Except it isn’t. None of the “gun sanctuary” resolutions declare any law or regulation as unconstitutional. Nor do they mandate that local officials/officers not enforce any law or regulation. They are nothing more than statements of opinion. Unlike the sanctuary city/county/state resolutions which forbid local officials and officers from enforcing federal immigration laws. The Tenth Amendment Center has a good write up about it.

You Illinoians really need to get a succession movement. Going. I think Iowa would give Dubuque and Davenport to the new Obumaland. They could then just appoint Rahn as Grand Poobah and Barry as Dear Ruler. You would certainly need to build a tall strong wall to keep the critters out.

I HATE CROOK COUNTY…can’t wait to be rid of it…I am just wondering why it has taken the folks downstate so long to get fed-up with the hellhole of Chicago (and Madigan) running the entire state, and to speak up about it!!!! It’s been this way for 30+ years….the politicians here have nearly sent the entire state into bankruptcy and that should make anyone who pays the outrageous taxes here angry beyond description!!

Long ago when state lines were being negotiated Chicago, and a fair share of northern Illinois almost ended up being in Wisconsin. Not that I wish anything ill on the good people of WI, for those of us in Lincoln Land it’s too bad that didn’t happen.

And no offense… but from my perspective in SE WI, that wave of idiocy is inexorably flowing north across the border. It used to be limited to Milwaukee & Chicago and their major suburbs, but in my lifetime it’s spread through all the cities between them along Lake Michigan, and is now spreading west through those counties as well.

Your comment re urban population density allowing shitties to dictate to less dense areas can be expanded to the entire country. The arguments against the Electoral College, if adopted, would result in a country run by coastal elites who, while residing in their gated communities, would determine what and how the rest of the country conducted ourselves. It is time to give States the option to separate dominant urban areas into separate and independent States. An alternative would modify the “one man, one vote” criteria for apportionment to allow one house to be selected by something other than population, i.e., 1 state senator per county just like the US Senate.
What would that do to the balance in the Senate, though? Nothing good, I think.

Consider California. If San Francisco + San Jose + Oakland formed a single splitaway, and Los Angeles, were another, that’s four Dem. senators. Even if the rest of the state went Repub that’s still net 2+ Dems to the Senate.
If Illinois seceded from Cook County, Cook County would continue to send two senators who are members of the most corrupt political machine in the US to the senate. Illinois, which is majority republican otherwise, would begin to send two republicans, who would likely be similar to what we get from Indiana, Kentucky, or Iowa. So the balance of the senate would change. A 51R – 49D senate would go to 53R – 49D.
The same would be true of other states where one large metro area skews an otherwise republican state left (e.g. Washington, Oregon, Colorado).
As mentioned above, if California split into more blue states than red states, then it would skew things the other way. But as long as a state that’s consistently blue splits evenly between red and blue, it’s a net win for the red side.
No one of consequence: CA currently has two far-left Senate seats. In the six seat world you envision, they’d have four leftists and two Republicans. So the change would be from +2 to +4-2, still a net evil of 2.
That’s just rearranging deck chairs. It misses th real problem. The real problem is that there are too many people with no skin in the game. They are content to trade their votes for trinkets and beads to a voracious government.
Unless the plan entails slashing government’s scale and scope back to constitutionally permitted levels and restricting voting to a much smaller, more invested subset of citizens, then you will at best only delay the inevitable.
Now that idea of the Founders to give the franchise to only those who owned property (and therefore paid taxes) looks positively prescient, doesn’t it?

You can name the problems that Illinois has in one word- Chicago. Wisconsin is a far more liberal state than Illinois ever was, and Chicago by rights should be part of it. I lived in southern Illinois for several years and no one I talked to had anything good to say about Chicago period.
In case you missed it Wisconsin experienced the great red shift now is Republicans would bother to come out and vote it will remain that way.

For those who invest in the muni bond market, if you read an analysis of various states’ financial soundness, you see just how dire the Illinois situation is.

See that “BBB-” rating for Illinois? That’s one itty-bitty step above “non-investment grade,” aka “junk” or “speculative” grade debt, per bond rating agencies’ systems. The very next downgrade by S&P, Moody’s or Fitch’s will take Illinois debt to “junk” status.
It would seem logical that Cook County’s ratings would be as bad as the state’s overall rating… Buuuut… here’s an interesting little factoid for your consideration: Cook County’s GO (aka “general obligation”) bond rating, last I looked, was A2. This is not great, but nowhere near as bad as the overall state’s credit rating.
What’s the problem with Illinois? The Cook County machine runs Springfield, that’s what. It seems as tho the worst of the worst from Cook County go to the state legislature, and pillage the state’s treasury, while they avoid funding the full costs of Cook County’s schemes and dreams. Meanwhile, they enjoy the fruits of their pillage, while maintaining a good credit rating for the city of Chicago, one of the most corrupt and malfeasant in the nation.
The state needs a wholesale replacement of their legislative seat allocation, and the rest of the state needs to gain the political power to choke off the Cook County machine. Absent armed overthrow of the Cook County machine, I think that’s going to be difficult…
