I don’t think he carries too much gear at all. His EDC (well chosen as a Glock) with a spare mag and a BUG. Same as I do. The knife is always a good idea and the multi-tool doesn’t take up much room. I’d be curious to know where he carries the BUK.
The BUG, if that’s what you’re asking about in your last sentence, goes directly in the small of my back, easy draw with either hand being ambidextrous.
At least there’s where it goes most days, it depends on how I’m dressed.

I don’t know for sure, but I carry my BUG (back-up gun) in a pocket holster so I would imagine he does the same since that is the most efficient and accessible way to carry it. Ankle holsters are too slow to access in a tight situation.
Oh, I guess I don’t think of any of the knives as being “backup”, just each have a specific use. The SOG is carried in the boot. And as noted, the secondary handgun is carried in the small of the back for access by either hand.
I’m more concerned with being able to draw it with either hand than with the speed of the draw, and pocket carry is horrible for ambi draws. My speed of pocket draw is less than stellar compared to IWB, due to the style of pants I wear, the only advantage would be to have the hand rest on the butt of the handgun ahead of time.
I can see what you’re saying. My concept of a BUG is that if my primary weapon is nonfunctional, or more salient, if my strong side hand/arm is disabled, I will need to draw my BUG with me weak hand. I regularly practice at the range drawing and shooting single handed with my weak hand.
In the end, we all do what works best for us. I’ve had a lot of experience in high risk security and in ambidextrous CQB, so I am ambidextrous with a handgun. Consequently, I try to balance my carry so that i can draw my BUG with my weak hand.
Rockin the Gen 2 17, great demonstration of the longevity of the platform. Good on ya for packing the extra mag, I’m usually lazy when carrying my 19, don’t have a good carry system in place for toting a spare double stack comfortably.
5-11 makes some great covert carry pants that have hidden internal pockets with mag pockets built in. They don’t look like your usual ‘operator’ or cargo pants. I love them because they’re comfortable and allow me to carry everything I want.
The one pictured above is always right beside the wallet in a back pocket, firmly upright, well retained, and appropriately indexed. Never had any lint problems due denim pockets, and it’s never slipped around unless the wallet was out.
