Yada yada “not the weapon the Founding Fathers foresaw.” Yada yada “Constitutional rights, reasonable exceptions.” Yada yada yada. The Boston Globe editorial Ban These Guns is everything we’ve come to expect from the forces of civilian disarmament. And then there’s this:

desantis blue logo no back 4 small

“In the end, of course, the NRA and the zealotry it fans are only symptoms of the country’s unhealthy gun fetish. On the one hand, the state of Massachusetts prides itself on its own tough gun laws. On the other, our state also profits from the production and sale of semiautomatic assault weapons by companies based here. Indeed, at its root, our gun culture is driven by demand: Millions of Americans feel that they need to own an assault weapon for either their own protection or their casual enjoyment.”

The Globe gets it! While they somehow missed out on the bit about Americans owning guns as a defense against tyranny — the reason the the Second Amendment exists — the editorialists understand that America likes its guns. So . . . who’s got the gun fetish, eh? How else do you explain the media’s coverage of a radical Islamist terrorist attack as if it were a gun problem? And yet journalists (in general) don’t own or shoot guns. What’s that all about?

  1. The media isn’t smart enough to have a fetish.

These “the Founding Fathers wouldn’t allow BS reminds me of another media-leftist bit of nonsense — “What would Jesus Drive.” their answer was a Prius of course until someone pointed out that as a carpenter he would need a F-150 to carry his gear to the job site and later on his mission his 12 disciples.

  2. The statists will never acknowledge the possibility that the state would ever become the source of tyranny. This desperate the clear evidence that we have been experiencing creeping tyranny for many years. Keep your powder dry the day may come when you need it!

        • The second our government gives us the same excuse the British did, all hell will break loose. Molon Labe!

        • The second our government gives us the same excuse the British did

          Well….

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

Plenty of examples from immigration to guns where .gov has blocked state level legislation through litigation or the threat of cutting funding.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

          See my immigration note above…

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

          FBI. ATF. DHS. SSA.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

Not an “army” per se, but…

          FBI. ATF. DHS. SSA.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

See: the levitation that is the DOD.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation

          United Nations.

For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us

If the proliferation and militarization of police don’t count, I don’t know what does.

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent

The income tax was passed on the promise that wages ARE NOT income. AFTER the income tax passed the definition of income suddenly changed.

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury

No fly list. Removing rights from disabled veterans. Et.all.

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments

Our most valuable law is the Constitution. Find a law passed in the last 100 years that didn’t violate it in at least 3 ways.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

          *cough*Syrian refugees*cough*

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

So, the Indian clause doesn’t apply, but domestic insurrection? Civil War? “If I had a son?” Our government THRIVES on dividing is.

13 of 27 unique grievances in the Declaration. Probably even more, but I’m researching and typing all this with my thumb.

TL;DR version: it’s past time to keep our powder dry.

    • The only source of “tyranny” for them is the “Patriarchy” (actually the Feminarchy, which coincidentally they want to give all their means of defense and freedom to).

  3. The media has a slavery fetish.

They want slavery for everyone except themselves and their rich friends.

    • No, they want to be slaves too. They just want to wear the lighter chains and have the softer beds.

    • Maybe we should send them daily articles of the newest newspaper shut down, the most recent reporter arrested and charged with treason, by that formerly democratic country of Turkey, now run by a despot who cannot tolerate dissent. Then maybe they will understand what is happening here. But I won’t hold my breath.

  4. The continuing push in congress on anti gun bills seeks to trash and remove DUE PROCESS. The ‘ EBR ‘ ( evil black rifle ) is only an excuse. The latest Collins (R) Maine , amendment stalled 58-38 this AM. Held over for reconsideration ,it may be back , while Pat Toomey ,( Rino ) Pa. is pushing another BOGUS bill.

House Dim’s are pouting , holding a sit in ……… Turn out the lights and leave them there.

  5. Guns = ratings. I get that.

It’s the outright lying, lack of credible sources, and terrible “journalism” that is bothersome and old.

  6. The media has a Hillary fetish and perceives gun control, which they love, as a wedge issue to drive her presidential campaign.

If they perceived gun control as a loser, they’d be pimping something else to get the bitch elected as our new Fuhrer.

    • Ha ha I thought she looked like a crack head too.. I see people looking like that I walk the other direction that’s on a photo for a paper too I can’t imagine what she would look like in everyday life.

  7. Do “Black lives matter” groupettes need racism?

Do awards-cases attorneys need constantly new reasons to litigate?

  8. The media is just hung up on this juvenile “I’m gonna change the world!” nonsense.
It doesn’t matter what, how or why.

Two types of people get into media. The first is the anti-authoritarian who wants to change the way the statists operate. If you haven’t noticed they’re nearly extinct. The second is the busy-body nanny stater who wants to coddle everyone as though we are broken children. Helicopter parents whose smothering ran their kids off and never hear from them so they go into the work force and satisfy their urge to control there. These make up the majority of all media personalities now telling us everything we eat is poison, everything we do is dangerous and the natural world around us is trying to kill us and the only power on earth that can save us is the statist authoritarians.

  9. “Reporter shows how easily criminals buy assault rifles.”

So reporters are gun-obsessed criminals. Got it.

  10. Fetish for guns? Maybe, though more than likely they’re just after ratings and have their own political agenda. It could be a chicken-and-egg deal: does the media constantly report on gun violence because it draws viewers, or are viewers drawn to gun violence news because that is what is constantly reported?

  11. The media is likely doing what they’re told by their masters. The media is a tool under the power and ownership of the elite, it’s just become a lot more apparent these days. That being said I think it will continue where media sources are gobbled up and used as a tool/for the entertainment of the wealthy elites.

Oh, and they’re also using their first amendment protections to make celebrities out of these killers which in turn spawns more of them. It’s like advertising for crazies. Guns, video games, movies etc. get a great deal of the blame although you never hear them talk about their own role in it.

    • Yep. Just Dem operative with bylines, as Glenn Reynolds says.

I think the Dems and their mouthpieces in the media are just using this as an excuse for one last big push before the election, where they might lose big. If they don’t keep the presidency, they are totally screwed on gun control, and HRC’s pending legal problems are making them nervous enough to put all their eggs in this one basket and try to force it down our throats, like they did with ObamaCare.

Keep in mind, and remind anyone who needs it, that if this was REALLY the problem that the Dems are claiming it is (and has been), then they could have passed anything they wanted in the first two years of Obama’s first term, when they controlled the entire congress.

But they didn’t. Because they DON’T really care about violence.

They are quite happy to use dead kids or dead gays as props in their campaign ads, and in emotional appeals to pass new legislation, as well as old proposals that have REPEATEDLY failed when proposed during calmer non-emotional times.

Time to call this as it is, and stop letting them control the debate.

Ask them “Why didn’t you fix this YEARS ago? Why do you hate kids and gays?”, like they would if it were Republicans in this spot. Do it!

  12. I am pretty sure they just proved how easy it is for a law bidding citizen to purchase a gun.

Try the same experiment with a convicted Felon and see what happens.

  13. I think the talk of guns is really a cover for their obsession with the penis size of people who don’t agree with them.

  14. Does the Media Have a “Gun Fetish”?

By any common meaning of “fetish”, clearly yes, in exactly the way that OFWG “gun fetishists” do not.

Why is this even a question? Oh, they don’t know. Well, now I’m conflicted: should we tell them?

  15. If it bleeds it leads. They have an attention fetish…any kind from anywhere for any reason. They have an overwhelming desire to be “important”, which is why they hold activism to be their highest calling.

  16. 1) Is she a criminal?
2)Did she have to pass a background check?
    3) Did she intend to commit murder or other felony crime?
If those questions are answered as I expect, sounds like the system is working EXACTLY as designed, which is itself surprising. Good guys should be able to buy such a gun just as quickly as their payment is accepted. If you disagree, tell me why not. This system, at huge expense and with very minor (almost invisible) benefits in the past 30 years (have 500 people been prosecuted, much less convicted?), was pushed on the nation as the big solution to the “gun problem”, completely ignored promptly thereafter, we need some other idiotic “solution” as well, this by itself is useless, but no, we certainly can’t repeal it, I would like to know how many $billions have been spent on it since.

Now, since she obviously thinks such guns should not be in circulation, has she turned hers in to the police for destruction? Is she planning to keep the accursed thing? Or did she hand it over to her boyfriend/brother or sell it to someone else without a background check (either one a felony straw purchase)? Morons will moron.

  17. The title of that video should have been”how American citizens legally buy a gun”. Seriously she actually looked disgusted that they sold her a gun.
Listen lady, if you are not a felon, not on a FBI list you can pass a FBI background check, then you can own a gun from said dealer.
    Welcome to America
(I’m beginning to wonder if they stopped teaching about the Constitution in public schools)

    • The only thing I was taught about the Constitution in public school was that it was signed after the Revolutionary War and it gives us our freedoms (unexplained by teacher). When it came to the Bill of Rights, only that is was the first 10 amendments to the Constitution (zero details on said Rights). Next up on the agenda skipped right the the Sixties, “a time when America really grew.” 🙁

      • The public instruction about the constitution and BOR was that it was written by racist slave owning white guys and open to radical interpretation by the super smart millenials of today.

BTW, any idea in the BOR that happens to still be acceptable to modern day leftists was likely due to that founding father stealing the idea ftom a muslim transgendered person of color.

  18. Wonderful piece, shows just how easy it is to get a rifle in this country.

2A is a beautiful thing, let’s never lose it.

  19. “How else do you explain the media’s coverage of a radical Islamist terrorist attack as if it were a gun problem? And yet journalists (in general) don’t own or shoot guns. What’s that all about?”

Because a gun can’t get in front of a keyboard, a microphone, or a camera and call out a reporter for being bigoted or intolerant or racist or whatever the term of the day is.

Guns are easy targets because, as inanimate objects, guns can’t defend themselves against attack.

    • Anti gunners and liberals refuse to face reality. They cannot admit evil exist and when told Orlando police investigating the scene kept hearing cell phone pings, beeps and rings of people trying to contact the dead, they cannot come to grips that their ideology and dogma is responsible for the body count and refusing to believe people can defend themselves with guns.

  20. I know Auto Ordnance is in Worcester (say it with me now, “Woo-stah”), Savage is in Westfield (motto: “Less crime than Springfield!”), and Smith & Wesson is in Springfield. Gun manufacturing is a shadow of what it once was here, which is sad, because I’d be happy, if not proud, to own a good product that was made locally.

I would be interested, though, to know how much our state govenment makes off products that it restricts its own citizens from owning.

  21. Twitter is the “assault weapon” of the First Amendment.

You can tweet something infinitely stupid or dangerous and it will reach billions at the speed of light.

  22. From observing this issue for 20+ years, oh yes, they’ve got a fetish about guns. They’re absolutely obsessed with them.

When I lived in Silicon Valley, and I’d interact with “journalists” in the high-tech media in Silicon Valley, every now and again the subject of guns would come up. I’d sometimes mention casually that I owned and shot guns – sometimes competitively. I could distract any interview about tech issues immediately by working guns into the conversation. I did this deliberately a couple of times when I wanted to end a line of questioning that might have proven embarrassing for my employer. To even the tech industry reporters, mentioning guns is like saying “Squirrel!” to a Labrador Retriever.

But there was one interview with the tech media which happened close to one of the shooting incidents in California back then. I was in this meeting with two female journalists from a tech publication at a trade show in the Bay Area. These women decided to pop off on “the gun issue.” They started the usual virtuous rant of j-school majors on the subject of guns, how they should be banned, gun owners severely restricted, guns kept locked up at police stations, etc. All manner of “See? I’m such a good person because I believe these supposedly good things.”

A fellow engineer in the interview (former military, and also a shooter) and I let them wade in pretty deep on the topic while we said nothing.

Then I casually slipped that “… I am a gun owner, and shoot competitively…”

It was one of those very rare times in my life I’ve been able to make women just shut up. Jaws dropped open. “You don’t seem like a violent person!” “I’m not. What does owning guns have to do with being violent? Does simply owning a car imply that you will drive drunk and kill someone?”

Oh, it was delightful. Then I noticed something… these women quickly developed physiological reactions that quite clearly indicated that they were sexually excited. Let’s just say that it seemed as tho the room suddenly got much, much colder for them than it was for we men. I wasn’t the only man there who noticed it, either.

Every time I saw either of these female journalists in the next several years, they always asked me about guns, whether I still owned them, whether I was still shooting them, where was I shooting, what did I shoot, yadda, yadda. I never brought the issue up again – they always did, and it usually seemed as tho they were feeling downright cold.

When I told my wife about these experiences, all she could say was “You’re a bad, bad, very bad man. That’s why I married you. Still, you shouldn’t be cruel, and I know you’re having far too much fun tormenting those women. Stop it.”

    Sigh.

  23. It’s even the way they report shootings. A radio news report recently mentioned the words gun, gunman, shooting, shooter, shot so often in one paragraph, that it was hard to comprehend what happened. All I know is…gun.

  24. I’m not sure what this reporter expected. If you have a clean record, it shouldn’t take any longer than that to fill out the paperwork and get approval. My last purchase took me longer to fill out the 4473 e-form than seven minutes. She must type fast. It’s only going to take longer if you have a sketchy past like that other douchebag reporter that tried this.

  25. I would like to make a correction here, the deadliest mass shooting in American history occurred in Wounded Knee South Dakota on December 29,1890. These murders were carried out by agents of the U.S. government against the Lakota tribe, of which the vast majority were women and children, 150 people died that day. Look it up !

    • Second most deadly. Google Lawrence, Kansas Massacre. The official count was 183 males between the ages of 14 and 90. By the Quintrill Raiders. Some at the hand of Quintrell himself, well-educated and formerly a school teacher.

  26. You have to love this kind of article. I don’t think the authors ever think the big picture through very well. They need their readers to simultaneously believe they’re a violent, unstable person who shouldn’t be able to own guns, and a reliable, trustworthy source whose accounts should be believed and whose opinion should be adopted.

  27. …even a moment to at least consider how gross all of this felt as relatives of the dead were still being notified.

WTF! Crazy illogical lady, when a crazy dude blew up their muriah building, I didn’t feel gross about buying some fertilizer for the garden. When I saw on the news that a little boy performed a mass murder (with a knife) of his family I didn’t feel gross when I cut some vegetiables.

Likewise, when some crazy guy performs a terrible and criminal act with anything (but in this case a gun), I don’t feel gross when I buy a gun, clean my guns, go hunting with my guns, keep them for defense of my family in my home, practice with them at the range with friends, or do competitive sports with them for entertainment purposes.

These people are totally out of their minds. I should be easy to buy a gun. I should be easy to buy pressure cookers, fertilizer for my garden, knives for my kitchen, etc.

I’m sorry you feel sick that the United States has this kind of freedom.

  28. I would like to see the police not accept guns obtained this way. The gun was never used in a crime. A while back, a news person spent several thousand dollars and purchased guns at a gun show and then turned them in to the police. The police shouldn’t be a depository for legally obtained guns from anybody trying to make a statement.

    • You’re kidding, right? If someone came up to me and gave me a thousand dollar rifle and told me to destroy it, I’d say “sure, fine, OK, have a nice day!” And laugh for hours. That was still probably a felony, but I have a free gun! Why would you expect ANYBODY to refuse a free gun with no background check and nobody knows you have it?
