U.S. News‘ headline above an AP report on Everytown for Gun Safety: Backed by activist moms and Bloomberg’s money, gun-safety group expands influence in states. The article regurgitates Everytown’s spin on their progress (or lack thereof) degrading and destroying Americans’ gun rights. Pay no attention to our resounding defeat on the national level. Or polls that show majority and growing support for gun rights. Or gun rights expanding in more than a dozen states. We’re kicking ass and taking names on the state and local level! I’ll spare you the anti-gunners’ bloody shirt-waving high-fives. To his credit . . .

AP writer Ryan J. Foley includes some choice NRA quotes pushing back against Everytown’s PR. Like this:

In its most recent tax filing, Everytown reported $36 million in spending in 2013, or about 10 times as much as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a prominent gun-control group that has little presence in states. The 5 million-member NRA spent $290 million that year, including $27 million on its lobbying arm.

The NRA remains a potent force in states. Gun rights supporters have successfully pushed for legislation to allow concealed weapons in more public places and to loosen permit and license requirements that they say undermine the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

A new law in Maine, for example, allows legal gun owners to carry concealed handguns without a permit, wiping out a mandatory permit system that had been in effect for nearly a century. It was a defeat for Everytown, which ran television, radio and digital ads across the state against the bill.

Texas lawmakers gave the gun lobby its best session in 20 years, passing bills to allow those with permits to carry guns in plain sight and to carry concealed weapons on college campuses. Yet even there, lobbying from gun-control supporters helped obtain a significant concession that will allow university administrators to carve out gun-free zones.

Did you catch that? Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg personally pledged $50m to the gun control crusade. According to this, he’s already spent most of it, with $700k allocated to the Virginia Senatorial race. Some say Bloomberg made a $50m per year commitment. Regardless, Mayor Mike will dip into his bank account again – as long as the AP and the rest of the mainstream media continue their hosannahs. Which they will.

“People tend to listen to moms for lots of reasons,” said North Carolina Rep. Duane Hall, a Democrat. Like other lawmakers, he wore an orange tie to show solidarity when hundreds of moms in orange — the favorite color of a girl killed in Chicago — packed the Capitol earlier this year during debate on the gun bill.

People tend to ignore Moms demanding action for gun control in America for a lot of reasons, too. Bottom line: you can try to buy common sense gun control but you can’t buy common sense. Thank God.

    • I was at a Friends dinner with Chris Cox, Wayne and Cam Edwards. They told us that the off year political fund for the entire NRA is $17million or less than half. The tab for the major election cycle is $30 million or 60% of what Bloomturd spends.

  1. Rep. Duane Hall, a Democrat, wore an orange tie to show solidarity with thousands of other Democrats in orange jumpsuits. We can only hope that some day they will all be wearing the same attire, starting with that little douchebag from New York City.

  2. hundreds of moms in orange — the favorite color of a girl killed in Chicago — packed the Capitol earlier this year during debate on the gun bill.

Can anyone confirm this actually happened?

  3. “Did you catch that? Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg personally pledged $50m to the gun control crusade. According to this, he’s already spent most of it, …”

I’m throwing the BS flag on that one.

Bloomie didn’t get to be a ‘billionaire’ by throwing that much money at something with that pathetic of a result.

  4. In that picture, Bloomberg is pointing the rifle DIRECTLY at the guy next to him. This is an especially careless move, since guns are sentient beings that can act on their own and murder people (according to the dunderheads in Everytown). At least he’s not pulling a “Feinstein” and putting his finger on the trigger.

It is terrifying that people who know so little about guns are spending billions to change public policy on them. There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.

  5. “People tend to listen to moms for lots of reasons”

Why? What special insights do mom’s have? Do they have special abilities at reasoning, data analysis, and research? No, no they don’t. That is why I just facepalm when people act like a mom has some sort of special intuition about guns, gun laws, self defense, etc.

    • This. Just because you pushed a giant lump out of your baby cannon does not make you an expert on gun (or any other) policy.

  6. I am from Maine. Any politician that has voted for gun control has committed treason and a breach of contract. He/she swore an oath to defend the Constitution. THAT is a verbal contract. By breaking that oath he/she is in breach of contract and can be sued in a tort action. Go for it, someone should get some money out of it and it will hurt him/her and maybe shut him/her up. No double standards put the DC politicians on Obamacare and SS.Thanks for your support and vote.Pass the word. mrpresident2016.com

  7. Same money burning as the fed 🙁
If you see what you can do good and usefull from that money it makes realy angry ………..

  8. I like it how the NRA spending money to lobby politicians is this big horrible thing that has to be stopped but Bloomberg spending money to lobby politicians is a grass-roots movement that is to be encouraged and supported.

  9. Imagine the good they could do if Everytown for Gun Safety spent that money on promoting gun safety instead of gun control.

  10. This is the same gun that cops keep in their trunk for the real serious stuff.Bloomburger and his ilk never get it ,that in America the guns belong to the citizens first, the citizen has MORE rights to firearms than any cop or soldier. WE HAVE OUR OWN AMENDMENT,,,, WHICH IS THE LAW OF THE LAND.
