This seems about right. It appears that the dedicated public servants running the glorious operation otherwise known as the California state government hired the same people to build their “assault rifle” registration web site as the Obama administration used for ObamaCare enrollment.
As Californians should have learned from a previous Governor, beware of “help” from Sacramento.

Actually, the registration website doesn’t even exist yet. And don’t the proposed regulations have to be available for public comment for 30 days before they are official?
Whether regulations have to be available for public comment for a specific time frame is an interesting question. The Legislature, in its infinite wisdom, allowed the DOJ power to implement “emergency” regulations, a process that could avoid or at least drastically decrease the public comment period. The DOJ tried this once already, submitting proposed regs to be enrolled directly. However, proposed regulations do have to go before a commission which can reject regulations after its review.

We need at least one person above board who can file the lawsuit that will go to SCOTUS. The rest of us will be waiting on our boats with our perfectly lawful firearms hoping that no tragic accidents occur.
This news is so old its joints creak. Actually, the DOJ did promptly issue regulations last January, and did open a portal for registration in compliance with the regs. However, the regulations went way way way beyond the scope of the law that was passed, and several groups, including Calguns and the NRA immediately filed protests. I don’t remember all the details, but it was far more than the registration requirements for assault rifles enacted in 2000. the DOJ required numerous photographs of each rifle that was to be registered, included a requirement that essentially prohibited swapping uppers by requiring all rifles to remain in the configuration in which they were registered, and further prohibited removing bullet buttons from rifles (and pistols) now registered as “assault weapons,” even though all the previous assault weapons registered under prior law have no bullet buttons. . To make matters worse, the regs were internally inconsistent and in conflict with existing provisions of laws. Shortly after protests were received, the DOJ pulled its proposed regs and closed the portal.
Everyone has been waiting patiently for new regs to be issued. Obviously there is the time factor, but there is also the issue of what configurations will be allowed after registration, so that people can figure out if they want to register or go “featureless.”
Doesnt matter. Avoid registration like the plague. Familiarize yourself with the law so you can make informed decisions for yourself and know where you stand when you cross the line…. by pulling the regulations doj demonstrated the folly of regulations; they can be changed at any time. Look no further then the ATF regulations.
That is intensely debated, but bottom line, it’s better to have a bullet-button RAW than to not. If Cal goes after featureless mag-dropping rifles, having a RAW would allow you to keep your features, and not have to remove the action when reloading.
Perhaps we should plague the registration system. I have 10 million assault weapons that I can register. They’ll have a to waste a lot of time finding them all.

+1… Heres part of the law that goes way beyond registration….. “(3) The registration shall contain a description of the firearm that identifies it uniquely, including all identification marks, the date the firearm was acquired, THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE INDIVIDUAL FROM WHOM, or business from which, THE FIREARM WAS ACQUIRED, as well as the registrant’s full name, address, telephone number, date of birth, sex, height, weight, eye color, hair color, and California driver’s license number or California identification card number.”
They are following the lead of Nazi Germany circa 1935. Just don’t do it.

Meanwhile, many more categories of people, including Nazi party members, were exempted from gun ownership regulations altogether, while the legal age of purchase was lowered from 20 to 18, and permit lengths were extended from one year to three years.
The law did prohibit Jews and other persecuted classes from owning guns, but this should not be an indictment of gun control in general.

In California all guns are registered at time of purchase. Registering as a RAW just lets you keep free dropping mags when they go after featureless rifles. And believe me, they will.
Conspiracy theory here. Is anyone surprised by this? Force people to register, then don’t provide a way to do it, Oops ar-15 owner I am now taking your ar and all other firearms and throwing you in jail for violating the law?

When that mistake could put you in jail, yes, stop him. Display his stupidity for the whole world to see.
Make sure we all recognize the possible effects of his stupidity. All of us, including his allies.
Stupidity, when it hurts our enemies, shouldn’t be publicized. But when it hurts us, yes, indeed, shout it from the rooftops. Especially when it might not be stupidity, but a clever attempt to hurt us.
It’s not that the registration site doesn’t work…it hasn’t been built yet. In fact DOJ just submitted funding requests last Thursday for 27 new positions associated with building, maintaining , etc said site and registration process in general.

Maybe I’m just jaded but I would suspect that there is no provision for “Oh, we screwed up”.
That’s how government does things, they screw up and you pay the piper.
For example, the Colorado Insurance Exchange botched my application for health insurance this year but failed to inform me. When I looked into things I found that the application was “submitted” but never actually received by the insurance company. I tried for six weeks to get that straightened out but the deadline eventually passed.
The result is I can’t buy insurance because Colorado won’t allow me to purchase “compliant” insurance and bans the sale of non-compliance policies. The only ways around that are to have a kid, get divorced or be released from prison.
So we have no insurance until next year. Thanks Government!

I believe there is another option.
The changing jobs provision. If you know someone who owns a company, ask them to give you proof of employment. It doesn’t matter that you will never be showing up at that place and will never be punching that timeclock.

Yes, Governor Hickenlooper is a huge Obamacare fan. But it’s not CO who won’t allow you to buy insurance, it’s the Federals.
Wife and I haven’t had insurance for 3 years now, get used to it.
Well, California likely already has the name of rifle owner in a database and so they likely know who owns these new “assault weapons” anyway.
My guess is the website will never be built, and they’ll just start arresting people in January.
Why else would Jerry Brown release all of those felons out of California prisons? /;-)
