DeSantis Gunhide Question of the Day: Where Does the Gun End and the Shooter Begin?">Next Post

Please note: this not my question. I scraped it word-for-word from atlantic.com‘s headline. Here’s the sub-head: “Every year, hundreds of people attend the Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot, cultivating a love for assault weapons in an era of mass violence.” It’s too bad my Holocaust survivor father’s not alive to tell John B. Fisher about the real definition of “mass violence.” Anyway, Mr. Fisher answers his own question thusly, with links aplenty:

. . .  it’s also impossible to ignore the unintended consequences of American gun culture. Gun-homicide rates in the U.S. are among the highest in the developed world. Anti-suicide advocates point out that guns increase the success rate of suicide attempts. Simple proliferation of guns has made toddlers into shooters. This is without even mentioning the threat to women involved in domestic disputes, or the disproportionate impact of handguns on African American communities. Although the anti-gun left and the pro-gun right squabble over the validity of individual statistics, the combined weight of evidence is becoming irrefutable.

Don’t you hate it when evidence is becoming irrefutable — but isn’t quite there yet? Messes up your agument. Anyway, is machine gun love morally acceptable? And yes, I realize including a video of Lil Red Danger at the OAFAS confuses things a bit. Deal with it.

  1. That is the wrong question. Is moral to have enough money to shoot full auto is the right question.

  2. That girl needs to eat a sammich and get some sun.

As for loving machine guns? I defy anybody, including kapo bloomberg and hillary, to fire a fa weapon and not have a shit eating grin.

  3. My answer: Whiny little cocksnots like this guy can go pound sand in their safe spaces, and leave us PotG alone so we can enjoy our machine guns and “assault weapons”.

  4. It is immoral to negate human agency and responsibility and blame inanimate objects for ‘violence’ as if somehow they are even one of many causes of violent behavior. The only non-human factor in violence is the link between lead exposure and brain damage. Mr. Fisher is at best deluded. At worst he is a liar trying to obfuscate the truth to hide an endless litany of liberal malfeasance.

    • On those rare occasions when one cares not a whit if one engenders enmity at a dinner party by discussing one’s pro-gun, pro-2A perspectives, my inner pragmatist goads me to go full Buckley on them.

Beyond an exhaustive knowledge of the facts, one must also merchandise said facts in a way that subtly nudges the audience to understand that the other position, is only held by those who aren’t well-informed.

      Laborious process, sisyphean at times.

  5. As a sport shooter and lifelong hunter ,I am one of millions of responsible gun owners. Why is the answer always gun restrictions or out right bans. We could look at the prohibition Era of alcohol. Maybe short term effective? Arguably, but never addressed nor cured the underlying problems. I’m all for good possible solutions to crime but responsible gun owners shouldn’t be penalized for the minority who aren’t. Wake up America.

  6. Is it moral to throw people in prison while making a law that makes it illegal to comply with the law IE Hughes Amendment?

Is it moral to protect the so called “rights” of illegals as the burden and harm Americans?

Is moral to use feelings and reject facts?

    • Got jury duty next week. I’ll tell the judge what I told them the last two times:

I will not convict anyone of anything in this country while the government itself is aiding and abetting the violation of immigration law on a massive scale. And as a consequence aiding and abetting the additional crimes those illegal aliens commit- identity theft, welfare/IRS fraud, murder, drug sales, child molestation etc. etc. etc.

Amnesty for one, amnesty for all.

      • “Got jury duty next week. I’ll tell the judge what I told them the last two times:”

It’s a whole lot faster, and just as effective, if during ‘Voir dire’ you just tell them you are really looking forward to giving the guilty bastard the fair trial he deserves…

        *snicker*

  7. It’s OK to love your machine gun, just don’t LOVE your machine gun.

BTW, how many of these suicides are being committed with full autos?

  8. Are machine guns used in suicides, stop-and-rob crime, and parking lot hold ups? I fail to see the connection.

  9. Is it immoral to manufacture criminals from law abiding citizens while letting vast numbers of people who hurt other people out the revolving door of justice?

Is it immoral to make laws on the premise of innocent until proven guilty?

Fools like this would have you believe that we should.

  10. I won’t waste one more second discussing anything gun related with libtards and their pet lizards in the media. If after 20 years of dialog they “don’t get it,” then (much like a neutered dog) they will never get it.
It has become plainly clear, specially since 2007, that the media in general is too pigheaded and bias to accept truth and real facts, so why bother.

Now if y’all excuse me, gotta go sign up for Knob Creek’s October Machine Gun Shoot. 😀

  11. Morally acceptable to love machine guns? HA!

I think it’s completely morally acceptable, indeed morally preferable, to love Nukes. Yes, the N needed to be capitalized because they are that important.

    • I see more young people with intricate “public” tattoos than ever before now, and all I think is how happy those artists must be driving dump trucks full of cash to the bank. The cost is often mind blowing.

  12. The left is so vocal about non traditional love being accepted, you think they would have no problem with men loving inanimate objects. Next thing you know, ammosexual will be a legitimate orientation instead of a really unimaginative insult.

  13. “. . . it’s also impossible to ignore the unintended consequences of American gun culture. Gun-homicide rates in the U.S. are among the highest in the developed world.”
Actually that’s not the unintended consequence of our ‘gun culture’. That’s the unintended consequence of gun-control.

  14. Let me see if I get this…

Q- Is it morally acceptae to love machine guns?

A- Here’s a bunch of cherry-picked and disputed stats about NOT MACHINE GUNS.

CONCLUSION – Thus, the evidence is becoming irrefutable.

Oddly, I agree. The evidence is becoming irrefutable that Bloomie’s astroturf brigades aren’t just silly, but are so logically crippled they shouldn’t be let out of the house. If this is the quality of the agitprop parrots he can hire, maybe he should lay more.

As for loving machine guns… I’m a fan of human cleverness, kf human agency, and of human moral choice. With great power comes great responsibility. I admire people sho use great power responsibly, which often means not using it. (Like citizens with guns, who, 10s, perhaps 100s of millions of times a day do nothing harmful, stupid, or dangerous with this power.

I am in awe of people who choose to access such a terrible power, knowing that to have it to hand is to choose the terrible responsibility that with that power. Agency is hard. You’re responsible for whar you do with it. Also, what you don’t. Also for declining agency you might have, which leaves you helpless in the face of evil.

Is it moral to decline the power to #shootback, in a world with predators, thugs, crazies n terrorists who are willing to #shootfirst? What is it know as you lay dying that you and the other victims you see might be alive if only you had the moral courage to arm yourself. To know you declined because grasping that agency was too much for you.

Yes, “loving” machine guns is moral.

  15. Yes.

Some serious “like” is perfectly acceptable.

    Oh, HK MP5A1,
    how do I like thee,
    let me count the ways.

    Your gently curved magazine
Your 3 shot burst option (Navy group)
    Your delayed roller bolt….

  16. The first time a fired an M60, at Ft. Lewis I think, my first thought was, with a bit of trepidation, “don’t the other guys have these too?” I guess my imagination immediately wandered to how much it would suck to be down range. Yes, of course, I still love machine guns, but only ones not pointed at me.

  17. Wow, that must have been fun!
I’ll be in Sin City for an exhibition in October.
Any suggestions where I might go for a nice full auto shootout?
    What about Battlefield Vegas?
Help out a poor gun loving and owning European!!!

    • There are quite a few ranges in Vegas that offer full-auto rentals. Definitely shop around first as some try to figuratively and literally rape you on the price. I can think of a few places that come to mind as offering rentals including:
      The Gun Store
      Discount Guns and Ammo
      Guns and Ammo Garage
      American Shooter
      Machine Gun Kelly’s

  18. Yes. Yes it is. Much in the same way it is irresponsible to love a horse, a car, a sheep (outside of Wales), or your sibling.

Oh, you mean love, not love….move along.

  19. Better question: Is it morally acceptable to spend time and money on machine gun shoots instead of spending it on spamming postal tubes to congress demanding NFA repeal so we can all shoot them?

  20. No more or less moral than to love a deli meat slicer or some other automated version of a given tool, despite some violence being committed with that given tool.

Am I supposed to break out in tears every time I make a yogurt smoothie in the blender, using those awful, awful blades, just because there are people out there committing murder with knives?

Or should I curl up in a fetal position and whimper after jumping on a trampoline, just because someone else jumped to their death from a bridge?

Oh no. Thanksgiving is coming. That means……an electric knife! But….but….what about abused wife and murder victim Nicole Brown Simpson? Is it immoral to love drumsticks?

It’s all just so silly. I don’t understand what drives people to fabricate and gladly inhabit a menacing, enveloping worldview unsupported by facts.

  21. If we must tolerate the court-approved immoral unhealthy unnatural abominable practice of their so-called “gay rights”–why do they not tolerate our Constitutionally-guaranteed gun rights (including, of course, FA)?? DMD

  22. Duh! Sure.

    They’re fun.!

I have shot several full-auto weapons.

I couldn’t own one because I would be broke……..all the time.

Semi autos are bad enough for me. Ha.

  23. Morality ? The goverment not have it and make them not payable since 1986 registered closed for the average gun owner ……

  24. Of course it’s morally acceptable. In fact I’d say it’s a moral imperative. Bonus points for the movie reference.

  25. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…

  26. or the disproportionate impact of handguns on African American communities.
I am sure that the Afro Gang Bangers all attend the Oklahoma Machine Gun Shoot.
I personally love the smell of Napalm in the morning.

  27. I would suggest today being in love with our attempting to make love to any inanimate object, non human primate, or animal is not only immoral but also dangerous.

  28. Cha . . . yeah! I’ve shot lots of full auto in a lot of circumstances, and every one of them put a big grin on my face. Go for it!

  29. It is nice to have white people think about black shooting victims. At the same time these same white people support the welfare system that has replaced the black father for a white Uncle Sam and
    ” his free stuff”.
I hope they hug a black person to make themselves feel better.

  30. Personally, I love burstfire guns more than plain machine guns. The engineering of guaranteeing that the rifle fires 2-5 rounds in succession, then stops reliably, is so much more interesting.

  31. I LOVE machineguns, yes I do ! I hate the fact they are so darn expensive, since I can’t afford one now I’m married. IF I were to win the lottery, watch out ! MP-40 [tube gun fine] for sure; Thompson SMG too; MP5 maybe. Belt fed? Maybe!
