to Keep and Bear Arms”?

    • Oh, those other demanding “Mothers” at MADD are still at it, you just don’t hear from them much now that they have virtually everything they want except Prohibition. Since drunk driving was already illegal, they had to go after less drunk and less drunk drivers, until .08% is considered a crime in many places.

  13. While I see much of the same rehearsed responses above that we always get when this sort of posting lands, what I almost never see is anyone noticing the fact that these campaigns and plea’s for support have no meat to them.

What they brought forward is a request for someone to take action on their behalf. This is all said and fine, but even the POTUS can’t use any level of power, legal or not, to execute literally nothing. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous speech would have totally missed the ball if it was merely “I have a dream”, and the masses just filled in the blanks.

There is no plan to execute, right/wrong/legal/illegal/wishful thinking… No amount of power can rush nothing through any system.

  14. The problem with abusing executive orders just to stick it to gun owners is that congress will be tempted to go back and ask exactly what the limits of the presidential pen are.
With democrats fixing to maintain control of the white house, its not a question they want answered.

  15. Obama has already issued over 2000 executive orders, I’m pretty sure that if the stringer pullers knew they could get away with it they would have no problem issuing a couple more executive orders to make the “gun problem” go away. Unfortunately for them, there is a large portion of the population willing to die to make sure the 2nd amendment isn’t swept under the rug.

    • I do not support BHO, but you are wrong. Please research facts or do math before posting. Your number of 2000 needs to be divided by 10 and adjusted from there.

        • Well captain contradiction, try this: Grab a calculator or google it or just dig head out of rectum and think for a second. Obama would have had to average about 1 EO a day (taking weekends off) for his entire presidency. Or, if he didn’t take days off from issuing EO’s he’d have had to issue one a day for 5 and a half years, without fail. In fact the number is 209 which is about 30% less than his 2 most recent predecessors and just about 1/10th the number given by Surely who is surely the kind of ultra credulous person that takes any line of bull hockey he hears from another ultra right winger to be the gospel truth without any skepticism or fact checking, because reasons. You should both dig your heads out of the political one or the other mindset and think for yourself.

  16. Their willingness to demand the president use executive action to attack the Constitution the president took an oath to protect speaks volumes to the integrity as American citizens of the Everytown cult. I think American’s are too nice to these anti-American cults. We don’t have to be. To add I’m sick of the “Sandyhook” fallback position. There are reasons a lot of people ended up dead in this attack, some of which are unpopular to discuss but nonetheless true.
